fascinate vs vibrant rooting - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My buddy saw my SC 2.9.2 voodoo Steel blue fascinate last night and is dying to root/theme his. Is there much difference in rooting his vibrant from my fascinate? I looked through the vibrant section and it seems like its very similar, but wanted someone that may have done both let me know what they think. Anything to watch out for?
I have been flashing every SC rom since 2.3 and went to voodoo, but since its not my phone, just want to make sure.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Find superoneclick (just use the search box). That'll root it instantly for you.

Yup super one click and make sure your theme is compatible with the Vibrant/ and rom

Correct, but the bible hasn't been updated in a month.
Nor has the wiki which can be found HERE.
To be honest, I've only found minimal difference in the performance of the most recent 2.2 ROMs. They're all fairly good.
Before you jump in to deep, please do some research. You will save yourself alot of headaches. The stickies are a great place to start.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
ROMS
This is some kind of basic orientation:
First, nobody can really tell you which rom will work better for you.
Vibrant problem is that, there are many variations on the hardware, some have a bigger nand, some can be overclocked some cannot. Some get problems with vodoo.
You just have to be ready to experiment, and most importantly not to panic if something goes wrong.
First step. Get familiar with ODIN, learn how to use it and most important, learn how to get your phone in Download Mode.
Step two. Be sure you have the original shipping rom (pit and tar files) at least to odin back to shipping stock. This can save your life if OC is not supported by your phone, if you forget to disable vodoo or lagfix before flashing another rom, and so on)
Step three. If you install any kind of lagfix, including Voodo, be sure to disable it, before flashing anything else. (If you forget you vcan always fix it, going back to stock and repartition it, i can't recall anybody actually bricking a Vibrant just for doing that)
Decide if you want stock or a modified rom. Read, read a lot, to see adventages and disadventages of each.
Decide if you want 2.1 or you are ready to go for froyo
And remember, I can't recall anybody bricking the phone, but be careful you can always be the first, and is only your responsability not anybody else, if you brick your phone.
ohh hand don't forget to HAVE FUN!!!!
My suggestions...

Take a look at my recent video reviews of some of the latest popular ROMs. There are instructions in the description box of the videos to get you started =]
I embedded one of my videos below. This one showcases Axura 2.2.5.7. A great looking ROM that is fast, stable, and again, very good looking. If you check out my channel I have other videos of other ROMs. A video of Nero v3 by Team Whiskey will be up in an hour.

Nero v3 by team whiskey or sombionix...it simply rocks rather flies......frrrrrrrr

I strongly recommend AXURA. I'm currently on 2.2.5.7. Very stable and fast, unlike Nero v3 in my experience. I'm actually surprised at how stable it is!
I was using CyanogenMod 6.1 before Axura, which is a complete AOSP Android build (without any Samsung crap) with many improvements. I've been using CyanogenMod since I had my G1 before the Vibrant, and I really wanted to use it on my new phone, but unfortunately it's still buggy. Even with sombionix's SD mount fix, the external SD cannot be mounted. Video playback doesn't seem to be GPU accelerated like it normally is. Mounting USB usually tends to consume lots of memory on the phone (maybe a memory leak?) while I work with large files, and it just stops the connection.
I didn't want to use a Samsung-based ROM, but Axura is the best right now IMO.
Axura ROM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891657
I would stay away from anything tagged team whiskey. Axura, imo, is the most stable of the vibrant mods. Try them all and decide for yourself but get comfortable with Odin and imaging back to stock. Especially if you test out TW mods.

I've used axura and nero, but I am currently using pepperkake, and it is by far the best of both worlds. Fast, stable, and the battery life is awesome! I highly recommend it, everything just works! (v2)

Whats up with the TW hate?
I have been using tw roms for months nw and the only times I have had isues is when I don't ODIN back to stock. Why do you guys dislike so much?

Why? I got NeroV3 and love it. Got the leaked Froyo from Team Whiskey in NeroV1Beta3 and then upgraded to Nerov3 using JUST my phone. You have to give them a few points for making it so dam easy. As far as stable, been running it through the ringers for days now with no problems whatsoever. You enable the Voodoo on NeroV3 and it will scream. I got the Touchwiz version, you should give it a shot OPer

Nero V3 w/ Launcher Pro is more of the way to go lol.. Voodoo enabled of course. Super fast, I'd put Axura in there but, Axura is slightly more buggy and has this problem with the white or gray font color in the notification bar with music players, where the font blends in with the gray theme.. Nero is sleek and clean and bugless IMO.

Axura 2.2.5.7 smoothest and fastest i've tested with voodoo enabled ..... Pepperkake is also pretty smooth and fast. These are the two i like most for their speed and stability.

Are you sure you don't have the I9000?
If you want stablity.....go get Nero V5...its based from the new KA5 Froyo leak.....and Team Whiskey's ROM's are always tweaked to be lightning fast with the VooDoo lagfix...heres the thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907347
stablity? thats just a wrong question.
ALMOST, if not all froyo roms are stable.
some recommended roms which are the most popular, and made by the most popular devs.
1- Axura, by Master(the guy who replied up there)
2- Nero, by TeamWhiskey
3-Ginger Clone, by Eugene
all of them are stable, and not ordered in any specific reason.
Well since I just got the xda app going. It says I have a sgh t959 pretty sure thats a vibrant. Unless the box I got it in is lying to me. Thanks for the suggestions guys Ill look into them.

I would suggest reading up on voodoo and learning all the precautions needed to be taken when flashing a rom included with it, and also keep this link handy:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Will come in handy if you mess up
Nero W/Voodoo. Highly recommended!
Most rooms with lagfix, will have problems doe to lack of journaling. You will start loosing files, one icon, etc and you will have to be reinstalling ofrever (start checking the lost.dir in SD Card, and you will find how the files start to pop up there.....
I personally use the stock updates (jk6 now) and is running great no lagfixes necessary. I do run a alternate launcher, and there are a lot of flavors around, although Zeam is my favorite.... Higly customizable, free, light and fast.........
Nero 5 cured my GPS! Honestly.
and fast too with voodoo
Very simple. Just go to settings-> about phone

I also have an unlocked and rooted T-Mobile Vibrant up here in Canada and am having a hell of a time getting the GPS to work. I also have trouble with phone reception. I have read everything I could find and even managed, when I was visiting the US, to get a guy at T-Mobile to put a sim card in my phone so I could download the samsung gps restore app that's not available in Canadian market. Tried Lbs test mode, GPS test and all sorts of variations on those solutions to no avail. My phone is hardware locked.
At this point, I am seeking advice.
1. Should I attempt to remove the hardware lock first in case anything I do bricks my phone?
2. Will flashing to the J16 modem solve the GPS (and phone reception) problem? (I am currently on 2.1)
3. Should I just flash one of the 2.2 ROMS?
Any guidance would be appreciated as this is the first android phone I have tried to hack.
EDIT: I gave up out of frustration with poor phone performance and flashed Nero ROM from Team Whiskey. AWESOME! GPS works! Phone reception - more bars, less drops! Bluetooth works better! Where's the donate button? Take my money! Take it! Oh yeah, I don't have any... but I leave you what I can! Great stuff.

[Q] Tired Stock Vibrant

Look, Im tired of this stock Vibrant. With the t mobile froyo update it has made me want to customize even more. I have rooted the phone but that is it. What do I need to do to get the Latest and Greatest, Fastest Rom onto my phone. I am new to this so is it hard to do? I am pretty savvy when it comes to computers so i think I can handle it. Let me know. Rom/lag-fix/Reliable/not disappointed Thanks!
NC here too.
Read my guides if needed. I would flash bionix-v or axura's latest.their both very stable/fast.
Beings that I have updated to "official" froyo through keis, is the process the same as in you walk through because that was referring to eclair. Thanks Also Axura looks sick! Which rom do you prefer?

[Q] GF Just got Fascinate, What to do with it?

I'm an owner of an Xperia X10, rooting and changing firmware was pretty simple, nothing but roms, were still in our kernel phase. Rooted my boss's Captivate, and his friends Galaxy S2 from Tmobile. But I hear for the fascinate not to use there methods, because the fascinate runs differantly?
Ive been looking up, and searching, probably keying words wrong, so i do apologize if i didnt search well enought, but my girlfriend just got this phone, and it is on 2.2 Verizon. From what i've read all the root/firmware flashing is for 2.1, and 2.2 isn't rootable yet? Is this true? if not, wheredo I go about for Odin, CWM, and whats the most stable suggestable rom I can throw on her phone?
First of all, I like to suggest you that your gf needs to learn how to do it by herself. I doubt you are gonna be next to her everytime when problems occur.
You can root by SuperOneClick 1.9.1 then flash CWM by times infinity. When you are done, flash
Rom/Kernel of your choice.
If you want TW Rom, there is Com Rom. Ppl say EF is better, and it should be due to it JUST removed bloats n deodexed. I personally use ComRom.
For TW kernel, there are Imnut's PBJ kernel(undervolted) which I use.
And there is OTB kernel, which allow you to do w/e voltage settings. (OverClock/UnderVolt)
Also there are AOSP roms, but I wouldn't recommend it due to NOT all of apps/systems are functioning

@xHoLyx, TY. aprreciated. I know how annoying it is for these post, its always wierd going to the phone forum i'm not usually on. She's actually next to me learning how I do this, she finds it interesting because I do this almost everday to my phone. I think ill try comm out. she doesnt want to lose the camera, and likes the stock android look compared to tw. TY
one more question. Will ED03 have a problem with a ED01 Rom?

There were microscopic changes were made between ED01 n ED03. Don't even mind it, but if you are going to update, why not update to latest?
