a little confused - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i upgraded to froyo but now have decided to put gingerbread on my vibrant? is it compatible ?? and in the sticky for noobs that i followed before am i doing the same thing over again...like rooting again ? then now its froyo not eclair so do i have to go back to eclair and flash it all over or can i just flash it through froyo to gingerbread. please let me know asap
thanks for the help and support

From reading this, i think your at a beginner level, and i suggest you stay away from Gingerbread roms because they have a different method of flashing than normal... and if you do something wrong, you CAN hard-brick and maybe lose your IEMI unique #.
If you still want to do it..
Try CM7 a GB rom...
FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS READ THROUGH IT THEN DO IT.

bro i upgraded to froyo so the phone could be better but now the batter life is dieing quicker then eclair but the phone is nicer and smoother compared to eclair. i only wanted to flash it to gingerbread cause of batter life and more smoothness of the phone. but here is another issue. in eclair if i send a sms and it didnt go through i could resend it. in froyo i dont have that option. is that option available in Gingerbread?

I would suggest trying out some of the other ROMs that are built on froyo. gingerbread is not 100% stable yet and if all you're looking for is better battery life than I suggest bionix or trigger those two have given me great battery life and I've used them both exstensively.

don't flash any that say gingerbread.
your not ready.
and frankly, the roms aren't ready either lol

what is odin?

a program for your computer that will help you if you soft-brick and help you get back to eclair.
Read the stickies before flashing anything dude.

Wise words.
Do as he says, lest you regret it later.

just read the development forum and look at the different roms.

+1 Yes read the Noob guide, and read alot more get familiar with how the works and why, you need to go slow and make sure you understand what you are doing and you are doing it in the right order.
Also, go to You tube and search Rooting, and flashing roms on the Vibrant. Then you will see it as well as read it. But, Follow XRider's advice.
Good luck

Best rom for the vibrant? easy install?

did i miss something here? can you re elaborate?`
next time pls post in the right section, thing belongs to Q&A section.
now on topic.. this has been asked so many times and to be honest you will not get a straight answer because it all comes down to preference. some roms are built for speed & power while some are build for long battery life.
so my advise to you is read through the comments of the roms posted try as many as you can til you find what is best to meet your needs. and when you get more experience flashing, you might want to try to mix and match ROMs, Kernels, and Modems to get exactly what your looking for.
peace~
I would have to say Axura 2.2 is by far the best that I have tried, very smooth and fast. At this point I have had no issues!!!
Sry I'm new to posting, I read only most the time.

what in froyo b.s. is going on here?
if you are looking for a fast rom to get straight to the point then download a stock rom and flash with odin but if the quest. is about fast rom then you have some choices. I personally feel that nero is speedy without a lag fix but so is axura. have fun testing. not enough new stuff for me to flash binge this weekend. lol
I like ginger clone
stock JL4!!! Everything just... works
ginger clone works really good for me. I dont even feel a lag fix is necessary for this one

I'm currently running the Ginger Clone. It's an easy install (assuming you're familiar with Clockwork). All you do is put the zip file on your internal sd card, boot to recovery, and install the zip. Easy as can be.
However, if you've never flashed a rom before, boot up Odin and get familiar with it. Some people make Odin seem like it's this programmer-only type of toy, but it's super easy and user-friendly as well. You just need to follow directions on what file to put where (.pit files go in the PIT slot and .tar files go under the PDA area). Odin is sort of a "holy ****, I can't do anything with this phone anymore" option. It will get you back to BONE stock, how your phone shipped.
I've been thinking about writing a guide to flashing and recovery if anyone thinks that would help? I'm kind of a novice myself, but I've familiarized myself enough with flashing and Odin that I think I could write a guide if there was a demand for it.
Man this is why new folks get discouraged with posting. Aside from the fact that a new guy posted in the wrong section (easy mistake) telling him to load a ROM not intended for his phone potentially bricking it is jacked up. Why would anyone do that? Even if you were successful loading it to your phone.

he best ROM will be one that will adapt to user needs.
So, just testing to see many different ROMs.
This type of thread does not help and may cause flames.
Although the idea is not bad, it is best you find out more about each ROM and draw your own conclusion!
Understands and expects to continue working with the XDA.

Dude, you MUST read all the info in the below thread at least else you may end up messing your phone or even worse - bricking it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
Also, AFTER you've gone through all procedures, I would recommend you to try nessy rom with franco's v15 kernel.

[Q] Root Samsung Fascinate

I am new to the forum and I am looking for the easiest way to root my fascinate sch-i500 phone. It has Froyo 2.2.1 currently. Any help is appreciated.
No worries. Use Z4 root, its a one click method which will do what you want rather easily. I posted a link below to a thread which includes the apk file and instructions on how to use it.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
If you just want to root, find a one click root app. If you want to flash roms :
One tip: Read the stickies in the Development section. Your better off knowing what your doing instead of blindly following our advice. Sorry if this comes as a bit of a downer, but its for your own good.

^ Yup, he's right...The z4 root apk I posted does work 99.9% of the time without a hitch but sometimes things don't always go as planned and you may end up having to Odin because of it. Like TheSonicEmerald recommended read though the stickies and see what it will take to get your samsung fascinate back up and running again if something were to go wrong. It will save you a lot of time when it does happen, and believe me, if your going to be flashing roms and such things WILL go wrong. This isn't to scare you or anything, it is to assure you if anything goes wrong the forum is here to help. I've learned this one word of advice over my time here and thats, "YOU CAN NEVER BRICK AN ANDROID PHONE."I hope this helped you out a little. Happy modding.
I'm not new to rooting at all, I have rooted several devices. A friend of mine just got a Fascinate and all the info I'm finding seems old and depricated. Will this z4root still work? Is it simple enough for a newb to do? She really just wants root for the wifi tether for root users.
I couldn't agree more. I read a ton of stickies and it paid off big time

Just remember, if you can post an ignorant comment than you can post some help for the guy.
Currently running Jt's VGB7, Glitch V12 beta kernel overclocked at 1500mhz stable.
.....You can teach them to fish, or feed them every time they get hungry.
It gets very old seeing the same questions asked over and over and over...

Wasnt trying to make the op feel stupid... but if the op was able to find the powerwash rom and install the pbj voodoo kernal, then he should of been more than capable of finding the guide for installing vgb dont ya think? Heck the vgb guide was on the first page in the dev section, right next to the powerwashed ed05 rom and pbj kernal.
Good Day

This is correct and much like your case, perhaps he was having a problem installing and thought he was doing something wrong, so he asked.
Sorry Droid if i put you on the spot, I meant no disrespect.
You are a tremendous help on these boards to alot of people!
I am just on my own personal crusade to turn XDA around and make it more NooB friendly.

LOL i do agree with this mostly though!
FYI sam.assad, froyo and Ginger Bread (aka GB)
are versions of the android OS Froyo is 2.2.x and GB is 2.3.x
hehehe , wow im talking about how they build these roms . 2.2.x & 2.3.x mean nothing but the version of OS ..if u read my Q u will notice that i have the ability to install rom and root .when jumped from 2.1 to 2.2 etc we didnt have to change anything on main sys but now with GB we have to repartion the hd and install GB Bootloaders ,SDK which is we didnt have to do all that with Froyo
Smile
any way thanks for all of u ..I already installed Vanilla Gingerbread v7 run it couple days i like it , but it missing what im looking for so swich to CM7 35 , i like it so far ..

I have rooted my SGS2. What to do next?

Hi all,
I have rooted my device according to the following method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653
My phone specs are as follows: Stock Rom.
PDA:KJ2/ PHONE:KI4/ CSC:KJ1 (XSG)
Now that I have rooted my device, I would like some help what to do next for optimum performance and to remove the bloatware? I am very new to android world. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
trawl the rom threads see what you like the look of, im not saying this just becausei use it, but take a look at the litenin rom thread in my sig, thats simple to flash and plenty of instructions, i have found most roms are are based on nothing much being changed unless you go for miui or a cm7 rom,
if you wanna remove bloatware i personally set my phone up n use system app remover, everyone has there own personal choice for roms so its basically take a look at the thread if u like the look of it give it a shot,
there is plenty of help and advice in the stickys and the rom threads if you get stuck.

Thanks a lot Demon_man for the reply. I have noted few things in lightening ROM which need clarification.
1) It is based on 2.3.4 while mine is 2.3.5...should I go back?
2) It doesn't support Right to left languages..They say to install older versions.
3) what is the battery life with lightening ROM?
I shall be thankful for further help.
sorry thought i had updated my sig litnin is now un supported as far as im aware the dev left but this thread has taken over the litnin rom,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334124
RtoL languages i wouldnt no sorry not without asking or going through the whole details.

and the link i just gave like i said is the litning rom updated
