Archos 101 won't turn on. How can I fix this. Won't charge. I used at work, when I went home it 30% power, connected to the charger. Came back to it 4 hours later and nothing. I sent it to Archos RMA for repair but they're trying to charge me 200 bucks to fix, no warranty because I bought it from a private seller off ebay. Archos says it needs a new power board. Could the charger just be not malfunctioning correct. Has this happen to anyone else? Can I possibly fix myself. Thanks in advance for all advice and help.

Okay, I know this is going to sound stupid... but a few days ago I had the same situation. I plugged it in at 40% and the next morning it was dead. I freaked out at first, but then realised I plugged it into the headphone Jack. And that drains the power out of it apparently. I hope you made the same mistake and your 101 is ok

plug it out, wait an hour, plug it in ,wait an hour and then hold power 15seconds....

No I didn't plug charger into headphone. But I'm going to try the method described in the earlier post once I receive my device back from archos rma. Thanks

did that, actually before i saw this reply. i saw that on the hpwebos warranty support site lol.
thanks for the reply, i have 2 more touchpads i need to put android on from xmas.
I am having the same issue :\
Mine was the same way. Threw it on the charger for an hour and it booted right up.

Try leaving on the charger for a few hours while off, should give it enough charge to boot up
Had this happen to me. I tried to charge it all night even and still no luck. Went to HP.com and did a live chat, after a quick troubleshoot he said they would fix it. They sent me an empty box to put the TP in, I dropped it off at ups, had it back in about a week. They called me up and asked me where I bought it from, odd because it was from hp.com, and told me it was a European version. Whatever. They sent me another one next day. Seems new.
I would try charging it overnight on the microUSB charger before starting it. It could be possible the battery drained too much. Have you also checked to make sure the charger is working. Perhaps try another USB device on it.
Problem I had was out of the box the charger didn't even show up on the screen. Tried a known working ccharger, same result. That's when I tried the menu power thing and all was working.
I tried looking and didn't find anything til about 2 minutes after posting lol.

My touchpad quit charging a couple days ago. The provided micro USB cable had given me fits since day one. Finally replaced it and all is well.

So my little sister's tablet the SGT 10.1 just pooped out apparently. About a month ago it stopped responding to USB Mass Storage/MTP when connected to computer and now it just won't charge/turn on. So I tested out the charger/usb on my samsung galaxy note 10.1 and seems that the charger is dead so I was like great, the charger's dead not the tablet. I plug in my galaxy note 10.1's charger and charge the tablet overnight and try to turn it on this morning and it still doesn't turn on (yes I held the power for at least 15,30,60 seconds and also tried to get into recovery or download mode). Is this tablet salvageable or am I going to have to pay a hefty fee to get it repaired? I am out of warranty because this was a refurbished product (never buying refurb again btw). I'm not sure whether the entire MOBO is dead, or the SSD, or the battery. Not sure where to start troubleshooting but am willing to take the time to repair it myself if I have some hopes of preserving her data which has countless pictures and videos. And I'm pretty sure there's no way to take the nand flash chip and transfer the data to the a computer...or is there? Any advice or comments are appreciated. Thank you.
Are you able to get into recovery mode?
Lol did you even read my post? No it doesn't turn on at all no download recovery nothing.

31 dollars to diagnose the problem, 86 to replace the battery, 200ish to replace the MOBO, and 63 to replace the power button. It could be any of these.
Sounds like you have a dead unit to me. I think you need to decide how much that data is worth to you.
Same Problem
Hi Users

connect to ac adapter, notoing, no icon for loading the battery
hold power button an vol down key, noting
But the led flash light on the back side makes a short flash every 15-20 sec
Help needed
Thanks for answers
IF you are up to it and you know what you are doing.. you could find a dis-assembly guide for the tablet..
Take the battery out and get it checked / charged separately from the unit.. Just make sure you're giving it 2 amps at the correct voltage..
Connect a DC supply at the correct voltage, and limited current, to the unit, and see if it powers on..
That will give you some answers at least as to where the problem lies.
All at your own risk of course..
Try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. I know this method sounds too easy but that happened to me. I bought my tab from eBay with a cracked digitizer and LCD, so I didn't know what exactly could be wrong with it. Before I got my replacement parts, it would power up but since it came with no USB/charger, the battery had almost no juice. Before I received the cable, it came to a point where the thing wasn't turning on at all... even with the little juice it supposedly had.. and yes, I was doing all of the button combos. So a few days pass by before I finally disconnect the only component I had yet to disassemble (battery) and I reconnect it and the tab turns on. :what:
I was amazed at why that was even the issue. So that's one thing you could try in your attempt at cornering the problem.

I disassembled it and reconnected battery. But tablet still won't boot. Will try to remove and charge separately and see what happens.

Edit: Does anyone know how to charge the battery externally? I've gotten as far as removing the battery but...not sure what to do now. I found some batteries on ebay so I am able to get a new one, but I want to check to see if this battery is bad or not. How can I do that?
I'm having the exact same issue with my device. It's the same device, and it wasn't refurbished either! I've tried everything I could, it won't turn on long enough for me to reset the device!
I have tried the customer care, but they just asked me to buy a new charger, but I think there's something wrong with the device..
Hi guys,
I have two hp touchpads here a while back one of them decided to take a nose dive and will not power on - i followed the steps of charging it via usb for 1 week, touchstone for 1 week and mains also for 1 week but nothing worked and it will not power back up.
I can connect it to the pc and hold down power + volume + home and it is detected as a palm device but then when I run webos doctor it does not pick it up.
Is there anything else to try to get this thing back up and running again it seems like the pc can still see it fine but webdoctor just refuses to pick it up - is there also any specific drivers that need to be installed for it to work with hpwebdoctor I believe from reading the drivers should be incorparated into the recovery program although not 100% sure on this.
Did you try to check if the USB cable itself is bad? I once had a problem with my touchpad getting power, but all data related things did not work. Figuring that it might be the USB cable, and most of my other old USB cables were going bad, I just bought like five USB cables from monoprice, got them, and then all was well.

Same issue as OP but in my case it's definitely not the cable. My TP began to act this way after Doctor failed and TP disconnected from PC.
The screen had HP logo with chip. I messed up and reset the TP now won't start up...
By nose dive, do you mean it fell? The battery might be disconnected inside...

Apologies nah it didnt drop its just a scottish phrase meaning it broke and wouldnt power on apologies again for that lol..
h8kor I have 2 touchpads and the cable is working fine on one but no the other - Im thinking its possibly time to open it and seeing whats in there or just keep it for spares for my working one
I'm also having the same issue.
One other thing was the night before it powered off I tried to charge it with the mains from about 4% in the morning it got to 15% then i unplugged it from mains charger and back in and the charging symbol appeared but it just drained itself showing the battery warning sign and powered off.
2 or so days later i left it charging on USB and it came back to the battery symbol but still wouldn't charge via mains and it discharged again and i think i missed the window here for getting it on the touchstone for a full charge but who knows.. would be nice to have it working so i could give it to my girlfriend but at least i still have one for myself

Mine wasn't a dead battery. Mine was soft reset during WebOs doctor session and only comes up as palm in Device Mgr...so I guess I'm screwed.
I kept it off the charger for about a week, I then plugged it back in and the home button started flashing. I left it overnight and when i came back it booted into CWM by itself.
I didn't charge my tablet, instead left it on standby.
This morning it wouldn't wake up.
The green LED was off.
I plugged in the charging lead and still the green LED remained off.
I couldn't switch the tablet back on again!
This is a brand new (replacement) tablet.
I left the charging lead plugged in for about 15 minutes and then the tablet suddenly came to life.
What could this mean? Anything I can do to avoid it happening again in future?
Sent from my ARCHOS 101G9
Probably it just ran out of battery. It might also be sleep of death(SOD), but i think the green led would have been lit in that case. If it is the battery, just don't let the tablet run out of it again.
If that happens and you are sure there was battery remaining, try doing a factory reset and reflashing rom. That should remove SODs incase of them.
Thing is, when the tablet booted I had 35% battery remaining.
I'm on the stock 4.0.7 ROM that came with the tablet.
As this is the 3rd tablet in a matter if three months I'm loathe to reset if I can help it.

Well, that seems to rule out the "out-of-battery" scenario. Resetting the data sounds like a option worth to try. It would be sad to send this one to warranty too.
What are you doing with your tablet, if this is the third one ? Are you hammering nails to walls with it:silly:?
Lol
First one had a faulty speaker, happened after about two months use. Second one the LCD cracked when I picked up the device. Previously smashed an 80G9 too when I was clumsy with it.
Anyway, hopefully this thing won't happen again...

I dont know what is the problem and this is happening at least twice a week :S

OK so heres the deal i recently did s-off successfully then flashed cyanogen mod 10.2 w/ android 4.3 running on crpalmers kernel and everything was working great i loved it had it running for a week or so then today i woke up was on my way to work noticed my battery life was low and that was odd cause it was plugged in all night....then only 3-4 hours later noticed i had 10 percent which was obviously really strange seeing as i was gettin 16+ hours before and hadn't even touched the phone today. So to save my battery to call my wife on my drive home i shut my phone off only to find later in the day i cant turn it back on....nothing....not even the tiniest flicker of an LED. Ive plugged it in to 2 different chargers usb on my PC and nothing!!!!! does ANYONE have ANY idea wtf happened I know phones brick and i accepted that risk but to work a week then just randomly brick itself??? is that common? PLEASE any help I don't wanna pay a deductible for a new one

yea tried that...held down power button alone...then power button and volume down...then power button volume up...then power button both up and down and nothing....
Try leaving it plugged in overnight and see what happens. The things you described shouldn't result in a brick if you followed the directions.
Ill give it a shot and see.how just leaving it plugged in works out...i have nothing to lose at this point.......yes i broke my lg revolution out of retirement lmao
