I know there is threads about this, but I am having troubles, I will be willing to donate $20 to anyone who can help me. I am hoping it will be relatively easy............. I shouldn't have said that.
I loaded a bad framework-res.apk on my phone, and now it won't boot.
I have read DG's thread on recovering from the brick, but I can't figure out how to make it work.
In order to get the framework loaded I used root explorer to copy it over, because I couldn't get ADB to push the file. (I know, if I couldn't get ADB to work why would I muck with it....)
Now the first step in his guide is to boot into fastboot and wait for adb to work, then use superoneclick and hit 'shell root'
well, I can load into fastboot, but adb consistently says "error: device not found" or it doesn't list anything when I check devices. The troubles I was having before with adb were with pushing files, I could still see the device and pull files.
When I did the superoneclick step it ended up freezing the program, and I am not sure what is supposed to happen with fastboot but all it said was starting fastboot protocol support then did nothing.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can help me with this problem, I do have a backup framework on my computer and on the external sd card in the phone.
One thing I should note is that I did originally boot into the recovery mode, but all i did from there was reboot the phone (and go into fastboot mode).
Please help me! I have learned my lesson.

Do you have USB debugging enabled?
If you do, its possible to use adb by selecting Early USB Enumeration from boot menu. If not, you'll need to reflash using an SBF.
Come to my gtalk id texasdude11 and I'll help you out on chat.

from what i gather, it turns on, but won't fully boot into android.
by that token, early USB enumeration will allow ADB to work on the phone usually, but in this case i believe debugging was turned off before his device was bricked. so, he can't boot into full android UI, and also can't use ADB to push the restore files because debugging is off.
i've seen this problem with one person before, but i couldn't find a way to force debugging on without going into the UI, if someone can chime in with a way to turn debugging on without initial ADB access, or UI then this problem is solved and more than one person is helped.
Although - he can just reflash if he's on AT&T, if he's on Bell then he's SOL

Sorry, I obviously suck at giving info.
The phone boots but not past the moto screen, I get the flashing red lights and it reboots. I can get into recovery and fastboot (though I suspect fast boot isn't work right since it freezes almost instantly), I also cant see the device in adb while trying fast boot (or anything else for that matter). I could before it bricked.

NO IDEA.
Kenneth made me a script that did it all for me all I did was hit the space bar a few times.
Basically the problem seemed to be on this side of the keyboard.....
Moved to Q&A
Please post this script so that we may use this in the future
yes, please post the script toughbax or kenneth so that all can benefit from it, i already bricked and returned one atrix and cant afford to brick another. thanks in advance toughbax and kenneth

The problem is that the script that ken wrote for the OP only restores the framework-res.apk file, and nothing else. If you really need this to recover from soft brick in the first place I'm not sure if you have the ability to edit it the way that is required.

Hi! I am in the same s..t so I tried it all
some people managed to do this and get it working again :
-On the PC, i ran the command 'fastboot boot recoveryimage.img'.
-At this point the command says 'waiting for device' (or something like that).
-I removed the battery.
-I Connected USB.
-I inserted the battery.
-I booted the phone while holding the HOME key.
-The phone still froze at the first splash screen, but then suddenly, the waiting fastboot command detected the phone and booted the recovery image! Yay!
MINE IS EXACTLY LIKE THE YOUTUBE VIDEO and it didn't!

I've tried every key button combination, but all I got is that Out of the Box image (seems like it's the background of the recovery mode or smthg)
I got my phone charged from USB (from my notebook) but windows doesn't recognize it, even if I dloaded the drivers for it.

It is possible to enable USB debug from computer? I need to delete some file from the internal memory that causes the problem. I can't connect through adb at all.
I'm trying to fix my secondary phone (Garminfone) that that loads into desktop, but force close launcher and everything else. The only thing that I can do is connect to the computer for file sharing with the phone.
Thank you in advance.
I'm in a bit of a conundrum, myself...
I am attempting to do this, too, but for a totally different reason.
I am a VZW agent trying to extract contacts for a customer from a Moto. RAZR with a completely non-functional touch screen (no display, no function). Phone boots up fine, no sweat. Stock ROM, no backup :crying:, all of the typical means of transfer have been exhausted.
More or less, the only chance I have at succeeding is to either:
Enable USB debugging through some kind of shortcut or trick, or
Somehow, without USB debugging, figure out the user name for the customer's G-mail account (he has two, and cannot remember/doesn't use the one with all his contacts...)
Wouldn't be surprised if it's simply not possible.... but maybe somebody with a bit more knowledge can let us know! :good:
Edit: Hmm, not possible to run adb from the bootloader, but you can run Fastboot commands. None of those seem to be of use for these purposes though...
as mentioned by PhantasmRezound, It's not possible, However. adb is enabled in most recoveries. Also If the device is unlocked ( and you can flash custom recoveries ) in any way you can flash a custom recovery, back up the boot img. pull that off the device or simply put the sdcard in your computer with unpack that, edit the init.rc to start adb. and reflash it with fastboot not quiet what your after but might do the trick.
or
With the non functioning touch screen issue, If the device acts as a usb host, plug a mouse in and away you go
There's always a way.
Thanks for the input...
I appreciate the feedback, but the way I read it... it's either not going to help in this situation, or it's too technical for a noob such as myself and I'm in over my head

Never really tried this... but, I suspect, this won't work... not only does the touch screen not work, but the display is black.
I suppose it could be possible in combination with HDMI-out... but since the HDMI has never been set to "mirroring," I cannot simply plug it in and go (the best and only result I've gotten in this case is the red "M" logo on the screen...)
I would have given up on this hours ago, but it really bothers me when I can't figure out how to do something that appears to be so fundamental and simple...
Thanks for the inputs :good:

Well, I was thinking about this, and I think you can do adb in a stock recovery, should be able to create a backup image with the right software. It all gets a little hazy and wolly on techinical details, so I'm afraid I can't help anyone there.

If nothing else, you can do a Factory Reset. You'll lose all data but it will be running again.
Make sure the phone is charged up since this will take a while.
With the phone off, hold down left on the d-pad as you power it on. It will show "Wipe User Data" and then you can let go of the buttons. Just leave it for an hour or so, it will go about wiping and restoring system files from it's own recovery partition.
Also, random Garminfone blog with interesting entries to read while waiting on your phone lol. The person started to develop a port for CWM:

PhantasmRezound, I've done tons of wipes but no luck and I'm familiar with the website you posted. Everytime I wipe, I get force process com.android.setupwizard stopped unexpectedly on the phone.
@wolftou
Ok.... A couple more tricks to try for your specific device and then I'm all out of ideas plus it's kinda getting away the original question/topic
1 Android Safe Mode:
Android does have a safemode, exactly the same idea as windows safemode, only needed apps are loaded. This might let you remove the troublesome app.
How to get into it on your device? I have no idea and from my limted research ( google as always ), it appears to vary by manufacturer and probably device. I have booted my tablet into it a couple of times by accident but never really stopped to figure out how, that's not important anyway Just I can confirm this mode exists ( In some androids at least ).
2 Flashing an alternative rom:
Have you tried flashing a different rom? I'm not sure of your model number so I don't whether this is relevant to you but have a look at this thread it looks like you can trigger an update using a sdcard swap trick....
I'm thinking about buying one myself now... just to see what's possible with them, fortunately ( for my wallet at least ) they are not available in the UK and I've got plenty of things to fill my Android addiction for now

Hey guys. I was going to post this on the Android Forums, but the L9 board there isn't getting hardly any traffic, so I suppose I'll just repaste here:
Hey guys, it's loopy time. xD
I've been through XDA, again, nobody seems to really have an answer for this, or even an answer for me. There's this guy over there named Kuma that made a stock 2nd-init locked bootloader ROM based off of 10e. I don't really desire to go back to it, but I like the fact that it comes with the xposed framework which you all know is an easy way to theme things that you should be able to theme, like making the status bar and notification area transparent.
I made a mistake in thinking that you can install Chainfire 3D on a locked BL, boy was I wrong. Two soft bricks later, I end up on 10d then do the OTA update to 10e. I've got the LG Mobile Support tool working as the offline flash. So I threw d on there and it worked....until I decided that I wanted to enable USB debugging.
There was a thread where I was advised to use Fastboot to flash the U and X boots, which I succeeded, but it wiped most of the partitions. At first I was panicking like...OMG, the family is going to worry because at this point I thought I was hard bricked, and my father is ill yada yada. So after about twenty minutes of crying and flipping out, I was able to get the USB for fastboot working with OMAP (which is tricky to install!) Three bottles of Pepsi Cola later, some chips, and a honey bun, I was able to get back to stock 10d.
Now, I've tried various drivers to try and get this thing to a go for ADB so I could root, install 2nd-init, and get Kuma's ROM back. I tried the updated drivers from the LG website. I have tried LG drivers 3.8.1.
The issue that I am having is that I am unable to access any of the connectivity modes while USB debugging is checked. If I uncheck it and try to plug it in, everything works perfectly. However, when USB Debugging is checked, no matter what connectivity mode I am on, I suffer with the LG Software coming up in autoplay and furthermore disconnecting after about ten seconds.
I tried in Ubuntu Linux to get it to work, and the same thing happens. This leads me to believe that either there is something wrong with the phone or something wrong with my computer, but other devices work. I'm really confused. Is there partitions for 10e MS769 MetroPCS that I can flash via fastboot to correct this? Is there another tool I can use to do this? I pretty much know fastboot is the key, but i'm going to need some assistance.
Hope you guys have an answer. I sure don't.
Please help me with this. I am familiar with fastboot maybe its a bad .bin file?
Assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
LoopyD
Bump.
Anyone?
Had the same problem, usb debug and any sort of adb connection doesn't work. Kuma comes to the rescue like the super hero he is and helped me fix it. Here is the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49475336#post49475336 . Oddly enough this problem got worse for me I had it for about 3 months and it resulted in constant crashes and constant resets. Thank Kuma's post if it works!
Thank you sir. The ADB executable installer now shows the device. Problem solved.
Thanks

What happened was I was trying to root my kindle fire HDX with this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2689121
I put in "adb reboot bootloader" and it was fine.
After, I put in "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img" and that's where stuff went downhill. Basically my kindle just got stuck at the kindle fire logo, where the kindle is "silver" and the "fire" is orange with the gradient of light going across it.
It was stuck on waiting for device for 10 minutes, so I shut it down by holding the power for 30 seconds and disconnected it.
Ever since then, when I restart the kindle, it just shows the kindle fire shining logo and that's it. I can't do anything else.
I'm very new to this kind of stuff, was doing this with the help of my friend, but now we're both stumped.
Any help would be really helpful. If I could factory reset, I would, so there's a lot of stuff I'm willing to do and part with the info on this kindle. I just want it to be working again.
Thank you for reading this and any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Oh, and if it helps, I was running 14.3.2.2 instead of 14.3.2.1.
I didn't think it would make that big of a difference, but I definitely learned my lesson.

I don't think this matters... if the HDX 8.9 is anything like the HDX 7, the boot.img file is identical in both the 13.3.2.1 and 13.3.2.2 versions. I did a binary-compare when 13.3.2.2 was released, and they're bit-for-bit identical. FYI.
[Edit] However, there is significant difference in the boot.img between versions 13.3.1.0 and 13.3.2.1. [/Edit]

No, the root method in my thread unfortunately is non-working. I intended for boot.img to be flashed when the "fastboot" screen is showing. Unfortunately, the hdx does not go into fastboot like its sister device the HD 2013. Reading earlier posts in the thread would show you that it does not work.
But this is puzzling. Did you use a fastboot cable? If not then it was not my root method that bootlooped your device, and you should be able to get a replacement. If you DID use a factory cable, I can help you fix it.

Did you use a fastboot cable or not. If you didnt, it wasnot my root method that killed your device, and if you did, it still might not have been. It depends on whether the tablet's "fastboot" screen appeared when you used the cable. If so, i can help you recover it.
So...
•did you use a fastboot cable?
If yes
•did a fastboot screen pop up?

again i did not brick my device
using your root method
my device got bricked by an error in safestrap
i did a wipe data factory reset and this when i went to reflash the rom on the rom slot and it kept saying flash failed and that there were 0 mb on the sdcard i even pushed the rom back to the sdcard from adb but it would not flash and when i went to reboot it gave me a warning saying no os found or something like that so i tried and tried to make another rom slot and tried to restore a backup but it would not let me saying 0mb of storage available
so that's my story and now i dont have adb and im stuck at the gray kindle fire logo with only mtp showing but not fully installing but with a fastboot cable i got QHSUSB_BULK at first but after some booting over and over again i got it into QHSUSB_DLOAD with a driver installed on windows and i can see it connected to Linux as well with an id and everything in lsusb from a terminal that is about where my knowledge ends
but with the right devs we could get this working like the evo 3d and a bunch
of other HTC devices that were fixed that way and even get s-off through that QHSUSB_DLOAD mode but i dont have the knowledge to write something like that up or how to issue the proper commands in Linux or what partitions to write to or even the proper chmod to make so im stuck with a nice little paper weight as of now with no devs on board it's looking a bit grim for me

the only way i see a fix for mine since the fastboot cable did not help me get into fastboot mode is if we some how manage to get some devs over here which seems unlikely at this point but i still have hope one falls on a devs lap sometime soon
I'm stuck on waiting for all devices in adb.. My phone screen has a menu with three choices, one of them is flash unlock.bin. Should I keep waiting for all devices for how long in adb?
What procedure are you using to unlock? The WTF process is the one that I believe has worked the best for most people... and that doesn't have anything special on the phone screen, so I'm thinking you're using some app or script?

Yea, I'm following that one. I read somewhere about AMD PCs causing problems. My phone shows when I use adb devices. So should I be a little more patient or what?
No, the processes are quick. AMD Ryzens typically have issues, but it's only because of the USB driver they use. I've heard a few Intels have issues sometimes as well.
The key is, you just need to try other computers... this is the "hardest" thing to do, but it's really the only solution to that issue. The process takes under a second, so it's not a patience issue.
For the record, my older laptop with an AMD A9 CPU did the process fine... so, again, it's not a CPU issue, but a driver issue for the USB, apparently...

Some people had to use 2 or 3 computers. An older one with Intel CPU works best (especially if it has USB 2.0), but yes an AMD can work. As noted by @schwinn8 Ryzens are no go. One guy was upset because he had superfast gaming computer and we kept telling him to try another computer. He borrowed his brother's mediocre laptop and BOOM, worked. Another guy dug some old laptop out of his closet and it worked.
Thanks for the reply...i was just reading about adb making sure it wasn't something i was doing wrong. Even tried on an old iMac that i had installed linux on. "Waiting for device..." So..still reading and learning to be patient. Thank you

Also, try the steps mentioned in Wtf troubleshooting section.
Other than that you may have to mess around in the device manager section to see if the phone is detected properly or not.
(if there's a problem with the driver the device will show up as unknown android device or something)

You said "patient"... just to reiterate, this process doesn't take longer on a computer that says "waiting for device". It's a fast process, so if it's not happening within a few seconds, it won't work on that setup, period. Don't waste your time waiting - get another machine/cable/etc (check the troubleshooting steps to find other possible issues... the computer is usually the biggest problem to overcome, but the most successful).
Good news, i unlocked my phone and installed twrp, then i had to stop the process (wtf)
i still need to make a backup in TWRP and flash two more files from wtf notes. I cannot seem to be able to reboot into TWRP from ADB. thanks in advance
The oem is greyed out in developer mode and says its unlocked. Idk?
Glad to hear you got it unlocked.
In the WTF post it says that the developer mode may remain grayed out after being flipped... this is normal. It comes back after some time. Of course, you don't want to toggle it again anyway, since you're unlocked...
When i go to use an app to boot into twrp..it tells me its not rooted.

Used getvar..unlocked.
Well its done..used an old hp A6 with linuxmint. I found linux to be straightforward and easy when trying to root my phone. No jumping thru hoops and juggling stuff.
Any recommendations for remodeling the phone? Boot to twrp..roms..ect?

Bootloader unlocked is not rooted. It's just the prerequisite to being rooted. Then you install TWRP custom recovery and then use that to flash Magisk. It's all in the WTF Instructions. Also be sure to use the version of Magisk in the WTF Instructions, at least initially.
Thanks..ive got magisk from the instructions. It wants to update..should?
Once you are booted into Android, you can update Magisk to some degree. I forget the last version I had but I recall I could go to 20.x or something without issue. But there is always a risk of having issues if you update to the latest version... so be prepared to go back to the one on the WTF thread if the phone has issues. In other words, don't do this last minute or without a PC to work from... because it could fail.
The only time you have to use the old Magisk is during that first boot with it... once you're booted through, you have been able to update to newer versions. But unless you need some specific feature of the newest version, I might suggest leaving it alone...
I read somewhere..when i upgrade on US 998 20b, i need to move up to 20c?
Also, do i use the "twrp version. 20c"?
