cant get google voice voicemail working - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i set up google voice and then dialed *71xxxxxxxxxx with the x's being the number in settings>call>voicemail>settings but whenever i call my phone and have it go to voicemail it says to please enter the number you wish to dial followed by the pound sign, what did i do wrong?

Go into Settings>Call and make sure that Google Voice is set as the voicemail service.

Under voicemail settings in that menu, is the proper voicemail number set?

what is the proper voicemail #

Log into Google Voice on your computer and see what your GV Voicemail number is. It should be listed on the top right of the screen. Then dial *71(gvnumber).

yep, its correct and i did the *71 thing again to no avail

Hmm...that is odd. I didn't have any problems getting mine to set up other than that it couldn't do it automatically.

I still have the notifications from the carrier, not google voice.

First, are you still using the carrier voicemail? Reason I ask is that I had a situation where while I was in the process of switching my voice mail to Google Voice I received a voice mail and my phone had the notification that i had a voice mail but i didn't. Turned out that it was on the carriers voice mail so what I did was change the carrier number to my phone number. Restarted the phone and then logged into my ATT voice mail. Checked the voice mail and deleted it. While you're in there you can also change the notification settings. Can't remember which option number that is tho.

AT&T Voicemail Issue

I deleted the phone number that's supposed to go in The voicemail settings.. so my voicemail isn't working.. I am using google voice for now.. Any ideas on how to get carrier voicemail to work??

If you call att they can reset to default from their end. Or, at least provide you the number to put into your phone.

You can just use your own phone number in the voicemail number slot. Or you can call in and get your actual voicemail number. Make sure you turn off the google voice voicemail also.
I just get a buddy signal when I enter my own number.. I guesses I'll try calling att

Did you come from an Iphone like I did? If thats the case then at&t left you set up for visual voicemail and didn't change you over to standard voicemail. I was getting the same problem.
Solution!!!

Go to Settings in the upper right hand corner of the Google Voice screen on your browser...
Go to the Phones tab... select the phone you want to remove GV voicemail from...
Click the 'Show advanced settings' link...
Next to the 'Forwarding Options' near the bottom of the list... click on the 'Deactivate' link...
In the pop-up, select your carrier...(AT&T)...
Follow the dialing instructions to disable Google Voice voicemail... for AT&T, it's ##004#
Worked on my SGSII. Hope it helps.

Voicemail?

How do I access or setup voicemail now that I'm using ics
Sent from my MB855 using XDA A
I'm assuming you are using Sprint.
Phone settings, and change the Voicemail number from *86 to your phone number then you can press and hold number one to get into Voicemail.
The only time I knewI had a voice mail is when I got a text message from 9016, or some number like that.
you'll have to search the threads for a fix for visual voice mail (vvm).
Maybe someone else can fill in the gaps because i'd like to have vvm too on cm9.

VZW doesnt yet offer native integration with google voice. It will still work though. I have mine all set up. You have to type in a code to set your line to forward to your gvoice number when its busy or times out. This code redirects the call to google which then answers with your voicemail. I cant recall the code, i think its *28 then you type in your google number, ie *284105551212 from your dialer. The phone will look like its placing a call, then hang up a few seconds later. When youre installing google voice just tell it to skip the voicemail steps.

Just looked it up and found the following:
If you are having trouble configuring Google Voice as your voicemail service on Verizon you can make the switch manually by dialing all three of these activation codes:
*71[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Conditional Forwarding, which should transfer calls to your Google Voice number when your Verizon phone is busy or unanswered after 3 to 6 rings.
*90[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Busy Transfer, which transfers all calls that would hear a busy signal to your Google Voice number.
*92[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on No Answer Transfer, which transfers all calls unanswered after 3 to 6 rings to your Google Voice number.
To Deactivate the Call Forwarding, dial *73 [Send]
To Deactivate the Busy Transfer, dial *900 [Send]
To Deactivate the No Answer Transfer, dial *902 [Send]
thank you. with that information I easily found this website that helped me

Yes... Remember once you set up GVoice and do the correct forwarding codes, it will continue with every phone after that, until you reverse the codes again. The forwarding codes are not specific to your phone. They are part of your actual service. So if you switch phones, all you have to do is setup the GVoice app and change to Google voice mail in your settings. SKIP everything else., like the previous poster said.

Voicemail/Google Voice Issue

I have been trying to get my phone to change my Voicemail service to Google voice but it will not change. I am running the Base 0.7.3. Anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

Same issue here... no idea how to do it
Can't you just dial *004#googlevoicenumber#
That always worked for me.

I get the following....
"Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
Edit --
It's actually... *004*1googlevoicenumber#
And it worked for me!
I've had no issues. other than the numbers being listed in the call log are the Google Routing Numbers...not the name of the person in my contact list.
Go to your google voice page on a computer. Go to the settings. Under the phones tab there should be something like "activate my voicemail." It will give you instructions similar to what is posted above.
Thanks worked perfectly.

Ah yes. Sorry about the first pound sign.

Is there a way to change the number dialed when pressing #1 Speed dial key or voicemail key in the dialer from ATT# to Google voicemail #?

That sucks. It worked for me.
Did you encounter any problems while setting up the voicemail for the first time?
I had issues getting it to work when changing settings on the phone, so ended up updating the settings online, which worked for me.

I had to change online, but it only changed the voicemail setting for incoming calls. So if someone calls me it does go to Google now. However if I try to call my voicemail using #1 Speed dial or Voicemail icon on the bottom left of the dialer it calls ATT instead of Google. And I that's waht I am having trouble with...
I couldn't get it to work either but I downloaded the AT&T visual voicemail app from the play store and that one works great
