You mean like connecting to another ad-doc or creating one of your own for others to connect? For the second one, you need barnacle from market - works great.

there is a program called Connectify which use your laptop wifi to make a hotspot area.. you can connect your android phone to the said hotspot. www.connectify.me only available to windows 7 and windows 2008
I am assuming that you already know how to a create adhoc network on your laptop and share your internet connection.
X10 can connect with adhoc networks, but you will need to set it up manually. The steps are outlined here. Root required.
From the article here:
Windows 7 comes with a new feature for sharing your computers internet connection. Now you can do it wirelessly. Well, As long as your system’s wireless network adapter supports Windows 7 “virtual wi-fi” feature, you can do it.
Next you need to check if your network card has the latest driver to support the feature. Intel, Broadcom, Realtek and some other NIC makers provide such drivers.
If the two above conditions are met, you are good to read on …
1. Open an elevated command prompt (Type “CMD.EXE” in the start menu search bar, then right click the cmd.exe link and select “Run as Administrator”).
2. In the command window, type: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyNet key=MyPassword
Replace “MyNet” with the name you want to use for the wireless network and replace “MyPassword” with your chosen password for accessing it)
3. Press Enter.
4. Now type: netsh wlan start hostednetwork
5. Press Enter.
6. Open Control Panel and go to Network and Sharing Center.
7. Click Change Adapter Settings.
8. Right click your Internet connection and select Properties.
9. Click the Sharing tab.
10. Check the box that says “Allow other network users to connect.”
11. Choose your virtual wi-fi adapter and click OK.
Now wi-fi enabled gadget (mobile phone, laptop, ipod, etc) within range should see your new wireless network and others can connect to it if they know the password.
if you've turned off your computer and need to enable this feature, you can just type "netsh wlan start hostednetwork"
Connectify is a good option though if you don't to do the steps above.
====
if this isn't about the topic then ignore 'coz i'm a bit confused as to what you wanted to do.
the question is do you want to share your laptop's internet connection so that your x10 mini can connect to it?
OR
do you want to create share your x10 mini's internet connection so that others can connect to it? (Barnacle is the answer)
anyway, as far as i know, x10 mini/mini pro can't connect to any adhoc network.
I have xperia x10 mini pro. Trying to set up wi-fi adhoc (IBSS) with a laptop.
Changed / system / etc / tiwlan.ini
Code:
...
WiFiAdhoc = 1
dot11DesiredSSID = x10mp
dot11DesiredBSSType = 0
...
and / data / misc / wifi / wpa_cupplicant.conf
Code:
ctrl_interface = wlan0
wpa_supplicant GROUP = system
update_config = 1
eapol_version = 1
ap_scan = 2
network = {
ssid = "x10mp"
scan_ssid = 1
key_mgmt = NONE
mode = 1
frequency = 2412
}
When I turn on wi-fi on the phone immediately goes to connect to the correct grid, for a long time hanging message "Obtaining IP address ...", and then says" failed ".
What's the problem? What's best way to organize such a network?

[Q] Internet via ad-hoc

Hi people, i don't have wifi in my house so i tried to create a wifi acces point on my laptot but in my mini pro doesn't appear my wifi.
can anyone help me?
I use win xp and ubuntu 11.04
thanks and sorry for my bad english (i'm spanish)
dare i ask what your settings are, such as...
ssid; or if its set to even broadcast?
encryption or no encryption?
is ics on?
what band(s) are your broadcasting off your notebook b/g/n?(think the mini only has b/g)
are you broadcasting from like the attic down to the basement?
My wifi chip is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
The connection is shared and without encryption.
I used this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndYUkSdCQ3Q&feature=related

Maybe you tried Creating Ad-Hoc. Android does not show adhoc networks. There is also a Workaround. Thanks to blackplatypus. Details at

. But it is not sure, if it will work or not.
So there is another way, Make your pc act as an Access point.
Easy Way: First (Did not work for me. )
Easy Way: Second (Have not tested it.)
Hard Way:
Not sure if it will work on XP.
1. Go to Start -> Run, Type services.msc
2. Find if you have the "Routing and Remote Access" [/B]
If it is ther then Procceed. But if you dont have it, You can not make a virtual Wifi Router.
3. Right Click on "Routing and Remote Access", Select Properties, Select Automatic from the Dropdown menu, click on OK. Then restart your PC.
4. After Restarting the PC, Copy and paste the code below in any text file and save it as “.bat” file.
Note: replace yourSSID with any SSID you like and yourKEY with any password you like.
Code:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork ssid=yourSSID key=YourKEY keyUsage=persistent
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
Double click on it.
You can see an Extra Wireless Connection in your “Network Connections” folder.
5. Right Click on your main internet connection, go to Properties, select Sharing, Put tick on First box and select the extra Wireless Network Connection.
Done.
Now you can use internet through this.
