[Q] Stock Dialer sounds... - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies to any devs for coming across as annoyed......but
It seems there is a trend to change the audio theme of the dialer's buttons to this rather goofy (to me, to each his own) drip-drip-drip sound effect rather than proper DTMF tones. I've been making do with the corporate voicemail system I have to use on a daily basis by utilizing a 3rd party dialer....but I'm to the point I'd rather just get rid of drippety-drip-drip.
My problem is I'm not sure where the audio assets are located, so I can rip them from a stock rom (currently runing Juwe, which is based on 2.2.1 JS8 for the i9000) and fix this minor annoyance for myself.
Any help is appreciated!

if im not mistaken this should be located in the /system/media/audio directory

/system/media/audio/ui
The files are in .ogg
Key0.ogg - KeyAsterisk.ogg and KeySharp.ogg

Well...I have no files remotely like that in /system/media/audio/ui so I'm at a bit of a loss still...

Im fairly certain the twwaterdrop is what you are hearing. Although, the tones you hear when you hit your buttons should be entirely different from the tones the phone sends out on an active line. Your phone should still send normal tones no matter what you hear.

Don't beat yourself up bro, I have been in IT, telecom, and communications since '98. I would never had known that little factoid if another tech who knows a lot more than I do told me that one day. But thats what we have this community for man, to help each other out.

LOL I hear ya. I was phreaking before most in this forum were alive, but in an ironic sort of way it's comforting that I can still miss the obvious.

[Q] Custom Boot Animation - Exporting Issues

I have created a new custom boot animation that I plan on sharing out with the crowd, however I am having issues with the animation playing during start up. I know I have the desc.txt correct as well as the naming conventions. I have tried both png and jpg sequences and to no avail.
I am zipping them up with WinRar as bootanimation.zip w/ "Store" and the compression (no compression).
I have tried all kinds of settings on these files and they just won't display and I am tired of beating my head on the keyboard. The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with the image files themselves. I am exporting them out of After Effects as PNG sequences as well as jpg sequences and have gotten it to start running and then it just stops once it hits a certain frame. Is there any specifics that I am missing as far as settings on jpg or pngs? Is there anything special about exporting them from After Effects?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It shouldn't be this damn difficult, but it's always the easy crap that gives the most trouble.

see if this one works for you(ran it through optimizer to make it a little smaller too).
remove it from the photon-bootanimation.zip and rename it if need be and put it where it goes

Holy crap it worked. What app did you use to optimize these files? (link) And were there any specific settings you used?
I swear it had to be something embedded within the file itself. I had exported from AfterEffects and then tried re-saving them using Fireworks and Photoshop with a bunch of different settings and file types, but nothing worked. I even went as far as tinkering with permissions on the files and set them all to 777. Imagine the frustration.
Thanks a ton, I greatly appreciate it. I'm going to share this one (with proper credit to your help) and I also pitched you a donation.
Cheers!

Thank you for that.
And I will send you the optimizer files later(away from pc and really easy to use if your going to use pngs) as for why it didnt work is at the last line of your desc you need to hit enter (so your last line is blank after the last line of code)open the one I made in notepad++ to see what i'm talking about. I'll pm you a few tips later if you want? Thanks again for donation(saving for more phones and tabs to learn on)
?
wow, I knew it had to be something stupid. Any addl info you can toss my way would be appreciated. Thanks again and feel free to PM anytime.

[REPRODUCED](MOD)(PORT)Beats Audio&Xloud for Galaxy Nexus

Thanks RockoDev!
Original:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226
EternityProject Team,
SHOULD WORK ON ALL ANDROID VERSIONS
Hello i created a zip i pulled the beats audio libs and bin files from a Rom with beats audio and also added the Xloud files to make it sound with better quality and also in some cases sounds even louder i have beats audio headphones and i was able to tell the difference try it out and let me know thanks
This zip might not work for everybodyI highly suggest to be unlocked and nandroid before you flash!!
how to install Beats Audio related files manually
- create folder in sdcard (let say "beatsaudio")
- extract .zip into /sdcard/beatsaudio
- using Root Explorer, access folder /sdcard/beatsaudio/system/*(lib, bin & etc) one by one
- let say you want to copy files in /beatsaudio/system/lib folder first
-> press Menu
-> Multi Select
-> Select All
-> Copy
- paste into /system/lib, and set permission each file as "rw-r--r--" (left-3, middle-1)
- repeat steps above and do it the same with files in your sdcard for /beatsaudio/system/etc and /beastaudio/system/bin
Correct path to paste files
/sdcard/beatsaudio/system/lib --> /system/lib
/sdcard/beatsaudio/system/etc --> /system/etc
/sdcard/beatsaudio/system/bin --> /system/bin

I use the Monster beats tour headphones
Wow worked like a charm! Beats audio hack + DSP manager = head blowing bass!
I'm using the Bose ie2. Opted out for these because they had better overall performance. I felt like the Beats tour had too much bass when used with dsp manager.

Thanks, will try this soon
tested it, works well with Maxell VibraBone earphones.
But not set the permissions, it change nothing to remove group write permission

somehow has screwed up my nexus on AOKP. Not sure whether its a permissions thing or what... once battery charges will try a fix permissions... otherwise i will have to just flash rom over the top (didnt nandroid lol- no big deal)
***EDIT***
not sure what has happened but my whole nexus is screwed now. data partition screwed... everything... buggered if i know what happened. Lucky i do have a nandroid from 2days ago and since then i have used it bugger all (been at a music festival 1 of the days- slipknot, SOAD, machine head etc....
either way, just going to stick with using volume+ now.
Guys, it's been proven that its not currently working. I have no idea how you are hearing differences in audio quality, but these files are NOT doing anything. Tested on a Motorola, but the results should be the same for Galaxy Nexus. I may perform some testing tomorrow with the Galaxy Nexus.

WOW! awesome job! it kinda doubles the speaker volume and enhances the sounds for headphones!

Yep, supercurio also tested this and reached the same conclusion (I think he tried it on his Galaxy SII).
Can someone produce anything, other than anecdotal evidence, that this actually works?

[Q] Want "ping" instead of "plop" when dialling

Now while I like the "nature" theme of the SIII as much as the next guy, I've got one problem with it.
Like the title says, I really dislike the "plop" sound that you get when dialling, and would much prefer to have a proper (?) dialling tone, e.g. where each key has a different note.
Try as I might, I can't find any easy way to switch to dial tones like I had on my old SE X10, so unless someone out there's got a solution, I can see I'm going to end up switching off dial noises altogether.
+1
Why hasn't anyone answered this question? It's important to have these tones when calling an automated system.

It does actually send the correct tone down the line, you just hear a different one locally. It's hard to say if there is an easy fix, because there should be a sound assignment to each key in the Phone apk or related, and if Sammy has replaced them all with a single one, it might not be so easily modified to point each button at a seperate sound.
All I can suggest is to get an alternative dialer, perhaps the AOSP one?
When I called my bank, it didn't work. I switched from short tones to long ones and it still didn't work.
If I can find a different dialer I guess I'll try it.

That's very strange because it's practically a critical feature that the phone dialer can send DTMF tones. I use it regularly myself so I can promise you that it does work for some of us, it could very well be a problem with your bank. Try rip the phone apk out of a Cyanogen build or similar if there are no dependencies, or if you get a dialer from the play Store pay careful attention to how reliable it is and its permissions, just in case.
I asked this question weeks ago and no one has come up with any 'fix' for it...
The tones you hear when pressing a key have nothing to do with the tones the phone sends as described.
Try calling another phone and pressing the keys, you should hear a distinction between all single tones. (If not, please have your ears checked )
Did you have a good connection when calling the bank? The tones heavily rely on a halfway acceptable connection.
If you still want to hear distinct tones, try other diallers such as Go Dialler. They might be able to do it since it's onlce purely cosmetical.
It could be a problem on the bank's end because Google Voice works.

I'm going to agree with what's said here - while plopping noise IS annoying, I've not had any problems with automated "Press 1 for ..., press 2 for ..., or wait on the line and an operator will assist you" services - they all seem to work. So, the problem - for me at least - is purely cosmetic.
I'd assumed that the plop had been part of the theme that Sammy had applied to the SIII, in which case an experienced themer should be able to undo this in favour of some a bit less crappy. Although not being a 'droid developer or themer myself (merely a user) I've no idea where to start looking for that kind of info - fingers crossed that it's in a configuration file somewhere in the system.
I have been annoyed by this also. I myself am so use to hearing dial tones, that I'm just missing the sound, and just want them back.
I found this, where a user replaced the waterdrop with DTMF tones........but its for the Galaxy s......Good news is the zip has all the tone .ogg's. Maybe someone can look and it and figure out a way to port?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361687
I'm also missing the well known DTMF tones and pissed about that bubbles.
"Nature inspired" concept and our device desing is very nice but this chage is absolutely stupid.
Nature don't has phones growing in trees an phone calling couldn't sound like a leaking tap.
Hope somebody was able to port this SII mod to our device...

[Q] Standard tones for keypress on phone dialing

I know it may be petty but I hate the sounds played while dialing a phone number and while your on the phone and need to press a button, the sounds are hideous. Does anybody know a way to get the standard phone key button tone sound applied? Thanks in advance!
After doing some research, it appears that you may have to replace some system sound files to do it..which means you'll have to be rooted. At least that's the solution in the international forums.
Otherwise, you may be better off just silencing the keypress sounds.

[Q] Timely alarm clock as ringtone?

Hello, recently I found out about the AMAZING app Timely. It is absolutely beautiful and works great. I really love the default sounds it comes with, and would like to know if I could get one of the alarms as my ringtone. So is there a way to get the music off this app?

Any chance you could re-post that zip file? The only other way to get the sound files appears to be extracting the apk and I'm not sure I know enough to do that successfully.
You can find timely apk file on your device (in /data/app folder), select it and choose to extract (apk is a package like a zip file). All sounds in ogg format are in res/raw folder

I'm pretty crushed that they've stopped supporting Timely, it really was the greatest Alarm Clock Android has ever seen.
Personally I can't find the .apk file on my phone, but I've found a few other places on the net where it can be downloaded and extracted.
There's even a SoundCloud playlist (I can't post links yet, sorry)
The trick for Dalia (My favorite as well) is that the actual file name is "la_gitar.ogg". I had to listen to them all to find which one it was.
Several others have different names in the app versus the actual file name.
Hope this info helps others.
Cheers!
But.....
Could you tell me where you found the file? I've searched, and still can't find it
Thank you for the help! It's very sad that Timely is no longer supported, best clock app on Android, have been using it for years! 5 plus easy! But at least now I can use the alarm sound I'm used to.
