I've seen some threads about CM supporting it on yhr g1 but haven't seen any rims for the vibrant that have this feature. Anyone know of any roms that have it already?
I have volume control on my headphones and I would like to use the physical volume switches as track switchers or a play/pause and a next track button. Thanks

Hey all, I'm trying to figure out how to change track that I'm playing without using the screen. On all my other phones, I could simply press and hold the volume up or the volume down key. This doesn't work for me. Is there any apps I can use?

Power amp has the option i believe...Put music on internal....
I use the iPhone headset a lot when out and about, because I don't like the being insulated from the surrondings. The iPhone headset has volume controls as opposed to the SGS2's, that only has the play/pause button. Now, I would like to know, if it's technically possible to enable support for volume control on the iPhone headset?
I understand that one would have to alter the sec_jack.kl, which is found in system/usr/keylayout/. Something like this:
key 163 MEDIA_NEXT WAKE
key 165 MEDIA_PREVIOUS WAKE
key 226 HEADSETHOOK WAKE
key ??? VOLUME_UP WAKE
key ??? VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
However I have no clue how to find out the key mapping for the volume buttons on the remote control.
Help is much appreciated.
play/pause? take a look a the manual, i can switch tracks with my original headset.
I would HIGHLY appreciate it if this was solved. I have the Klipsch X10i headphone..amazing stuff..and the center button works, but obviously the volume buttons dont. It would be nice if it did!

You missunderstood, I know one can change tracks with the original headset. And even on the iPhone headset the middle button works. However, what does not work are the volume control buttons. And that's what I'd love to add sec_jack.kl file.
Changing the file won't work. Use logcat to check what keys are fired - no keys are fired in the Android system by the volume buttons. At all. So unlikely to get a fix using this method...
i got iPhone in-ear headset with one button..
but the microphone doesnt work at all in calls..
the button works 4 playing/pausing tracks..
but what to do 4 microphone..
can any1 help me plz????TIA

The only solutions are the apps which allow you to use the middle button for volume. Volume buttons don't work.
Still no way to make it works ?
I'll really loved to...

Still no way. Even the new Klipsch Android earbuds have only a single button...
FYI, the Klipsch app in market which is designed to be used with their headphones to allow multi tap of dingle button to add volume and other functionality works on non klipsch headphones also, and is free!!!!!!!
As I know there are some possibilities with re-soldering some resistor inside HF remote control.
For now there are no any messages in kernel log for Iphone's volume keys.
I know this is a resurrection of an old thread, but this is relevant current information...... The stock S4 earphones have a volume control, and I have tested them working on my S2.......

How can I use my volume and playback control from my headphones on.my android.
3VO 4Life
Those volume buttons generally only work with Apple products, you can however remap the play button for a variety of functions using an app called Headset Button Control, it's on the market.
Do you think it would be possible to enable it? It's a pain to change track with the touchscreen honestly..
I know that it's possible to do it with Cyanogenmod, so basically we need a ROM ?
I believe PlayerPro and Poweramp can do that, maybe some others. I use Cubed and it doesn't.
Poweramp can't do that
Are there any news on this front?
I'm guessing you want to control playback without looking at the screen.
I have the same need, so I got a Jabra Clipper.

Try Tactile Player from the market, free or paid. I've been using it with the N7 player and it works. Double click buttons to change tracks, that way you still have single click control of volume. Play/pause with power button clicks.
Just select emulate headset controls in the app.

Thank you very much for posting this. Works great with the stock music player.

That is GREAT! Thank you even though I have problems. It's a mess with voodoo sound, when I change track with a double press the track does change but the volume keeps rising I use PowerAmp but I suppose it's system-wide

It seems like it keeps rising but I don't think it actually does. After going forward a few tracks you see the volume bar getting higher, but if you hit the volume down to make it quieter the volume actually hasn't moved.
Great app, but it's irritating that if you hold down one of the volume buttons it'll fly through tracks rather than turning the volume up or down substantially.
I'm still gunna use it though, this is exactly what I've been looking for to use while driving. It's such a pain in the ass to unlock the thing, go to the music player and find the right spot on the touchscreen to skip tracks while driving.
the analog volume does rise with voodoo sound at the point you can't stand it, maybe you don't use voodoo sound? and yeah the fact that you can't change the volume without getting crazy is a problem :-(
I thought the player did not support voodoo sound since it does not use the Wolfson chip???

I think the 4.0 players have the Wolfson chip, 5.0's use the Yamaha AFAIK.
yes I have the 4.0 player, what are you using?
I'm on US 5.0 player.
I'm not too concerned since I have Wolfson chip on two other devices. And the Yamaha chip doesn't sound 'bad' just not as good as the Wolfson.
you could always get one of those "shake" to change tracks apps then you don't have to worry about volume changing when skipping tracks.
Can someone confirm if it's possible to change the track with the volume keys while the screen is turned off.
I can currently do this with my nexus 1 running cm7
Thanks

Nope. You can't. Volume keys are for volume up/down purpose only. But you can swipe the clock in the lock screen to get the music player widget, where you can change tracks.
Well it may be adjustable with CM when it comes out for the S, so I wouldn't give up hope. It's just not available in stock .
I don't get why OEMs make this a part of the stock firmware. Its a very useful feature especially when listening to spotify.
