Hi all.
concidering amount of the brains (and I mean in a good way), passing those forums, how come nobody haven't find a solution to mark all unread e-mails "as read". At the moment I´m using POP3 account and I got about 30-50 e-mails per day + some spam. So it is quite frustrating either open every single e-mail or just to ignore green sign with number of unread e-mails in the home screen.
... or is it only me who will find this irritating...
anyway - cheers to everybody. Great community here. In the pass I was probably only WM user in my neighborhood, who could actually use it ...thanks to XDA, as all the problems I had, got answers here.
What about check all email accounts for new email solution?
You can delete em all... but may be that's not what you want. So if you don't wanna read them all, you should be able to change your POP3 setting on the mail server in such a way that it does not send you the spam. You can also choose from within the HTC mail app how many mails per day you want to download. I know this is not the solution but am just suggesting something.
I would like to know that too! It is really annoying to read emails you dont want to read or you know what is in the email.
Would be nice to have an application for it

just to clarify... my problem isn't the spam and not the quantity. As Im using my laptop as primary worktool for checking email etc, im using my phone only when outside the office, basically in the near future I stat to use exchange anyway (waiting the setup), but this is something at the moment that I would like to solve (as it was solved when using WM diamond). Just imagine, have read all 30 mails received by noon and driving out of office, when checking mail while driving, I got all the mails received/read earlier shown as "new". Simplest thing to do, when not using IMAP, is mark them all read, which should be something easiest tasks with WM phone but not with Android... I hope you understand ....
basically I have lot of unread e-mails. I will pick up the ones I think are important (based on the subject) and read them, all others I will ignore and I would mark them "as read".

OK, the bottom line is the mails you don't regard as important, you don't wanna read them ever... so why not "bulk delete" them??!! Cuz I imagine you just don't wanna see the mail icon displaying those mails as a green bubble. You can do so!! When in the HTC mail app where all emails are listed, press menu and select delete >> you'll see a X icon in from of every email >> you can select the ones you don't wanna read ever and then delete them all at once. I found it quite handy. But the Exchange server would be great once you get it. I just hope that Yahoo mail also becomes IMAP.
Ok you can delete, but stilll if you want to save some emails for later. This is a missing function.
Open GMail in your browser (so not the hero app):
Do a search :
in:inbox in:unread
Then choose select all.
You will get an option of selecting all mail in the search.
Choose action: mark as read
And tada, all mail is read!

hmmm.... I have no idea what do you talking about...
R U sure this is HTC Hero standard mail app, you have this "search unread" option and "select all" option? My phone sure as hell doesn't have this function.

true, true...
saphuis is probably talking about gmail app, not the inbuild imap/pop/exchange client.
This is a missing feature, we need to be able to select multiple messages and do stuff with them, currently this only works for delete ( Menu-delete )
I'm not sure, but if you don't need exchange, you might be able to use default android mail app, that might have the features you request ... quick google search did not help me to be sure ...
should have been more clear.
Had the same problem. Could only solve it in the browser gmail environment.
OK, another idea to solve the problem in its current state (although it is not an alternative to including the desired feature in the mail app!!) >> How about moving all the unread mails at once to another folder e.g. Trash?? That way, you'll still have them but won't see them in the inbox or as a green bubble.

Wow, you are right ! Nice one
well this might work, but it's lame. how can it be that this device is advertised as the uber-internet-and-mail-smartphone and is not capable of the simpliest tasks... this has to be improved, it's a shame.
i mean, we're not apple, so this should be possible without three major os releases, shouldn't it?
POP3 doesn't support 'Read' as a flag does it?
AFAIK, the App keeps track of the last message it saw, and downloads new ones since its last download - but there's no Read synchronisation between different POP3 applications.
You need IMAP for that - or use Gmail to collect your POP3 mail and then use the Gmail app instead..
I have my HTC Mail linked to my Apple MobileMe account.
If I read, delete, not read a message on the Hero, this is reflected in Mail on my Mac.
Seems they are synced pretty closely.
Sorry, not in any way helpful here, but just wanted to highlight the fact.

POP3 didn't have this option with WM as well. Issue here is not the difference between IMAP and POP3, but missing feature on the standard E-mail app on the HTC Hero (android op sys) to select all unread messages at once and mark them as read.
There are different options how to mark them unread and all these options are fine until you have couple of e-mails per day, but if the quantity of the e-mails is quite high, then all those options (like manually selecting each e-mail) fail.
So basically this is the reason I hate to use e-mail app and one and only advantage of Windows phone comparing to android at the moment. ... I hope this advantage of WM will dissapear soon.
Howdy everyone.
I did the manual upgrade to 2.2 on my AT&T streak and love it. There are just a few annoying things like my clumsiness that results in discarded emails while typing them up.
I was wondering if there were a setting or a tweak that would allow me to move or remove the discard button from the email application.
I guess this is not possible since there were no responses.
The Corporate email client is annoying in a number of ways. I wish it looked and functioned like the gmail application.
Is there another email app I should be using?
I have "seven beta" on mine (http://community.seven.com/choose.html)
Real push mail from free, using less power.

Ok guys, I have looked far and low for this answer and tried numerous apps to see if that was the answer but they all give me the same result...
In any email client I use with my Dell Streak, I have to manually add the email of the person I want to send it to in the "To" bar... I can't believe I have to do that.
Is there not an app or some setting that I am missing to where I can pull up the contacts' info and automatically insert into the "To" field instead of having to manually type that person's email.
I know I can go to the contact in my contact list and select to send that address an email or an SMS or whatever I want to do, but what if I want to compose an email and send it to several people, I have to manually enter each address...
Please tell me there is a work around or something that I am missing guys and not doing correctly...
Thanks for all your help in advance!
The stock DELL mail widget does all this. You start typing the contact in the compose mail screen and their email pops up, select it and it stays in the TO: bar followed by a comma and you can continue adding recipients.
Thanks for the reply eSZee.
Yes I know that the stock android email and/or gmail client is supposed to do this, I have an HTC Inspire 4G that does it just fine after a couple of letters are typed in, but my Streak doesn't do it at all, that's what has me stumped and there's no one close to me for me to compare with, that's why I finally broke down and posted.
I'm running Streakdown 1.9, 318 BB if it matters. Been like that since. I haven't used the stock froyo except to bring my Streak back from a bricked state, and I really don't wanna have to go through the trouble of using the QDL to get back to stock froyo and then have to go through the trouble of flashing the streakmod again, but it may be my only alternative....
But if there's not a setting for this it may just be what I have to do if no other solution arises
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to forward a message using the native gmail app on android to a group of contacts already established on gmail? I often need to forward an email to a group of employees but have found no way to do it other than logging on to gmail on the computer which isn't very efficient. I've searched quite extensively but have found no solution. It seems hard to believe - anyone know how to do it, or know of a third party app that works with gmail to do so? I'd really appreciate any response!
ABQslim
Well I don't know about a group. But you can add as many as you like. Just tested a mass Email to 35 people. Just open up the message. On the right hand side towards the top you'll see a star, an arrow facing left, and a triangle facing left. Press the triangle and a menu will pop up Reply, Reply All, and Foward. Then when box pops up for send to just add as many Contacts as you'd like.
Yes, that works, thanks, but then I'd have to memorize the names or emails of everyone in my group which isn't my strong point (especially for groups with lots of members)....

A backwards way of doing this, I figured out, is to copy the message text you want to forward to a group and then go into a program like Go Contacts, select the group you want, click email all, then paste the text into the email body. A bit cumbersome bit the only solution I can find. Anyone else have any other more straightforward solution? I can't believe the gmail app wont allow for this.

Has anyone tried Contact Lookup Pro for contact searching (particularly for groups) and then bulk emailing?

I use Group Contact Manager Pro application. It has option "Copy all email addresses to clipboard." which make possible to paste all group addresses into forwarded email. Maybe it is not perfect solution but at least it is a real forward displaying as such in gmail.
I upgraded to the Rezound from a Thunderbolt and now I have to press a stupid "Show HTML images" button on all HTML formatted emails! I have a corporate Exchange account, and my Thunderbolt did not intrude on my email viewing with this irritating request for every blessed email, nor did my iPhone prior to the Thunderbolt.
What can be done to stop this bad behavior? Can Sense be modified either in the current 3.5, or can HTC fix this in the new 4.0 for ICS? Or, is there a root required mod to be made? It should have a global setting, just like MS Outlook offers, to either require acknowledgement for each HTML email, or not. To require it for each email even if the user does not want it is absurd.
They also broke the hardware back arrow functionality, so now when you are in any folder other than the Inbox and press the back arrow you are ejected from the program, instead of being returned to the Inbox, as it was in the Thunderbolt.
How can we ensure that these problems are fixed in the next version of Sense? Does HTC fix the problems which they create in new versions when they release the next edition, or do developers need to mod the program to fix HTC errors?
Go into your settings for the Exchange account. In the Send and Receive settings change the Include File Attachment to "Always".
See if that helps for new emails.

I tried most of the settings, and none seemed to stop the button from popping up on any HTML emails, even those which I have already viewed and clicked the button for!
I have not had this problem since I had the old Win Mobile HD2 from 2 years ago. I hate taking two steps forward and one back when upgrading to a new phone.
Seems like a software problem then. My phone doesn't behave that way. It automatically downloads images and HTML when opening.
Maybe something with the way the account is setup? Or the Mail app?

My Thunderbolt did not misbehave that way either, but my Rezound does, at least on MS Exchange email.
Are you using Exchange?
I am using an Exchange account. It's an Outlook Web Access setup.
I'm using NilsP's business rom, too.
I'm using enhanced email and no problems with any html emails.
Are either of you using the stock Sense email client to view your Exchange email?
Has anyone ever found the file which controls this behavior?
Does the need to continually press "show html images" in every HTML email continue in ICS? I must have pressed that stupid button a million times this year!
If this problem continues with ICS, has anyone ever discovered which file and location within the file controls this behavior?
I would love to not ever see that button appear at the top of my emails again!
