hi guys
couldnt find anything via search i want to add a custom boot logo to my SE x10i is there a easy way like an app or software that does that ? so i can add change the boot logo to my own custom logo
Boot animation available on market let's you change it to a pre selection of boot animations if you have root. As for creating your own, you can. But I'm not good at describing the process. Still its not very hard with some research. You will need to create your own sequence of png images and edit some tables to say how long each picture will be shown, the end result must be zipped without compression, it's then stored in the system/media folder under bootanimation.zip. if you have time then copy this to you sd card and then to your computer, it will give you an idea of what you need to do. Hope this helps

I don't recall any threads on this, but the kernels like overstock and tigers blood do... Perhaps pm them?
THERE is a way.
You can change it to whatever picture you want.
Its a bit advanced but theres a program for it.
I'll give when I get back from school.
Getting late
Thanks can't wait to try

There are 2 splash images. One hard coded into the kernel (only changeable through kernel source then recompiling the kernel) and the splash image located in the param.lfs partition.
So changing the param.lfs splash image won't get rid of the kernel splash image.

Change it to what? Do you want to make your own splash screen or just use one from another ROM that you liked?
If its using one from another ROM...its easy....
Download RootExplorer.
Open it and go to the "system" folder. then look for the "/media" file (/system/media) then look for the file called "bootanimation.zip"
That is the boot splash screen file.
If you want one from another ROM.
USE YOUR COMPUTER and open the ROM.zip file you want (bionix1.3.1.zip or sweethoney25.zip) could be any ROM.
Now navigate to the same folder "system\media" and copy the "bootanimation.zip" to you desktop.
Now plug your phone to your computer and copy the bootanimation.zip to your phone....anywhere is good just remember where you put it.
Now unplug your phone and open RootExplorer. Find the "bootanimation.zip" you just copied to your phone and long press it.
Choose the "move" option.
Now go to the "system\media" folder....long press the bootanimation.zip in that folder and choose "delete"...now paste the other bootanimation.zip into this folder.
Reboot!
Viola...you have your bootanimation.
If you want the stock Galaxy bootanimation...just use Rootexplorer and delete the file "bootanimation.zip" from the "system\media" folder and reboot! (this option only works if you see two different files in the folder named samsungboot.qmg and samsungbootloop.qmg...as those are the files for stock bootanimation)
::if this helps feel free to thank me""
Not the bootanimation the splash image at the begining I know how to change bootanimations. The image before the bootanimation. On htc phones you can change that along with the boot

Sorry guys, I know how to fix it, and change it to any image wanted...
I saw a video on it and tried on my phone and worked while on 2.2
The video is on mobile tech videos or something, but you need to go to their website for software and everything.
I haven't been to a computer in 4 days ,its broken, so I'll try to post link when I can.
Great Info Thank You

I'm pretty much a noob myself, but RootTools app has an option to choose a few diff boot anims. Not sure about shutdowns.
Read read and read. That's how I learned. You need to be rooted, use root explorer (an app) and just push it. Meaning of push, its cut/copy and paste.

Most all of them you flash in clockworkmod.
There is a lot of them in the bible
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991267
tru dat! you got 2 options:
- Flash in CwMRecovery
or
- Push bootanimation.zip into /system/media
Like a kernel or modem, bootanimations do not really require a flash at 100% battery or clearing of settings in CwMRecovery if you choose to flash it. Some bootanimations are not flashable and require you to push them into /system/media. Always read the OP will generally explain if it is flashable or not.
***I highly recommend you push it yourself. Its not hard at all and will allow you to be more familiar with your file system***
- just find the "bootanimation.zip" that you want
- move it to ur phone
tip* i've found i like to archive all bootanimations on my PC for future reference do so or skip this next step
- browse to /system/media/bootanimation.zip(this is your original) copy it to archive
- browse to where you put the bootanimation.zip you want and select "move"
- browse to /system/media/ and select paste
- select replace
- reboot phone and voila! now you have ur new bootanimation and you feel more comfortable moving system files around. Aren't you smart ur mom would be proud. Good luck!

check my post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019858
its on shutdown animations.
for boot animations.
its the same method
but the bootanimation is just in the "system/media" folder...called "bootanimation.zip"
It can be taken from any ROM from the "system/media" folder and placed in your "system/media" folder on your phone and your done.
This will make more sense after you read my forementioned post.
::thanks?::
i have tried pushing a bootanimation.zip to both my media folder and local folder and i cant get it to work any help please

Not sure which one you are trying to get on your phone.. Some animations need to be flashed through recovery.
Hey everyone, I'm posting this so you all can see if Bootanimations work on the nook tablet *aside from that abysmal stock animation* so let's move on, shall we?
Instructions:
What you need to do is just download, rename to bootanimation.zip and push to /data/local/
you can do this by either using adb
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
or by using a file explorer.
Bootanimation
There are 2 choices.
Code:
Thundercats
Transformers (decepticon)
[size=5] Download: [/size]
[URL="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15069134/bootanimations/decepticonbootanimation.zip"]Decepticon[/URL]
[URL="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15069134/bootanimations/thundercatsbootanimation.zip"]Thundercats[/URL]
Added a second bootanimation to the thread.
I tried, but no luck. A couple things i noticed. One, my bootanimation file lives in /system/bin, second, i'm not sure how to match the permissions. The original file's permissions are rwxr-xr-x, third(ly) i also tried dropping the .zip extension as it's not on the original file.
Let me know what i'm doing wrong, or anything else you'd like me to try. Thanks indirect, for all your work!

WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT TOUCH THE bootanimation Binary File in /system/bin!!! This is the Executable that RUNS a boot animation.... copy over that file and boot animations will cease to function until it is restored to the original file.
Yeah, i realized what it was after some experimenting. So i restored it, and tried indirect's instructions exactly, but no luck.

Just tried it as well and no luck.
You know on my phone, the location of the bootanimation.zip is in the /system/media folder. Maybe try dropping it there?
Yeah, try pushing it to system/media
We might need to put it in the framework-res if this doesnt work. :/
Sent by breaking the sound barrier
Put it in system/media and i got NO starting animation at all (which gave me a bit of a scare for a moment until the unlock screen came on) . But by having NO animation, that means its doing SOMETHING.

Here's a zip of the actual images used in the stock bootanimation these may help in determining the format needed.

Hi, is there a way to turn off boot animation...I it takes about 5 minutes for my nook tablet to load...kind of annoying when you need to do something quickly.
Thanks so much!
_
I have the ROM toolbox app which has the ability to automatically change the boot animation, but I am not sure if I can use the application without messing up the tablet.

The 5 minute bootup is not affected by the bootanimation at all. The boot animation actually completes fairly early, and becomes a static image until the end of the bootup.
Also, the Nook Tablet uses a special /system/bin/bootanimation which, while recognizing custom bootanimations, fails to actually draw them to the screen. Thus, you end up with a black screen for those ~5 minutes while the boot process is going. It took me a long time to realize that I hadn't bricked my nook to figure that out.
The only bootanimation that works is stored in the /system/framework/framework-res.apk file, which can be tricky to modify, and update correctly. The snowball-mod root that I wrote has a custom bootanimation, but that's just more a side effect of fixing the white-on-white problem, (if you've already hacked one PNG in the file, hacking a few more isn't particularly hard.)
Oh ok thank you for the info. I appreciate it

Was anyone able to get their boot animation changed from stock at this time. It would be nice to have something that doesn't promote BN. This thread just kind of fell to the wayside.
Thanks...
Gave it a try. It did something. Went from the Read Forever screen to black untill it finished booting. I think its a start. Tried the Thunder Cats file.

anyone try using 7-ZIP to drag/drop/replace similar-sized images into the original bootanimatoon.zip? I had some luck doing that on my intercept. I guess it preserves the original sig/align or something.
You have to change the animation in framework-res.apk since that's where B&N use theirs. The normal android way won't work here.

hey there,
i took the file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297084, converted the resolution of the images and adapted the desc.txt and packed it again.
i'm using the ROM Devil_2.3.7 and just put it to /data/local/ using adb, it works without problems for me.
i hope you like my first post in this forum

The way I did it was (NOTE:Only applies to ROM's based off CM7.1 as far as I know) place the bootanimation.zip file onto SD Card. Download a Root File Explorer like Root Browser from Google Play. Navigate to the file on the SD Card and copy it. Now navigate to /system/media and backup(if you want) the existing bootanimation.zip or you can go straight ahead and just delete it. Now paste the bootanimation.zip you copied from the SD Card and you should be all good to go
When I'm able to(because I'm still new here) I hope to write up a proper guide on how to do this

On rooted S-ON legends you can do it only in recovery mode with adb and r4-legend-recovery tools.
boot into recovery mode, after launching recovery-windows.bat (if you use windows of course) from r4-legend mount /system then push the bootanimation.zip into /system/media
I'm trying to apply this animation but I can't remove/copy for back up the old one.
I have root browser and superuser gives it root rights but I cant modify permission to the file or move it.
Any suggestion?

i just got a new phone (my first android), ive been trying to change my boot animation and cant seem to get it to work, ive tried everything so if someone could please help me id be very grateful
i replaced the file which was named bootanimation_virigin.zip (also didnt think of renaming the original, so the original is gone), i even replaced the stock one which was named bootanimation.zip (also didnt rename it or back it up... -__-;; ) i made sure the files are correct and match up with the desc.txt file. i copied the original boot animation zip to my computer and just replaced everything, same number of files, about the same file size, same file type, same size and just put the folders "part0", "part1" and the desc.txt files back on my sd card and moved it to system/media/bootanimation_virigin, i compressed the files into a zip using root browser from the rom toolbox, i made sure that the compression was set to none, and then moved the zip file to system/media, i set the permisions to rw-r--r-- which is the exact same as the other boot animations. nothing shows up anymore till the phone is done booting but ill admit that it is definitely better than the stock virgin mobile animation...
my phone:
carrier: virigin mobile
model: lg optimus f3 (there isnt much or any support really for this phone)
android version: 4.1.2
root: yes
(im new so i cant post links... so the second line is what you paste after the first line... =/ )
here is a screen shot of what my system/media folder looks like
imgur.com/
kE9jwIg
here is everything i have for this boot animation (including: original virgin mobile boot animation, a video of the boot animation, all the pictures, and a folder titled "bootanimation_virign" which is the folder i moved into system/media)
mediafire.com/download/

if anyone has any other questions please let me know, ive been trying for a month or so and im just about to give up =/
UPDATE: i figured out what was wrong, i thought it was something on my phone but it was the way after effects renders jpeg sequences, i think it has something to do with the attributes of the jpeg file but anyways i just used a program called boot animation creator and it worked perfectly
