I have LauncherPRo (still in free mode but will buy) installed on my Streak 5 (2.2). Initially when i hit the home key, it gave me the option to open in Dell Stage mode or Laucher Pro. I lost that option. it always open in LaucherPro
Can anyone help me get the Stage option back (Id like the screen to pop up asking which mode id like to open).
Thanks.
Never mind I found it:
1. Brought up Settings and chose the following menu items
a. Application
b. Manage Applications
c. Launcher Pro
d. scrolled to the Launch by Default entry and 'deselected' Launcher Pro
2. Now i get the screen asking me which home screen do i want to display (Dell Stage or Launcher Pro)..
i am ok now.
Yep. You solved your problem. Anytime a app is selected as default when given a choice, you have to follow those steps to undo default.

you could just use home switcher for froyo and have three or four launchers and just choose that way its easy

So here I am, 5 yrs a RIM BB client, now holding in my hand a beautiful device called the dell streak. When I was with BB, I always had the most up to date firmware, months before Telus would drop them. I modded my system first to look like an iphone and then to look 'androidy' and 'linuxy'...
well, now I begin my search to perfect this device. I have a few questions and I hope I don't offend the 'experts' as a noob but I have an unlocked Streak running Froyo. While playing with it I have noticed that the page that is set as my home page when I click my home button is a series of apps recently opened. I would much rather have this be set to programs that do not refresh, call it my top 10 list.
I would also like to view, add and test themes, skins etc... that add more functionality to this phablet, tabone, or whatever the word is for this giant AND AWESOME device.
I want to create backgrounds with my daughter, my bike, my logo all my things...
I have tried to go through the 'settings' but honestly, it seems really limited.
I have read around the forums here, but most of this stuff seems advanced (which I will get to) but is there a noob guide somewhere?
The apps list you describe sounds like a Stage widget. Long press on it and it will change shape and a trash can will appear, without letting up on it drag it to the trash can. That's how you remove the stuff you don't want to make room for what you do. Some not Streak specific info.
You can add shortcuts and widgets to an empty area of a screen by holding your finger on that area until a menu pops up.
You can also put a shortcut to an app on the screen by opening the app tray and long pressing on the app icon you want on the screen. The app tray will disappear and you can drop the icon where you want.
When in doubt tap the menu key again. There may be another layer of options.
The Home key takes you back to the home screen from an app, but in some apps what happens in the background is different than what happens if you leave the app by pressing the back key. Leaving with the home key usually means that when you go back to the app you'll be at the same place.
Long pressing the Home key brings up a list of recently used apps. You can use this to quickly switch between apps or to get back to an app after a phone call or other activity.
A home replacement app changes the way your phone looks and the way you interact with it. The two favorites for the Streak are LauncherPro and ADW launcher.

i prefer to call my streak perfection because it does everythign i ever wanted and more
if you have the ADW launcher you can download some themes from the android market you might be able to find more on the web using google not 100% sure if the dell UI does themes yet
the launcher pro for ssome of its features you have to pay so i dont really use that one myself
I suggest launcherpro
I have mine set so when I hit home, it opens apparently drawer and in apparently drawer I hit home it goes back to default home screen.
Also like it because you can have 5 shortcuts and make them also a swipe gesture to do something else.. making them 10 items....
Example....
Normal click- direct dial wife cell phone
Swipe- direct dial wife work phone
You can have multiple docks as well by swiping.
Other recommendation is to download and install dialer one..
That has a t9 dial keys which guesses your contact list.. kinda like the bb

Hi,
where can i download the Tapatalk? is it free or paid
and the xda messenger?
Thnx in advance
After I upgraded to Steve's 1.6 and lost my settings for the Stage UI I finally took the plunge and got AWD Launcher EX. Haven't regretted it, works great. Love the general ability to customize and unlike Stage UI it doesn't crash.
I cannot, however, find an option to increase the number of screens, is there one? The standard 5 are not quite enough, and while I have increased the number of icons per column to 6, this looks awful in portrait mode. There is another thought for the future, it would be great to be able to set the number of rows and columns for each screen separately, I would prefer to have more items on my home screen and less on the other screens.
Just hit menu button while on the home screen. Then "edit".

That was quick, easy, and painless. A rather unexpected place -- I was desperately trying to find a "number of screens" or similar setting.
push menu ---> edit ---> push "+" and u will be able to add or delete pages
every time I try to install an app it pulls up the apk handler asking me how I want to install it...no problem right? Well, now it's repetitively opening it probably 300x/minutes and closing it...won't allow me to select to install it at all...
This wouldn't be that big of a problem except that I have Thumb Keyboard installed and I can't type until I reinstall thumb keyboard b/c of the rebooting/power glitch of thumb keyboard not sticking.
I can't hit the home button because when I try to it asks which home to default to (I JUST installed ADWEx launcher and then my tablet auto-rebooted on its own after I tried to change the wallpaper)...It gets stuck in the same loop cycle that the installation process gets stuck in...except this time it's with the default home launcher.
Any ideas?
Try the failed boot restore. Interrupt the boot, ten times, and it will do a complete system restore.

Any other options outside of this?
I was able to send zeam launcher via downloading from market.android.com
That enabled me to get to the AppMenu where I could change my keyboard to the stock keyboard...
I now have a keyboard back up and working.
What I don't have? I cannot install any apps or set a default home. Do you think this has something to do with the Nook Home replacement app that I had downloaded?
Update:
I guess to add a description...
So I can't open any menus that don't already have default applications...when I try to, they keep popping up over and over and over again.
I can never select anything when the popups are going on. I can double-tap nook home and it takes me back to the stock home. I installed
Nook Color Apps Manager via market.android.com (it has push install so I didn't have to worry about choosing a package installer)
I uninstalled ADW Ex, the Nook Home Launcher Replacement for rebinding the Nook key, Go Launcher Ex, and Zeam.
Next Update:
After uninstalling Dolphin and Firefox nightlies, it took me back to default Browser. I was then able to reboot the NT. My problem of not being able to select on a screen that didn't have a default app already disappeared.
However, after redownloading the HomeCatcher.apk, I was unable to rebind the double tap to my launcher of choice.
A reboot and a fresh download of HomeCatcher.apk has it working again.
Everything is pretty much back up and running at this point.
Final Update
Everything is back up and working. I hope this thread is helpful to someone at some point if they struggle with this same problem.
I'm posting updates as I go in case anyone encounters this same problem...maybe what I am doing will help you fix the issue without having to do an entire factory reset:S
--twlauncher crash problem solved, see below. Feel free to answer general question though
Hi all!
Ran into a problem with my Galaxy S that I'd be really greatful if you could help me with.
THE QUESTION:
Is there some way of accessing the phone from my PC via USB and changing settings?
THE THING:
I have been running my system without problem for a while. Haven't made a backup though, stupid #%ยค as I am. When I was using the (stock) Internet browser I tried to add a (mobile) web page to the Start panel (or whatever it is called). Since then I get the error message "The application Start (process com.sec.android.app.twlauncher) has stopped unexpectedly." Gives option to "Force Close". Whenever I do, the error comes back after a few seconds if I am at the default screen and don't quickly go into the phone or sms app. Basically, I can't do anything that my Ericsson T10 couldn't do in 1999...
I think all of my "start screens" were already filled with apps, that there wasn't room for another, and this might be the problem that causes the twlauncher crash loop.
THE QUESTION (again, in context):
So, is there some way of accessing the phone from my PC via USB and changing settings? During my searching I've come to believe that two possible solutions might be to clear twlauncher's settings or to set another launcher as default, but in the current state I can't get to the settings neither from the started phone or from the Darky recovery console.
I know I could just wipe and reinstall everything but that feels like nuking a mosquito...and it's so tedious... If there is some smoother way to get at the problem that would be nice. Also I'm curious if it can be done, and I'm probably not alone.
THE SYSTEM:
Samsung Galaxy S (GT I9000)
Rooted
Android 2.2.1
Darkys' ROM v9.4 Extreme edition
Voodoo
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!
/Fredrik
Ok folks, I am happy again!
It seems things fix themselves for me if I only write a thorough post on some forum...
I went to android market with my PC, logged in with my google account (where I had apparently added my phone before) and downloaded another launcher (ADW) to replace my crashed twlauncher. After that I fiddled some more with the phone - obviously turned off network mode from the power menu (the menu that you get when holding the power button 3 sec). And then I wrote the above post.
Just now I was going to make a phone call (which was about the only thing working, remember?) but the screen had gone all black except from the status bar at the top, which didn't respond when I tried to pull its menu down. Brought up the power menu. At first it didn't respond to my touch but after a while it agreed to turn on network mode for me. Then ADW downloaded and installed itself. I still couldn't pull down the status bar menu to click on the "Download complete" icon and launch ADW that way, but I pressed the Home button and got a menu asking "Complete this task with:" and some choices. I ticked the box "always use this program" and selected ADW. Now, ADW started and I am back on track! No wipe or reinstall needed!
SO, short version solution to twlauncher crash loop: log into your Android market account from a PC, search for "launcher" and install one of your choice, then wait for the phone to download and install it. Then press Home, tick "Always use this program to complete this task" and select your new launcher!
Yeah, that solved my problem with Tw.launcher but if anyone has an answer to the question in the thread - is there a way to log into the phone from a PC to change settings - feel free to share your knowledge!
Addition - resetting twlauncher to be able to use Kies
Ok, after installing another launcher as described above, proceed with the following to prevent twlauncher from crashing in the future. You will need to this do if you want to connect with your computer using Kies, since Kies apparently cannot connect to other launchers (such as GO launcher or ADW).
1. Open Settings | Applications | Manage Applications.
2. Go to the tab "All" and scroll down and tap on twlauncher (or maybe it is called something else, on mine it is "Start" - check the twlauncher crash message to get it, or follow the instructions below under "Another way..." to find it in the Home button menu. You still need to complete the whole procedure to get it running though).
3. Tap the "Clear data" button. This clears your settings, i.e. the app shortcuts that you put on your start screens.
DONE!
In my case I believe the twlauncher crash was due to adding one more shortcut to an already full app drawer, so when I cleared the settings I can use twlauncher again.
USING TWLAUNCHER TO CONNECT WITH KIES
Now you can use the Home Swithcher app to launch twlauncher if you want to use Kies, and when you are done you can use Home Switcher again to switch back if you prefer the other launcher you installed.
Another way to get back to twlauncher if you don't have Home Switcher, is to go to Settings | Applications | Manage Applications, find your current launcher (e.g. GO launcher or ADW) and tap the "Clear default" button. Then (when you have exited back to the start screen) if you press the Home button, you will be asked which launcher you would like to use to complete the task. Select twlauncher (or "Start" whatever it's called). After you're done with Kies you can switch back the same way if you don't want to use twlauncher as default.

Such a great thread and no one else has added anything else to it I'm dealing with this crap atm and it is even worst. Holding power doesn't pop up the power menu. Cant access settings. I can bring the notification bar down and turn on wifi but it doesnt actuallly connect to my wifi so I can't do the remote app installation from the web store. I really don't want to do a factory reset.
as was asked here, is there a way to clear the data of the TWLAUNCHER app by using my pc and usb connection to the phone? I'm able to turn on usb storage and access it. Halp!
I have an idea
You can try installing some launchers (like Niagara for example)
And then set it to launch the app launcher automatically when opening the dual screen. Hope it works for you
Just gave it a shot. It does work as far as the launcher opening on the left screen, but pressing home on the left side takes you back to launcher 2.
This means you'd have to turn off the screen and turn it back on or close and open the case and reunlock the phone to get it to open.
Great idea though, I thought it would force it open on the main screen, but nope!

Some launchers work like opening an app. Niagara is one of them. You can make a shortcut for it, in floating bar?
I use Nova Launcher on the main display and quickly 3-finger swipe apps to the Dual Screen if needed. My Dual Screen homescreen only has widgets on them., I don't use the launcher on it.
Could you use launcher hijack to make it work? Like the Kindle Fires solution for the stock launcher replacement, that opens the launcher of choice upon pressing the home button?

Launcher Hijack does not work, I just tried it.
I use Microsoft's launcher. And usually Swiftkeys. You would think with Duo coming out in a year these products would support this phone. I'm a little disappointed they don't yet.
I found a slightly quirky but reliable method to do this. See my attachments, same launcher on both screens. The one with the notification bar is the main screen, one without is dual screen.
It works with home launchers with a way to get to their home screen via shortcuts. I use nova
Instructions:
0. Make sure you have navigation bar selected instead of gestures in phone settings>display>navigation bar
1. Install App Cloner (the real one, not on Google Play) and make yourself a duplicate of nova or etc.
2. Backup your current launcher settings
3. Open and restore from backup on the second copy of your launcher
4. Install Pie Control from Google Play or etc
5. You can setup pie control as you like. You'll likely have the home button setup as one of your gestures. But this home button will only of course open a single launcher, you can't change it to use a different launcher on each screen. So, add another gesture that you'll use for the second screen.
6. On your selected gesture, set what it does to shortcut>nova (it will be the second nova on the list)>default page (this is the main home screen of your launcher).
7. To get to your launcher on the second screen, just tap your second screen, then do your gesture you set to the shortcut on your main screen. You'll see your fave launcher open on the second screen.
I know this isn't ideal, but it works great for me and if there's still anybody out there looking for this, here you go.
