Battery calibration - Or battery problem - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having an issue with ROMs where I take my phone off the charger and within a few minutes im down to 93% battery. 100-93 in several minutes is quite bad...
Ive tried to calibrate the battery by running it down then charging it backup etc, but it just keeps persisting. Anyone know how to fix this? Erasing battery stats did nothing also...

have you tried power off the phone after it is full charged and bump charging it?

Ya but my phone turns on into CMW recovery each time i plug it in when its off.

You should charge up to 100% and leave it trickle charging for about an hour.. then reboot into recovery and reset the battery stats in Clockwork Recovery.
If you're staying stock, I don't have any other options.

Battery stuck at 78%

Anyone know how I can get my battery back to charging to 100%? I flashed nuetrino yesturday and had to restore my backup, now my phone wont charge past 78% even though it still says charging.

Take battery out, plug phone into wall charger, then put the battery back in the phone. Let it charge for an hour.

Its charging to 4200mV but only saying it's at 78% and still charging. I tried the Juggernaut fix before and it actually killed my battery life. ill try taking the battery out and plugging it in to the wall.

This will definitely fix the problem, but only temporarily. Next time it drains down and I try to charge it up again, it stops at 80-85%. But when you look at the battery stats, it shows 4200.
I've tried wiping the battery stats, applying the Juggernaut fix, following the steps in the ultimate batttery guide -- still have the problem. I even switched back from CM7 to stock ROM and can't seem to shake this issue.
Just totally kill it and then recharge it fully.
Thats what I do whenever I get this problem.

I am having the same problem since updating to gingerbread. Will try deleting files above. First time I´ve seen that advice.
Just an update. Temporary fix for me only. Phone still charges only to 60% after a recharge.tried everything so far with no results.
I switched from the ics mod cm7 to nuetrino and also drained it fully. It now charges to around 93ish%, but my phone normally charges to only about 95-97% even when it was on stock.

this method works to set your current level to 100% or 99%. just did it with 67% remaining and rebooted to see 99% battery. tried wiping batt stats and plugging in without booting but it still saw the batt as full.
luckily i was just experimenting so i had backed up all three of those files and restored them and was back to 67% after reboot. so i'm charging it to the max my phone sees now (87%) and then deleting the files to set that as the new 100%.

Let me know if it sticks after a full discharge and recharge. I deleted the files while i was at 100%, maybe if should have done it while stuck at 60%.

I also just deleted the files, i had a full charge (showing 93% (and thats been the highest in weeks!)), i will post back my findings as well
~~~EDIT~~~
4 hours later, full brightness and no screen timout, i am down to 1%.... just waiting for the phone to turn off. i want to post my results so you guys can see when you come on next... the longest part now is going to be the full 100% charge, which i have not had in weeks.... fingers crossed!
~~~EDIT 2~~~
Well I have been stuck at 93% for the last 30 minutes or so. looks like if you let the phone go dead or power down, it reverts back, or there is something else causing. this issue
It seems to me deleting those files results the same as removing the battery while charging and placing in back.both tips gets you back to 100% but only temporarily for some of us. After a discharge it will not charge to 100%, just as before. I have no idea what is causing it, but my phone battery is about to die from overcharging. like everyone else, it started after a flash.but for some reason it is permanent for some users. Will be getting a new phone if I cannot solve the problem. If anyone had any insights feel welcome to contribute.
ya... after leaving it charge overnight, mine is only at 94%.... so this is only a temp, VERY ttemp fix.
i was thinking the other day, my dad has an Atrix also, his is BONE stock. i was thinking about switching batteries for a day and see what happens.... what do ya think?

Worth a try, I was going to buy a new battery to see if it solves it. from what I have read it is a problem with motorola battery driver and gingerbread. Let us know how it went. Maybe a new battery somehow resets it back into working.

well.... JUST found out that he had his phone on charge all night and guess what.... STUCK AT 90%!!! He has a BONE STOCK, no rom, no root, no nothing, OUT OF THE BOX, Atrix. So thats a twist in this issue. he said he took his battery out with the phone off and when he put it back in, it was 100%. he just told me that the other day it went to 80% charge.

Strange problem with battery

Hi everybody!! I am using Evo Gingermod #7, the thing is that I came back from holidays and started to charge the phone again with the dock. When I get up in the morning it says "5% of battery, please connect you charger"!! So I had to take the charger and the dock with me when I was leaving home. At the office I charged the phone with the charger and surprisingly it charges up to 5% and it stops and when i disconnect it the phone continues charging as it was still pluged in!!.. I tried battery recalibration and it didn't work, tried wiping battery stats and neither.. I wanted to flash an sbf but in rsd mode it says "battery too low to flash".. I tried changing the battery but the same problem.. In some way the phone takes the 5% as the 100% because it is all day turned on with 1% :S
Thanks for reading
Have you tried booting into recovery and wiping cache/dalvik cache?

Strange Problem - Battery Wont Charge to 100%

every time i charge my phone to full, the battery level reads that i'm at 91%, never at 100%. i deleted battery stats in recovery but the problem persists. i got an htc inspire and running absolution 3.7. how do i fix this?
my current absolution rom is a backup. i had 3 different roms before restoring this rom. should i have done a full wipe besfore restoring the rom? could this be the problem why my battery doenst give a good read?
How did you charged before wiping stats?
The best way:
- power off your phone completely
- charge battery
- wait till battery-LED is green (maybe just wait a little bit longer)
- start into recovery
- wipe battery stats

the 3 Roms you used before were Absolution, too, but different versions? So a full wipe is recommended, but shouldn't be essential.
In case of trying fully different Roms, a full wipe / factory reset is neccessary, also if you are using a "xyz"-Rom before and want to roll back to a backup of Absolution-Rom.
also your battery might have started to get weaker. if you use the phone a lot and make lots of charging cycles battery life gets shorter. also if you plug it for a minute or for an hour its considered a charging cycle. so if you have a lot, then you might have to get a new one

Its not a strange problem man, google it, it happens all the time, just keep charging it properly and it will be fine. I wouldnt worry about it, some phones go to 100% and drop like a stone till 90% then go normal, its just the way your phone translates it
I had similiar problem...whenever i played games or anything that used 30% battery or battery was below 20% I pluged to charge but it stayed there for 1:30 hour 0o. So i unpluged and played games till 0% and phone "died". Than removed battery for 2 mins and charged to 100% without turning on...
when you use all of battery take battery out(i dont know why but it makes battery better). This battery in androids really mess up things...hope u fix it

yeah my battery today started off at 97& after full charge. then when i checked on it 6 hours later, it reads like it started at 100%.. this is very strange.
Kind of similar problem with me, Even after keeping my htc one v in charging for 4 hrs, the battery still reaches 85 ~ 90% always, and then it charges at snail's speed.
If i restart my phone at this point, the battery indicator shows 100% !
I am confused, since if it was a genuine trickle charge, the battery percentage should remain same even after reboot.

Discharging battery completely and charging it while it is switched off solved the problem. charging took 2,5 hours but finally the green light is on.

So how come it shows 100% ?
One charge to 100% remove lead wait 5 plug it back in charge 100% .
Boot to recovery and wipe battery stats .
That fails backup data factory reset phone .
That fails return to a service center .

any risk on boot to recovery and wipe stats?

There is no risk because wiping battery stats in recovery doesn't do anything that the phone doesn't already do by itself.
Battery stats are wiped every single time your phone charges to 100%.

Just wanna ask are you pertaining to the one beside the network bars or the ontification 100%?
I too had the same problem took 8 hours to charge from 0% to 100%, I took the mobile to Samsung service center they found the problem is in battery and provide replacement battery.
I had phone over heating problem they solved it now.
Solution for JB error in charging
Dear pals,
i have been experiencing serious error in concern with charging as u guys face. it never charges in JB or it takes more than 9hrs. there is no solution for it until samsung fix the bug in JB. so the solution we can go for is downgrading JB to ICS. this way ur ICS rom is better and smoother. in Addition the CHARGING is proper in ICS. so downgrade and wait fot samsung to fix bug in JB
Can I get a new s3 battery?
I got my s3 few months back
And I hv recently been facing a problem. I have been using the s3 charger. But it takes forevr to charge. 4 to 6% took around 20 minutes. And also it drains out quickly. I was listening to music today for 20 minutes and I lost 10% charge. This is defnitely not normal. I tried removing the battery and putting it again. Switched it off and on. But the problem is still there. So I want to knw whether I can get a new battery for my phone if I show my warranty card for the phone.

A little more info would be nice. What rom are you using? Do you have root permissions? Are you s-off?
The first solution is:
On OVO 3D sometime if battery is charged to 100% he starts to use battery power instead of charger so if the light is green you need just to connect the charger again and it will start to charge again.
And the second:
After you installed some kind of ROM you need to calibrate the battery again. You can do by discharging your phone to 3-5% and then charge it to the full. You need to repeat this process few time and then you have calibrated battery.
Sorry but i forget to say that before recharging you need to delete old Battery stats

The first thing is correct. When the phone is fully charged the charging stops and the phone uses power from the battery.
As for your second statement - you are partly right. Even though most developers say the same thing you said I found the battery calibration is the best way to get the most from your battery. I tried everything that developers suggested and it didn´t work so well. Battery calibration did the trick - now my battery life is great
Anker batteries seem to work the best
Hey. Thanks for the replies. I'm using the 4EXT recovery and KingCobra3D - ICS 1.6 ROM. The thing is that my phone doesn't even charge up to 100%. Is it necessary to discharge the phone to 1-5% and then charge it to full and then calibrate via recovery or can I just calibrate the battery without having to discharge it first?
Also, I have root on my phone and S-ON.
My anker battery has reported like 4000 charge since I got it and I tried using the calibrate app but it still reports the same after a few cycles? It should be reporting 1900.

If you don´t use battery calibration you should go into recovery and wipe battery stats. Then boot up and fully charge the phone and let it discharge to 5-15%. Charge it to full and that should be it.
If you use battery calibration just charge to full, enter calibration app, hit calibrate and that is it

Okay the phone charged up to 100% but it took ages. I've downloaded the Battery Calibration app from the Market and hopefully everything's gonna be well now.
I have battery life issue too. I will try battery calibration.
