Can't disable voodoo - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im running darkys port w/voodoo. When i try to disable voodoo through red clockwork, linda says " converting data/system partion" then the phone just boots up. It does not actually convert anything, as ive check using "mount" in term.
Any help would be great

Try to flash another kernel with voodoo and try to disable it again. If you still have no luck, just odin back to stock.

May not help, but you could try Voodoo Toggle, it is an app in the market.

I did just flash another Voodoo compatible rom and kernel, won't disable. If I odin to get rid of it, I would have to use Eugene's " FROYO that does not brick". Which is a pain in the @ss. The Voodoo toggle no worky. Thanks for the ideas though.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

I remember Eugene saying something about this. Some sort of corruption going from stock to Voodoo or vice versa. I can't find it though.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

are you trying to disable through cwm or manually adding the voodoo_disable file?

^ Read the OP.
You don't have to use eugenes that doesn't brick... you can, but not sure why you think you are limited to just it? ODIN to stock, root, flash... or use the ALT METHOD in the noob guide.

The last time I had a Voodoo issue was w/ jac's kernel from like august. I tried straight jfd odin and no go I got can't mount dev/block error, But I'll try. I guess I should check repartion
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

Yes, you should.
So you've had issues with voodoo twice now? That's odd.

Yeah, the first time was when Voodoo first came out and I forgot to disable before flashing. This current issue, of it refusing to disable, is weird.

Just use basic jfd stock, check repartition, and make sure its an updated version of odin. Has always worked for me.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App

Try using Galaxy Tuner app and running all 3 Bad Block Checks to see if that's part of the problem, cuz even going back to stock via Odin won't fix bad blocks. Good luck!
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick I like to pretend is running Trigger 2.7.2 on OverStock 1.5...

Times like this in love xda. Thank you everyone for their suggestions. I finally just flashed from th overstock kernel to tiger blood and it successful disable by manually adding the "disable-lagfix". Apparently the problem is arising from disabling through cwm, atleast for me. Thanks again, and the galxay tuner is really nice.

Voodoo is a lag fix. It moves some stuff to your memory card to make your phone run faster.

No, it definitely hasn't moved my stuff to my memory card...
It converts the /data partition on your phone to EXT4, which is a far superior file system than RFS, which the phone would otherwise use. This increases your disc I/O speed and makes the phone run smoother.
So is it better then the lag fix that I have now which is the Ryan lag fix from the app that's on the market. The voodoo is on that app but I'm not sure if its a better one especially that its found in the settings under kernal. And I don't have any knowledge about changing rge kernal.

In order to use the Voodoo lagfix you must have a kernel that is compatible with Voodoo. Voodoo is something that you must read about and research before toying with it. I would suggest you go here and read about it. The OCLF app you are using gives you the option to update your kernel to a Voodoo compatible one and installs the Voodoo lagfix; it will also back up your current Kernel. Hope this helped a little. The only downside of Voodoo is that anytime you want to flash a new ROM or kernel or any flashable zip folder you pretty much need to disable it to prevent damage from occurring.

Lag Fix, PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Hey guys,
Im fairly noob
This is my issue
Bought samsung vibrant i9000m
Unlocked it
Rooted it
NOW i want to lag fix.
So, i update the firmware to froyo 2.2 using kies, everything went fine. Then i installed OCLF, but i always get an error saying that there is not enough space in /data to complete this fix
So, i now know that it is talking about the internal sd. Tried to erase as much as i could, but i could only get to around 815megs free, and according to other posts, i would need at least 1.5 gigs.
Erased everything i could ( apps, samsung default apps that come with 2.2 etc)
Still not enough space
SO.....
Tried to use voodoo
The install process says to simply download the file, put it in the internel sd card`s root and rename it 'update.zip' ( yes made sure it was not update.zip.zip) then reboot in recovery and select ' apply update.zip'.
So i did.
I ALWAYS get this ANNOYING error 'signature verification failed, installation aborted'
At this point i want to smash my phone on the ground...but i didn't, cuz i know someone can help
CONCLUSION: im on froyo 2.2, i want to lag fix with either OCLF OR VOODOO, witch ever can work. Please remember i am still a noob, so i cant really try to flash anything using odin yet...
Baseband: JL2.
PLEASE HELP ME FINALLY LAG FIX THIS PHONE!!!!
A way to get around the signature failing is to download rom manager and boot into recovery mode with clockwork mod. It has an option to not validate the signature and should let you finish.

i downloaded and installed rom manager, reboot using clockwork mod but it still says that it failed because of signature... what gives!!!

Download Astro file manager from the market then on your phone go to the link I've provided. Download the kernel and make sure it's on the root directory of your sd card using the file manager. Reboot into recovery and flash away.

Tanx. Man do I need to get da. Voodoo app from the market?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Using one of the kernels on the page I pointed you to will let you toggle the lag fix on or off using cwm recovery so you don't need one of the apps on the market. I will tell you that the easiest lag fix to use is the One Click Lag Fix available from the market. Using Voodoo and messing with the kernel of your phone can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. I've bricked my phone several times because of Voodoo.
I'm asking kuz. I tried the one click... and it says unavailable. Because I have another lag fix installd. But I don't... and da Rom I have is aura 2. 2
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm running Axura 2.2 as well. One Click doesn't work with it. Use the JL1 plus voodoo kernel on the page I pointed you to in the previous post. Make sure it's the Clockworkmod recovery .zip file and flash it just like you would a rom. When you boot into recovery it has options to enable or disable the lag fix. Just make sure before you flash a new ROM you disable it otherwise your phone will soft brick.
Also make sure you give it time after flashing. On your first reboot it will hang on the vibrant screen for about 10 min. while it re writes the file system. You'll hear a voice from your phone during this time that'll let you know what's happening.
Ok so way I do is download the voodoo from da link... den I go to Rom manager and flash it threw clockwork?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yup. Just like flashing a ROM. Remember to be patient on the first boot. If you interrupt the process in the middle you will brick your phone then we'll be having a whole different conversation
Lol ok ok.. let me just make sure.. I downloaded jl1 voodoo unsigned zip or sum like dat.. ima. Move it to the main rooting ting on my memory card... I open Rom manager... click install Rom from SD... den flash it?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yup. If you use Astro it will be in a file labeled download. Copy it into the same directory your Axura.zip file is in boot into recovery and flash it just like you did your ROM and then reboot.
Ok ima try it lol... ill b bak. In 20 if success lol

I just realized that mine doesn't either. These roms and kernels are rarely perfect. Small price to pay for the increased speed though.

It's because you selected the JL1 kernel. It has a know issue of no vibration/feedback. JK6 is wonderful, go with that one.
so kan i just flash it or do i gotta take the other one off first??? den flash it??

You can flash it right on top. A word of general warning, however. If you ever want to go back to something that is not a Voodoo kernel, you will need to disable the lagfix first. If you don't, expect serious issues.

From voodoo to stock via odin

If I'm running a rom or kernel with voodoo enabled and want to use odin to return to a stock rom for a fresh start does voodoo have to be disabled or does it not matter due to using odin?
Sent from xda app on vibrant running axura 2.3.1.2
No I don't think it matters since odin pretty much erases the custom rom and kernel and puts the stock rom and kernel onto the device so I am sure it will not make a difference im sure over done it a few times
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
I agree, I don't think it matters - I've soft bricked my phone with voodoo enabled and ODINd back to stock without problem.
Cool thanks for your replies I just wanted to make sure it was fine before attempting it and end up with a brick. I would feel lost without my vibrant untill I got another one.

getting into red recovery after installing wrong kernel

My sch-i500 was in sc2.9.1 with no voodoo, so I wanted to change the kernel to voodoo so I mistakenly installed voodoo kernel 5.5, which was for gt-i9000.
it looped the boot, so I turned it off and reinstalled sc2.9 by odin. I was able to boot, but I cannot get into red recovery even after applying cwm-recovery-ALL by odin; when I boot into recovery, blue recovery shows up and it says:
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkOp2
(No such file or directory)"
how can I get back to super clean 2.9.1 with voodoo lagfix?
Honestly the easiest way to make sure you are on a clean install would be to flash back to stock with the DL09 (i think) odin package.
Do a search its floating around somewhere. It will bring you to stock and make sure everything is clean.

I know how to do that way, and that is my last resort...
I just want to know if there's any way to fix the problem without going back to stock. I really hate to reset all my settings/apps/data...man I regret not backing up my phone.
You can flash other rom but it will show same error.
Just back up stuff using titanium backup. I've flashed my phone more than ten times and titanium really come handy.
You sure can search every site but you will eventually use my guide
Like I said, I had same exact problem.

Sadly stocking your fascinate may be the only way to go.
If you are able to navigate around in the stock recovery you might be able to find a way to launch red cwm through it or clear the caches and try reflashing with odin.
Good luck!

well, the links of those threads are broken (stops at downloading 1/3), so if you could upload the DI01package3.tar file and post a link, that would be helpful.

You could try one of the superclean odin files from this forum http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...roms-w-root-new-clockwork-updated-2-11-a.html it will flash orange cwm so you will have to flash back to red afterwards

[Q] How to clear system without root?

I don't know what's wrong.
I've gone into recovery, and used ADB to clear out a ton of stuff, but whenever I reboot, it says there's still not enough space to install busybox (so I can't root).
It may have been from a lagfix, because ever since I had to ODIN back from Eugene's Dead Horse Kernel, it's done that. Does anyone know what to do? I'm stuck on stock (it also soft-bricks whenever I flash a ROM) until I get this fixed.
can you install other apps?

It allows me to install other apps, but if I try to root, it doesn't root (won't install busybox and says there's no space), and when I try to flash a new ROM, it just soft bricks.
can you try one click root? if not try to install Eugene's froyo that doesn't brick. that might clean things on your phone.

Question, can I do this through ODIN (not at home so I can't really look), because flashing through CWM doesn't help.

Any ROM. Nothing will flash through CWM. I rmemeber seeing that when you flash something, it writes in system. It just doesnt do that anymore.
