i just got a new phone (my first android), ive been trying to change my boot animation and cant seem to get it to work, ive tried everything so if someone could please help me id be very grateful
i replaced the file which was named bootanimation_virigin.zip (also didnt think of renaming the original, so the original is gone), i even replaced the stock one which was named bootanimation.zip (also didnt rename it or back it up... -__-;; ) i made sure the files are correct and match up with the desc.txt file. i copied the original boot animation zip to my computer and just replaced everything, same number of files, about the same file size, same file type, same size and just put the folders "part0", "part1" and the desc.txt files back on my sd card and moved it to system/media/bootanimation_virigin, i compressed the files into a zip using root browser from the rom toolbox, i made sure that the compression was set to none, and then moved the zip file to system/media, i set the permisions to rw-r--r-- which is the exact same as the other boot animations. nothing shows up anymore till the phone is done booting but ill admit that it is definitely better than the stock virgin mobile animation...
my phone:
carrier: virigin mobile
model: lg optimus f3 (there isnt much or any support really for this phone)
android version: 4.1.2
root: yes
(im new so i cant post links... so the second line is what you paste after the first line... =/ )
here is a screen shot of what my system/media folder looks like
imgur.com/
kE9jwIg
here is everything i have for this boot animation (including: original virgin mobile boot animation, a video of the boot animation, all the pictures, and a folder titled "bootanimation_virign" which is the folder i moved into system/media)
mediafire.com/download/
wwyzgzhh3slp3po/jaime+custom+boot+ani.zip
if anyone has any other questions please let me know, ive been trying for a month or so and im just about to give up =/
UPDATE: i figured out what was wrong, i thought it was something on my phone but it was the way after effects renders jpeg sequences, i think it has something to do with the attributes of the jpeg file but anyways i just used a program called boot animation creator and it worked perfectly

i found the problem, i had rendered a jpeg sequence from after effects and i guess it didnt have the right attributes or something but i used a program called boot animation creator and it went off without any problems so yay

ok i'm trying to change a few things in the notification bar...right now specifically the back, plain white just ignores me. well i tried the simplest way i could think of:
-copy framework-res.apk to my computer
-copy new image into file (and rename)
-put on SD card
-overwrite original using rootexplorer
unfortunately i failed miserably because it would go to the 'sony ericsson' boot screen and freeze. i've already flashed back my firmware. and before i try again on my own i was wondering if anyone already knows how to do this so i can skip the trial and error phase. hopefully if someone can help me i can figure out how to add quick settings to the task bar as well.
P.S. if it helps i'm running world generic 2.1
You might want to start by posting in the correct area.
XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps
Your problem is you're not allowed to copy and paste it!
You have to put it somewhere on your SDcard, best: root
Then you have to open cmd or a terminal app and type:
(adb shell) dd if=/sdcard/framework-res.apk of=/system/framework/framework-res.apk
Finished

my bad...next time i'll pay more attention to where i'm posting lol...i wrote that while i was reflashing and didn't pay much attention to development vs. themes...oh well....thanks PoTi i'll try that when i get home
Also, any image with a .9.png extension needs to be patched with draw9patch.bat in the adb "tools" folder.
There are several themes already in the themes & apps section if you just want a quick change...

Really? So I'm doing extra steps? Is that right? I thought it was necessary after editing a .9.png to re-patch to give them "stretching" properties. So maybe PS writes to .9.png if you just merge visible layers and save or something?
Draw9patch does optimize the pngs (MUCH smaller w/no quality loss) and you get a preview of how they will look when stretched/transformed but I'd skip the extra steps if I don't need to do them!
Thread moved to Q&A.

*Bump* for clarity here...
I've read other places that you have to use draw9patch on .9.pngs but PoTi_96 says he's never used it and he made a nice, working theme for 2.1
Are the other threads I've read wrong?

thanks!
no they are NOT wrong!
today i've noticed that SOME .9.png really need the 9batch...
but NOT ALL!
Check out _calum_'s post HERE
It's more complicated than I thought but at least we have our answer.
I also just make some .9.pngs "full size" (ie: make statusbar_background.9.png 480x38 instead of 26x38) so they will not be stretched. (Like you suggested for status_bar_background.png to prevent it from tiling.) Then patch per the post I linked to.

hi guys
couldnt find anything via search i want to add a custom boot logo to my SE x10i is there a easy way like an app or software that does that ? so i can add change the boot logo to my own custom logo
Boot animation available on market let's you change it to a pre selection of boot animations if you have root. As for creating your own, you can. But I'm not good at describing the process. Still its not very hard with some research. You will need to create your own sequence of png images and edit some tables to say how long each picture will be shown, the end result must be zipped without compression, it's then stored in the system/media folder under bootanimation.zip. if you have time then copy this to you sd card and then to your computer, it will give you an idea of what you need to do. Hope this helps

I don't recall any threads on this, but the kernels like overstock and tigers blood do... Perhaps pm them?
THERE is a way.
You can change it to whatever picture you want.
Its a bit advanced but theres a program for it.
I'll give when I get back from school.
Getting late
Thanks can't wait to try

There are 2 splash images. One hard coded into the kernel (only changeable through kernel source then recompiling the kernel) and the splash image located in the param.lfs partition.
So changing the param.lfs splash image won't get rid of the kernel splash image.

Change it to what? Do you want to make your own splash screen or just use one from another ROM that you liked?
If its using one from another ROM...its easy....
Download RootExplorer.
Open it and go to the "system" folder. then look for the "/media" file (/system/media) then look for the file called "bootanimation.zip"
That is the boot splash screen file.
If you want one from another ROM.
USE YOUR COMPUTER and open the ROM.zip file you want (bionix1.3.1.zip or sweethoney25.zip) could be any ROM.
Now navigate to the same folder "system\media" and copy the "bootanimation.zip" to you desktop.
Now plug your phone to your computer and copy the bootanimation.zip to your phone....anywhere is good just remember where you put it.
Now unplug your phone and open RootExplorer. Find the "bootanimation.zip" you just copied to your phone and long press it.
Choose the "move" option.
Now go to the "system\media" folder....long press the bootanimation.zip in that folder and choose "delete"...now paste the other bootanimation.zip into this folder.
Reboot!
Viola...you have your bootanimation.
If you want the stock Galaxy bootanimation...just use Rootexplorer and delete the file "bootanimation.zip" from the "system\media" folder and reboot! (this option only works if you see two different files in the folder named samsungboot.qmg and samsungbootloop.qmg...as those are the files for stock bootanimation)
::if this helps feel free to thank me""
Not the bootanimation the splash image at the begining I know how to change bootanimations. The image before the bootanimation. On htc phones you can change that along with the boot

Sorry guys, I know how to fix it, and change it to any image wanted...
I saw a video on it and tried on my phone and worked while on 2.2
The video is on mobile tech videos or something, but you need to go to their website for software and everything.
I haven't been to a computer in 4 days ,its broken, so I'll try to post link when I can.
Great Info Thank You
Here is a youtube link. The video states only for i9000, but the website has files for the t959 (vibrant) and the process is the same. I have successfully used this method. On my vibrant. Also attached is the image I flashed if you want it.

This is the one I'm talking about!!
Need some help.
I followed the effen manual to flash a new ROM for my HCT Desire HD on Monday, December 12th with absolute success (thanks to the author of that procedure). However, I have lost the start up sound file and when I boot my android, it boots in quiet mode. I searched for a solution and found many threads explaining how to disable it, but very little on how to enable it.
The problem is when I open my SDcard and look in the media/audio/notifications all I have is a facebook.mp3 file, I do not have any other files that would allow for the start up sound to open on boot.
I'm hoping someone can put some light on this topic and suggest on how I can fix this issue. Obviously, after I flashed to android revolution HD, somehow the files were deleted.
Patiently hoping..........
I am also interested in this.
When I flashed CyanogenMod 7 on my LG Optimus One,the boot sound disappeared.
I need it back too
Did you get your fix? I'm waiting on my HTC Desire HD with same problem
Normally people dont want start up sound. It just too annoy when it freeze during lesson and you can't switch it on.
To get back.
- check whether the start up sound is disabled (forgot the location of the file)
- check whether you have a start up sound in system/media. It is not in Mp3 format.
You will have either one or both missing

It is not in mp3 format as I said. Forgotten the format. You have to edit the boot animation.zip and add the sound code inside. And you can ask your rom developer to help you

I opened file manager both on my PC and with my HTC and as I said, I don't have the boot animation.zip file. Other threads have mentioned to go to media/notifications and rename it to android_audio.mp3.
Problem is there is no file named android_audio.mp3 or any other file to mention.
A thread mentions to go into media/notifications/bootanimation and change the file name for android_audio.mp3
I go to this directory and all I have is media/notifications............ there is no bootanimation or android_audio file name.
I would like to know how to re-install the bootanimation and android audio file so that I have a start up sound
Go get a bootanimation.zip with sound in xda and paste it into system/media. Then delete the one in data/local

I can't find the system/media. I can only see a media file dated Sun 22 May 2011. Where would I look? I'm new at this and have checked. I have opened disk drive on my PC as well as using the File Manager from the Market. Furthermore, where can I get a bootanimation.zip for android revolution HD 6.3.1 ?
Thanks in advance

The reason you can't see it is due to the file explorer not having root access. Get something like root explorer. A search will lead you to an animation file

Looking back on posts makes us realise how much we have learnt and how far we have come.. yes we feel stupid but you don't know what the community has taught you until you see how silly we all were
Hiya!
I recently wanted to try and make my own boot animation after reading the tutorial here on XDA.
I followed the steps laid out and created several PNGs of a picture fading into focus.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/create-your-very-own-boot-animations/
I use ES File Explorer, give it R/W permission and succesfully replace/paste the new bootanimation.zip file.
The phone reboots to the Moto logo, then to a black screen, and finally by lockscreen.
The only time I can sucessfully replace it is in the Recovery and flashing one already made.... which i haven't learned to make a flashable one yet.
So, Is there a reason why just replacing the bootanimation.zip doesn't work?
Here is my ROM info:
CyanMobile gingerbread build15 4/6/2013
Android 2.3.8
desc.txt file:
540 960 12
p 0 0 part0
part0 folder(images are set for 540x960 pixels in photoshop):
image00.png
image001.png
etc....
Thanks BodyEvery!
What did you use to zip the file?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I used 7zip on my pc set to "storage" and i even tried ES File on my phone using the storage setting as well.
If your on Windows Vista/7 try the built in zip. Right click send to zip. That's always worked for me, although your settings in 7zip should have been correct..

FWIW I had weirdness when doing a bootanimation.zip ... I remember reading more about it when I had an HTC Hero but with the photon I took an existing working bootanimation.zip and modified it until it worked. Some weird things were that I had trouble shortening the total frame count, the dimensions and color depth had to be identical, and I needed two sets of the animation, and at least for me they had to have the same number of frames. I'm not saying that this is right, just what I remember of the steps I took before the thing worked. I posted it in the themes section a while ago, feel free to find that and use it as a starting point.

Cool, Thanks for the info. I was worried about something like this. Every tutorial I have read and viewed made it seem so easy.
I can flash any of the Bootanimations from Jleeblanch post in the Themes and Apps section and they work.
I have even unzip'd two of his files, copied the bootanimation.zip files, and re-zip'd them to paste in the Media folder....
Even that fails and gives me a black screen.... I will experiment this weekend and see what i can do (super noob here) haha.
Maybe i will try to message Jleeblanch and see if he can offer any pointers or tips.
