it's been mentioned here and there but when I was looking I would have appreciated if someone just put it all in one place. a reminder this is based on the work been done by arkedk in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824711
so all credit really goes to him I just wanted to make a special version for rogers users that walk them step by step because it's really easy if follow a good instruction
ok first you need to use root explorer having your device rooted you better know what that is or you shouldn't have rooted in the first place!
1) inside the root explorer go to system/default.prop
and change the following XXXX-XXXX in the following three lines from whatever number in there to this number: 1233-6929 (DON'T USE OTHER ROGERS CUSTOMIZED NUMBER BECAUSE THEY AREN'T WORKING THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKED FOR ME!)
ro.product.name=X10_XXXX-XXXX
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/X10_XXXX-XXXX/X10i/es209ra:2.1-update1/2.0.A.0.497/8QFA:user/release-keys
ro.semc.version.cust=XXXX-XXXX
2)for pc companion
type run in the search then enter,a window will open
enter the following line in it:
%programdata%\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\db\
and delete the folder inside(it's a folder with numbers as name)
for SEUS
type run in the search then enter, a window will open
enter the following line in it:
%programfiles%\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\
and delete the folder inside(it's a folder with numbers as name)
3)last step go to SEUS or pc companion update and they gonna show you how to get from there
QUESTIONS:
Q:is it only rogers customers can upgrade to this 2.1 from 1.6?
A:No it's like change region post it's x10a rogers 2.1 version simple!
Q:how to root?
A:search for z4root in the market it's one click root
Q:will I lose my data
A:yes use your backup and restore program + titanium backup pro to make sure you lose no data
Enjoy everyone!
For those people who already flashed to Nordic 2.1 or some other 2.1 version wish to flash back to Rogers 2.1
1. Make sure you have rooted your device.
2. Install RootExplorer from market.
3. Use RootExplorer and open the build.prop in Text Editor (build.prop file is located at /system)
4. Change the following XXXX-XXXX in the following two lines from whatever number to: 1233-6929
ro.product.name=X10a_1233-6929
ro.semc.version.cust=1233-6929
Save the file after you made the change.
5. Go to /etc/customization/settings and open "cust.prop" with Text Editor, and change the XXXX-XXXX in the following line to 1233-6929
ro.semc.version.cust=1233-6929
Save the file after you made the change.
Put the phone in the flash mode and update with SEUS should give you Rogers 2.1 frimware.
Regards
I have gobal generic ROM I used the instructions from Nordic rom but it didn't work. I'm getting you have latest software. Do I need to do something else

Thanks for the instructions. I've sucessfully converted from Global Generic X10i to Rogers X10a. However, I had to make some changes before I got it to work. The first time I did it, it didn't give me an option to Repair or Install - just Exit.
Besides changing "ro.product.name" and "ro.semc.version.cust", I also changed the number in "ro.build.fingerprint" (which is also in build.prop) to 1233-6929. I also went and deleted the old firmware from the SEUS db folder, as stated in the original post.
I might as well say what "branding" it includes:
- Rogers splash screen on bootup. Now it's shown after the SE logo animation. It's kind of long, actually. I wish I had saved the old one (which was just the SE logo).
- Rogers "My Account" app is included. This app is also downloadable from the Market.
- "PlayNow" app has been replaced with "urMusic" app. This also appears instead of "PlayNow" in Mediascape.
- "Creatouch" app is still included (which is the only app in PlayNow that can't be downloaded from the Market, I think).
- Rogers APN settings are included and enabled by default. No need to manually enter them.

Enable Call Record S4 Active

This is awsome. Works perfect i just try.. Can you post zip with orginal SecPhone.apk to flash in case somthing gos wrong..? thanks
I installed this on Deodexed AMDL and it is working great. To norbarb, the original file is located on the main thread that is linked in the OP. Thanks to the OP for this MOD. I havn't used the volume boost yet, I have not need it.
I am on a rooted S4 Active and having an issue with crashing after the first phone call after a reboot whether I record or not.
I copied over the APK from ATT_Odex_Deodex_SecPhone.apk flashable zip to system/app after renaming the original SecPhone.APK and SecPhone.odex.
Like I mentioned, the first call works fine, whether I attempt to record or not. After I try to dial a number again, i get the message stating "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" and I won't be able to make the call. I will however receive incoming calls.
During any call, pressing the record button does not indicate any recording progess, i.e. the timer shows 0:00.
I'm surprised that the Active APKs differ from the regular S4 APKs. Could this just be a build.prop issue?

You might want to post this on the main thread (posted in the OP), it seems to get more traffic, but it is possible that APKs could differ, but I'm not sure. You could always compare the "stock APK" listed on the main thread to the original APK in your phone (hopefully you made a backup) and see how much they differ. Also, make sure the permissions are set correctly on the modded SecPhone.APK. I can state for certain that (so far) I have not had one issue with this. There are options I would like to see added, but for what it offers, it works well on my phone.

Thanks jrkruse. FYI, I posted a response to your q in your VZW thread, but since you do check in over on this ATT thread too, I will only reply here in the future.
I am on stock 4.2.2, since I am unable to load any roms (bootloader is still locked on the AT&T S4 Active, aka SGH-1537). I know this is the Verizon forum, but I think this is the original thread for record mod. Anywway, I am rooted so I do have access to the System\Apps folder with the ability to add\remove APKs. I've been successful in making other mods like the dark dialer/contacts/mms but at the moment I am bone stock. So at least I know it's possible. That's why I was wondering if this was just a build.prop issue or something.

Thanks, buddy! The Call-Record-Button-on-call-screen works great on the Canadian S4, stock, rooted, odex. It records loud & clear without using any volume boost mods, both on microphone as well as the loudspeaker. I've been successfully using CallRecorder with all my previous Samsung phones, but the current version having no support (yet) for the SGH-I337(M) is quite broken. This comes as a needed and useful addition to the plethora of all other optimizations I already have. :good:
On the other hand, I have noticed another post from somebody asking for a way to revert to the original state (should something go wrong). There are two ways of going back to the original state:
1. Before doing any changes, inspect/open up the zip you intend to flash (just so you'd know which files need backup). The "system" folder from within the flash-able zip preserves the same structure as the one in the phone. Now you know which files will be replaced, in other words you also know which files you'll need to backup. When choosing this method you should never forget to set the proper files permissions once the files have been restored - before rebooting.
2. Using the provided zip, make you own zip flash-able file - intended to restore your phone to the original state. Replace the modified (downloaded) files in the "system" folder for the original ones you previously backed up. Don't touch anything else within the zip. Also, if you're odexed, don't forget to include the original SecPhone.odex in the "system/app" folder in case you've previously deleted it.
EDITED Jul.15.2013:
During an INCOMING CALL, if the loudspeaker is used/activated BEFORE the the call recorder, then a recording for that conversation would no longer be possible - hitting the call recorder button will do nothing at all. As far as I'm concerned the only way to "reset" the call recorder and be able to record again, would be to (1) end the current conversation AND (2) toggle the screen On/Off. This issue seems to be occurring only for incoming calls - following the same testing steps for outgoing calls shows no negative impact on call recording. I have tested it with screen lock set On and then Off and also answered the incoming-test-calls while the screen was locked, and then unlocked and the issue was always the same for all 4 scenarios. I'll update this note if I'll find a work around. Please post updates/comments about this particular behavior.

Great advice, plus their is a "revert back to stock" zip available on the main thread listed in the OP. It obviously isn't the same APK that was replaced on your phone, but it should look and work the same.

Happy to report that the Call Recorder mod (menu button option) works beautifully on my Sprint GS4! (Stock, odex, rooted MF9). Other mods running at the same time are the v7.11.13 ktoonsez kernel, Xposed framework + Tweakbox + Nottach, and Viper4Android v2.2.1.0. Thank you so much!
Working with Kuban just fine with odex in menu button but ill see if the other option might work.
Ok just tried both odex zips and both are confirmed working with kuban rom. TY so much for your work!

I have no problem at all with the loud speaker. I can have the loud speaker on in an incoming call press the record button and all works good and vice versa i can press the record button first on incoming call then loud speaker and it still works fine. Are you using any volume or sound mods or xposed framework of any kind this is all that I can think that might be causing the problems you describe. Have you cleared the phone data in settings/applications?
for rooted LOLLIPOP devices just use this:
thanks to @ RVR
STEPS:-
1- Install the latest apk
2- Open any root explorer (es file explorer
preferred ) and navigate to /data/data/
com.whatsapp/shared_prefs/
com.whatsapp_preferences.xml
3- Add these 2 lines anywhere in the file but within
the <map></map> and save
<boolean name="call" value="true" />
<string name="call_allowed">all</string>
4- Then go to Settings/Apps/Whatsapp and force
stop it !
Open the app again
You have now enabled calls !!!!!!!! Enjoy!!!!
FOR THIS TO WORK BOTH PERSONS(SENDER ND
RECEIVER) SHOULD HVE THIS ENABLED AND U
HAVE TO ANSWER A CALL FROM SOMEONE WHO
HAS ACTIVATED THIS. ITS LIKE INVITATION. GOOD
LUCK
Only Lollipop?
It work on kitkat not4 but can't make call
It works only once...

Iam not a good thread maker so i will try to write everything as simple as i can.
Few days ago i bought and switched to A7 2018 from A5 2017, which was/is still an excellent phone to me.
On A5 i was on Oreo and on A7 i am and will be still on Oreo. Not planning to test this on Pie, but be my guest and try it on Pie, some stuff should work. Report if it does.
On A5 i made a similar thread to enable some features, but it was much easier to do because i had a CSC folder instead of ODM folder which has some files encrypted and you need them decrypted to proceed. And there is no flashable zip, you will need to do all on your phone, except decrepitng some files which you will need to do on your pc, and then put back and overwrite the same files on your phone and give necessary permissions.
First of all iam not a developer and i dont know anything about developing.
This is just enabling some features that were allready there in the phone through some lines on some files in ODM/OMC folder and some lines implemented in the stock floating_feature.xml file.
Never delete floating_features.xml file from your phones etc folder and dont touch permissions (0644), or your phone wont boot up. You just need to edit them and save.
Iv tested only on stock A750FNXXU1ASA4 OREO, which was only rooted and nothing else was modified.
The features you should get if everything goes right are:
1. Floating messages (option in Advanced features)
2. Record calls in (phone options)
3. Show network speed (option in status bar)
4. Data Usage Notification (option in data usage)
5. Camera Shutter sound on/of (in camera options)
6. ScreenRecord (options accessible from QPannel and Advanced Features)
7. S Bike Mod
8. Places option on keypad
9. Caller ID spam protection (in phone option)
9. LiveMessages in samsung keyboard
10. S PowerPlanning (Device Maintenance/battery)
11. HomeMode(screensaver option)
12. S Pen features( needed if you ever find working AirCommand).
13. In Samsung video options, but in option that apear when you press play on video,
you should see Video Enhancer option. Download Samsung video from Galaxy apps.
14. Multiuser support
15. Dolby Atmos dual speaker (works with speaker not just with earphones)
Anyway...
I f you dont know anything about floating_features.xml or bulid.prop or ODM/OMC folders and editing them, then dont try this beacuse I won't be held accountable if something happens to your phone if you loose your data or go into bootloop! So Dont Forget to Backup your Phone!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1.You have to be ROOTED offcourse and have a file manager like RootExplorer or simillar.
2. Now you need to copy from root of your phone two files from your contry ODM/OMC folder that your phone/SIMcard uses. It must be from your contrys ODM/OMC folder no other ones. The files are cscfeature.xml and cscfeature_network.xml After you decrypt them put them back in your phone and overwrite the ones inside your contry ODM/OMC folder and give permission 0644.
After that open in text editor with your Root Explorer cscfeature.xml file and on the bottom insert the lines that you can see in the attachment, then save and restart the phone.
To decrypt cscfeature.xml files follow this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/decode-encode-omc-files-omc-decoder-t3791471
3. Now open your floating_feature.xml which is located in system/etc folder and just edit/enter on the bottom of the file lines that you can see in the attachment, save and restart the phone. Dont do nothing else with this file just insert the lines then save and restart the phone. If you delete it you will go in to bootloop.
4. Now open your build.prop and on the bottom of the file enter lines that you can see in the attachment, save and restart the phone.
5. Now copy all files in system from the attachment and put them in their corresponding places.
Give perrmission for folder 0755 and 0644 for files.
Thats it!
I hope it works for you like it did for me.
Il try to answer any questions, when i have free time.
And if you all have problems doing this i will make a video tutorial when i have free time.
Does this tutorial applies to a7 2018 with android pie? I mean do I have to decrypt those files? I just want to enable call recording.

Okay upload the file. Will decrypt it if i got some time tomorrow. Easiest way is by using firefds xposed module. Youll see call recording setting under phone section.
So can I enable only call recording without decrypting those files? I've did it on my s8, just copied the csc code into build.prop...it will work on this device too?
Some more features if anybody is interested.
Its for Pie

Try going into a file manager, hold click on the file and choose share.
WhatsApp will be in the list and you can choose someone to send the file.
