so i have a question about xrecovery...
on my sd card there is a file called data.img
do i need this?
As far as i know the backups are located in sd card>xrecovery>backup, but this file is in sd card>xrecovery...it is 512 mb so it is taking up a BIG chunk of my sd card
Im trying to find out if this file is supposed to be there or if it just got there somehow because it has nothing to do with my backups...anyone know?

did some searching and couldnt find an exact answer I was looking for about this.
Rooted my G1 back in the day and partitioned the sd card. have since upgraded to vibrant and im looking to root. will this partitioned sd card have any negative consequences to rooting my vibrant. how do i know which partition to place the .zip files in, or does that matter as long as i can find them in a file manager?
thanks in advance.
hope you not partitoning through clockwork cause u will brick internall memmory , unless u partitoning external sd u good to go i use program called paragon partiton manager for my ext2 ext4 fat32 rfs jfs needs iv partitoned my ex sd to ext4 so i ccan have dedicated partition for my apps insteadd of placing them on internall memmory. good luck.
never ever ever partiton your internal memmory unless u know what you are doin ,knock your self out regarding external sd and no it wont affect rooting process. (you can replace external sd ,u cant repllace internal sd and iv heard stories of people that ruined internall memmory by partitoning internal sd, hard brick bc of sd failing from partitoning)
ok, i think i understand. since i have just partitioned the external sd card i wont have any problems rooting. is that correct? not even sure how to access the internal memory yet. have to look into that. now if i want to load a custom rom on here. which part of the partition would i put the .zip file in.
wrong put the zip file on your INTERNAL SD not EXTERNAL ...clockwork dont mount exteranl sd in recovery so externnal sd doesent get even mounted in recovery meaning its usles.....zip files it belongs just on INTERNAL SD no folders just file by it self . simple .
Ok thanks youve beena great help.
thank you.it was great talking to You too .
Hey guys, I used ALberts method for rooting using the micro SD card and now im kinda sad. Im sad because I deleted everything off of my 32gb micro SD card and now it's only showing that it has 76MB on it. I reformatted and it still is only showing 76mb. Anyone know how I can have mah SD card back lol?

I had the same frustration and figured there was some magic I didn't understand re: image files. I "believe" that the image you select with the windows disk imager (Win32DiskImager.exe), which I believe is named cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img controls how much free space is left. In other words, that image is only around 70 MB or so, and when you transfer the image to the USB, that's all you get.
I was using a 2G SD, so no big loss, but when I went to place the .zip file for CM9, there wasn't enough free space available. What I did was copied the CM9 zip and gapps zip to yet another SD, booted up with the original 70 MB SD and then popped in the larger SD when asked to select the zip to flash in CWM. It worked.
Since then, I realized that all you have to do is format your larger SD as a bootable FAT32 drive, ie, set the boot and lda flags, then copy "all" the files that were in the original SD drive. After trying to puzzle it out for two days, I got it working tonight.
For me, I just formatted a 16 GB SD as bootable and then added all the zip files I'd need, and will use that SD in the future for CM9 and other upgrades.
As far as how to make a bootable drive, I use linux (and dual boot windows 7) and used the gparted program as recommended by indirect. It allows you to set the boot and lda flags which I guess is all you need to make the drive bootable. I have no idea how to get windows to do that without some other app. You can always create a gparted live CD and boot into it.
Good luck.
PS The files I found I needed on the SD to make it boot are
boot.img
flashing_boot.img
MLO
u-boot.bin
...as well as Gapps_and_root.zip and any other zips you want to load.
I'm not sure of MLO and u-boot.bin, but I put them in and it works.
PPS I also found that if you leave the USB connected to your computer, it will boot right into the SD. If not, you probably have to do the power and N buttons at the same time thing.
Recovering SD Capacity
I had the same problem, but then I read somewhere that if you just use the NT clear SDCARD / dismount while the MicroSD is still in the NT (of course), it will revert back to it's original capacity.
Worked for me...I can look through the menus and get step by step instructions if you can't follow the crappy way I described it above.
Lol, thanks for the advice guys! I'll try it, hopefully Im not screwed
I cant seem to get files from external sd card within some programs.Like psx4droid or FPse.When it comes to select bios,it shows me a file browser. There is one folder "sdcard" but its the internal sd card and i cant find the directory for the external sd card.
yeah,yeah,10 gb are a lot of but i want to use my sdcard too
Samsung have moved the location where it's mounted to and some apps which are hard coded can't find it.
If you can go up a directory from sdcard to mnt you will then find extSdCard containing your ROMs.
yeah,my bad.i found it!
thank you very much
I have HTC explorer with 4gb mini micro sd card. I installed CM10 with 1gb partition in it. CM10 and 1gb partition is installed about 5 month. But now 1gb partition is not working and also my sd card cant format and copy any files in it. Its like write protected. I can see my files in sd and i can use them but i can delete any file.
I use MINI PARTITION 7 to delete partition but it is not working.
I used sd formator4 too. but not working.
Is any way to solve this issue in my sd.
I recently downloaded a big file by Utorrent android version on my phone, I have 64GB sd card in phone, the file size was 17GB! 17GB downloaded on sd card!!!! But after I downloaded it I couldn't download or delete any file to or from the sd card, I tried to format the sd card in every way I know, and tried to search for errors by windows , and cmd command to remove read only, but I couldn't fix the "read only problem".
Please if you have any suggestion let me hear it.
Up
Please anyone?
your question are not clear do you mean that your sd is RO not RW?
My SD card now is read only, I could not download or delete any file.
