need help returning to stock - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I used the easy root method and i want to unroot and return to stock. From my understanding when rooting you actually downgrade your software/radio version. I downloaded the file under the thread easy unroot, but how do i load it?

did u delete this file "install_recovery.sh" located in your /system/etc/before attempting to install Tenfar's CWM....if u didn't delete that file then that's ur error...delete that file and then reinstall CWM...and btw you would need rootexplorer to delete that file...make sure u turn on r/w button in rootexplorer.....
THAT WORKED!! THANK YOU! I deleted the wrong "install_recovery.sh" before. Using it to flash GB as we speak. Thanks again!

Correct. Revolutionary does NOT root your phone for you, however they do give you the flashable zip to root the phone.
You can find the zip here: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Look under the Common Problems & Questions section. A few lines down will be the link to download the zip.
thanks for the info if you can keep your ears on i may reply back with more question if it doesnt work

Not a problem. I'll check back soon. Should be straight forward and you shouldn't have any problems. Just put it on your sdcard and flash like any ROM
so i downloaded the file and tryed to load it but it says meta-inf and system and not else what should i do
Don't open the zip. Put the whole zip on the root of your sdcard, reboot into recovery and flash the zip.
ok ill try again but thats what i did if it doesnt work what else can i do to make it work
Hm... try redownloading it? Might be corrupt. Other than that I don't know, shouldn't have a problem with it. Thats the same zip I used to root my tbolt and I had no problems.
ok i just want to say thanks for all the info it worked

Which ICS did you download? The one from Rootzwiki or DAGr8's from here?

It's a Odin one-click file. I'm really not sure how you can mess this up. Just put your phone into download mode, connect it to USB, run the .exe file and click the button.
I'm not sure if you should really be flashing yet. You should read up more on flashing, bootloaders and odin before hand. It'll save you and everyone else lots of time, in case something goes wrong. Just saying.
Plus, the flashing procedures have been posted countless times. Just search and read.

[Q] Recovery and stock

I've seen mixed messages about this so I figured I'd ask to be safe. If I root my S4 and put TWRP recovery on it, I can flash a stock ROM in Odin and everything will be back to stock and official status for warranty, correct? Thanks.

This is completely off topic and I am very sorry for this I am just very desperate. But I mistakenly deleted a system file I shouldnt have without backing up and now the play store, youtube etc will not let me login. Can you make a backup of all the system files or even make a rom? Thanks. If you can it would be greatly appreciated. my email is [email protected].
Dark... you can do that but you would then have to lose root. My suggestion to you is you use the unroot method in superuser if your superuser has the option or get universal unroot from the play store. you would restore your backup of the stock rom and then remove all that you can like recovery and then use 1 of the methods i mentioned to break root.
The point being is you can go back to complete stock rom but if you are still rooted and they see then "no warranty for you!" (heh warranty nazi)

So, if I used Odin to flash the stock ROM, my status would still show "custom"?? I thought if you flashed stock, it unrooted and put it back to official?
Also, michaelgg13, if you can tell me which file you are missing, I can try to get it and send it to you if that will help?

Thats the thing I am not exactly sure which file it is. Im kind of stuck. it must be some sort of google service. Is there anyway to backup all of the stock files? I am new to android so I am trying to figure this out haha. Thank you for answering though.
no the su binaries will stay which gives superuser the write permissions to the root of the device such as /system
Flashing the rom back just puts all the files back as they were, plus you backed it up with the su binaries intact so it will still be there after the restore of stock rom

Ah, I see. Well, I've added a couple different things into my system files so I don't think you'll want all of that. However, if you have your files and contacts backed up, there was a thread somewhere either here or on another forum that had the stock ROM that you could flash with Odin. I could try and find that for you if you want it.

Ooh...I think you might have me mistaken. I'm asking if I flash a completely stock ROM with Odin. NOT a Nandroid backup or any other form of backup. Just a stock ROM with Odin. Would that reset everything back to official status?

Hey well thanks a bunch for trying!!!
EDIT: just tried the link again, it is actually taking me to the download page but the download doesnt work. so close i can almost taste it!
EDIT 2: after reading their facebook page they said they are having dns issues, so they should be back shortly!
ahhh maybe you will break root then. If i remember right from my Bionic if i FXZ'd with House of bionic it redoes EVERYTHING wipes the system.img.. just everything boot.img all of it.
I'm not exactly sure how that would work to be honest cause flashing the rom back may still leave those binaries in... this is something I'm not totally sure on but i still do not think it will break root.

Root Attempts Fail

Hey guys. I had my phone rooted a little bit ago, and then decided to unroot. Being the wishy washy person I am, I now want to root again. Only problem is, when I try and root again it fails in odin every time. All I can do is reboot. Please help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First things first, which Verizon release are you on VRUAMDK or VRUAME7? Also you need to provide more information. What fails? What step of the root process are you on?

VRUAME7 and when I try and root, it fails when it first tries to do the boot option.
Also I just realized that I have been trying to flash VRUAMD2. I think that may be the problem. If so, I need the correct file to flash. Sorry for being so dumb.
