it hasnt worked for me since before root when it was stock
anyone else having this issue?
yes my gps is enabled lol
I was having problems like yours and a factory reset cured them all. Can be found in the storage card submenu of the settings.

ive tried everything and it hasnt worked reguardless.
I even tried diff. roms same result.
any other sugguestions?
I would suggest you just go ahead and have VZW replace it, sounds like it could be a hardware problem. Can we unroot the TB yet? Don't know myself. Things like this are one of the reasons I have not rooted yet.

I noticed when i got mine it wouldnt aquire satelites fast or at all when i was trying with google maps. Then i downloaded gps status off the market and it seems to be working as intended now. Not sure what it was but now it works without a hitch.
Been using a custom ROM and I wasn't able to get my GPS working with 4G service turned off. As soon as I turned 3G back on, my GPS started to work again.
Could be pure coincidence, but who knows.
It has been suggested that GPS will lock on quick if you have all three location settings checked. I had unchecked VZW and Google and left stand alone GPS checked. In Google Maps, I could not get my location. Other GPS apps (like C:Geo) would lock on. I went back in and clicked VZW and Google locator services and the GPS locks on quick in all apps.
I have all 3 GPS systems on and it stays on searching for GPS.
im gonna revert it to stock and return to VZW for a new one.
edit: it just found me and is now working... still returning it to vzw for a new one though
I had the same issue, no rhyme or reason. Flashed stock and it's working again. It might have something to do with CWR thats causing it, although I'm no dev and it's just an educated guess.

installing this app and running it before i use my gps fixed all my gps problems.
issue was i only use GPS once a mouth so the "agps" gets out of date and google maps sucks at updating it or something.
havent had the TB long enough to say if this helps there but on the OG droids it worked great
Verizon Level 2 Tech Support Said...
So, sadly, I've noticed the same issue with GPS not locking on. I grabbed the GPS Status app and it shows compass data, but keeps spinning when it comes to GPS data....10-15 minutes and NOTHING there. Settings > Location > VZW, Standalone and Google location services are all checked.
The best happened this morning - Google Maps had me in a 2 mile diameter space about five miles from where I was. Reboot got me back to a 200 meter radius including my actual location, but then POOF - magically started creeping back to its original place five miles away.
All this was going on during a call to Verizon tech support. I wasn't using my TB for the call - calling through Gmail (loving that, btw). Level 1 rep had no clue (script reader to a T) and so got bumped up to talk to Sergio in Level 2. Guy told me this and I think it's nonsense. Wondering if you guys have thoughts.
He said that he lives in Albuquerque and has tried GPS on Verizon devices including the Droid X, Droid2 and the TB in LA, Denver, Tucson and other cities and says that in cities it has never locked on to his location while standing. While mobile, he says it does. I said, "I don't buy it as being the reason for my issue, Sergio" and the guy has the bravado to fire back "well, I don't need you to buy it, it's a fact.".
Guy was kind of a **** from that point on, but said he would say try a master reset. Should I head that direction? Does this smell like HW more than SW? If it smells like SW, I might as well root wait for the disgustingly talented XDA crew to come up with some GB ROMS, no?
Thanks for your thoughts!
Dom
I have until thursday to return my tbolt. Ill prob go tomorrow. I noticed it was working lastnight. It took over a minute to find the gps satellites though

Im rooted and using stock and all works well... I suggest as others have, download gps status, run it, then hit menu-tools-manage A-gps state-reset.
It should be ok after that...
GPS thinks im all over the place...
My GPS is also not working. I'm rooted but was having the same issue before rooting as well. I'm based in Houston, TX: Google maps is just off by a few miles, my time widget says i'm in Lynnville, IL, and Foursquare says i'm in some coastal town in Lithuania (and yeah it shows nearby locations in Lithuania to check into...i wonder if there's a badge for that).
Anyway, gonna attempt to return it today....will see if I can slip it past them.
I'm having GPS issues as well. It seems to take 5 to 10 min to get a location then it looses it and finds it again. Not happy with this at all. I've done a full reset and still no fix. I'm going to give CS a call and see if a new Tbolt will fix the issue.
Dan
My thunderbolt is fine. Just did a maps test and it found me in about 10s. I have two thunderbolts and the other one took about 1 minute to lock. Both tests were done from inside my house. Both are untouched stock form.
I also was having this issue and downloaded the gps status app and magically everything seemed to be working correctly. For some reason my phone kept saying that I was in "Balti" when I know I was in Portland. I think your best bet is to download GPS Status and reset a-gps status and see if that gets you back in line. Now my gps locks on quick and I am no longer in Balti.
Edit: oops
I'm no stranger to GPS issues on Android devices. When I owned a Samsung vibrant, it took forever to lock onto enough birds to get an accurate location, and I was constantly reseting GPS data and then running the GPS Test app testing it's functionality.
Do you really want to know how good your GPS is? Run GPS Test app with stand alone GPS only (no assist from data networks) and see how fast it locks and how accurate the position.
With the Thunderbolt, I bought the phone on launch date and didn't have any issues until I flashed my first custom rom. It worked perfectly after flashing it then out of the blue I noticed it wasn't working.
I flashed back to stock and it started working again. Just this morning, after a few days, when I needed the GPS for navigating a trip, I noticed it wasn't working again. I rebooted the phone and it was working again. Is it possible that something is interfering, such as turning wifi on/off? I'm not sure, but I think the reason for this not working at times is deeper than reseting the GPS data and it should work properly in stand alone mode.

Ever since the VZW Update released my GPS no longer works, (didn't Update my phone)
I used to get locks right away (8-10 satellites) when I was outside now I get ZERO.
I use GPS today and Google maps.
anyone have any explanation why it would suddendly stop working?
Running DCD 3.2.5 and 3.42.50
sorry man I have no idea. my device still gets locks but I always have to toggle location on settings. (go in and turn it to 911 only say ok till I am back to the main screen then go abck and turn it on and say ok till I am back at the main screen again) then soft reset. it takes me a while now to gets locks but I do get them (no2chem5066 with radio 3.42.50)

have you updated your phone via *228? llboredll spoke about how me might of found some issues when programing his phone after verizon released the software update.
I had some serous issues trying to get a fix yesterday but just now I walked out my basement and got 7 sats and lock within 15 secs or better. So I will have to chalk it up to some weird anomaly yesterday.
guys thanks for the quick response, ya il try resting my "location" setting and yes i did do a *228' 2 ealyer today trying to fix the issue, it didn't change my PRI.

Try a GPS program that displays the NMEA messages like GeoScout. If you don't see any then your GPS is not turning on. So either flash the ROMs again or you have a back GPS possible.
I wish you guys would read the damn forums.

Read the first post, he didn't (repeat) didn't update his phone. His theory is that Verizon did something to the network to work only with the update such that us on Custom ROMs it will not work. Obviously that is not the case but that is what he was asking or theorizing about.
I think we all have read the forums on it and are tired of people updating their phones and then complaining on this forum that it screwed up their phone. I can only say "Do your homework before flashing anything" otherwise don't whine about what you have now.
so you think it may be more along the lines of software??
give me your top 3 pics and ill try them all out.
Thanks a lot, and yes I was theorizing it was a network issue not my phone its self. seeing if anyone else may have had a issue recently with it.
Fixed it, uninstalled GPS Today
Installed GPS Toggle, and got locks 30 secs after i turned it on, thanks for leading me in the right direction!
I even get locks in my Room witch did not happen before. so defiantly awesome!
If you gps isnt accurate, or takes forever to lock on, or is just not working
goto
settings--->Location & security---> uncheck vzw location services
try to use Standalone GPS services by itself, if not use Standalone and Google. just make sure the vzw one is off.
I tested with some people and it worked for them too.
WoW.... it really works... Just confirmed it myself. I am rooted, I did NOT do lagfix and updated to DI01
confirmed worked. it took 2 sec and was almost 100% accurate. with all 3 checked it was hit and miss and when it did find me it wasnt accurate and it took anywhere from 3-5 min to find me and it was usually about 1-2 football fields away,, still on old software, no update for me yet and no root
nice find

Take it in to verizon and show them... They will give you a new phone.
So are you guys getting GPS locks in a matter of seconds all the time, even after reboot? Mine takes a few minutes all the time to get a lock, or else is very inaccurate. If I wait for the lock I get accurate to within feet, and it'll stay that way.
Well, I thought that worked for me until I rebooted my phone to see if it really worked. No dice.
From what I understand (and I could be wrong) essentially what you are doing is turning off the cell phone triangulation that google/verizon provide and sticking with just the straight GPS unit. I don't necessary see why turning off the "rough location" would effect the warm up time of the GPS unit, but maybe it actually does.
Just didn't work on mine after my GPS unit was cold.
Does anyone know if this is a hardware issue or software?
Browsing multiple forums brings up slews of the same complaints, but no one has put forth any kind of solution, nor has Samsung.
I have all location services enabled, and I get locks virtually instantly almost all the time, and it's always accurate to within probably a few feet. Maybe I'm just lucky?
I'd hate to say it, but I fear it is hardware, seeing as I have yet to have a lock take more than 10 seconds, usually 4 or less.
This is really the first time I've been on the good side of a widespread issue.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Yeah all of these "fixes" are merely temporary. All they are doing in storing the satelite info so they ock faster. If you reboot and turn off GPS for more than a few minutes it will start all over again. I will be paying VZW a visit tomorrow to see what they will do about since it seems not all phones are affected by this.
And I use my GPS a lot. The other day I was trying to find backway home and my GPS was so far off by the time it locked I was already stuck in traffic, had it locked normally, I would have been home free, my Droid1 would have never done this to me!!
I've only had issues with getting a lock after the GPS hasn't been used for a while. Lately, I've been wondering if some people who don't have issues have some type of app installed that periodically queries GPS? For example, I just installed the Asurion app that is supposed to check my location every hour. I haven't fully tested it yet, but now I'm wondering if this will keep GPS on frequently enough to the point where it won't have to re-start with the delay.
BTW... in early testing (when I first got the phone), I would wait to get a lock (maybe a minute), then after I got a lock I rebooted the phone and I still got an instant lock. So, once a lock is obtained, it seems like it keeps it for a while - even after a reboot. The main times I've had issues have been in the morning after the phone has been charging all night while asleep.

Yeah, I have a fascinate and so does my girlfriend. Locks both take minutes at the very least.
If this is hardware or if anyone has some legit theories, I'd like to know before my 30 days is up so I can de-root mine and exchange them both for phones that actually get a lock in a decent amount of time.
This is really killing me, someone please help lol heres how it goes
On boot, takes a good bit for the 3G icon to appear, eventually Phone has 3G icon gray with arrows then switches to D [still gray], i click something like a browser or Slack Radio it goes to connect and if its fast enough it does [icon changes to RED/GREEN arrows] but usually its a gray D, then the icon disappears completely. After about 60 seconds or so the icon reappears and I can continuing surfing the net/listen to music..etc. Then after about a song or 2 this happens all over again. Im in place with good reception and i just dont know what could be going on here. I tried pulling battery, doing the *228 option 2...anyone know how i can fix this
just tried hard reset, no dice
A nice excuse to call verizon and get a replacement device (most likely for free).
I've called them, they try and shoot me over to Samsung, samsung trying to tell me to get a hold of my 3G service provider...verizon did tell me i was due to upgrade, but i love this phone (when 3G worked) i just dont understand what froyo did, when im downloading stuff it works fine, but as soon as I stop and try to access something use 3G i have to wait for the 3G to "reboot" so to speak cuz thats when it disappears for minute, then comes back for me to use...but with streaming music you can see how this is an issue
I was having this same problem when they were pushing the EA28 update a couple of weeks ago which never successfully updated to my device I might add. I went into the Verizon store and after the rep spent about 10min on the phone with whoever.... Told me they were sending me a new phone. Received new phone with the EA28 update already installed 3G and all data worked GREAT! Attempted the Froyo update 6 times yesterday all unsuccessful and now the new phone I have is having the exact same problems with data connection. Comments and ideas would be appreciated. But ya better believe I'm goin into Verizon if the update attempt I'm doing now doesnt work.
I'd get another replacement from verizon tbh. If then it still doesn't resolve your issues ask to speak with a manager and tell him your situation. They might hook you up with a free upgrade.
Im going to go down to the store so I can get a face to face and show them whats happening. I mean i just wanted to make sure this wasnt some new thing on Froyo that im not understanding. I see it goes "D" [dormant] but it shouldnt disappear and take a minute to start up and let me use it right...thats poppycock!
Are you using "juice defender" by any chance?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
You're lucky that yours just takes a minute to re-establish the connection, mine will just keep giving me network errors and telling me to check network access ect., depending on what app/service I am trying to connect. Exactly the same things that happened when the EA28 updates kept failing on my last phone only 2weeks ago. Also the Froyo update that says will take 15min to download takes over an hour even though my 3g stays on constantly when downloading from Verizon.

Had it installed [but not in use] when I updated to Froyo, but I just did a hard reset and am still getting issues...
...my Froyo update came in in about a 1/2 hour or so, no drop issues ever when I was on 2.1, my 3G icon stayed in the status bar even when I was out of service range [it would go in to 1X] but on froyo its just disappearing no matter where i am]
This crap has happened ever since the first "froyo" modem leak for me (but not like I could call vzw and complain though until now) and had to resort to using the DL09 modem to increase my usage reliability by a small percentage. This crappy service only seems to affect people in certain regions, you all see where I live (look to the left) and you guys should update your profiles to reflect at least a region. I odin'd all the way to stock and did the ota's to froyo and ran stock froyo for 2 days with the same old ****ty results. I did get a replacement (in february) and still got the same exact dBm signal levels and data speeds at home that I had with the other device. But the voice mails with no missed calls and bulk texts and data lockups are really getting on my ****in' nerves. I'm so glad they finally did the ota cause I can guarantee that the issue will be wide spread in various regions. I spend all day driving around in a work truck with a coworker that has an epic (sprint) and he has absolute perfection in his service everywhere throughout the city. At the end of a 10 hour day I will have rebooted twice and have tws at 47% coworkers tws will be at 1% and he pays $35 less for unlimited everything, which is a kick in head too. Pondering etf to maintain my sanity and not be worried that my 70 year old mother is trying to call me with an emergency and having my **** go to voicemail. Now on to customer service to build a case. Ugh, pissed off rant over.
*edit* I use no juice defenders no task killers no set cpu or anything even remotely close to apps of that nature.
good day.
Not running juice defender or anything else for that matter, my phone is basically stock out of the box right now other than CWM 2.5.1, un-rooted. I did flash super user to phone after I received it, and that still appears in my apps list after factory reset but I am not rooted.
I've spent at least 8-10 hours [combined] searching the internet for issues like mine with the disappearing act the 3G icon is putting on, and i've noticed it to be a Froyo issue [even saw some complains on the Incredible on froyo and even on different networks other than verizon]. I'm not 100% sure its a Froyo bug, but either way it doesnt seem to affect everyone. I stream music a lot and i can't be having this damn 3G disappear on me and always reconnecting after like every 2 songs.....im off to verizon, i'll let you know what happens [tho they are prob going to offer me some kinda upgrade like they did on the phone, but i was happy with this phone at 2.1 and overall still am, i just want my 3G to stop glitching!]

I agree, just want my 3G to work the way it is suppose to. Dont really want an upgrade because I've never really gotten an upgrade that I actually thought was an UP-Grade. *From Verizon anyway* Still downloading software update, been well over an hour and at 73%. At this rate Verizon store will be closed by the time I'm done with this update attempt.
"UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE. reason: IP_START_UPDATE" Anybody know the possible causes of this failure?
Sounds like you are indeed losing your IP address. I have also had sporadic problems but they seem to be in low service areas. Typically I remain stationary and use local wifi so it is unconfirmed.

FINALLY FOUND A FIX [or should i say it found its way to me thanks to myself posting this issue on multiple forums lol] I can confirm that method 2 has worked for me. Dont just dial *228 with fascinate already activated, you have to remove the service completely [by activating another phone is how i did it] then reactivate it and you should be good to go. Heres a write up.

Glad to hear it, i know how frustrating it is not knowing what is going on or how to fix it. I searched since Froyo OTA looking for an answer, luckily someone saw my plight and gave me that link as well so i thought i'd share it on all the android forums i have a name on. Cuz doin this never occurred to me and i tried everything else lol
Perhaps this is a ROM problem, but let's see if I'm the only one with this problem.
If I attempt to do a navigation (Either from Google Maps, or a voice command) it takes forever for it to start. For instance, I just moved from Detroit to Alanta. I needed to get from my house to the Airport and knew the general route, but wanted to be safe. So I start moving and using google maps, search for Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. It finds it. I click the navigation button and it switches to Navigation. It then sits and says "Searching for Satellites". It did this for 30 minutes. Then when it found a Satellite, it kept the connection for about 2 minutes, then went back to searching.
I defintely had a clear shot at the sky and in the last year I've been here, never had any problems with any of the other devices that I've owned. This isn't an isolated incidence. This happens regularly, without fail.
ROM: UnNamed
App: Google Maps to Navigation, or Assistant to Navigation
Anyone else have this issue? I also have the worlds worth BlueTooth, so I will be going back to a stock rom to ensure it's not an UnNamed issue, but wondering if this is possibly a known issue. Search didn't turn up much other than everyone raving about how the GPS was galaxies better than the Captivate.
No, not here.
I've been using UnNamed since 1.0.1 was released. My GPS takes a few minutes to find the satellites when I start it after not using it for a few days. I guess it has to build the ephemeris table. But once in locks, usually not more than a couple of minutes, it's been completely awesome. BTW, I'm about 75 miles north of you.
I'm actually about 20 to 30 miles north of Atlanta in the Woodstock area.
Interesting. I'll go back to stock and see if that fixes it. If it does, then I'll go back and put UnNamed on it and see if it was just a bad flash or something. I tried it again today on the way to the airport again just for the fun of it and it did the samething. 20 minutes to get a satellite, then every 3 to 5 minutes it dropped , then a few minutes later picked back up. Not very helpful as you can imagine.
I was having the same issues... i posted a thread about it.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333409
none of the tips i tried fixed it.. But its worth a shot for you... I ended up wiping my phone today we'll see how that works..

So, I've only had my LGOG for a day and a half and I am having issues connecting with WiFi. At first it worked fine but when I left the coverage area and return a few hours later it would not connect. Tried turning off the WiFi but it kept turning itself back on. I reboot the phone and it works fine as soon as it boots up it connects the WiFi no problem. It is my work WiFi and I had no issues connecting to it from either my iPad nor my HTC One X that will soon find it's way to eBay thanks to this beautiful LGOG. If no one else is having issues, I will call AT&T and have them switch it out. I just wish there was an easy way to back up everything, I mean my home screens and app locations exc. It takes so long to set everything back up the way I find most useful.

The Wifi performance of this device is unbelievable. I get the best speeds I have ever seen with any device including PCs. It's either a faulty device or maybe your work has strange security settings?
I had this same problem with my LGOG and my home wireless network. It just would sit and try to connect until I rebooted the phone.
That was on stock though. I have not had any more problems with it after flashing the base rom.
My work has standard WPA settings and it was connected fine yesterday. I left again during lunch and when I came back, same problem and had to reboot the phone. AT&T is sending me another one already and a free case. Can't be too mad about it I guess and at least the phone reboots fast.
Have you tried using the ATT smart wifi app? Fixed the exact same issue for me.

I tried to turn it off and on and scan for the network that I am in range of and it wont show any networks it just says "not in range" when I am in range. So to remedy the situation I turned the phone off and then on. It has only done this to me twice but it's a real nuisance because both times I needed wifi. My phone is stock.
You're in a minority. This thing's wifi blows most other wifi implementations out of the water.

Perhaps you need to swap out your phone

I wish my wifi would stop re-enabling itself. It's chewing up my home bandwidth.
I have been having this issue as of late. It seems to have developed this habit in the last week or so. At first I thought it was Time Warner trolling me but it started happening at work. Something tells me it has something to do with the stock At&T Rom putting the wi-fi radio to sleep and not being able to bring it back online. Reboot fixes it most of the time but sometimes it takes a couple attempts. I have been hesitant to mod this phone still because I would really like to see CM working well before I flash. Also my instinct tells me another possible culprit could be IPv6 on certain routers. That, however, is far less likely unless someone with a decrapified Rom has experienced this issue as it would be a cross platform issue in this case. Anyone else have any insight? Otherwise it's time to get rid of the Att rom.

Same issue here. This is my second LGOG and have been happy with both except for some minor glitches on both with the keyboard freezing up as well as with the WiFi not re-connecting after leaving the area. A restart normally fixed both problems. My first one bricked after rooting and removing all of the bloatware (the phone checks for certain apps upon booting to keep you from removing stock apps). Tried a fix but I couldn't get a Rom at that point as the phone had been out on the market for under a week. I haven't messed with it since but I may try a new Rom and be able to fix the WiFi and get rid of all the bloatware that way.
Just got this ROM running today. No more WiFi issues at all. Some minor ui bugs I am OK with.

Seems like, as usual, At&T bloat ware is the culprit. I experienced the same on my Aria and Inspire. Hope this helps and good luck.
Also I had the keyboard problem but that went away when I switched to the Android default keyboard. One of the other reasons I decided to root was because rather than freezing, the Android default keyboard started typing then the auto correct broke and stopped displaying the words unless you touched the area you were typing in. It really bugged me when it started doing it right after I factory reset. Weird huh?

LG Optimus G Wi-Fi Receiver Disconnect Issue
Funny...I've had some weird home wi-fi issues on two of these.
To explain, I bought mine in December, stock OS of course, and immediately noticed it turning off my wi-fi every time I tried switching between the two home wi-fi SSIDs I created when I upgraded to DD-WRT. This also occurred outside my house, but stopped shortly after the nearly-immediate Android OS upgrade came over (and forced me to install it, I might also note; I'd read the thing was just more AT&T bloatware, but two or three boots later, apparently I got no choice, and it auto-installed).
The good news was, somehow, this 'update' somehow stopped the thing from turning the wi-fi off when I switched between IDs (my base router has a 5G 2nd network which I wanna use when I'm around it, but DD-WRT won't support, as far as expanding it--thusly, I have another 2.4GHz signal I use and relay out around my yard).
That bad news is, though, that I screwed up the phone with the Root Toolbox (Lite) by merely fiddling with their bootanim settings on that original phone. And I mean bricked it, solid.
I'd never bricked any phone, so this ticked me off. Luckily, I was still within 2 days of my 30-Day Best Buy in-store replacement warranty, so I took it back, they fiddled too, and gave up on it.
Hence, my 2nd phone...which now, even after the system update direct from AT&T, still turns off my wi-fi every time I try switching to that 2nd SSID, so I'm left wondering if it was even the same update; I don't think I did anything else, and can't see it as a settings issue, because it did it right out of the box, and the first one stopped after the only system update before I got a chance to even figure ANY user settings out, much less any network ones.
So, now I'm 'going shopping' for 'some PlayStore app' that will skip this B.S. and automatically connect to the strongest home wi-fi signal (within reason--sometimes they're equally strong), without obnoxiously turning off my wi-fi receiver as I look at it.
This kind of malarky could spoil some phones for some people, but I'll struggle along due to the speedy quad-core in it [sigh...wah!].
I guess I'm a big baby, seeing as how I don't write one iota of code, but my personal haughty view is that any dedicated wi-fi devices should have better wi-fi connection than any Windows OS made...and, so far, this'n doesN'T!
What a dumb thing to let happen in such a potentially awesome phone...[AT&T!!!]
This might work or not but can't hurt to try. Apparently some people in the new snowleopard JB thread was having similar issues and for a few, changing the security from WPA2 to WEP worked. Although mines been good and fine on WPA2 but worth a try.
Using wep in 2013 is beyond retarded.

DUDE! Senior Members here can be a little uppity and rude...even if they're completely correct.
Glad you called out the 'behavior', and not the 'member', though...
but enough of the technicalities...I'm still looking for solutions...beyond blaming AT&T (too easy), or even the strangeness of getting into blaming some weird kind of manufacturing errors (QC at best), I'm left waiting for a substantial OS update (like, oh a better place of decimal, perhaps?), or worse, an app...anyone look at the state (and sheer number) of 'wi-fi' apps? Anybody here can guess, they number in the thousands, and a Play search for 'wi-fi' gets you astronomically different results from 'wifi', even, so I'm not sure I need to be looking at that.
Maybe it's even somehow that, with the first phone, I noticed this, and somehow added my own home network to the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi 'bloatware' that came with the phone (not the worst evil they've ever done, so far, BTW--it does exactly what I imagined should be going on in the background while you're driving around, indexing locales with free Wi-Fi for you to choose to save later...an idea I would call 'Tarzaning', if you get my drift).
I'm gonna try changing two settings in the AT&T 'Smart Wi-Fi' bloatware to 'My Spots' temporarily, at least, to see if it'll latch onto my home stuff more aggressively. I just can't wait to report back my fantastically successful findings here (right after I buy the domain name 'snarkasm.net').
Oh crap...it's already taken.
Is the AT&T smart wifi thing enabled by default? I can't remember. I thought it sounded useful so I played with it a bit but ultimately I didn't like the way it worked so I disabled it.
Still wanted some way to auto-enable/disable wifi. I didn't have anything to go on, but I picked up "Smart WiFi Toggler" which seems to work well. It uses location-based rules (based on cell signals) by default. I also use AutomateIt to turn off mobile data once wifi has been on for 1 minute, and turn on mobile data immediately when wifi disconnects. I have no idea if this saves me any battery life, but I do it anyway.
