Hello everyone,
My x10 screen is kinda jumpy when i initially slide my finger on the screen. like on the home screen or in web browser, if i pick my finger up and place it back down then slowly slide it, it take about 3 or 4 milimeters before the touch is register and the rest of the screen suddenly jumps to the position where the finger is. But if i leave my finger on the screen and slide it around it does not jump anymore, its only when i pick my finger up and place it back down, its like the touch has a dead band or something and doesn't get register until it is slide away at a certain radius from where it was initially started.
Like on an iphone, the touch is register right away as soon as my finger is placed on the screen. like when i place my finger on the screen and make a really small slide movement the screen will respond to even the smallest finger movement. but on the x10 i have to slide my finger for a small distance for the screen to acknowledge the presence of the touch and then the screen jumps to the position.
It might not bother some of you but it make it look not smooth in scrolling.
is there anyway to make it to the screen acknowledge the touch right away.
Thanks
What firmware 1.6 or 2.1 r u running or ROMS r u running?

I'm using the stock sony ericsson 2.1 firmware with jit mod.
Are you not experiencing this twitchy effect on your device?
No i am not. What version of jit do u have?
Jit is probably doin that
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 CM Rom from Rendeiro2005
That's strange. well how do i know what version of jit do i have. can i uninstall it?
The jumpy effect i'm talking about is, let say on you main screen, then you pick up your finger and place it back down onto the screen and then slowly slide it about two or three milimeter to the left or the right, the scrolling desktop doesn't acknowledge the touch right away until you slide your finger a little further than about three milimeter away from the original position where you first place your finger, then the desktop scrolling just suddenly jumps right into position. It hapen on all scrolling in everywhere else too, not just the desktop screen. the scrolling doesn't start as soon as you place the finger on the screen.
But as long as i keep my finger on the screen to scroll around its fine, its just when i pick up my finger and place it back down again when it reinitialize the touch again.
Everyone with a 2.1 ROM has it. It's because of the FPS cap. When bootloader gets cracked this will be fixed
You need to tweak the maxeventspersecond in the build prop to 260...
Makes a huge diff!
Search maxevents on here to find the exact line to add to your build prop...
Or just switch to cm 6.1.3 by wolfbreak
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=260
Add that to your build prop
just tried that windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=260 trick. it only made the scrolling smoother. but the touch acknowlegement from the screen is still the same. i had to slide my finger for about two to three milimeters for the screen to respond. when i do it fast it look smooth. but when i do it slow i can see the screen just suddenly snaps into position when i slide my finger just a little bit.
somehow i have a feeling sony ericsson use a cheap technology digitiger for the x10.
oh well.

Try froyo.. wolfbreaks cm 6.1.3 is smooth as silk. I have none of the issues you describe, my touchscreen reacts instantly

ever notice when your hands become moist...and when u r pressing an alphabet on the soft keyboard.after u release your fingers..the button will remain pressed or some totally different button will be pressed.
also once u press the keyboard, it will start pressing screen alphabets on its own?...as if some ghost has taken over control.
also..when hands are moist....and u try to unlock the screen or take the call...the slider wont respond to your fingers movement..and i have missed so many calls due to this.
just simple function was tapping on an app becomes so difficult as it ll open up some other app..
i am thinking it could be due to the default screen protector film provided from factory.
anyone with any other android phone face such a problem?
iphone 4 doesnt have this problem

It happens with and without the screen protector. I'm not sure if I have ever experienced this on an Iphone, or as prevelent as on the x10.

havent noticed it on other phones.
including X1i ..the first xperia running crappy windows mobile.
i mean touchscreen does give problem with fingers are wet.
but here when fingers are even slightly moist..it starts acting unusable.
i am thinkin of changing the factory fitted protective film
Yea it does get really annoying... and then when it's cold, the warmth from your finger produces condensation on the screen, so I have to sometimes wipe the screen and my fingers dry before the phone's usable.
I agree, it is really hard especially when you press the delete key on your keyboard and erase everything!
I hope that this problem gets solved when multi touch get released, because the screen reception is handled different than now
That's why I keep a towel attached to the hook on the bottom of the phone.

Ok, the X1 was resistive, and under no circumstances whatsoever will wet fingers effect a resistive touch screen like this... Obviously if you use a resistive touch screen under water, you will have some problems.
Apple have been doing capacitive touch screens for a lot longer than sony, so they've probably got their act together on that... Mind you, this is of course one of the drawbacks of the capacitive screen - it will never be as accurate as the resistive versions...
I don't know too much about capacitive screens, but I know you could adjust the sensitivity on a resistive screen... perhaps there's an app somewhere... maybe

No use in removing the factory screen protector. Tried that before to see whether it improves the responsiveness, but it did either.
iPhone 4 also does have this problem and hence it's not related to phones, but it's their behavior under the given circumstances.
This is really annoying, missed so many calls and given up on typing so many sms's after starting over 3 times...
It's a pain when it's raining, and leads me to wonder if the new Motorola Defy can really function as advertised.
Still better than resistive, for me at least. My omnia screen is well knackered I guess because I pressed it too hard over too many months.

The most annoying thing is that I can't answer a call because the slider goes half way to the right and then it returns back to the left! Crappy screen! My finger are always wet, I didn't have such problems with other phones, especially the iPhone was awesome..
guys this happen with me only while my x10 is charging...but still confusing i'm totally disappointed from SE because of many things the battery performance and so many things....
I wonder if there's a way to make the menu and back buttons act as red and green buttons on traditional phones?

I just got my Dell Streak a week ago, I really like it so far, but I've had a pretty vexing problem come up today.
I had it in Silent mode, and when I woke up the screen and went to "Slide to Unlock", the whole bottom of the screen was unresponsive. I had to let the screen time out and try it again at least three times.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm running the Stock 2.2 on Rogers, and using ADW Launcher Pro as my launcher. No other major UI Tweaks.
I can confirm that I do experience that problem sometimes. The S2U moves just a little bit, but but I can't slide it all the way over. I'm also using LP+ as my default launcher. I guess it would be a good test to run the Stage UI as a test to see if it's related to LP+ or not.

I had this same problem, but I noticed that it only occurred if I had the screen facing my leg when it was in my pocket.
I think that what is happening is that when it's in your pocket it still detects screen presses by your leg, and then it gets confused, and won't detect any more screen presses for a long time.
To begin with it stopped me from answering calls and was really annoying, but now I just make sure I put it in my pocket with the screen facing out and it works fine.
Yall need to recalibrate ur screen that helped mine never to be unresponsive again! Search for the guide on here cant remember the button combo to get to it i think it was hold camera and power at the same time when turning on but dont hold me to that just search xda its on here
recalibrate the screen, and also its created by the friction/heat from rubbing off your leg (wahay), so either have the screen facing out, or buy a case for it
Since i recalibrated my screen i can have it any way i want in my pocket and it never hangs anymore
Download menu unlock from the market. It will unlock when you hit menu

That's exactly what happened to me all day today! I had it in my jeans pocket with the screen facing my leg! I thought it may have something to do with ADW Launcher, or having it in silent mode all day. I'm recalibrating the screen now!
Mucho Thanks!
I've had the device for about 5 months of use, then I switched over to several other phones. The lower left corner just gets harder and harder to press down on it (and its the frickin app drawer icon area too).
Just wanted to see if this was common, and if I should send it back?
I've set it back to a normal rom and left it on a shelf for quite awhile..
Oh, and did the end of life already come into effect for this line from HTC?
I have the same problem and now the top right corner is starting to get hard to press. Weird thing is, if you use one of those drawing apps it detects the lightest touch everywhere just fine. The problem only occurs when trying to press a virtual button like on the keyboard or the ok button in the market. Its been this way on different keyboards and rom's so I dont really get it.
I had this issue... when the phone gets hot. So on hot days, when it's in the case, the screen starts acting up. It happens across roms, so my guess is that it's not limited to a particular one, and it's a hardware issue. Suggestion: reroot or adjust your clock settings to make your phone run cooler.
I had my first Eris replaced because of a deadspot, seems almost as common as a bad trackball/forever scroll

I'm having this issue. Bottom left is dead and then like, row two from the top is dead for me too.
I've got a spot on the upper right of my screen right below where install is when downloading an app from the market

I had a whole row of sensors go out right along the top of the keyboard. The touch screen continued to get worse until it was unusable. I have best buy btp, so I sent it back and received a refurb from bb.

Strange thing happens to my phone from time
to time. About 3 to 4 millimetres of the left side
of the screen stops reacting to touches. I don't
think it's a hardware problem because when I
switch on auto rotation and rotate my phone a
bottom side of the touchscreen becomes the
left side and it stops register touches as well.

I'm on
[ROM][ICS 4.0.4][Neo/Neo-V]Locked/Unlocked BL] JJ's HYBRID ROM v3.1 Stable |10 Jun|
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542115.
I remember many users reporting that they had problems unlocking their device - it took them up to 5 tries to unlock the phone. I've noticed that if I swipe the "dead" area multiple times quickly the touches get registered about once per 4-6 swipes. I guess it could be the same problem.
Anyhow This are of the touchscreen has been unresponsive for over 5 days now. I have formatted my system/data partitions and on a "clear" rom the area is alive again don't know for how long though. If the dead area moves with rotation of the phone and it's always the left side of the screen being affected whether that be the longer side or the shorter depending on the position of the phone then I guess It has to be software related problem. Am I right?
I could try to visit the service center but I don't feel like leaving the phone with them for the next weeks and also I, ve unlocked my bootloader via sony website so there is a chance that they won't even look at the phone.
Hmm it's pretty weird, i recall there being pretty much the same issue you have, but on MIUI. Contact your ROM dev directly imo or try switching the kernel. A very odd issue indeed....

Is there a secret (or setting) to being able to scroll your list of phone contacts with out accidentally selecting a name just by touching the screen the wrong way?
The screen is so sensitive to the slightest touch that it is almost (for me) impossible to find a location on the screen that won't launch an unwanted name.
Sorry I posted this in the wrong forum.
You must have heavy hands, I mean I have big ol' hands and I can scroll all the way up and down numerous times and never accidentally click on anyone maybe try using a flicking motion LOL
From my DROID DNA
practice slowly at first, you want to press your finger down then keep the pressure and move it down the screen. It took me a little practice the first touchscreen i got
