I searched the forum for oovoo and got no hits so if this has been answered before, I apologize.
Does anyone know how to disable or uninstall the ooVoo app at startup? I kill it under Applications -> Running Apps after every reboot but I would like a more permanent solution.
root, find the oovoo.apk in /system/app and delete
or just rename it oovoo.apk.bak if you may want it later.
root explorer is the easiest way, installing busybox and doing it from a terminal emulator or adb shell are the free ways to do it.

Root your streak, install super manager and then delete the apk as above, you can then install it from the market if necessary and uninstall at your leisure.

Asked and answered already.
1. Root the phone.
2. Install Root Explorer, Root Uninstaller, Super Manager, or any program that can manipulate system files when rooted.
3. Find the Oovoo apk.
4. Backup then delete the apk, or just delete the apk.
5. Reboot.
6. Enjoy your Oovoo-free phone.

Ok this might be a stupid question but is there anyway to make this work on the mytouch 4g ? I moved from the vibrant to the 4g and I really dont want to use a normal task killer . I really liked how this worked . Thanks in advance !
Will this work on axura 2.2.5.7?
Update: I tried to install this but it didn't work. :-(

I downloaded and installed it right from this thread....didn't use root explorer. What is the correct way to install this, if mine was wrong.

Root Explorer or adb push to /system/app. Don't try to install like a normal app.
I just installed root explorer. Is this [LINK] a good tutorial on how to use RootExplorer... I couldn't find a step by step tutorial on xda.
root explorer is easy to use.
its just like using the stock files, but you can see other things that require root.
if your installing a app, and it won't let you install by just clicking it, then you go to the file, menu, copy/move, then go to system/app/ then paste/move it there, and then get out of that app, and in your app drawer, the app should be installed.
I'm running Cyanogen Mod on my Vibrant, and trying to get this APK installed. Using Root Explorer, I copied/pasted the APK to the system/app directory, but this didn't do anything.
Other things I tried:
- Opening all permissions to the APK that is in the system/app directory
- Rebooting
- Verifying that "allow non-market apps" is checked
- Using Root Explorer to browse to app, selecting it and choosing "install"
Nothing is working. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this an incompatibility between the Task Manager "JobManager.apk" and Cyanogen?
Thanks in advance for anyone's advice.

More than likely, its an incompatibility issue between I'm assuming a 2.2 ROM and a CM7 which is 2.3.

The SAFEST way to uninstall system apps is like this:
1. install root explorer
2. use it to go to /system/app
3. click on the mount RW button at the top
4. use multiselect to select all the crap you don't want
5. tap on "move" and go to /data/app
6. mount rw here too
7. paste. with passion.
8. reboot your phone
9. you'll see all those apps are now uninstallable through the application manager . use mini uninstaller though, it is much faster and nicer.^^
If you are a lazy bug, use titanium backup, but i warn you, this thing doesn't uninstall like it should be done, so remnants will remain for sure. most of the time it doesn't matter, but sometimes it can **** up your phone and display stupid force close errors. good day, sir.

What about free software?
Em... you don't seem to understand.. okay, there are two types of apps: system apps and user apps. the only difference is that system apps cannot be uninstalled. so, stock crapware, like trials and things SE doesn't want you to uninstall are marked as system apps. even if they are freeware. mini uninstaller displays all uninstallable apps, so if they appear there, they can be uninstalled. you can download it from the market.

That was the question. Root explorer is not free.
I have just tried to use "super manager", free in market, but with no succes.
If anyone can help me to use this program?. Thanks.
If only is the big question here ,maybe someday i'll invent an app that will uninstall without having to root the phone

I unistalled some apps with TB Pro, but noticed that Assassin Creed dwmoe still was there so I came here searching just to find out that TB it's not all that I think it was... :-$
But ok, at least I now know of this "mini uninstaller" and ran to the market, just to find out that was removed. :-\ :'(
Already googled but can't find it, if someone still have could please upload it here?
Try also absolute system tools not sure it it works without root but it might and have you tried searching the 4 shared site for mini uninstaller?

In any case you need a rooted phone.
The market has some free system app uninstallers you can try.
I dont remember which one I used since I uninstalled it when I finished getting rid of the system apps.
The X10 mini wiki contains instructions.
i use systemapp remover from market, works fine.

had to post in Q&A instead
I would recommend using flashtool. How to link
After rooting i used root explorer to remove some "clutter" apps but i can find where i can remove these items? Any one know where i checked system/app but they are not there? Also is dell sync required?
Thanks
i just checked mine and the apps are there. i use titanium backup to uninstall what i don't need.
What are they titled? And they are under system/app ? Also cant you only delete with titanium pro? not the free which i have tried and there doesnt seem to be that option?
hmm never mind i see them now, under the backup tab if i click i can delete What about dell sync is that required?
From the 2.2.2 stock rom I was able to remove oovoo and anything labled Roxio/Nero without any issue. I left the Stage software installed.
I remove sync and welcome every time i setup and for the first time just froze stage

What do you mean "froze" stage? Anything else that can deleted that extra crap is cool so if you have removed stuff and nothing critical happened let me know ppl.
I use titanium backup to remove apps. You can also freeze apps so they don't run but are still on the phone

I install ADWLauncher EX before unistall and delet all the bloatware plus all Dell Stage UI using Root Explorer and my device works fast and smooth without any problem
so just wondering when i choose a default launcher for streakdroid 1.9.0 in the install.txt will the others still be on the phone? and if not is there a way to keep them all on the phone with the install?
You will get only the one you select. Not a big deal, open the 190 zip file and look for the other apk files and install them. If you do not like them you will still be able to unistall them. Will take a little more work to delete any if you install them durinv the install of the ROM.
Hope this helps

It *should* be as simple as replacing the new Market .apk file with the older version. i believe it has something with *vending* in the name, but can't remember exactly at the moment.
Now the tricky issue here is the Market has a built in, imo *hidden*, auto update feature. Another words, google coded the market app to silently auto upgrade itself without prompting the user or asking the user for permission.
Even if you were to load the old version of the Market app, w/o modifying the actual Market .apk, I don't think there is anyway to guarantee google won't silently upgrade you.
hope that helps!
on a personal side note, my evo 3d is still on the old market app .. i've just been waiting for the silent upgrade ..
Thanks.I can just delete it when it happens but I can't find an old vending apk

I had some trouble reverting, but was able to get it to work on my Droid Charge with Gummy 1.85, so this may not apply to you.
You will need:
-com.android.vending_2.2.6.apk (can't remember where I got it, sorry)
-Anroid Injector (Windows App)
-Computer with data cable
1. With Root Explorer, delete /data/data/com.android.vending-1.apk (or similar)
2. Plug in USB cable, make sure USB storage is not on
3. Open Android Injector
4. Select com.android.vending_2.2.6.apk
5. Open Market, it will Force Close
6. Go to settings, applications, manage applications, all
7. Select com.android-vending (or similar)
8. Force Close, Clear Data
9. Restart Phone
10. Check to see if it works, it may crash a couple times, may need to restart again.
11. Freeze the god-awful Market Update with Bloat Freezer (or similar)
good luck, I got it work, but had no success with 2.3.6
Also, an APK installer may work instead of Android Injector
What verision of the market were you trying to downgrade to??
Locked & Loaded
"" Shooter on Deck ""
quick update as I am really tired and need to sleep.
I succeeded in getting 2.2.6 to work on the Droid Charge using Gummycharged 1.85.
However, on Gummy 1.91 it crashes every time I select an app within the market.
I will do a factory reset and try again. I tried 2.26, 32, and 36 without factory reset without luck. I hope I can get it working, I can't stand the new market. I'll post results. In any case, simply making sure you get the Froyo version of the market if you are on Froyo is important.
Another thing thats easy enough is use Titanium Backup to uninstall the market. Then use an APK installer to install. Then clear cache and it should work, but may require a restart or two.
If I can't get the old market working, I may revert to an older ROM or pursue a solution to kill the update notifications (Thanks Google, I'm so glad you keep telling me that I have 80 updates. Great. Thanks. )
