For the Fascinate, no. For the Mesmerize, probably.

I just ODIN'd to the official ODIN JI6 file, and i know there is a mod thread from eugene about doing stuff to allow back supported kernels to be flashed to newer builds, and i know that the BIONIX ROM has that already setup (and more than likely the FTW ROM from eugene), but how would we go about doing that for the new release?
Thanks!

I tried 3 separate kernels from different Samsung Galaxy-S phones (2.2.1 firmwares), all ended up in disasters. A couple times almost unrecoverable, for example I was able to get into download mode but Odin simply refused to connect or see the phone.
Needless to say I would not try again after 3 times. My luck can't hold out forever... YMMV, Your GSM Telus Fascinate may very well be much more compatible than my CDMA VZW Fascinate.

I am on darky's 9.3 final with a telus fascinate. I put it on before I realized that there was a vibrant edition and have been happily using the i9000 verision since 9.2.
In case you are curious:
Install darky's 9.1 (stupid i know but do it) using the telus kernel,
this step i dont know if it needs to be done but i did it anyway: Install rom configurator and install darky's 9.2 no modem no kernel.
Finally install 9.3 with speedmod kernel and modem straight from the configurator. Thats how i did it. I am using the i9000 speedmod kernel because i find the battery is amazing with speedmod on ext2.
I have tried the telus modem and the one that comes with darky's and i can not see a difference so I am sticking to the one that comes with the rom because my phone is working perfectly right now.
The vibrant edition may work and may save you from investing in buttonremapper But this is what works for me
Hello,
I'm trying to find the best custom kernel to use on my girlfriends ed03 stock fascinate. I only want to flash a custom kernel so she can tether her phone.
I didn't know if anyone had tried with either the ec10 or eb16 kernels running stock ed03.

Disregard.
I searched the forums, but I am unsure where to find the information I am looking for. If anybody can point me in the right direction, i'd be very grateful.
Does the community rom work with ED03 (voodoo?) and does the kaos gingerbread CM7 work with that kernel, ED03 (voodoo?)
what is the difference between ED03 and ED01 and EA28?

Are you referring to the kernel or the modem? I don't think either ROM will work with a stock kernel, need custom kernels. There are no custom ED03 kernels that I know of.
ED03 and ED01 are the stock Froyo builds from verizon/samsung, EA28 is the last stock Eclair build from verizon/samsung. Not sure if that is what you were looking for in terms of the differences.
That is exactly what I was looking for! I just wasn't sure which modem to flash from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097355
So it appears ED01 is the way to go for both chaos's cm7 and the community rom.

Yes, probably ED01 as the consensus seems to be there isn't any difference between the ED01 and ED03 modems. And in case you didn't know for sure (couldn't tell from the way your OP was worded) modems and ROMs are neither voodoo nor nonvoodoo. Kernels are either voodoo or nonvooodoo, and when included in a ROM, they are what make a ROM voodoo or nonvooodoo.
How come the community rom post says its for voodoo only, even though it apparently has an included kernel.

Because the included kernel is voodoo.
Is T959UVJFD the latest stock rom for Tmobile's Vibrant?
No, JFD is the stock rom Vibrant originally shipped with. It is Android 2.1
Since then Samsung has released two updates. JI6 and KB5. KB5 is 2.2.
I suggest reading the guides before you do anything. If your phone is completely stock you can download Samsung's Kies Mini onto your computer and upgrad to stock 2.2 via kies mini.
If you want something custom, check out the dev section but deffinately read the guides and ask lots of questions.

Thank you! I'll try Kies Mini and get it to KB5. My friend wants complete stock with root.

Make sure your friend doesn't have any roms installed or voodoo or anything like that before using kies mini.
also if you want root, you should look in the dev section for "stock kb5 deodexed and rooted"
Kies mini will update you to kb5, but it is not rooted.

Ahh makes much more sense now about the kb5. And kies mini worked like a charm and I've rooted his device with superoneclick! Thanks again!

I think Ka7 and Kb1 were leaks, nothing ever official. I might be wrong, I think the only official ones were JFD, JI6 and KB5. I may be wrong though.
Can these be installed via Rom Manager?

As far i can remember, ka6 was the first "official" froyo for the vibrant, it was available through kies (thought it was ka7, but now I remember clearly it was ka6) then another update through kies was kb5? Kb1 was a leak?
So 3 updates i guess

Ka6 and kb1 were the only official froyo, ji6 was only official 2.1 update, jfd was official retail release.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

Not that it really matters but KB5 was official and released direct from Samsung via Kies Mini. It did not come OTA via T-mobile but it is the latest official non-leaked ROM direct from Samsung.
