Flashing through red recovery? For overstock - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I recently updated from original bionix v to bionix v 1.3.1, using eugene's dead horse 221.
My battery life if pretty good, but I wanna try overstock, and it says to flash through red recovery, but dead horse has a green recovery...
I don't wanna lose my apps again, so how do I go about this without losing apps?

You have to install a stock + voodoo kernel. You wont lose any apps. Titanium backup is awesome for backing up your apps before flashing.

And that's flashable through green recovery? Also, I won't lose sd contents, will I?

The best bet is to undo any lag fix you are using and then flash. If you do that you should be fine.

Okay, I'm not on any lagfix, on rfs right now, but it's still a green recovery...is that okay?

I just flashed to overstock yesterday using CWM, was reading the posts about the red recovery thing. and they were saying meant that if your recovery screen was red you had voodoo lag fix on. i think one guy was having issues because he didnt have the voodoo lag fix on, his recovery screen was blue or green (sorry cant recall).
overstock runs pretty nice on my stock 2.2 KA6. my quadrant have all been about 1500+ with out any overclocking. i got it for the voodoo sound, had the voodoo lag fix previously.

Phi is incorrect..you can have a red recovery without voodoo enabled. OP you need to flash the kb1 stock + voodoo kernal from supercurios thread and then you can flash overstock. Your choice if you want to use voodoo though.

Just did it. I'm on voodoo now...does it really make a difference? Cause I just want better battery life...and I'm also noticing some interference on my screen since installing overstock....it's random though

I can't disable voodoo

I put a new folder named disable voodoo in the voodoo folder and it is still voodoo because It didn't take like 5 minutes to boot and quadrant scores are 1400 +

download that, and flash it through clock work recovery.
This will work with voodoo5?

I'm not sure if supercurio updated the voodoo scripts, but I always used disable_voodoo regular file in the Voodoo directory.

Ditto. I was going to say it should be a file and not a folder, but it looks like you beat me.
Okay never mind I flashed the file and worked then I put nero 2 and now I get the red recovery sombionix was talking about! Thanks all

There is an app in the Market called Voodoo Toggle that makes it very easy to detect if (a) voodoo is enabled and (b) easy to disable it.
If you flashed a custom rom, more than likely the disable voodoo is erroring on calling the format.fat file. In a custom rom that will be either misconfigured, or not even there. Follow this link, and you will find your answers.

Why FROYO?

Hey folks. I' ve been sitting on the fence trying to decide about flashing my phone with NeroV3. The question I have is does it make all that difference? Is the phone noticeably faster? What are changes? Any feedback in this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Just the change from the RFS filesystem to EXT4 with voodoo is significantly faster
Just be careful when you flash a overclocked kernel, most vibrants will freeze.
Be sure you know how to disable vodoo and odin back to stock.
The JL5 Leak from Samsung is faster without any other fixes.
I'm coming from stock. The only real thing I have is root with root apps. Ive already removed OCLF. I recently updated the wifes phone with NAND Desire Sense from windows 6.5 on her HD2, other than that I have no experience. Is the move really worth it? What's different? Internet experience? You guys are awesome!

I am using neriv3twe/with voodoo and im very happy with it only downfall I've found is you can't buy apparently off the market....keep getting a "server error occurred" window...but other than that I love it

Correction on my last post Nerov3TWEwith voodoo
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The buy error is not the rom. It has been working perfectly for me, zero issues. Additionally, froyo offers better gps performance over j 16 with its modems and many other performance enhancements. The voice recognition seems to be working better and jit compiling offers a slight increase in performance over eclair.
if it will be your first time flashing you can try without voodoo because custom roms itself will blow you away.

Blow me away? Nice! With voodoo, wouldn't I still want that or is the lag "fixed" with the Nero ROM. Also, does any of this conflict with the media hub?

Yes if you do flash a custom rom you will really notice a big difference in performance speed. Nero Rom have a built in voodoo you just have to enable it.
Does the Nero conflict with media hub? Also, I assume it has flash 2.2.? Is the only difference that Nero provides is speed? What is different for the UI? I could really do without touchwiz. You guys are awesome! Thanks!

Nero V3 installed and running great! Does not conflict with media hub!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
nerov4.1 is out
If u don't want to do voodoo or one click lag fix, u could always just flash the super io kernal from eugene. Its not as fast at ext2 or voodoo but its a good alternative

Stock JL5 is what I would recommend. If you do not like the touchwiz launcher you can replace it with a barrage of different launchers from the market.

Kernel

I just installed bionix-v 1.2.1 on to my Vibrant. I just learned that team whiskey came out with the DoW14 kernel, and I wanted to know would it be safe to flash it on my vibrant. If so how do I install it on my phone??
Download the DOW zip file and place it on the root of your internal memory. Then flash it using CWR. Then you can download setcpu from the market and use it to overclock your cpu. Also from the market download bln and voodoo sound control apps.

Hey, thanks for responding. Have you heard anything about how the battery life is? I noticed a pretty good drain on my end.

Avatar no play issue

I tried to play avatar few days ago after flashing bionic v 1.3 and I got the unlock pop up. Tried the unlock button and after that didn't work I went to the forums and xda.
I read in the bionix v topic that 1.3.1 has the fix.
I just flashed 1.3.1 and still no joy on avatar. After the flash I got "can not play " statement. Goggled avatar no play vibrant and got the clear drm cache threads.
I go to the drm cache through app manager but the clear cache button is disabled and manager shows 0.0 in the cache.
What am I missing here? are there permissions not correct some where in my phone?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

The kernal that comes with 1.3 is customized and will not play avatar if you want to stay with 1.3 i suggest you go to team whiskeys site and register for forums. In forums near top of page look for shortys files download kb1+voodoo kernal and flash it w/clockwork mod than you can watch avatar.
The reason im sending you to tw site is the search here is very confusing and i dont know where exactly to send you to on xda for this file but i can also say if you want you can also download the overstock kernal and just flash back and forth at your liesure...it only takes about 30 seconds to flash

Re: kb1 + voodoo kernal
Just flashed that kernal and Avatar still doesn't play. Rebooted and still no good. I guess if I flashed v1.3.1 it might work but v1.3 is just too awesome to ditch now.

Phantom lagfix?

Wondering if simply unrooting will remove lag fixes? I rooted 2.2 using SuperOneClick and applied OCLF... Removed OCLF shortly after, but now it is showing I have lag fix installed.. Not sure where it came from. Not sure how to remove it. Can't remove via OCLF.
Stock 2.2... Nothing fancy.

why do you want to get rid of the lag fix? Can't you disable it in cwm?
No it will not remove it by doing super user. Plus I'd leave being rooted and ext4 on. Why do you want to remove it.

Well, its not the lagfix itself im concerned about as much as I am
with which lagfix... I just dont know what it is or how it got there. Is there a way I can find that out? Does it even matter? I just thought it was strange.
