Ok, so I think I'm on to something here, that I need to share.
I rooted my T.bolt, and lost data. I'm in a 3G area, no 4G.
So called Verizon and they had me dial ##778.
-Click edit
-type 000000
-Then under modem settings
-I changed Rev. A to "enable" rather than EPST
-Then rebooted the phone, and data worked again!?!
Now I'm concerned that I won't get 4G when I actually go somewhere with 4G. What are other people finding in the setting? Are you on 3G or 4G?
I'm wondering why/how rooting would do this to me. Anyone else experience this issue?
That doesn't disable 4g. Has something to do with switching between evdo and lte towers
Just tried this. Didn't work for me unfortuantely, but good attempt. I'm in Connecticut.
I did find something interesting....

Anyone have any thoughts about Data not being activated? Or at least not showing that way? Anyone else have the same thing?

I have T-Mobile version of this phone but I use it with Mobilicity.
Any time I go into a place that has no reception I obviously lose signal and both the bars and the 3G icon disappear.
However, when I leave that area and come back to the area where I had reception, the 3G icon never comes back. When I attempt to make a call I a get a message saying "not registered on network". If i go to wireless settings and try to manually search for a provider, the phone will only find Roaming.
The only thing that solves the problem is rebooting the phone.
I have Bionix 1.9 rom but this issue happened on stock as well. It also happens to another guy that has Vibrant9 rom.
On the other hand, other phones like the old samsung galaxy doesn't have that issue.
Any ideas. Am I missing some settings option?
Thanks...
I can only tell you I have exactly the same problem. Using it with Mobilicity.
Let's hope someone will come up with a fix.
A guess is that it has to do with the order in which it is searching to network operators after it loses signal. I am not sure how the phone is hard coded, but it is possible that upon reboot, it checks the SIM for which network to lock on to, but without a reboot it is looking for T-Mobile, because that is hard coded into the phone.
This is all a guess, but perhaps setting it to Manual network selection instead of automatic would help lock it on your network.
^yes, I think if you take it off the auto setting in your mobile network, that may solve the problem. Even though I'm with TMO we had a 3g outage and while it was on auto the same message came up for me, even after the outage was over. Set it to wcdma only, and I was able to make calls and get back on the network.
Setting it to Manual will just force us to do it manually every time it gets disconnected.
Not a solution, unfortunately.
Thanks guys,
Is there an application perhaps that will search for available networks and register on the network of your choosing once found?

Where you able to find a solution to this problem? I'm having the same problem. Let me know. Thanks.
+1111111.... i meant plus 1... but yeah ...i'm having the same problem... Vibrant on Mobilicity w/ Froyo Rom from Axurus <-- i think thats how u spell it
Anyways, this happends while im at home, sitting on the same chair as i was when i had the 3G...and then boom..............3g just disappears and doesn't come back til' i restart....
Have you tried setting the mobile network to "WCDMA Only" ?
Mobilicity doesnt have a GSM network.
hello all,
about two weeks ago a flood came through pa and ever since that flood came through the tower by my house is putting off a "bad 4g" or "h+" signal, which my atrix is forced to used, when i make a phone call the atrix drops down to 3g and i can get on the internet no problem and i can get on any other tower no problem, i called att about the problem and they said the tower by my house is in a degraded state and they don't know how long it will be before it gets fixed, to me it doesnt seem to be a priority since the problem only affects those who's phones use the bad h+ signal. I know the phone would function fine if there were some way to drop the phone down to 3g or edge as my wifes captivate works off the sme tower no problem. I have tried the #*#*4636*#*# option - gms blah blah and it didnt do anything to change the h+, i even figured out how to modify the settings under etc/motorala/android.phone/settings.xml to get the network settings ungreyed only to find out that changing the settings to 2g or 3g did nothing to change the h+ symbol, i am running stock rom 2.3.4 att, one thing i did noticed don't know if it is related but the apn's are locked, do i need to unlock my phone to force edge? those of you who have atrix and are able to force edge please let me know how you are able to and weather or not your phone is locked. if at all possible i would like to avoid flashing roms but would be willing to unlock my phone if it goves me the ability to force edge. this is ridicous that att would lock this option out. please help me as having no internet on my phone sucks
*#*#4636#*#* -> phone information -> set preferred network type to -> GSM only -> Press back button to exit out of it.
Do not attempt to change anything else.

i Tried that and it did not change the h+ down to edge and when i go back in it is set back to gsm auto/ are your apns unlocked or phone unlocked if this actually does work for you?
apn wap.cingular and set to use 2g only. wap.cingular is edge. hsdpa will be 3g speeds.
i know i thought of that too, except att has locked all of their apns they have a little lock next to them? any one know how to remove the locks or is this the same thing as unlocking the phone?

Add a new apn and select it. You can only have one active at any time anyways.

There isn't a 2G option in APN settings.
Hi, I am currently using the VZW Google Edition ROM 5.9 and have service and WiFi. My problem is it only connects to 3G, and not 4G. As advised, I have not gone into network settings, but I did open Phone Info and see that it is set to LTE/CDMA auto. Any reason I am not getting LTE?
Just a thought, but maybe you could check the APN settings and see if they are different than what you should have.

Thanks for the response. I am kind of new to this, where do I check the APN settings and how do I know what I should have? Thank you.
Do you have LTE coverage in your area? If so, can you use another phone/friend to double check if LTE is working? I only ask because we had LTE go out where we live.
Gir brings up a good point, I don't have 4G where I am (and probably won't for years!), but that may be simplest as long as they use the same network (although many carriers piggyback off the same network).
The APN settings should be under "Settings > More networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Names". On a stock ROM you have to get to the actual file through ADB, you should be able to see it if you have an aftermarket ROM. The settings for the APN will depend upon Verizon. Here is a good post with APN settings for Verizon, the first part is for Android.
Coverage could always be the issue as that has plagued me more times than not.
From the ROM thread:
Go into mobile network settings.
Verify that your CDMA subscription is set to RUIM and not NV.
For good measure go into the rest of the options and set it to CDMA/LTE, automatic, and allow data roaming.
Back out to your home screen.
Then go into Phone Info app.
Scroll to bottom and tap radio off.
Open the drop down list and select CDMA/LTE auto (PRL).
Turn the radio back on.
Reboot.
Upon reboot open Phone Info again.
Verify it is set to CDMA/LTE auto (PRL)
** you should have full service now * *
** if not * *
In Phone_Info(*#*#4636#*#*):
Try CDMA auto (PRL)
Then try CDMA/GSM/LTE
If those still don't work then your nv_data needs reset. The only way to do that is in the hidden menu dialer codes in a touchwiz-stocktype rom
If you destroy your nv_data and cannot get data back via the above you need to (stop screwing with your network settings)flash back to a TW ROM, enable hidden menu, and do a NV data reset via dialer code. After doing that make sure your phone is not in modem mode under diag dialer code. Until I update this section Google is your friend. And it is available information, verified. Your lack of searching skills doesn't mean pester my inbox...
I do have LTE in my area, as I had 4G before I loaded the rom. I do not have an APN menu under mobile networks. Do you think it could help to dial *228 option 2 to update roaming? Or possibly a new 4G sim card?
Anything about updating I would research first and be wary of... A new SIM card could help, but I'm assuming it is not the problem. Did you make a NANDROID before you changed ROMs? You could then go back and see it you still got 4G to make it evident if your SIM card is the problem.
FIXED
Just needed a new sim card. Thanks guys. I appear to be receiving signal bars with my LTE on the GPE rom as well.
I have an LG Optimus F3Q (I'm a keyboard person) on T-Mobile. Rooted, stock. I've noticed that my wife and I will sometimes be in the same place and she with her un-rooted LG phone gets good 4G/LTE signal while I'm on 2G. I went to the T-Mobile store (did not tell them I was rooted, they didn't ask) and they gave me a new sim. That seemed to work ... for about 30 minutes. Then I got booted off 4G/LTE again. So I went back. They messed around with APN settings and stuff, still no permanent fix. But what I have noticed since doing that and learning a little bit about the network settings menu is I can manually get myself back on 4G/LTE by going into network settings>mobile networks>network mode and disabling, then re-enabling, GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. (There is no "LTE only" mode for me to select.)
I printed out a logcat dump shortly after doing that successfully, but I know nothing about reading those logs.
Just for kicks I've tried adding an APN using epc.tmobile.com instead of fast.t-mobile.com but that one won't even connect me to the internet; perhaps I am doing something wrong in setting it up.
Anyone have any ideas here? I'd prefer not to have to go through several menus every time I want decent data service.

Just a piece of additional info: I've now noticed that I seem to get kicked off 4G when I make a phone call. So it seems like the phone is having some problem reinitiating its connection with the 4G data network ... ?
Hey!
I've had my Honor 5X for about a month and I haven't yet been able to connect to my carrier's LTE Network.
I know the bands match and my phone even shows my carrier's LTE network when I turn off automatic network selection, but I can't seem to connect to it. It defaults to 3G and the highest I've gotten is HSPA+. I've tried different carriers as well but it doesn't connect to ANY 4G network.
I have 4G enabled in the settings. There's no way to force LTE as Huawei has disabled the hidden network selection menu.
Any ideas?

There is a way to edit build.prop to force it to choose but I read it somewhere and now can not find it. May be someone can explain how to do it.
editing build.prop may help
search for this line in build.prop
ro.telephony.default_network=9
change it from 9 to 10
disclaimer: always do a backup before proceeding , and do not blame me if you did something wrong of if something wrong happens..
Reset APN.
I can't edit the build.prop file because I'm not rooted. Once I do root, I'll probably install CM13 so that won't be an issue.
What I wanted to know is why this is happening. It should connect to LTE whenever it's available without me having to force it.
Anyone else having this issue?
