[Q] Clockwork back up fail? Please help! - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, like the majority of people who has a fascinate who wants to get 2.2, I found myself working through the threads posted on these forums. But I've ran into a snag.
i've set everything up correctly and rooted the phone. Before I push and install a custom rom, i'd like to have a back up. So i've been using clockwork to do this. Rom manager keeps failing about a 1/3 of the way through back up. it says something along the lines of "error while backing up boot image".
I cannot figure out what exactly is going on here. I've tried many different things but with no success. Can anyone shed some light on how to fix this so I can get a back up before I put a custom rom on the phone?
Thanks!

Any ideas out there?

Don't ever use ROM MANAGER(It's not 100% friendly with FC), as that being said, Refer to My Guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001064
Download CWM in step 8
Then, if you don't have Odin, Download it in Step 2
Read Step 3 and 4.
Instead of putting ROM in PDA, put the CWM.tar file in PDA.
Then click start.
It will reboot to RED CWM.
When CWM is installed, you can download any ROM of your choice, I suggest SuperClean 2.9.2. V, from Android Development Section.
If this Helped you, Thx me by pressing button at bottom right

does this provide any back up so i can reroot the phone to its original state incase of an OTA update?
I am a little confused on this

STOCK ROM
http://adrynalyne.us/files/kernels/DI01package3.tar.md5
THESE Steps are to upgrade your phone to Froyo.
since your phone is rooted skip to #2.
BEFORE DOING ANY OF THESE STEPS, MAKE SURE TO BACK UP EVERYTHING. Contacts w/e u need after installing ROM.
Best Backup App is Titanium Back-Up. (It's 5bucs, but worth every penny)
Must Do before all the steps
1. Download and Install Samsung Drivers
64bit:
http://www.wikifilez.com/root file...alaxyS_x64.zip
or
32bit:
http://www.wikifilez.com/root file...Phones_x86.exe
2. Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Enable Debugging then plug in your phone
Step 1: Download Z4Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
put it into sdcard, click "my files", then install it. After that, click Permanent Root. If its done, the Phone should reboot.
Step 2: Now you have successfully rooted your phone, you can Download CWM, but before you do that, you need Odin.
Download Odin here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832827
Then Download CWM: I uploaded this link by myself, couldn't find decent one.
http://www.4shared.com/file/08yRO9cs/cwm-recovery-ALL.html
Step 3: To flash CWM, you have to turn your phone to "Download Mode"
It can be done simply by taking battery out and Holding down button + home key, then plug it to USB.
Step 4: Now you are ready to flash CWM. Open the Odin, if your phone is connected, the message box should say "Added!!" Then, you are good to go.
After that, click "PDA" and click the CWM.tar file and press Start.
Don't unplug until the message @ bottom shows up!
When the process is done the message box should say
" Removed!!
Completed..
All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)"
Step 5: When its done, put the battery back on. When it starts, it should go in to 2.5.1.x Red CWM. Its perfectly fine, now just click reboot now.
Volume Down > Down
Volume Up> Up
Menu > Back
Back Button > Forward
Step 6: Download SC Rom here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983395
Then put it into SD Card.
Step 7: Turn off your phone, then Start the Phone by pressing BOTH of Volume key > Power button.
It should take you back to CWM.
When you are in CWM
Wipe DATA/Cache
Wipe Dalvik (click Advance)
Step 8: Click "Install zip from SDCARD"
Then click the Archive you've saved the ROM.
Then Apply it, it might take a while to Copy files.
When its done, click "Reboot System Now"
Rebooting might take 2~5 mins or more.
Your phone is rooted/Rom'd
You can choose theme that is SuperClean friendly.
Let me know if there's any problem....
If this helped you.

If you are in Stock ROM right now, you can just flash (assuming you are rooted) CWM and there is Nandroid Backup Menu in there.
Edit: But I see a lot of ppl with nandroid issue. So whenever u need stock rom, you can flash all-in-one DI01 rom

i followed you step by step, and when i flashed to CWM.rar it ran and completed, however when i booted it, it just started and did not go into any recovery mode. so i turned it off and started it into recovery, and it went into the stock recovery. Some one had said that with EA28 that it had an automatic way to kick cwm if it was detected...Any advice?

however i did try this and this just worked wonders for me, instead of disconnecting after i complete the flash, i left it plugged and right as the phone reboots i threw my battery in, when i did this it auto rebooted into clockwork mod(praise god)

[Q] Is my Vibrant done for?

First of all this is probably all my fault for not unrooting my Vibrant before trying to flash the stock rom through Odin. I've tried different versions of Odin and the flash is successful, but I'm getting a black screen after the "S" during start up. Sometimes the keys will light up, other times they won't. I'm using the right .tar and .pit files as well. I'm still able to boot into recovery and download mode. I'm at a loss right now and considering just trying to get a new Vibrant from T-Mobile somehow.

I'll share with you the steps I go through when reverting to bone stock JFD.
Go HERE and get Odin3 v1.70. Earlier versions, especially v1.00 are as buggy as a roach motel.
Go HERE and get the JFD Odin3 package, including the 512.pit file and the JFD pda file.
Load them (as you seem to know how to do) and be sure to click REPARTITION before proceeding with the flash.
I'd also suggest removing the external SD and sim.. I've never personally had to do this, but you might as well...
Let me know if this succeeds or fails...
You should check out'eugenes froyo that doesn't brick' search for that. Using that method through odin and then stock will wipe everything, including your internal sd card, but it should get you up and running again. It's a pain but it should do the trick

Good man! I was gonna suggest that as the next step!
If my initial clarifications failed (I was being specific primarily about the need to repartition) to help..Then do the procedure HERE, which is flashing Eugene's brick liberating Froyo first before using Odin3 to revert back to JFD..
note: this requires you having a working and functional install of the AndroidSDK found HERE.
Thanks and thanks for posting links, I can't do that yet

since you already have the original jdf.tar im assuming. all you need to complete the equation is the froyo that doesnt brick as a few others have already said. you will lose everything on sd card.
step 1: load up ODIN
step 2: select the pit file that you have already
step 2: select eugenes froyo.tar as the pda selection
step 3. turn off phone and take battery completely out
step 4: plug usb cable into phone and computer (battery must still be out)
step 5: push and hold both vol +/- keys and insert battery.
Step 6: if done correctly, you should know be in download mode (yellow triangle, actually says downloading lol) if not repeat steps 3-5 until successful then continue to step 7 (one of the com windows should light up displaying com:4 for example but could be any number..
Step 7: select repartition, auto reboot, and f. reset time. NOTHING ELSE.
step 8: click start.
Step 9: assuming that it doesnt hang anywhere, the blue progress bar should slowly continue to move until finish and phone boots into recovery (probably gonna through an error. doesnt matter)
Step 10: battery pull
Step 11: repeat steps 4 and 5 now
Step 12: this time select same pit file
step 13: for the pda file select ...uvjdf.tar (the one you originally tried to flash that landed you in this situation).
step 14: uncheck repartition this time. (only f. reset time and auto reboot should be selected)
step 15: click start.
Step 16: if it hangs, repeat steps 10-15.
step 17:it will reboot into recovery. then select reboot phone now.
step 18: assuming that all was done correctly, you should have your phone back exactly how it was the day you bought it, minus the sims3(sacrifices)
I feel like your phone may have been burned by dragons recently. lemme know if it works.
Gave your idea a try masterotaku and the outcome was the same. I'm now trying the "eugene's froyo that doesn't brick". I'm unfamiliar with Android SDK. Do I just install it and thats it?
Flashing to eugene's froyo that doesn't brick and then flashing back to stock worked. Ya'll saved my phone! Thanks for all ya'll help. This has got to be the most quick to respond forum and most helpful one I've been apart of. Thanks again. Is there like a points system here or something I can use to show my gratitude?

[USCC] Restore phone without ODIN files

!!NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES TO YOUR PHONE. I PERSONALLY DID THIS AND FIXED MY PHONE IF YOU SCREW UP OR SOMETHING GOES WRONG I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE!!
Im going to write up a tutorial on restoring a mesmerize to stock. You all know there isn't any ODIN files for the mesmerize at the current moment. However there is a work around that I figured out.
THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE A CWM BACKUP!
I can make a stock one if need. I am not however 100% positive if you can use someone elses. Someone will need to clarify this.
Okay to get started you will need to obtain all the VZW ODIN files. I got all mine from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-844886.html
Odin: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Odin3 v1.3.exe -This is program to use to flash.

I want to thank the OP of that article because I would either have a bricked phone, or a fascinate at the current moment.
You can follow the steps on that post to get to the part where you can boot into CWM. After that all you have to do is restore you backup and flash the USCC kernel. I will however go over the steps in this post.
1. Install drivers from Samsung(in that link)
2. Download ODIN and all VZW ODIN files.(in the link)
3. Start ODIN and plug phone into computer via USB cable, then hold the volume down button this will take you into the "flashing" mode. There will be a big Triangle and a android construction worker.
4. Make sure the phone shows up in ODIN.
!!I did not use a PIT file and if you want to you can it is included in that link.
!! ALWAYS USE THE PDA BUTTON. ALWAYS! FOR ALL THESE FILES!
5. Flash Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar.md5 first. Phone will turn off enter "flash" mode same way by holding volume down.
6. Flash Stock-i500-VZW-Kernel.tar.md5. Phone will turn off enter "flash" mode same way by holding volume down.
7. Flash Stock-i500-VZW-Recovery.tar.md5. Phone will turn off enter "flash" mode same way by holding volume down.
8. Flash CWMrecovery.tar.
9. Download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Fascinate Files/update.zip and put at the root of your SDCARD, DO NOT RENAME.
10. Enter recovery mode via: VOLUME DOWN, VOLUME UP, and POWER and hold until SAMSUNG.
11. Select Apply update.zip in stock recovery. This will bring you into the CWM recovery.
12. Go to backup and restore, select with power button. Then select restore, choose your backup and select yes.
13. This will now restore your system.
14. Load up ODIN again and put your phone in "flash" mode.
15. Download USCC Kernel and load in PDA.(WILL INCLUDE LINK WHEN I GET HOME)
16. Flash.
Your phone is now back to your orginal rom!
I had to figure this out the hard way after flashing a bad rom that wiped out the recovery part of my phone. I had backups but no way of restoring them without CWM. Was about to cave in and just make it a fascinate but after I did so I wanted to try restoring my mesmerize files and reflashing kernel. It worked my phone is 100% back to normal. I can factory reset my phone and make a back up if that is possible for others to use my recovery files. Im not sure so I will not upload until someone clarifies.
Not sure if it is relevant, but I have restored to another users CWM backup on my HTC Desire with no issues.
Thx for this tutorial. I hope I never need it, but better safe than sorry...
thanks for the info. i have a fascinate that i messed up and as right now i can only get the construction guy or the pic of phone connecting with computer...the steps that you mentioned, will they work on fascinate? oh, i can also get to reset screen but i get "E: unable to mount sdcard" or something like this.
I'm in serious need of a Stock Restore of some type. RUU would be nice as I'm not familiar with ADB that much. Can someone point a noob in the right direction?
There is a thread on restoring the fascinate with ODIN. On first page I believe.
You can use this method or there are ODIN files now out so you could just use odin to resotre to stock. I can post them when I get home.

[Guide] [4/04/11] Complete Guide to recover your Fascinate from any Error.

I've created this Guide because I know there are plenty of people who are frustrated with their Fascinate Errors and no one has answers for them (Including myself).
This Method takes while but bear with me.
This Method recovers from any Error by restarting the Fascinate from the Stock Rom.
Before you do any of this, this will wipe all the data stored in internal memory so I strongly suggest to back-up any data you would like to save by using
Titanium Back-Up (Known to be Best Back-up app and it truly is).
Step 1: Download All-in-One DI01 Rom

Direct Link
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XCS5LF18
Step 2: Download Odin3 1.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832827
Step 3: Turn your phone off. Then, Hold volume down + Press Home Button and plug it to usb computer (Taking battery out don't really matter, but like Chopper the dog thankfully stated in post #5, it helps the purpose). If the step is done right, the screen should show "Download Mode" in yellow.
Step 4: Turn on the Odin > If your phone is connected right, in the "Message" box, it should say " Added!!"
When you confirm it, click PDA, don't ever click phone button. Then click the rom you have downloaded @ step 1.
Press Start. This process might take 2 minutes to 6 minutes.
Don't unplug until the message @ bottom shows up!
When the process is done the message box should say
" Removed!!
Completed..

From now on, it is step to recover to your previous ROM + Rooted.
Step 5: Download z4root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
put it into sdcard, click my files, then install it. After that, click Root.
Step 6: Now you have succesfully re-rooted your phone,
Open Odin and put your phone into Download Mode.
Then again, using PDA button install the CWM-Recovery-All.
Step 7: Now, you can choose any ROM you want to install.

Not totally necessary. It does help if you have intentions of flashing a rom or kernel in cwm so the device won't boot right away after odin resets device. But for modem switches without a change in rom/kernel setup having the battery in does no harm.
good day.
Dunno if this is helpful, but ill add anyway. Sometimes Odin flashes fail. Dont give up hope. Odin it several times until it succeeds. Happened to me several times - most notably when I was trying to get rude of early kaoscinate builds. But then again l, that could be entirely my fault.

Thanks for writing such a thorough and easy to follow guide. I want to add a few points based on my own experiences.
Usual disclaimer, not responsible for what you do to your phone.
There is a step short of going all the way back to DI01 and that is flashing a Full Stock EB01 engineering test build. Here is the thread at Android Central:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...faq-plus-stock-unrooted-rooted-downloads.html
(I searched for the file here at XDA but couldn't find it)
After following this guide to return to DI01 build and you still have problems you can go a step further and do what is being called by some a 'deep clean'.
Boot into red recovery. Do the usual reset/wipe/wipe
Then under 'mounts and storage' you format boot, system, data, and dbdata.
Do NOT format sdcard or sd-ext if you want to keep your data (pictures, videos, files to flash, etc)
Make sure you have anything you want to flash on your SD card before doing this step. Because you won't be able to boot your phone to side load files to your sd card.
Then follow whatever instructions you want to push via odin or flash via CWM
(Credit to Gunnermike53 over at AC for telling me about this procedure)
This is as 'clean' as your phone is going to get short of formatting your whole SD card.
Important: If you are reflashing to Froyo (2.2) you want to make sure that the Setup Wizard doesn't try to restore all your apps. This step has a bad habit of restoring apps that you have uninstalled. This is especially important if you want to reinstall/restore apps one-by-one to identify a rouge app.
When you reboot your phone to a flavor of Froyo (its only a problem with 2.2 not 2.1), skip the step to run the Setup Wizard on first boot. Just keep hitting 'skip' and 'next' until you are at your desktop. Then go to Settings/Privacy and uncheck 'Backup my Data'. This will also disable Automatic restore (if it doesn't uncheck that as well)
But there is one more step to prevent this:
Now go to Settings/Setup Wizard and run the setup. Do the steps until it offers to backup/restore your apps reply 'no' or 'skip' I forget which it is.
Hope this is helpful. That automatic restore bit me in the A$$ once and I had to go back and start over.
It worked for me! i had issues getting the clockwork to work properly ("signature verification failed") on my stock 2.1 with OTA EA28. Now I'm running froyo. thanks xHoLyx!!

ODIN'd to JFD and Can't get CWR to Flash? Updated around 7PM

Deleted... if you want a good guide that I made:
Check it out here.
I did ODIN back to Eclair 2.1 last night and was planning to start rooting and flashing roms. Would you suggest me to NOT do it and if so, what should be the plan of action in such cases?
Go for it.. you are not going to hurt anything. Please report back if the guide works as it should, or if CWR does not flash. You will know because when you go to re install packages it will reboot... where it would normally bring you back to the stock recovery and you would press re install packages again.
This is very weird, because i rooted and flashed a new rom/kernel using your guide with my vibrant and it turned out fine.
I tried the exact same thing with my gf's vibrant this morning and got the issue of just rebooting of the phone instead of going into the red Clockwork recovery.
I'm going to try this new update.zip and see if it makes any difference and will post again if it results in a different outcome.
Same thing used to happen to me. Your EDIT (unsure about file because I don't need to try it but deleting old update.zip files) works. For some reason, when I would JFD back it would double the size of the update.zip file. I have one that is 633kb on my computer so i have to delete the doubled one, drag and drop the one on my computer, reinstall packages blah blah blah.....
I have a question.
If I use a different version of the ODIN than the one you have on your guideline. 1.85 vs 1.70 does it make a difference? Can I use the 1.85 version?
No difference
I tried that! I tried to Flash a new rom using ROM MANAGER. When all was done, I came back on Stock Eclair and I can't get into Recovery Mode by pressing Vol Up + Down + Power button anymore! However, I did manage to get into Recovery Mode using CWR and then selected to apply zip updates. My WiFi interent wasn't working before but it seems to be working now. I can't find the option to turn on my 3G internet though!

Sounds like you need to odin to jfd

ok, so I dont know why but this is how i got it working.
On step 5 of the Back to ODIN guide, it states "Now, You could power off, but you do not need to. Hold in both volume buttons and power for a good bit. Do not have the phone plugged into a usb. Once you see VIBRANT, release all buttons."
At this stage, I turned my phone off and then went into stock recovery to reinstall package. So instead of going into stock recovery from when the phone was on, I went into it from when the phone was off. This allowed me to go into CWM recovery.
Give this a shot and maybe it will work for those who are having this issue too too.
^ which update.zip did you use?
If the latter, that makes sense.
Can anyone try the update.zip below?

I used the one that's on the first post of this topic.
I tried both the old step of booting into recovery from when the phone's on and that didn't work. So I turned off the phone and then went into recovery to reinstall pkg, then it worked.

That's the one that I posted already...
i had to do this a few weeks ago because my update.zip was messed up it would just reboot when i tried to install packages im not sure what happened to it though
I had this problem myself too! I went back to stock JFD twice, once when coming from CM7 back to froyo and another when coming from Asgard to Froyo (this time).
The first time I use a guide from this forum (don't feel like looking for it atm), it was a guide that I used when I first got the phone to root and stuff... it was pretty long. Fortunately, this time I found this thread and the update.zip works, so basically it's way easier this time around. You might have to install twice for it to work... I'll try to explain what I did.
1. Flash back to stock JFD.
2. Download update zip and put on SD card.
3. Power off phone
4. Start in recovery mode.
5. Reinstall packages.
6. Power on phone.
7. Repeat steps 3-5 and when you reinstall packages the second time it should automatically restart into green recovery.
This the way to do it and work always
Flash update1.zip from attachment after you rename it as update.zip
then you will have root.
Then reboot phone in recovery and flash update2.zip after you rename it update.zip and delete the previous one.

The 1.72mb update.zip in the OP works when re-installing pkgs. Even when I somehow lost root with other update.zip files, this one still worked for me without ODINing to JFD
the possible fix mentioned worked for me.
Coming back from GB, followed your guide. When I reinstalled packages it rebooted to stock the first time, reinstalled again and went into CWM. Didn't have to mess with the update.zip.

[Q] Flashing ROM

Okay so Im trying to flash a rom, I have rooted it with super one click method. Im trying to flash a rom.
Usually in all the other phones that I have rooted and flashed sensation mt4g g2 g2x you root it then simply move on to CWM then you flash a recovery. It seems like the recovery isnt sticking..
I have looked for guides on how to flash. But a lot of them say there outdated.
Any ways if someone could give me a clue and point me in the right direction that would be lovely thanks!

you need to odin a stock modified kernal.tar in order to get cwm to stick. Here it is:
http://goo.gl/QCYxT
If you need odin and samsung drivers, there in my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
Remember to only put the file in the PDA function of odin...
Okay thanks very much this odin thing is very different from what I'm used to.
Am I going to extract these files? obviously not drivers, but Odin files I extracted. Am I going to extract the kernal.tar?
I'm trying to install Miui its 2.3.4 so im guessing that other guide is the right one can someone confirm that this is safe?

Someone Please Please help.
edit: your not following the directions clearly... The problem is you continued past step 4 without letting your phone boot up. If you dont follow directions to a T you will brick your phone.
Okay, listen carefully. Go to jt1134's CM7 thread in fascinate development section. Go to the first page, scroll down until you see CWM fixed for CM7, download it. Use Odin to flash full stock ED05 with atlas 2.2 pit file, check the box for repartition, then hit start. Boot up, then power down and take battery out. Flash the CWM fixed for cm7 in Odin, unplug from computer, put battery back in, then (this is important!) hold both volume buttons and the power button until you see Samsung logo, then release. You will then be in the right recovery to flash any MTD ROM. Wipe all three, flash ROM, reboot. Also go to stickies in fascinate development, read "Going from Vanilla GB to anything else" thread. It will give you more details and is properly updated. Good luck!

all that info is in the link i provided for him
here is the going back to stock section in that link I provided.
* How to get back to stock after flashing any rom, follow these steps:
Step 1: Download this stock ed05 rom package by pentafive to your pc. you will need to unzip with 7zip or winrar, http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...144787558901&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13175749481381
Step 2: power off phone and pull battery
Step 3: open odin on your computer
Step 4: plug in factory usb cable and hold the volume down button. Yellow
triangle should appear saying "download mode"
Step 5: click on PDA in odin and find the vzw_official ed05.tar file(rom) you downloaded to your computer in step 1
Step 6: click on PIT in Odin and select the atlas 2.2 pit, it's in the file you downloaded in step 1
Step 7: click start and wait 5min, box in left hand corner of odin will say PASS, then click reset.
Step 8: unplug usb cable, put battery back in and boot phone.
You are now back to stock ed05.(verizon's latest release for the Fascinate)

When you mean boot up, what do you mean like start it normally? The last guide said that and it wouldnt boot up.
Also Is this it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190668?
That Link you gave me when I click on it. I only get "Parameter 'out' is required." bad link?
you can go back to original link on my first post and get everything there lol, but being the nice guy I am I went ahead and fixed the link.
Alright. So I got followed your guide and got cwm installed. I made a nandroid. I wiped everthing and flashed MIUI It booted up and runs. So im on step 8 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212239
When I try and install a app it says insufficient storage on device.
Is this because I didnt install ec09-modem.tar.md5 and GBBootloaders.tar?
I know that im not going to need to install Gaps. But I want to make sure these things ^^ up there are the right things for my rom.
I went ahead and risked it haha. It worked. Okay so now.. It says that I dont have root. Would I be okay to use the superone click method again to root it?

power off and pull battery, get back to dl mode, open odin and install the eco9 modem and gb bootloaders. reboot and see if everything is working. If you still dont have root and you may not, follow what directions below.
- superoneclick wont work.
-push this file below to you sd card
- long press the power button and select recovery(do not three finger into recovery once your on a mtd rom)
- install zip from sd like you did the rom.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25089906/su-2.3.6.1.x.zip
-you should now have root
Okay Ill do that THANKS SOOOOO MUCH!!
Is Clock work going to stick? Do I need to install rom manager and flash the newest one?
I tried to go into CMW through long press home and click recovery. It says Multiple packages tries to request sytem root permission wich is disabled by default to ensure system security. If you need to enable it, please go to setting in super user.
Witch im not seeing anyting

The kernal is already modified to allow cwm to stick and you should already have the latest kernal with the version of miui that you flashed. Im not a fan of rom manager, but thats just my opinion. Fwiw the only other kernal I would mess with is the glitch kernal. That has to be installed via odin. go into the dev section and look up the glitch kernal thread and read up on it. But before you do any of that, just get the phone up and running for a day, then go from there.
Yeah haha I just need to get root so I can back up her stuff.
But its not letting me get into recovery because it says that I dont have root. How am i supposed to get into it?

If it won't let u get into cwm by long pressing power button then power phone off and try three finger into recovery(not suppose to do that with a mtd rom tho). Your only other option I know of is:
-odin back to stock
- boot up once then power off
-odin cwmall.tar from my guide
-three finger boot into recovery
-install root.zip from post 14
-reboot then power off
-odin cwm4
-three finger boot into recovery
-install miui.zip from sd
-reboot
-follow directions from step 8 on in the vanilla guide.
