Gorilla glass and lcd are a glued single unit, i believe you have purchased the right part and it does have the gorilla glass attached.
You are safe
Yup. You are good to go. The glass comes with the LCD. I wont be too sure that its gorilla glass though. It scratches very easily.
Then again the original gorilla glass wasnt too shatter proof anyway.
I see a lot of posts regarding the unbreakable glass on anything that has the gorilla glass. I think the proper term is SCRATCH resistant, not unbreakable?
I think Corning needs to rework it so if you drop it on a corner, it won't shatter
I took the screen protector off of mine over 2 months ago and even as much as it is in and out of the pouch, in the car unprotected, not one scratch. The plastic around it? Now that is another matter
Yup all the screens I have purchased had the gorilla glass. You cannot buy it and if you could I do not see how you would install it.
I have been running withour screen protection and see no need to put anything on the glass.
I did have a screen protector cor months. I do not think it is needed.

Two Dell Streaks fell at the same time..
Actually guys,
My dad has a dell streak too but that one is with TPU soft case. Both of them fell from the same height. But mine as it was bare bodied, and might have fell on the sweet spot which broke the glass. The other one is scratchless. so now i understand the necessity of the rubber case, also it tends to slip without it from your hands which i have noticed it a couple of times. So lesson learned.. never get off a bigger phone from its layer (case).. Glad it is not an expensive loss though..
Thanks for all your inputs guys..

Buy a Otterbox Commuter or Defender case, the screen protector is crap, but the case itself is very good, should save you the price of buying a new screen. Does make the device quite big, but then its not a small phone.

Well I'm kinda pissed my phone already has a scratch on the screen after 1 month and its annoying the crap out of me. My captivate doesnt have any scratches after a year of use without protecters, does the SGS2 not have gorilla glass? I love everything about this phone except the weak screen and will be frustrated if I have to worry about scratches on my screen. I hate screen protecters die to the feel of them on my finger tips.

Hi Black,
in every SPEC list that has been officially published and watching all the youtube vidoes the unit is supposed to sport Gorilla Glass...
Very sorry to hear about your scratch but know that it's wasn't caused by a metal object... It would have to be some sort of STONE or CERAMIC, kitchen countertop, flooring, bathroom tile, that would have scratched your SGS2...
Totally agree with the screen protector though... just very sorry about the scratch... Ouch!
It does have Gorilla Glass... but that dosent guarantee that your screen will never get scratches.
I keep my phone in a separate pocket from keys and everything else so it dosent get scratches.
These phones aren't going to be resistant to scratches no matter what they claim. I've only had my phone for a month and if I did not have a screen protector on I would be in the same boat as you. Cheaper to replace screen protectors than the glass.
Gorilla glass is a bullshiet gimmick anyway. I had a Motor-Atrix and kept that shiet in a lint-free cloth pouch everywhere I went and was meticulous in the amount of care I gave it to ensure it wouldn't have any scratches on it. Well... lo and behold one day I take a look at it, there are scratches all over it from who knows what.
I think gorilla glass is meant to ensure the screen itself doesn't shatter into a million pieces when dropped instead of preventing minute scratches. But as far as scratches go, that's a bunch of bullshiet. Whenever someone gets a new phone they should slap a screen protector on it as soon as possible.
Like the dude before me said: "Cheaper to replace screen protectors than the glass." He speaks the troof.
I don't think you know what gorilla glass is...
Gorilla glass isn't totally scratch-proof, no glass is.
The reason why people like gorilla glass is because it doesn't get too many scratches and is very shatterproof.

nothing is 100% scratch proof.
If you take a sharp and hard object and scratch the surface of hardened steel, you can create scratch. Gorilla glass is not as hard as some of the hardened steel.
I used my Captivate (Gorilla Glass) for over a year with no screen protector, only the bodyglove rubber case and never had a single scratch on the screen. It even slid off the roof of my car at 25MPH onto the street one morning when I forgot I had set it up there.
I now have the SGS2 and same deal. I have a casemate barely there whose lip comes up and keeps the glass from touching flat surfaces but otherwise no other screen protection and although it is only a month old it still looks like it did when I took it out of the box...after I wipe the fingerprints off of it.
A guy I work with has a DroidX that is over a year old and his looks like it was dragged behind a 4x4 off road at high speeds for an hour after he had it for 6 months.
It all just depends on where and how you use your phone. When in doubt, buy a protector.
Its got gorilla glass alright BUT so did my last phone (samsung Focus) and it scratched much easier then I expected, hence the first thing I did when I got my GS2 was put a screen protector on.. Gorilla glass's scratch resistance is a bit overrated..
wow, i used my cappy for over a year (~15 months) without a screen protector or case and never got a single scratch on it front or back... i don't plan on putting either on my SGS2 either. i guess i'm just lucky in that regard.
I had exactly the same mind set but my sgs2 scratched.

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, but not scratch proof.
From my experience if you put the screen with a key ring all the time it will still get scratch.
Gorilla glass is mostly shatter proof then scratch proof. the difference is if you drop the phone you may get a scratch but most likely not shatter the glass.

I don't know, I used my Captivate for about a year, and I assumed it would be indestructable with the Gorilla Glass and the Body Glove Case. Bad news, some parts from the top got chipped off, either from throwing the phone against the wall and maybe also the several times I dropped it in a parking lot and down a few steps. But through all of this, the screen remains scratch free, except with one really small scratch that only appears in a certain angle with a lot of light. Just wish the rest of the phone was as indestructable as the Gorilla Glass tbh...
I survived over a year with a naked Captivate with no scratches. My wife on the other hand scratched the back almost immediately, and did quite a number on the screen. She just throws hers into her purse, I have a dedicated, empty, phone pocket, and always face the glass in, not out.
The gorilla glass isn't perfect, but its better than others out there.

Go to Owen's Corning and read what they say about Gorilla Glass. It is much harder than generic glass, but it's still glass, and there are lots of things you encounter in every day life that are harder.
As others have stated, it's stronger but not impervious. Individual experience will vary. It's not that you dropped it that matters, it's how it landed, and that's going to be different *every* time a phone gets dropped. Some landings will be worse than others. Doesn't mean the glass isn't as good, only that you had a less "lucky" outcome...
Hello, does anyone know if it's possible to replace the Gorilla Glass 2 on the 920 with Gorilla Glass 1 or 3? The glass on my Zune HD was amazing - after using it for years I couldn't get any scratches on it, but on both my 900 and 920 I got scratches within the first few weeks of using it. I've purchased a screen protector on Amazon, but wondering if there's any way to purchase a replacement touch screen for the 920 made of another type of glass? Installing it's not a problem, but are there any retailers who sell Gorilla Glass 1/3 screens for it, or do you have to be an OEM to get Gorilla Glass?

You can't do that because obviously nobody has produced one so far, and most likely never will...also, your problem is probably related to the fact that the Zune HD didn't have oleophobic coating, while instead modern phones with GG tend to have it. Probably the scratches you noticed aren't even on the glass itself but on the coating. When you manage to scratch the real glass you can tell it by the fact that you're able too actually feel the scratch with your fingernail. Don't get me wrong tho, GG can still be scratched, no matter what, it's just tougher in general, so it's all up to your luck if you decide to go naked. If you wanna be 100% safe a screen protector is the only option, while instead if you wanna keep the natural look and feel of the glass while still having some sort of scratch protection the best option IMHO is picking one of those flip cases, at least the screen won't slide against the stuff you may happen to have in your pockets. You can either pick the one from Nokia, the CP600, or some of the cases from Nillkin which are cheaper and very decent too. I've ordered one myself, but shipping from Asia takes ages. I'll definitely post a review as soon as I get it.

Thanks for the information, I hadn't considered that it might be because of the coating. I got a screen protector for it so I'm happy Thanks!
Hello,
A while ago I dropped my S3 from about 12 inches, it landed on the corner and cracked the 'Gorilla Glass' from Top Right to Bottom Left.
It worked fine and you could not see it when the screen was on.
Replaced screens and stuff on Iphones and other mobiles so thought I would get a screen to replace it.
The said 'Genuine Samsung' item that came appears to be plastic??
It's flexible, I am sure gorilla glass is not flexible.
Anyone used these??
My phones get abuse so to be honest if a screen protector and this NON-glass (assuming it is) replacement works and won't shatter, I may use it.
OR should it be sent back to original seller with 'REFUND pleases NOT a genuine part'
How much you paid for them? However if you paid with paypal you can have full refund
Pretty sure Gorilla glass is supposed to be flexible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT8xI4PEU8c&t=1m48s
Did you buy just the outer replacement screen or a complete assembly including the OLED screen?
If you paid £20 on ebay then it obviously won't be the original component, although supplying a plastic copy instead of glass is taking it too far.
The outer screens are all gorilla glass and, I'm told, trying to peel the old display screen off the glass and sticking it to a new one is nearly impossible - hence you would normally pay for both (£150?) at a reputable supplier.
Having said that, I doubt the plastic one will break if you dropped it again!

Nice! I did not realise that..
This was what bothered me. It feels solid and the same as original. Just could not believe it had flex in it.
Obviously it can..

Yeah! I know what's involved.. Just replaced an Asus Tranformer 300T digitiser. All though they are a little easier.
Just got my new Spudger also..
I HIGHLY recomend these. iSesamo - search for iero.co.uk website - £2 cheaper than amazon
They are great... Strong, Knife edged, and flexible. With a lovely soft plstic grip.
Will let you know how I get on...
So I have a screen protector, spiegel case and a leather belt holster for my baby. I work in IT and somehow today managed to crack the screen. Didn't even have it out of the holster. It's just a hairline crack but I am ocd lol and it makes me sick to look at it . Is there anybody who has replaced the digitizer and screen by thierselves, and if you did could you let me know if it was hard to do and where is the best place to get the parts? Would it be worth the money to just send it back to LG? Thanks in advance!
(Still crying over that crack :crying lol
Have you already pulled the screen protector off? Many times it is the protector that will crack, but the real screen will be fine. My glass screen protector has a micro crack in it right now. I just haven't replaced it yet.
My iCarez 0.2mm tempered glass screen protector on my V985 cracked in several places the first time I took it on an airline trip. I contacted iCarez a couple of weeks ago and they promptly promised to send me a replacement but never have, so far. I have the old broken one still on and it still works, though sometimes I can feel the cracks and that is disturbing...
If your screen is really cracked, usually there will be a dead area in the digitizer. I hope in your case its just the screen protector, because replacing this display is likely to be expensive and difficult.

Just happy as hell it wasn't the screen
I find that the (plastic) screen guard that's provided with this phone is a major smudge magnet. I'm thinking of removing it. I'd like any feedback from anyone who has already taken it off.
Cheers.
UPDATE: I went ahead and got 9H Glass cover. 2-pack for $8 on Amazon. Immensely better than the plastic this phone ships with. I highly recommend doing this, even if you don't personally see a problem with the plastic cover. I promise once you see the difference you'll agree it was worth it.
So happy I posted this question.
Thank you all for your responses!
There doesn't seem to be an oleophobic coating on the display because they expect you to keep the screen protector on. So taking it off might result in even more smudges. Personally, I didn't find the screen protector that came pre-installed to be a smudge magnet. I actually found that it reduced them. I'm not saying the protector necessarily has an oleophobic coating, but that I didn't have a problem with smudges on it. The only reason why I took mine off was because there was some black dust underneath the screen protector and I couldn't get it back on without more dust appearing under it. So I just removed it completely. You might have to buy another screen protector of your choice that will better repel smudges to your satisfaction.
I've taken mine off because I scratched mine with a paper towel (like wtf?) but now I wish I haven't, because things stick to the screen easier. So unless you have an alternate screen protector ready, I'd recommend not.

Thanks. This is information I didn't have. I have a couple of other devices with no plastic cover; I don't have the smudge issue with them. But if there's no coating on the h5, then it's probably best to keep it on.
Buy a tempered glass protection, that's cheap and protect very well the screen (ebay, amazon, aliexpress bangood, etc....) keywords : phone name + "tempered glass" or "9h"

Had various of those. All broke either in my pocket or by a slightdrop (dropping it on the table from like 4cms high. It doesnt protect against smudges very well. Got a plastic matt screenprotector. Tempered glass is a waste of you money in my opinnion.

Have various myself, only broken one, on a tablet.
Plastic is not the same feel as glass on the fingers (don't know how to explain it better in english), and it scratch must faster.

Bought a generic 9H on eBay for 1€
I also have a transparent silicone case for the same price
I also bought the Nillkin 9H, but the other is still good so....
I took my plastic screen protector off the moment I got my tempered glass screen protector. Couldn't really remember how the original one felt since I only had for a very short period of time. That said, I recommend taking screen protector off for something better.
The stock screen protector is trash, all it does is act as a fingerprint magnet.
I did go to a Nillkin 9H. Wow - 90% reduction in smudges, and it is more sensitive than the stock plastic. Dropped the phone a few times, no issues. I do have an iPacky thin case, and it shows the abuse of daily use, but survives fine. It is also very thin. The thick cases defeat the whole purpose of our slim beauty.
I found that replacing the factory plastic screen protector with a high quality glass screen protector makes it a little better in terms of less fingerprint smudges and protection.

I have literally never used any screen protector and have never had issues. However, YMMV. I immediately took off the screen protector that came with it. I did buy a nice cheap protective case from Amazon prime. It has enough lip to protect the screen and I always make sure not to put my phone in the same pocket as my keys or sharp items.
using honor 5x without screen protector since months, no scratch at all.
bt the back side got a couple of scratches from my bike keys

I removed mine last night, can't believe how much better the display looks without it.
