im currently putting a deal streak apart to replace lcd screen. just waitin on part. was bored so i took it apart and removed gorilla glass which was a pain in a butt. but my question was it hard to put back together ?? the ribbons kinda scares me on puttin them back together and what do u recommand to use to stick the gorilla glass back on since it was glued on and the panel covering the camera which looks like it was stuck together by tape lol
Your replacement LCD didn't come with a new glass already attached? All of the ones I have seen on e-Bay do including the one I picked up.
i dont think it does come with the gorilla glass. just the digitalizer
They all come with the glass over the digitizer, is it Gorilla glass, who really knows.
Second, if you would have done a search you would have your answer about putting the thing back together, several folks, myself included have provide information about taking it apart.
Follow this link for a thread with a guide on just what you are doing.
LCD Replacement
honestly im doin it for my brother so hopefully he order it with the glass on it. i have heard rumors of it not being gorilla glass sometimes. i used i fix it to take apart just waitin on the part to come in to install. i cant believe how cheap this is made with glue and tape holding some of the parts together. i wonder if my dell labtop is built the same way lol

Hi, Im all new to the forum but ive had my xda for about a year, I got it on ebay for £160 but after a year of use I've noticed the screen has become dusty. So I was wondering is it safe and easy to take it apart I think I can get the screw driver needed as I work at a computer shop.
If there is dust between the layers of the screen then NO... It's a sealed LCD unit.
I think is in between the plastic protector.
You mean the Screen Protector you installed? The XDA II doesn't come with a screen protector.
I have the XDA 1
oh... sorry
the xda1 dont have a plastic protector
but many people confuse the touchpanel on top of the lcd
with a protector both on xda1 and 2
a plastic protector you'll have to install yourself
That's what I thouht he meant firstl; but wasn't sure whether the XDA 1 was different...
There is a repair shop that you can send your LCD to and they will clean it and ship it back; otherwise, no you cannot clean it yourself.
Oh well I wont bother seeing as I will be getting the XDA 2 soon.
Hi,
The LCD comes in 2 parts. The touch screen part and the LCD part. The touch screen can be seperated (not entirely however due to ribbon cable) from the LCD as it is only clipped on. Using a very fine blade you can release the clips (2 either side of the longest side of the LCD). I would only blow out the dust with an ionizing blower as static will hold some of the dust there.
So shoot...my screen got cracked...bad. I had it in a case, inside of my padded laptop case, I took it out to read tonight, HUGE crack. I can't believe this has happened!
Has anybody had any luck with replacement glass for their gtab? I've read that some folks have been getting custom cut glass from their local glass store. Has anybody done this? What type of glass (thickness / type) is suggested.
I'd rather find an actual replacement glass, but am willing to try anything!
Thanks,
Pat
So am I just f*cked or what?! I would really like to try and get some glass custom cut. The glass is shattered so bad that once the bezel (sp?) is taken off it is going to fall completely apart!
Thanks in adavance to everyone!
Pat
As far as I know, it is not regular glass. It is touch screen glass. Call Viewsonic.
Possible solution
I posted about this a couple days ago. I had the same problem, hope it helps.

Gorilla glass and lcd are a glued single unit, i believe you have purchased the right part and it does have the gorilla glass attached.
You are safe
Yup. You are good to go. The glass comes with the LCD. I wont be too sure that its gorilla glass though. It scratches very easily.
Then again the original gorilla glass wasnt too shatter proof anyway.
I see a lot of posts regarding the unbreakable glass on anything that has the gorilla glass. I think the proper term is SCRATCH resistant, not unbreakable?
I think Corning needs to rework it so if you drop it on a corner, it won't shatter
I took the screen protector off of mine over 2 months ago and even as much as it is in and out of the pouch, in the car unprotected, not one scratch. The plastic around it? Now that is another matter
Yup all the screens I have purchased had the gorilla glass. You cannot buy it and if you could I do not see how you would install it.
I have been running withour screen protection and see no need to put anything on the glass.
I did have a screen protector cor months. I do not think it is needed.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Two Dell Streaks fell at the same time..
Actually guys,
My dad has a dell streak too but that one is with TPU soft case. Both of them fell from the same height. But mine as it was bare bodied, and might have fell on the sweet spot which broke the glass. The other one is scratchless. so now i understand the necessity of the rubber case, also it tends to slip without it from your hands which i have noticed it a couple of times. So lesson learned.. never get off a bigger phone from its layer (case).. Glad it is not an expensive loss though..
Thanks for all your inputs guys..

Buy a Otterbox Commuter or Defender case, the screen protector is crap, but the case itself is very good, should save you the price of buying a new screen. Does make the device quite big, but then its not a small phone.
Hello,
A while ago I dropped my S3 from about 12 inches, it landed on the corner and cracked the 'Gorilla Glass' from Top Right to Bottom Left.
It worked fine and you could not see it when the screen was on.
Replaced screens and stuff on Iphones and other mobiles so thought I would get a screen to replace it.
The said 'Genuine Samsung' item that came appears to be plastic??
It's flexible, I am sure gorilla glass is not flexible.
Anyone used these??
My phones get abuse so to be honest if a screen protector and this NON-glass (assuming it is) replacement works and won't shatter, I may use it.
OR should it be sent back to original seller with 'REFUND pleases NOT a genuine part'
How much you paid for them? However if you paid with paypal you can have full refund
Pretty sure Gorilla glass is supposed to be flexible.

Did you buy just the outer replacement screen or a complete assembly including the OLED screen?
If you paid £20 on ebay then it obviously won't be the original component, although supplying a plastic copy instead of glass is taking it too far.
The outer screens are all gorilla glass and, I'm told, trying to peel the old display screen off the glass and sticking it to a new one is nearly impossible - hence you would normally pay for both (£150?) at a reputable supplier.
Having said that, I doubt the plastic one will break if you dropped it again!

Nice! I did not realise that..
This was what bothered me. It feels solid and the same as original. Just could not believe it had flex in it.
Obviously it can..

Yeah! I know what's involved.. Just replaced an Asus Tranformer 300T digitiser. All though they are a little easier.
Just got my new Spudger also..
I HIGHLY recomend these. iSesamo - search for iero.co.uk website - £2 cheaper than amazon
They are great... Strong, Knife edged, and flexible. With a lovely soft plstic grip.
Will let you know how I get on...
I do not know if this has been mentioned or brought up before, but I just wanted to let the G2 crowd know that if they want to go the cheaper route and replace just the digitizer on their G2, it is possible with patience! You will be separating the glass from the LCD with a little bit of heat and a lot of caution, so as not to bust that beautiful LCD that these things are packin'. As you all may already know, the front glass is the digitizer so it'll all be replaced and your touch will work again, without busting the bank! This should only be considered if you're a very handy person with some superfine motor skills.
All you really need is a steady heat source of around 200F. I use a griddle, similar to this
http://www.walmart.com/ip/16451315?...56276670&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=34449323470&veh=sem
Most people have one of these laying around in a cabinet.
Get on eBay and find the digitizer for the phone and some LOCA UV Adhesive. 10ML is way more than enough.
Take the phone apart, then lay the LCD/Digitizer face down on that griddle and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Use a razor blade to VERY CAREFULLY and slowly peel the glass back. You should see the glass separating from the LCD. Continue this and take your time until all of the glass is removed. Then clean the LCD. It takes some work, this glue is extremely sticky and the only thing I've found to completely remove it is Clorox Surface wipes. They're the kind that come presoaked with some kind of cleaner. Even those take a little elbow grease to completely remove the glue from the LCD surface. It should be shiny. A couple specs wont matter, the LOCA has proven to be great at hiding imperfections. Next you will remove the LCD from the frame of the phone. There will be some connectors following through the bottom half of the phone to the PCB that has the charging port on it. Once the LCD is removed, add a line of LOCA glue to the LCD about as wide as a cigarette. Lay your new glass down on that glue, being careful not to trap too many bubbles. If you have a couple, no problem. You can leave them if it doesn't bother you, or you can push them to the edges. Next, align the LCD with the handy little lines that are printed on the back of the glass. Get something to hold it together, clothespins or hair clamps will do fine. After clamping, once again ensure the glass is aligned properly with the LCD. Then all you have to do is take it outside, let it cure in the sun for about 5 minutes, clean the extra glue up and reassemble the phone!!! I've got one waiting for a glass to come in so as soon as I get that I'll try to post some pics. Enjoy the savings, and the adventure!
add video replace touch screen.

Have a perfectly good LCD at home now with damaged digitizer and frame I'd rather use vs playing around with these crappy Ebay replacement parts I've gotten in the past month
It is not easy to replace but it is very easy to damage LCD, it's not so expensive to buy new screen with digitizer and frames (90-100$) so i prefer to buy full lcd and dont try to replace digitizer.
