I currently have a HTC Magic but I am getting annoyed with the lack of decent stable roms for it so I have been shopping around and for my budget I have a choice of either an X10 mini or the new X8 but wanted to find out which would be better as I understand the X8 is like the X10 mini but with a bigger screen and a lower camera
Dony buy either of the phones as they are dum.
I was a xperia x1 user and my x1 stopped working as it had gone in water.
I bought a x8 and my friend also had saved moey to buy a x10 mini pro.
But let me tell you that its nor worth thr money you are spending and the X1 had 13 buttons on the front bottom the xperia just had 3 buttons on the front bottom.
There isnt any direct call button, you will have to go back from the menu to make a call.

With a alternate Homelauncher (f.ex. ADW) you can bind the middle key with the dialer if you are already at the homescreen.
...and for the X8 and X10 use the sony-ericsson.com comparison tool and try to look at the phones at a market.

Sorry to sound dumb but isn't the X1 a WM device? the 2 I asked about are both Android devices I only ask about these 2 devices as I hate WM and Apple iOS. My other oprion is to strech my budget for a HTC Wildfire (all of these handsets would be pay as you go)

I have looked at the comparison charts but I am more interested in 'real life' comparison rather then a spec for spec comparison

i had also a x1 wm phone, and now i have x10 mini pro and had x10, x10 mini and htc wildfire....
If you will have a small phone get the mini, i only have the pro becouse i use the qwerty keyboard much.... the mini/pro is a great phone, but the wildfire has a ugly screen, then you use a picture as wallpaper is looks ugly.....
so if i was you i will look at x10 mini or x8....
my 2 cents

Cheers for that I am not much of a qwerty keypad user I prefer the old T9 style predictive keypad as I don't text often and I can text a lot quicker with a keypad rather then a qwerty. I know what you mean about wallpapers on the wildfire as I had previously had a Tattoo with a similer size screen
My thought
Personally I like more X8. I've got X10 mini pro two months ago. I like it, It is nice device but small resolution restrict from getting all those great apps so it is not ideal. I also thought I will use HW keyboard a lot but most of time I'm just lazy to do it. On screen keyboard could be good enough for me. Camera with autofocus is nice but I have problem with fingerprints on lens everytime I check lens out. Such small phone is hard to avoid touching the lens. And also AF is not working perfectly. I experienced decently blured pictures from time to time (just bad focus, not shutter problem). So, with X8 you can save some money and still get slightly more usable device thus better resolution. Personally I'm thinking about switch to X8 from my X10 mini.

the x10 mini has a good t9 keyboard, but the x8 comes with a on-screen qwerty keyboard like the x10 and not as the mini's keyboard
disreguard adils3d's juvenile comments lol...
Anyway i have a mini pro, and its a gr8 little phone but i bought it specificly because i wanted a small smartphone and a taste of android with T9 style onsceen keypad for sms...using the slider more for emails etc.
The X8 Depends if a bigger screen is more important to you and your not bothered about the lesser camera fucntions and like an onscreen qwerty apart from that i dont think there is any difference apart from price.
In the uk o2 are selling the X8 for £130!!!!
unfortunatly when I went to get the x10 mini today from CEX it had been sold so in the end I ended up getting a HTC Hero instead as they didn't have anymore x10 mini's within my price range. The X10 mini was going for £130 unlocked/sim-free but as it was sold I got a HTC Hero for £120 + £15 to get it unlocked

As a X10 Mini owner, I'd say it depends a lot on its usage.
I got the X10 Mini because I already owned an Omnia HD with great camera and multimedia capabilities and I needed a second device to handle another operator.
The X10 Mini is just that, a great secondary device with great software capabilities because of Android and spectacular performance. It does hold the title of world's smallest smartphone.
However.. the small screen and resolution limits too much the android experience, making some tasks like web browsing a bit painful, not to mention software incompatibility.
For a better smartphone experience, the X8 will be a lot better.
However... for a good android smartphone experience, I'd choose none.
Given Sony Ericsson's back story with firmware updates, I wouldn't get an android from them at all..
Android apps are too much version-dependent, and SE is still late to bring an update to Éclair when every other manufacturer has moved to Froyo.
They even ridiculed themselves to the point of launching a phone with a 2 generations old firmware, the X8.
That's like launching a laptop with Windows XP right now.
And no one knows when the updates are coming.. The X10 was launched a year ago there's still no update..
All we know is that they've NEVER updated any android from them, ever.
And looking at their background SE's background with their Symbian smartphones (laughable, to say the least), I wouldn't count too much on their support.

That is another reason why I was glad they had sold the X10 mini and went for my HTC Hero which already had 2.1-update1 on it and the unlock for the HTC was actually £5.99 via a reputable ebay member express-codes so £120 for HTC Hero w/ 2.1-update1 + £5.99 unlock made for a much better choice instead of £130 for a X10 mini
I have both of them.
And if the camera was the same in the x8 as in the x10 mini pro, I think the x8 was the winner.
It works faster, batterylife is longer, the screens bigger size make a real diffrence.
I use the x10 pro as everyday use and the x8's just for fun, I simply love the x8 with the exeption of the camera.
And about updates, who cares really?
If there dosent come a official realese, im sure there will come one here.
Not something there is giving me a headic

hi...
i bought this cool lookin xperia x10i for INR 30,000(indian rupee).thats really a premium price
But since x10i has 3g ,it was very weird for not findin anythin called "video call" on the fone
can we make video calls on xperia>>>???
also there was no market app in my phone!!
nw i am feelin like pissed off, since payin such a hefty price n not havin features that u want and also since samsung lauched their galaxy with features not found in xperia, such as
good battery life(wher xperia fails miserably)
amoled screen
for 29,000!!!
wheres my multi touch!!
wheres my 16M screen??
whers my value for money!!
The X10 does not have the proper drivers implemented to support 16M colors or Multi-Touch. Also, unless you're going to implement a second video camera into the front of your phone, you're not going to be able to make video calls either.
Good news is that Q1 2011 you will get Multi-Touch through an over-the-air update due to be released by SE (or so they say).
you can use Fring for video call and keep a mirror behind the phone for others to see you
XD did you read anywhere that the X10 have 16m Colors and MT before you buyed it? The X10 Hardware support 16m Colors and MT but nobody said it is enabled but MT will be enabled in Q1 like said and maybe 16m Colors too they just disabled it for better Battery life. How can you say the X10 Battery Life is poor i charged my Phone last time 3 Days ago and still have 35-40% Battery. The Market App has something to do with Google becouse Market wasnt enabled or not fully in India they enabled it 3-4 Weeks ago i think, so maybe you need to do an Update or something. Do you have Android 2.1 on your X10? If it doesnt work with the Market i can upload you my Market.apk.
sorry man, but as a consumer you should definately check out the specs before you throw your hard-earned money away

I've been thinking of trading my HTC Tattoo for a Xperia X10 mini (maybe pro) what do you guys have to say?
I'd like to know what are tha main advantages/disadvantages of the mini if possible
Thanks in advance,
K.
hello,
it depends from your expectations...
why do you want exchange HTC Tattoo?
do you have any problems with it? because your phone has almost similar parameters, x10 mini has slightly better HW specifications, specially 5Mpx photo camera with autofocus and led flash is very good, better processor, but smaller battery capacity, in real life battery holds 2 days max. My record is 3 days but it was on business trip and I didn't used mobile data because of rooming, on other side I used GPS navigation and photo camera lot so it was a very good performance.

Thanks for your reply : )
Well my major factor for choosing one is that it's one of the phones I can afford on a contract (selling my Tattoo would get me the cash needed for it) and the fact that I can have Android 2.x with working camera and fm radio (if the x10 does have one xD)
I like my Tattoo (because of its size mainly) and the mini boasts of being the smallest Android so it doesn't seem like a bad change.
My main problem with my Tattoo is that HTC dropped us at Android 1.6 without caring because of the release of the Wildfire, and because of that xda devs never were able to get their hands on camera/radio 2.x drivers therefore one has to choose between camera (crappy) and radio or 2.x apps support. Really ungrateful position to be in.

in this case, x10 mini is good for you
Go for the Mini mate
The Mini is the best phone I've had so far and believe me I've had a LOT... you wont regret buying it (it won an award for being the best phone for 2010 and 2011 which you probably know) its on android 2.1, it runs games fast @ 43FPS! for example runs Angry birds great but on the Hero which I had it lagged (23FPS on the Hero) and PSX4droid runs pretty great too =]
I have Apps2SD enabled, installed about 70+ apps/games (most of the big games work perfectly e.g. Pocket Legends, Fifa 10, Fruit Ninja etc) whereas normally without Apps2SD you wouldn't be able to get more than 4-5 big games on it.. so yeah
Do the wise thing and get the damn thing!!
PS. The disadvantage is that it has no Multi-touch but afaik that may change soon
I can also vouch for the x10 mini pro, and I too came from having a tattoo. The x10 is as good as technically and id argue better than the tattoo and I can tell you I wouldnt be writing this on my tatoo but I am happily on my mini pro

Hi, i read Sony Ericsson Xperia X10´s display is limited at 65k colours by Android 1.6. They told, X10´s LCD supports 16M colours. Is there any kernel, or software to fix it? Thanks a lot for any answer
Not at this moment
Why would you still be on 1.6? Official 2.1 is available for everyone and we have custom 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs. Dev's are working on custom kernal to achieve 16m colors but its still in development.

Thanks for answer. I don´t have X10i yet, but i will buy it for few days - in specifications it was strange this equipped phone had only 65k, if you could send a link of developing that kernel, it would be good.

Its better you buy an Arc,it is far better than X10 concerning Display, screen size and the camera.
It´s too much expensive, X10i is almost half the price and it´s almost the same.
Please, write here your experience with display quality, rating x/10...
It will help me with deciding, thanks.

X10i is my first ever android phone. The touch response is slow, the dual touch is dumb and unstable, and the dreaded 30fps cap. but besides that everything is great... the 8.1 MP camera is great but no flash. Display quality is good. 854 x 480 res. hdpi ftw. Gets really laggy on stock ROM over time (too many useless apps) . The hardware on this phone is totally limited by the software. Im hoping the GB update is going to boost this baby up a notch since I just had this for like 2 months. I wont be getting an arc or play in 2 years. lol

Tbh the phone isn't as bad as some reviews make it out to be. I find it is good for me although it can get slow over time, especially on the stock firmware, it really f's up the phone. But once you find which custom rom works best for you, the phone improves a lot as the hardware is good I am very happy with the phone

Yes Custom roms are like the steroids for the X10, but let us not forget the warranty. since he was gonna buy a new one. Rooting does void the warranty. I voided mine 2 weeks after purchase. Ever since then, been flashing roms back and forth like crazy. lol
After voiding you could just flash back to your origimal firmware

I have doubt in getting satisfaction with recent releases sony device, compared to my x10i.
Also, the reason behind this change over is due to heating and restarting issue for past few days.
Even, After back to stock rom and relocking the bootloader perfect baseband flashes. Nothing helps me to ride out of this issue.
Hopefully, i concluded that it should be a hardware issue.
So, i need to miss my x10i badly :'(
If you can please suggest me for good change over.

Still using my XPERIA X10i with 64GB Class10 SanDisk(3months use), overclocked CPU with root access and 1800mAh Mugen power battery.(1 - 5days battery life)
It's now become a music/media phone with Neutron Music/XiiaLive/Video players and a mobile file server.
Syllable G18 Bluetooth headphones keep the phone sounding sweet.
Thinking how good my XPERIA X10i still is, I thought, gee, the XPERIA L must be heaps better....
Hmm... that may lose some of the sparkle when one looks a bit closer..
XPERIA L appears to only support Class 6 MicroSD cards and maybe nothing over 32GB.
USB-OTG doesn't seem to be supported from what I read.
Sony is indicating the XPERIA SP needs to be referred to service support if touch screen issues are noted, so indicates HW issuse and not something a SW patch can fix.
Have an XPERIA S and that's in a world of pain after JB upgrade, where XDA Developers will probably be left to pick up the pieces if Sony doesn't address the many voices of dismay.
Third JB update mooted for early July, so it may not all end in tears.
Sony is not at it's best at the moment with firmware updates, but I'm sure they'll want to prove us doubters wrong. :fingers-crossed:
Given the above, I may enjoy my XPERIA X10i for a while longer before it is retired.
Still have 20GB of my SDcard left to fill....

You may be onto something there.
I can purchase an XPERIA LT25i for approx USD350.00 which is less than what I'd paid for an XPERIA LT26i
The XPERIA V has all the 'modern' features and an S4 Snapdragon chipset with an Adreno 225
The XPERIA V also has a good chance of getting Android 4.3 as the Adreno 225 supports OpenGL ES 3.0
Pity I already have an XPERIA S. [mumbling something about JB 4.1.2]
I saw a post were some dude in Asia lost his XPERIA V at the beach in the ocean while videoing and it kept on videoing for some time after it was lost.
It was found and returned to the owner some days later after being dragged from the ocean. All still working and the under water video was on YouTube. Can't say better than that.
XPERIA i1 HONAMI ... THE NEXT YEAR
