I don't know if anyone has had a chance to look at the video of the HTC evo 3d, but I think the launcher is awesome, especially the carousel like view of the screens when you scroll through.
Anyone want to port that to the atrix?
Porting Sense has always been a huge task, and porting it to a phone with a locked bootloader will probably be even more of a task.
In launchers, animation customization is huge right now, so try bringing it up to one of the launcher devs who already uses custom animations (ie go launcher).

I really like the sense weather animations, but I love having 5 rows of icons on my launcher, like launcher pro, and adw.
I'm going to post in that thread, and ask if the dev can make a version for the shift, but maybe one of our very capable devs could work on this, too....

I'm assuming you're looking for this mod on Gingerbread build? I know the MikRom v 1.1 had this for froyo build.

Yes, I'd like to see this for gingergread. I just wish HTC made this an option in Sense. It's not like the screen sizes they are using, or the resolutions they use won't easily support it.
Not 100% sure but I think you have to edit the build.prop file and change lcd screen density. I've done it before but it broke some animations from showing up right

Why doesnt someone make a launcher that mimics htc sense? like you have all these gingerbread launchers, honeycomb launchers, etc but no ones made a launcher dedicated to mimic htc sense? im tempted to google how to make launchers and make one lol then mabe put it on the market. what does everyone think?
You know HTC will make a copyright claim...
And also if you wanted a htc style launcher get launcherpro and there's many themes out there that are htc sense themed.

Whats up with the transitions for the amaze? Where can you turns those off? I mean I've looked just about everywhere; the square transition from page to page is annoying. Any way to turn it off or change it? Thanks
You can't change the page transitions on Sense, if it's too much to put up with, you could always use a third party launcher such as Go Launcher Ex or ADW Launcher Ex

Meh...this is one of the things i hate about sense...
HTC needs to step it up with sense. yeah they got sense 4.0 now but thats probably exclusive to the V X and S from the One series, until someone ports the roms over...I don't like the lockscreen, the app page, transitions, bland everything..its so bad. it's aosp for me or 4.0...but since i like ics ill deal with it for now... but it doesnt even feel like ics ;\

Go to
Settings > Develop Option scroll down and find Transition Animation Scale and Window Animation Scale. Turn them off.

Title says it all. I've been cycling between sense, apex, go, and nova, but can't decide which one to stick with. I'm leaning towards nova. What do you guys think about your launchers?

I'm pretty impressed with Sense 4.0. My OG Evo was senseless 100% of the time, but I don't feel bogged down by it this time around.
I still have Apex installed and use it too... But find that I don't mind using sense.
Honestly, if someone modified sense to
A) accept gestures and b) added one more row to the home screen
I don't think I would really leave it.
The "frequent" tab in the app drawer and native folder support makes all the difference.

Nova for the drawer tabs.
Apex
Swyped from my eVo
Nova. Been using it since ICS launched.

I agree...they made some quality improvements to it.
I normally switch the launcher quick but this time I'm still on Sense...not bad!
HTC Sense 4.
Mainly because I'm a Sense fan, I don't have a legit reason why .vs other launchers but it's what drew me to HTC.
Before it was just because they made the best WinMo phones.

Yup. Same here. I suppose mist of the things I like about it could probably be found in other launchers. Familiarity, I suppose. I like the adjustable transparency in app drawer, and resize all Widgets, and changing desktop grid (which i know is available in other launchers, well,...except sense)

Nova. I'd go Sense if they would add 1 more row to the screens and give me a larger / scrolling dock
I used to be a huge fan of LauncherPro until the developer dedicated all his time and effort to a music app and abandoned the launcher replacement that everyone loved. I just stick with Sense because I know I won't have to worry about any issues.
I like apex, up to seven customizable icons in the dock and landscape homescreen.

Oh, I almost forgot. Nova allows for vertical scroll in app drawer, which I love. I don't like having my desktop and drawer scroll the same way. Confused my muscle memory. Or I'm just that thick lol.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I like both Apex and Nova. Just wish one of them would add the ability to customize the app drawer grids (5x6, 6x6, etc.) and icon resizing.
I am using stock sense for now but have used Apex mostly on my tablet. I will probably use Apex once I get bored of stock or if I try out CM9 at some point.
I am not a huge fan of the rotating screen transition HTC uses so I may change a little early just to get the normal slide transition back.
I might also try Nova or whatever launcher allows the vertical scrolling app drawer. I'm not a fan of the paginated style. I feel like it was done to hide lack of smoothness of the phones in the past.
i am using apex and cant use anything else. now that themes are there too. there is a free black theme that gets rid of most of the blue. very nice
i use adwpro

I don't know a way to make Sense rotate and since the charger/usb for these phones is on the side, a dock with Sense seems useless. I use APEX usually.
sense on all HTC phones is my pick because it ties in with everything else so much. if it was a nexus or aosp i would use apex
I've always wondered if it was possible to use HTC's widgets (specifically the clock and weather widgets) on CM9 or any other custom rom for that matter. I've always been limited to only using Sense custom roms because I really enjoy HTC widgets. Thanks!
Sense widgets only work on Sense ROMs
though there are similar widget skins available for Beautiful Widgets and for Fancy Widgets

Similar does not equal same though. I really like the HTC Sense clock and weather widget. Its truly beautiful. And its truly a flip clock with the flip animation. The ones from Beautiful Widgets and Fancy Widgets don't compare imo. They don't look as good and they don't do the animations...

even more so with the Sense 4.0 version being much better than the older ones, unfortunately, it's one of the trade-offs of switching launchers, or to AOSP ROMs.

I have a hard time believing these devs can't find a way to recreate that flip clock. They can't rip that out of a sense ROM?

I believe that Sense apps and widgets are proprietary and require libraries that are only found in Sense ROMS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Fancy widget originally did recreate HTC's flip clock but then they got a Cease and Desist letter from HTC

I would also love the Sense clock on an alternative launcher.... Its awesome
The problem is all sense widgets work off the sense framework and sense resources. That's what makes it difficult to port to a aosp Rom.

I was hoping to come back to this thread and see better news. So is it official? No HTC weather or clock on any other roms? HTC really messed up with the way they handle multitasking in my opinion. That is why I need to go to a different rom. I just want to take the clock and the weather with me
see the thing is. it wouldn't necessarily be all that difficult to port them over its just that they can't... their HTC's widgets not googles. there is weird licencing and such around it which is why you can't find anything that looks JUST like them in the market and why they have never been in aosp roms or in launcher other than the htc launcher that comes on htc phones.

So are you saying the creators of these roms may get sued by HTC if they included the clock and weather widget in there rom? Or are you saying it is impossible to find these widgets because they aren't a simple file or apk? Sorry if this is a basic question

both, they're APKs, but they're also 100% completely tied to HTC's Sense framework and files, so they're never gonna be found outside of a Sense ROM, and it's also why they're not available outside of the Sense launcher.
You could try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627140
Sense is built DEEP into the ROM. You can't just rip a piece out of it and expect it to work
Or, you may want to look at these -
