Hi all,
First of all I didn't want to start a new thread but I already followed all advises when people asked about this issue and had no luck, don't know what else to do.
I got my new gtablet four days ago (not a woot) and have been trying different roms (TNT 4.3.1 / Vegan 5.1) with no luck in the android market. Of course I tried the fixes for the market, clearing cache, data, even re-partitioning to make sure partition was 2048 | 0, turning off firewall in my router... EVERYTHING! On the stock ROM (3588) I can download and install apps from the market with no issues. In TNT lite 4.3.2 (my actual ROM) I can download things from the browser, but not from the market. As soon as I click to install, it keeps in "starting download..." and could be there for hours without downloading a single bit.
Is anybody experimenting the same (frustration, haha)? How can I identify where the problem could be?
Thanks in advanece!
mmmm.... ideas?
Thanks!
This has been happening to me on and off with both updates and new downloads for the past week or so. Usually I can kickstart it by canceling it and selecting it again. Some seemed to be more difficult than others.
+1. I usually stop the download and kick start it again. After a few times, it usually starts the download.
Hey, first thanks for the replies!
I try stop & reconnect all the time even with different applications but I have no luck. Another strange thing is that I cannot connect to google talk. It always give me the error that it cannot connect with the server. I'm pointing this as I know that the market and gtalk are close related. Does that rings a bell?
Download it and restart the device..it.should start downloading again once its.back on

That could be a network or server issue. Can you use the web based market?
If that works try the market fix again. There have been times that I had to do that three or four times to get it working correctly.

Hello there, and thanks for stopping by! What you mean by web based market? Whenever I type android market on the web browser, it goes to https://market.android.com/ but for downloading, jumps to the market application and the neverending "starting download" starts again Nevertheless I was using without any issues the limited market that comes with the stock ROM! That's just to discard issues with my internet connection. Also, tried on a different connection and everything stays the same.

Any time I've had anything like this a clear cache or data wipe took care of it. Very odd. Maybe Dalvik Cache?
Mine did the same thing and I found my date/time was reset. Setting the proper time fixed it instantly. Downloading would hang in the market but dl'ing an apk from getjar worked fine. Good luck!

Did you ever get this issue resolved? My friend as the same issue with downloads not completing and I'm at a loss as to how to fix it?
Thanks.
I'm seeing this exact same issue (including the Google Talk Authentication failure) on VEGAn-TAB 5.1.
Has anyone found a resolution for this? Thanks!
I found my issue -
I didn't have a gmail account. Without a gmail account Google Talk doesn't seem to work and the Marketplace uses Talk.
Symptoms:
Google Talk autentication failure on boot up
Marketplace would not download, stuck on "Starting download"
Resolution
Created new email account [email protected]
Logged into Google Talk through PC app to set-up account
Wipped all user data from tablet through clockwork
Added gmail account in settings
Had to do market fix again, but after that everything worked

Randomly my Android Market started acting up with regards to downloading apps. I can browse through and search apps just fine but when I click Install to start downloading an app it just hangs on 'Starting download...' on and off wifi.
I researched the problem and found remedies of starting gtalk and clearing the download manager cache, all of which were ineffective (obviously otherwise I wouldn't be posting this!). The only thing that was temporarily effective was re-flashing the stock firmware with odin. Initially I could download apps after flashing with odin but after letting the phone sit for a few minutes I could no longer download apps :-(.
On a perhaps related note I do recieve random notifications about unsuccessful downloads while I'm not even using my phone of applications that I've never even attempted to download..
Yeah I get the same issues with mine on the stock rom.i find that if I reset my wifi connection it starts to work again. Just a thought.

Ineffective for me :-(.
Anybody ?
Playing around with it a lil more if I toggle the wifi then restart the download it generally starts workimg again. Just out of curiosity are you in a poor reception area when this happens?

Had this issue on my G1 with CM6. Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. Scroll to market, click, clear cache. Let me know if this works as well.

Nope, I either have great EDGE or HSDPA service.
Before anyone asks, all other web based apps that I can use at this point (browser mostly) work just fine.
My best guess is that it is just buggy atm, it would seem that it has a hard time deciding which method to use to download. For me at least choosing between wifi and edge/3g.

You can uninstall the market from your manage apps/applications without any harm. Won't remove the app, but will clear all the market data stored on your phone. You just accept the tos again when you open the market and you're going. Hope this helps

It hangs for a few seconds then says "download unsuccessful"
To follow up I have cleared data in market through app management, factory reset, and disabling mobile data and renabling it.
One last update it's randomly kinda fixed... Some are downloading others aren't. At this point I am going to assume it is a server-side problem and get some sleep. Will update when I wake up.

Nope it isn't downloading anything. Any clues guys?
EDIT: I'm really losing my mind over this. I've searched all over the internet. I've tried clearing data on many apps, but cannot find the "google apps" I'm supposed to clear. If I download through my pc (Send it from the android market to my phone through pc interface) it works just fine...
Okay I've removed my sd card and lots more. I started a new google email as I heard that worked and it did, but everything that I've bought is gone... So obviously this has something to do with my current gmail address... I think... Any clues?
Ever since I updated WWF after the TW update, I get an error connecting to the servers and can't play any games. I have tried a forced close and clearing cache. anyone else having problems with this? If so, does anyone have any solutions?
Thanks

I had to update in the market place to fix mine. Works perfect now.

I played last night and everything worked great, even got push notifications for the first time. WWF definitely needs a paid version for android to get rid of those annoying adds.
That and I can receive chat messages but I can't send them.

after doing the update from the market, i was able to send messages. I couldn't do anything without it FC or giving me network error message from the version that was loaded with Touchwiz.
How did you guys get the version from the market to update the TW version? When i go out to the Market "Open" is the only option I get.
when you go into settings>applications what version do you have installed? I am running 3.61
Mine shows up as 3.59. Funny thing is that the Market version says 3.61 but "open" is the only option I get.

Try clearing the cache for your market and see if it will come up
Mine is version 3.59 as well.
Same issue when I go to the market.
I just emailed the dev.
When are these adds going to be dealt with?

That did not work for me.
I removed my stock version and installed it again from the market. I pulled and zip the apk. Extract and install from from your sdcard.
I can't try it right now, but I will check it out later. Thanks for taking the time!

Naked, work was blocking the download. After getting impatient I tried logging into the Android market on my PC and forcing an install on my tablet. It worked like a charm! I am now running 3.61. I am testing it now, but I have yet to get an error.

Sweet, glad you got it working. Good idea on doing the web page market and forcing the upgrade. I'll keep that in mind in the future.
I have seen often programs not able to update properly when they are located /system/app. Since the it was part of the upgrade to TW, they have it located there.
The install from Market worked great for me as well.
Never knew you could do that.

TripleTapper, can you please explain more? Now do you "force install" from the market? It just tells me that my Nook Color is incompatible with the app, and the buttons are greyed out.
Thanks.
I just opened the Market using the browser on my PC. When I do that and search for Words for Friends I click on install. It then gives me an option to install onto my various Android devices by selecting it from a pull down. My Galaxy Tab comes up as Samsung GT-P7510.
Words has been working flawlessly now! : )

Mine are dead since the update...
How can I fix them? Maybe using an older apk?
Thanks,

Nah mate mine still work, just make sure refresh is set to never but notifications are turned on. I get em roughly 20-30 secs later than the actual website

Yes that is how they are set, as they were pre 1.8.2,and they used to work flawlessly. I also tried rebooting, and logging off and back on in both Facebook and Facebook messenger, still nothing
Got the same problem.I stopped getting notifications after the update.Only get them via google mail but super late.Reading the comments on the market it seems that its happening to many people.Guess its a hit and miss thing weather the update works or not. Some people are also uninstalling the update and going back to the previos version untill its fixed.

I went to http://www.apktops.com/ and downloaded v1.8.1, then I placed the apk into my phone via kies air, doesn't really matter in which folder. I went into application management, cleared data and cache (just to be safe), uninstalled facebook. Then I went to the folder where I placed the v1.8.1 apk, clicked on it, and installed it. I haven't received a pm yet, so I can't say yet if it did fix push notifications.
Still not working anymore.... I'm so mad at this....
I went back to 1.7.1...current versions are too buggy.
I tried everything, I
Cleared cache and data for Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Go Facebook Widget
Uninstalled those 3
Reinstalled Facebook only, different versions, v1.8.2, v1.8.1, v1.7.2. Tested with FB only, nothing
Reinstalled the latest Facebook Messenger, still nothing
Reinstalled the latest Go Facebook Widget, still nothing.
I'm out of ideas really...
PS: my mate with GS2 with official XILA2 (android 2.3.6) says that his galaxy's notifications are also dead, but he has them just fine on his Transformer tablet with honeycomb
Facebook app is pretty bad period tbh comparing it to the iphones . Sometimes randomly it would give me nasty wakelocks.
i heard ads are coming to it soon :-/ lol
looks like an iphone but powered by android!!!

Have you tried this?
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/11/how-to-enable-push-notifications-in.html
I just uninstalled it all together. will try an older apk.
I must say I got push notifications to work by logging into my facebook on my mums blackberry then logging off. Maybe thats whay I still get the notifications? Wish I could help mate but if you know someone with a blackberry then try the idea posted above
Yes I did that trick with the blackberry emulator like 4 months, ago, and it worked just fine till the last update. I've since tried to revert to an older facebook apk, and redo the blackberry simulator trick, but they still won't get back on
So...refresh interval slould be "never" and notifications "on", ok?
That's my options in facebook aplication. I deleted app data in setting, but still no push working.
If anybody have a solution, please help.
Thank you...

It's been a constant problem forever with CM and a few other ROMS. It happened to me yesterday. Solutions range from cycling airplane mode, cycling 4G-3G-4G radio, or a full on reset. It usually takes a full reset for it to work for me.

Hmm, what mine will do is show that i have an MMS message from a sender and then when i open it and go into my text messages there is nothing there and its "gone" for ever. Likewise when i attempt to send it just says "sending". When you say reset what are you referring too? Because I did reboot the phone.

I have a problem with this 10.1.3 update. I hope I can use this thread to generate some assistance. After the update, I lost ES File Explorer. I went to the market and tried to download and reinstall. No go! It downloads but doesn't install. Any suggestions besides using a different App? I've added a photo of what the Play Store says when tring to install. This is my first time posting so be patient if the pic doesn't show. Thanks for your help.

Try going to Settings>Applications>Google Play Store. Then Clear Data/Cache. Then reboot your phone, and try reinstalling ESFE again.
Is ES the only app you've had trouble with? Might need to start fresh on your rom slot. Did you do a fresh install on your rom slot, or just update from 10.1.2? Did you wipe cache/dalvik when you did so?
