How do i turn off LED notifications? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i get a new email on gmail, or when my battery is running low, the top LED light flashes, and it's really annoying. Is there a way to turn it off? And also, is there a way to make the trackball flash? That never flashes, and i never use it for navigation, so it just feels like a wasted button.

I think its not possible on stock
What ROM do you have? AFAIK its possible on CM based roms, the CM7 (and I think on latest froyo CM roms too) had some customization to this.
Also floyo ROM had one time disabled the LED flash, however the trackball was flashing (maybe it still has ).
ON CM based go settings >>> cyanogenmod >>> Interface >>> LED notifications
white LED = trackball , green, amber >>> the "annoying" one up.

Question about LED notification

Is it possible that when i receive an sms / text message the top LED starts to flicker instead of the bottom one? I'm really looking to this as i find it more convenient that the top one starts to flicker.
Does anyone have the answer?
Well I don't know how you go about setting it, or even if you can, but they do work, depending on what ROM you use. If you use a Sense ROM then the LED will blink fine. On Vanilla ROMs they won't. With some of the older AOSP ROM's around you used to get a static LED, amber/green for sms/gmail notifications. With the latest CyanogenMod based ROMs you don't get anything. Only the trackball pulses, which is cool.
However, Elemag has claimed to have the LEDs working on his new ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708673

[Q] Notification led for sgs2

As we all know, the sgs2 doesn't have notification leds. However, we do have leds under the menu and back buttons. I was wondering if anyone knows of any app that takes advantage of this. I want to use the menu and back button led as a notification led. Periodically flashing would be extremely helpful. I know there is NoLed on the market but that isn't the most elegant solution. Perhaps even using camera flash on minimum minimum brightness could be doable.
You need BLN for that. (Back Light Notification)
1- You have to flash BLN compatible kernel for that. For example- Ninphetamine.
2- You need to have liblights.zip installed. You can find it from Jame Bond thread.
3- You need to install BLN Control Pro for that, free version wont work for Missed calls and stock SMS/MMS app.
4- If you want notification for stock SMS/MMS app then you have to install 'Light Flow Lite' from market.
I was recently using it with that kernel, but I don't like that kernel at all.
Besides flashing too many things for just a simple light notification is very kiddish. Got rid of BLN and back to CF. No intention of getting it unless it start supports all kernels.
Regards.
Im running the villainROM 2.4.2 with ninphetamine kernal and XXKG6 installed.downloading the BLN app from the market you get that.

Has anyone noticed the red light that appears at the top of the phone next to the front camera and sensor? I've only really noticed it once the phone has been fully charged.
Perhaps this could be used to indicate a notification, assuming there isn't an app that already uses this light?
Lol, thats the Proximity sensor taking effect dude.

Well whatever it is, could it not be used as a notification indicator if it hasn't already been?

No sir, it can only be used in a call when you put your phone near your face/ear it helps to turn off the screen.
Regards.
Wait, so that really is an led light?! I've never seen it go off, it would be sweet to have a red notification led, just like my old Blackberry... BLN works okay for now, though is is NOWHERE as bright as the led on the blackberries.
I started using NoLED, coming from a Desire I was a bit disappointed. I like NoLED but I'm concerned about the impact it has on battery even though I have mine set to 1% brightness and I rather have the standard icons on screen rather than the custom icons to be honest.

Wooaaa.....
why such hassle?
i thought android suppose to be the smarted OS. :-(
back when i was using symbian, light signal plus, a simple app can make softhey LED lit up.
i was hoping theres a widget or app in android that can do the same thing.
rooting or flashing for such small function seems overkill. :-(

Android is the smartest OS but it isn't the simplest one. And as an user, not a dev, I don't like that too.
I also remember about Light Signal Plus when I had 5800XM.

[Q] LED always on instead of blinking

Hey Guys,
I want to have my LEDs to be always on when some notification come in.
The normal behaviour is blinking until you unlock the device and check the notification, but i want it stay on insteand of
blinking.
Light Manager quite does the job but i dont want an extra app for only enableing this. Is there a path to a file
where i can simply change the blink duration to 0 or something like this ?
Cheers

What ROM you on? If it's prior to 4.2.2 you could use JKay MOD?
Im currently on 4.1.2 Stock FW. and also rooted.
Never heard of JKAY Mod before and dont want to flash any other ROM cause of the features i use
in the stock FW.
But probably i will try out PA.
back to topic: is there any way for me to get the LEDs turned on the whole time instead of blinking ?

JKay is a framework, not a ROM. It basically just opens up a whole load of super-useful settings.. the dev describes it as Settings as Samsung should have made them.
Wouldn't know how to do it manually, sorry.
alright then.
i will try out JKay Mod and see if this will work.
can you explain me how to get the LEDs to behave the way i want with this mod ?

[Q] Notification/LED Lights

I am currently running CM10.2 and I was wondering if anyone knew how to make the notifications lights at the bottom of the phone blink and possibly blink in different colors? Right now they just stay on.

Go on the play store and download Devil Kernel Manager. From there, i think you go the misc menu and scroll to the bottom. You should be able to find the BLN Blink setting. and cm10.2 comes with a modified Devil Kernel but it should work. don't use Devil Kernel Config, as that only supports 4.0.x and 4.1.x builds.
DKM unfortunately doesn't retain settings after a reboot so you're gonna have to go back and turn on the BLN blink after every reboot if you want it.

I downloaded the app and tried with the back light notification on and off, and with CM 10.2 notification light enabled and disabled, still only got a solid light that didn't blink. I am on stock kernel, is there a particular kernel that is known to work with blinking?

Devil Kernel is, but there aren't any 4.3 builds of it. Except the ones that are included with cm10.2
by the way, it might just be the fact that the 4.3 kernels aren't optimized to work with BLN Blink yet. give the devs some time, and remember the one rule of cyanogenmod: never ask for ETAs.

LED notification

So i just got an i9300 and right after i got it I rooted it, changed the recovery to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719744 and flashed a custom rom based on 4.3 (cm10.2 + pa + aokp) but my led notification doesn't work... i mean it light up when i charge the battery, when it needs to be charged, when i get a call it lights up (until i answer the call then it turns off), but it doesn't notify me on missed events....
this is my configuration
I think there's a setting to enable led for notification in settings make sure you've it checked
sent from the state where marijuana is NOT illegal !
this is the only led settings i can find and i also used light manager and light flow nothing
in these settings (you are showing in your screenshot) give the apps you need specific led behaviours and also change their speed etc.
then press on the "test" button and switch your screen off (now the led should light up the way you managed it). From now on the led should work for these apps
this procedure works for me everytime when I update the cm 10.2 rom I am using (temasek's rom)
by the way which missed events do you mean? I've never tested the notification led on anything other then messaging apps like facebook, email, calendar etc.
I tried what you said for messaging and it didn't work...
I mean exactly those you mentioned...
