I have these double circular arrows up top next to the H+. They are not spinning, just setting there. They don't seem to ever go away. Is this using data or what. Not sure what is causing. My phone is rooted with a few things frozen but nothing that has anything to do with syncing.
thanks for any help
It sure seems something is still syncing... You can test what it is by going into Settings ยป Accounts and disabling individual sync services for any accounts that have them.

No, I only have the Moto Blur default account and there are no setting for that. It has a little lock by it. I don't use it, I use K9 mail program for all my email including google but in my System account there is my Yahoo account that is the default, locked account and a google account, neither of which have any setting at all.

Nope, I tried that and the arrows remain. Also, something strange I think. The arrows stay there even if I turn Airplane Mode on!
Sounds like a silly question, did you reboot?
I rebooted many times. I started removing apps so hopefully I could find it but each time I restarted those sync arrows came back. I also tried freezing every thing I could but no luck so today I unfroze everything and still couldn't get rid of them. Something was always trying to sync. I noticed that my battery life was shorter today so I did a factory data reset and now I am in the process of rooting it again and installing my apps again.
Thanks for all your help and I will be more careful and systematic this time but what I learned is that one needs to be careful about installing apps. Read the reviews first because some programs are memory hogs, some take over your system, etc.
I've only seen that when I started up this new phone.
I shall look for it. I really like my phone. Look at it often.
(Wow, that was nerdy.)

Yeah, the Atrix is still relatively new to the dev scene so most mods are going to have side effects. Basically, just be prepared to do some resets and such until something has been labeled "stable". I'm already on my second Atrix because I messed up the lights for the capacitive buttons and something went wrong with charging, it would always say it was charging even when unplugged. The problems even persisted after a factory restore. Luckily I was able to unroot it and bring it in for a new one before my 30 days was up.
When you see the "sync" icon there, you can go to:
Settings > Accounts > tap on an account, say Gmail.
If something is sync-ing, you'll see the sync-ing icon beside the checkbox for contacts/emails/calendar.
I know on mine, when it syncs with my google calendar, it takes a good 2 mins...odd considering i have less than 10 entries. lol.
I got curious why the sync icon was there for a while, so this was where I looked to figure out what was sync-ing.
Download os monitor and look sort by load. See what is taking up the load and that is your rogue syncing app. Likely it is stuck on a google contact that is corrupted (if acore is your issue in os monitor)
i had the same icon on my notification and i froze account sync and calendar sync, it was killing my battery around 10% per hour. the icon went away after a reset and i have no idea what caused it. looking in titanium i saw an app called SyncML 2.2.1 that has a similar icon but i have no idea if its the app thats responsible, still froze it.
Please understand, I DO NOT WANT TO SYNC MY CONTACTS WITH FACEBOOK!
It totally messes up the sync, puts wrong info with the wrong people, etc.
So I go to settings/Accounts and Sync, select Facebook and turn off Sync Contacts. Then I delete all the garbage and the mess Facebook has made of my contacts, use MyPhone Explorer to force Outlook to my Contacts and all is well until.... a reboot will somehow turn it back on! I'll get the message in the notification bar about linked contacts, click NO! HELL NO! and then go look at Settings/Accounts and Sync and the Sync Contacts is back on. Sometimes I catch it before any notifications have come up, sometimes I catch it before it's messed up my Contacts but not always.....
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the 4th Android phone that's had this bug! I've run stock ROMS, Froyo Roms, Gingerbread Roms, currently running rooted with a Gingerbread Rom. it doesn't happen with a BlackBerry or WinMo device, it doesn't happen with Google contacts so it's not the phone, it's not the Android version, it's not T-Mobile or VZW, it's a fault of Facebook or the Android Facebook app, how can I fix it?
Or am I the only one with the problem?
Did that for me to with an older version of fb. I deleted HTCfb with TB, and fb, then installed fb from the market, now it only has one synced option instead of like 5 or whatever it was before, and if I unchecked it it stays that way on reboot. I also deleated a ton of other stuff off my phone with TB that I don't use, so im not sure if something else may have helped that.

Thanks, I may have it handled. Maybe.... I left the sync box checked, deleted the categories Facebook had mis created in my Contacts list. I've rebooted several times and all seems to be well. Initially I had to dismiss a couple of paired suggestions but no more have popped up.
I'll delete the HTC Facebook and the Friendstream app if it continues to mess up.
Yea, I deleted all that crap, and backup manager, news, stocks, mms, tell HTC... Everything I don't use on a daily basis, and its much better now, not so much clutter and things trying to connect or hog recources and drain my batt, lol

It seems like my sgsII has two programs accessing my gmail. The first is a gmail app, the second is Social Hub. I end up getting notifications from both of them in the status bar. How can I shut one of them off?
Whenever I try, I end up getting messages about needing to reset the phone to remove my gmail account. I don't want to do that, but I can't get one of these email programs to shut up.
If you're rooted, you can use TitaniumBackup to freeze Social Hub. That's what I did, and there's no ill effects.
Very nice. That did the trick. Thanks!
I really like my Rezound but it seems like the built-in task killer is killing off all of my apps that need sync and/or push notifications. I saw that the OTA update was set to fix that it was killing off email syncs, and it did fix that, my email app syncs all the time now.
However, my facebook widget, facebook messenger app, yahoo messenger app, yahoo mail app; they work fine for about 8-10 hours, then after that they just dont update anymore at all. When a new email hits my yahoo account, it stops getting push notifications, when someone sends me a new facebook message, my facebook messenger app doesnt get the notification, etc. This really sucks. The only way I've been able to get them to work again is, every morning after waking up, I have to power down and restart the phone 2 or 3 times to get them all back working. But usually by the end of my day, they've all stopped again.
Any ideas?
Bump
Anybody experience this too?
Do you mean the HTC power management scheme? Because I don't remember a task-killer being installed.. Forgive me if there is because I haven't seen stock since about a week after I got the phone. Maybe try setting the power management to performance mode and grabbing an app like Juice Defender that's a bit more customizable.
To piggyback on what MrSmith said (speaking from personal experience), if your battery gets to the point where your phone goes into power save mode, background data and/or auto sync may be turning off, and it doesn't always turn back on.

Mine is in Performance mode. Gingerbread comes with a task manager built in. One of the big issues that the OTA update fixed was the fact that the built-in task manager was killing off the email sync in the background (according to the official description of the update).
I'm assuming that the task manager is auto-killing a lot of stuff as well too. My facebook widget almost never updates after a few hours after rebooting.
I'm still on 100% stock. I guess at some point I'll unlock the bootloader, root it, and go with a new ROM. I'm not real familiar with the process for doing that with an HTC. I came from the Samsung Galaxy S world. It was so much easier to root and switch ROMs, etc.
EVO 4g LTE running Fresh ROM 5.3.1
So Friday I was using my phone all day on Fresh 5.2.1 and didn't have any trouble at all...went to bed and woke up Saturday to a popup message in the corner that said sing in error for "blank"@"blank.com" (blanks were one of my email accounts fyi it didn't actually say blank) click here to sign in. When I click it says signing in------ the it says "Couldn't sign in" "A problem occurred while communicating with Google servers. Please try again later. That's it...no matter how many time I try it says the same thing. If I go home it will go away for 10 or so minutes then come back. All my data for that account (which is my main account on the phone) works fine...email...contacts...internet...everything. I tried everything from clearing the cache in the play store to disabling Google+ from my account through the computer to "uninstalling" all the extra Google apps, uninstalling the update to the play store killing the services that I didn't recognize even going to the account and unchecking all the boxes so it doesn't sync anything...it still pops up. I updated to the newest version of Fresh in hopes that would help...nothing. I wiped the phone on Sunday and restored to factory wiped Dalvik/Cache everything. Loaded the main account again and nothing...never saw the error again. After a few hours I loaded all the rest of my accounts and programs back to the phone and all was good. UNTIL today. My phone was in my pocket and I must of had the power button mashed down because I felt it buzz and when I looked it had restarted....and what do you know when it was back on THERE IT WAS AGAIN...the stupid "sign in error" popup AGAIN...someone please HELP!

Maybe it could be push malware. Have u downloaded any apps outside the market? Have u tried airpush detector from playstore?
Any app that has certain permissions
can see your email. What better way to get your password?

what is your email client? is it hotmail?
HTC EVO LTE
I have not but will try airpush...and my email client is my website (@blahblahblah.com) not really blah blah blah it is through godaddy and is handled through google apps...so once i set up all my dns settings with google they handle the mail portion for me. I have had it set up this way without change for over a year with no problems and I still get all my emails to my pone
I just tried airpush detector...it didn't find anything
It could be something that requires 2 step authentication, you would need to finish the setup for that error to go away. Just a stray thought
I just changed my password...and it still pops up with the same error but recognizes that I changed the password and prompts me to actually enter it. but I still get the same failed to communicate with google servers message. I even deleted the whole account from the phone and I still get the popup error
Hmm...I've had this issue with stock sense but I don't remember how I fixed it, I think I eventually did a factory reset
Did u do one of the YouTube streaming mods where u changed http settings or anything?
Try cleaning cache and dalvik or maybe even google caches and hotmail? I'm at a loss here.
No I didn't do any youtube mods or anything...I have cleared all the cache from any google app I have including the play store...I will try and just clear the main cache and dalvik...I want to say I have done that also but can't remember. Also...now that the account is removed from my phone it still pops up with the error...but now I get a menu button...when I click it it lets me login from browser...it takes me to what looks like a gmail login screen with my email already filled out and a password box to type in. I put my password in...it flashes to a black screen with the signing in progress bar going across the top...then disappears. All looks good at this point...BUT sure enough about 5 minutes later...sign in error popup again.
On a side note...I know it isn't a problem with dns settings or the host because with google apps you get up to 10 email addresses from my 1 domain that I own. My wife has her own set up the same way on the same phone running the same ROM/RADIO and virtually the same programs...Hers runs fine
Clearing the cache and Dalvik didn't solve the problem...I have now added the account back to the phone...we will see
Adding the account back didn't fix the issue either...the first time it happened last Saturday I did a factory reset...and that indeed did fix the problem...however only for 2 days...then it came back...I really want to get this fixed as opposed to flashing again...its not really critical ad all my data works and emails work but it is supper annoying

Do u have the gmail app or u have it on stock mail app? Maybe try switching it out? Shutdown or freeze the one thats giving u problems.
When u go to the gmail site is it legit? U counter check it through DNS to make sure it isn't a phishing scheme?
Im using the gmail app...I get all my mail fine...I have unchecked the account so it doesn't sync anything and it still pops up...I have deleted the account off the phone and it still pops up. It's almost like the account is doubled up or something on my phone. It's almost like one is complete and one is just partially installed and stuck in the setup process. Now when I go to my internet browser...I logged in and it says location unavailable...when I click restaurants...there is an option to update precise location...I click it and it turns grey but never actually updates the location

I was getting it too. It was Wallet.
I would try to log in with the wallet app and it would tell me my password is bad. I hit the menu button and chose "login via web" or something like that. Browser popped up, I entered my username and password and it went away.
