Hey,
I was just wondering if the "dream" of having a working 2.2 rom with sense is dead?
i'm sure there must be alot of people hoping to get this for the hero.
I also understand that with the closed code it's no walk in the park, but with chocolate froyo Radug came really close. I truly wish that someone smarter than me would give it a try.
If anyone would give it a try at least, it would be greatly appreciated!
It would give a spark to the old hero if we could have it, specially with riemervdee's brilliant work on the .35 kernel port.
anyways, i will try not to be a nag. Thanks alot to all the devs around here, you are all doing a hell of a job and the rest of us all ow you big time for your hard work and effort to keep our heroes alive!
I believe the Villain Team were working on a 2.3 Sense for the Hero but it's very pre-alpha at the moment.
Riemers latest kernel works with chocolate froyo 2.2 but camera still doesnt.if your not bothered about the camera (i use my digital one instead) use chocolatefroyo rel2
I saw some photos of a new HTC phone with Sense v3 running on Android 2.3 (HTC Pyramid)...maybe they'll be able to get sense from that as they did for 1.5 and 2.1
Good luck to all the devs working on faster, upgrade, & updated roms!!
The camera is sort of important for me. I've tried chocolate froyo rel2, and it is a great rom, but still, no cam.
i don't get it, maybe it's because i'm not a dev or that i'm not that smart, but why are we talking about porting a ginger with sense, when we seriously need someone to fix the cam on the froyo sense roms? Wouldn't it be a little smarter to take one step at a time, and fix a fully working, fully functional froyo rom with everything, and take the experience from that to start working on a ginger rom?
maybe i'm missing something and that all that was just stupid...

could someone please cook a perfect donut for our lovely heroes? i really wanna try flashing donuts into my hero. cupcakes seem very boring and the sense ui is really laggy.
thanks in advance if any of u good samaritans cook a perfect donut for us. billions of thanks!!
I don't think this is possible as yet.
The problem isn't with getting the Donut sources, but getting Donut kernel supported drivers from HTC.
Until HTC release those drivers, which is probably slim given the fact that an HTC 2.x release is due, you are going to have to live with 1.5 OR a flaky release of Donut.
Somebody on here will correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi , lot of developper Jerpelea , Zdzihu & TripNRaVeRs and i dont forget Binary & Maxrfon & goroh "
try hardly to put custom rom for our X10 ,
strategy : why focusing on 2.2 or 2.1 AOSP : 2.3.1 is more attractive we have a lot of delay stop viewing the past :
Synergy : each developer work hard but alone "not enough fast" maybe the creation of one Dev-team & one project " avoid the personal conflicts" is a better way to escape from SE Curse they develop 2.1 and 2.2 is already in the Market
PS: i am very proud by our Devs , I only think that 1+1+1+1 ..... is better than BIG One
its a democracy but consensus is better

agree with u , all of them are proffisor alone but if thy work together we don`t know what they can do !
I support your initiative. I would love to have ONE great ROM (with full hardware support) rather than several "half implemented" ROMs like we have today.
IMO most developers here prefer to work alone (don't know if it's related to donations...), but it's really easy to see that if all of them join a single project we would definetly have a better and more optimized ROM.
One good thing is that Google seems to slow down the new major releases to two a year, so our developers will also have more time to debug and keep up.
I can only assume that they have put a lot of time looking at and understanding how the previous versions run, now they have an understanding they are putting it to good use and developing us a custom rom free of charge. To inhance our phones
I dare say they are probably looking at the gingerbread stuff now but you can only you can only do what you can do, there is no point stopping a development everytime new software came out because that way you would never have anything finished.
Patience is key, these guys do have lives, there is a order to everything and just because you dont understand it doesnt mean it is wrong
the dev's are amazing and i wish i had the knowledge to help more, icecream is coming out in the summer will the devs be expected to down tools and move on from gingerbread then?
just be patient and let the devs do their magic
My (limited) understanding is that since the bootloader is still locked, they are developing these custom ROMs on the existing 2.1 kernel that SE has put out for the X10. That means that certain core components are Android 2.1, and can't be replaced without bootloader access.
As such, it makes sense that the further an OS version is from 2.1, the more likely it is that it will require specific features not available in the 2.1 kernel.
So developing stock 2.1 for the X10 would be easiest, 2.2 would be more difficult, 2.3 even moreso, and so on.
maybe its true but developing 2.1 AOSP or 2.1 with sense take a ot of time and confir the stupid idea from SE Eclair 2.1 plus SE soft is better than Froyo ,
Creating a team will reduce time of developement and may be improve the quality of the rom build , my idea it just to say that and unify the X10 community in supporting one effective project thant wasting a lot of creativity & effort in incomplete work its easy to say the difficulty is to DOING the Job
Just a little bit of insight here from someone who isn't a developer of ROMS....
I agree that combining their efforts would most likely give us better results with regards to hardware. Here's what I think may be happening. Now that they're able to create functioning ROMs, they're each taking the time to hammer out their skills. When you learn something new, you generally spend your time redoing the same thing over and over until you've got it down pat.
That being said, they're each learning more and more as they attempt new ROMs. I think once the fascination of "Hey I got a working port of *this* ROM first!" wears off, maybe they'll work together to create a fully functioning ROM. Who knows, one of them may actually sit still for a moment and finish up one of their own ROMs.
I hope that all of the developers working on different ROMs at the very least keep a line of communication open between them so as to share fixes and work arounds.
speaking of GB

Yes! I Agree With You!!!!

I love all the dev here, but i too just don't get it..
either i get a working camera or working wifi ? Come ON...
i hope you guys see this posts as friendly talk, we are so lucky that we have all of you here you all understand the need of one functional AOSP Rom 2.2, 2.3 whatever
I feel the same way maybe the devs should team up and create a monster ROM that works.
I agree. It's been proven time and time again, teams work better than individuals. Please unite Devs! Think of what could be accomplished
I havn't even tested a ROM yet since their all incomplete, simple as that.
All the different ideas and "wishes" posted on this thread are of course appealing but until the bootloader is cracked it's practically impossible to have a fully working ROM on any other version other than the 2.1, at least from a short term perspective.
Correct me if im wrong, but from my understanding they started to work with 2.1 just to make it simpler to mod the code to 2.2 later.
The reason is that SE have released some code for 2.1, but of course not for 2.2. So they used SEs 2.1 code to develop the 2.1 AOSP rom. And could therefore much easier convert the code to 2.2.
It seems like you guys haven't been paying attention to dev work for the x10. Maybe it's because you didn't lurk the sub-forum since the beginning or maybe you don't understand what the devs are actually doing.
The devs ARE working together. jerpelea, zdzidu, bin4ry, goro-kun, maxfron, and many others DO communicate.
What one person said about having 2.2+ functions are strictly related to the kernal and bootloaders is the final word. Sony implemented special drivers for the camera and video decoding.
Until someone writes the drivers from scratch AND unlock the bootloader, we will have less than 100% functioning 2.2+ roms.
on that 2.3.1 HTC rom camera is working ... if they can get the BT and Wifi working it will be awesome . but i have a question . will we get the (MT) on these roms after SE release? i mean for 2.2 and 2.3

Yep.
Me neither.
And only because the camera and HD are not working

The htc rom mentioned by you is 2.1. That thread is for 2 roms. 2.1 htc and gingerbread. So no, camera is not working on 2.2+ yet. Z got some progress making the camera atleast respond, but so far, if he implements full camera function, he looses other key functions in the rom. Not a good trade.

No pressrue on the devs and they can do what they please with their work. But as other have said it sounds like a great idea. Any devs care to comment on this idea?

Hi guys,
I have a pretty simple question, why can't we get the camera on 2.2 Sense UI to work? I mean.. we got gingerbread with camera working, so why not Sense UI? And if we port it from the legend, which has a 2.2 Sense UI rom, would the camera work?
Or is it because HTC = closed source?..
Thx!
Yannick
Closed source, drivers arent working. Aosp is easier to implement, but camera has always been difficult.

So it HTC is making this impossible? I had my hopes up for the gingerbread with sense UI,(I'm not allowed to post a link but gingerbread with sense UI is coming soon possibly the HTC Desire 2) since the gingerbread roms without the sense UI already have the camera working etc.
It cant be "closed source" because that would breach GPL!
They havnt even made 2.2 for the hero so we have no drivers. If there was a working .35 kernel (fully working) then we may have a chance!
Hmmm so that's how they got a 2.1 fully working even before 2.1 was officially released for the HTC Hero? By a kernel?
I'd say, let's get this .35 ***** running!
They've been workign on it a while, just have to be patient
wow nice ^^
well I wish you, and of course the whole team that works with you very much luck
Im not on the developmet team for the .35 sorry :'(
I had to post this because the only to working roms are the Gingerbread ones and thats it. Did all the developers stop working on their roms and moved on? or can we expect updates on their exsisting roms?
There are some really good roms out there and it seems as though the Eris is coming to an end.
Hmmm the only two working roms are the Gingerbread ones? I beg to differ....
It seems like most of the froyo roms have been updated around mid-late January.. I didn't know a few weeks was the end of our eris' lives! Your right though, in the sense that CM7 is now the new popular choice, and subsequently the most updated/talked about roms. Also alot of our devs have moved on to different phones and only drop by occasionally here to maintain their work and lend an expert hand

xtrROM was just updated to version 5 a couple of weeks ago. CELB gets updated every few weeks. My guess is that Workshed and Tazz are concentrating on GB rather than Froyo these days, though I think Tazz is still working on the Froyo Sense build.
I think that Froyo has matured, obviously Eclair has as well, and obviously Gingerbread is getting a lot of attention right now.
Tazz is still updating his Froyo rom's, workshed is still updating his Froshedyo build, punk.kaos is still updating his froyo build as well as his GB build. New themes and complete theme roms are being built for cm7 AND cm6 constantly. Just gotta check the forums frequently and watch for updates. There's actually quite a bit of action going on in the Eris forums now a days, on the CM6 side as well as CM7. Also I am about to have a CM6 rom in the works.
Tazz and Workshed are perfecting their CM7 roms at the moment but are still dedicated to their CM6 roms too. There are some amazing devs here at the Eris forums that are working hard through sickness and all kinds of personal issues to give the people what they want. The 1st post is kind of like an insult to their work. Don't give up on them, they just have a lot on their plate right now.
Oh no don't get me wrong, I love my Eris. I do like the new GB roms its basically the same style and it makes it confusing which one to load on the phone. Zenexp, Energyexpress, tenzoRCmix those roms I wish were updated too. Especially those roms with apps2sd which makes it better for the Eris being that the Eris doesn't have lots of space.
But I understand these Dev's working hard to ensure that our phone become part of the whats new in the market on other phones. I commend their hard work.
just fyi both the gingerbread roms now have app2sd and cache2cache working. also, tazz had commented recently in his gingerbread thread about working on the camera for froyo sense.
Any of the 2.1 roms have been taken as far as they can go.
The 2.2 ROMs are almost 100% perfect... so no reason to update.
2.3 ROMs make the most sense.

OR... you could take those ol 2.1 roms and with the permission of their respected devs, and work on them yourself. Use the android kitchen to change some stuff n tweak it around. Then maybe YOU sir can update them for US!

He doesn't seem to be. KF last update was two months ago, and his GB ROM hasn't been updated since Jan 10. I'm not complaining about it at all, but he seems to be spending a lot of time working on his Fascinate ROMs right now.
I think Conap, Workshed, Tazz, Tenzo, and Zach.xtr are the developers most actively working on Eris ROMs right now.
Not so fast, Ranger Rick! They're developing on MANY levels. The Eris is still a big deal, okay? Okay
And now there is another new dev on here..... ME ! Put up my 2.2 rom a few days ago !

Started working on a CM7 build yesterday as well and should have it done by the end of the week hopefully !!!!
Thanks for the feedback guys. I didn't mean to sound like a jack, but you're right about the roms. I would love to create my own or better yet take a rom and change to my liking. But don't know how. These roms you guys make are awesome but its like I always want more and always love new updates or new roms.
I'm good with PSCS4 but not coding or even trying to create a rom. I would love to learn and create my own or mod someone elses rom. How?
I think that first learning app creation might be a good place to start, get the basics of programming down. Then try to go deeper with a ROM. Idk, maybe that's just my own idea. I personally am kind of in the process od learning Java coding to make apps and have a few ideas for apps. The developer of one of my favorite apps called Ethereal Dialpad is helping me learn. He suggested Processing. Seems easy enough.

Check out this post bro, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756775
As long as you follow it step by step and don't do anything wrong it's actually kind of easy. Once I got everything installed and running it took me about 2 days to get my own 2.2 rom up and working (very fast and stable if I might add lol) which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963722
Now I'm working on a CM7 GingerBread rom for the Eris which will hopefully be done by the end of this week. Main thing you need to do is download the Oracle Virtual Machine and install Ubuntu on it. That first link I posted tells you how to do everything ! Try it out man, gotta start somewhere ! If you need any help with making yours, just let me know and I'll help to the best of my abilities !
Great news!

this is great news and I am glad to read this! My Eris was my first Android phone and I am glad to see it is still being developed for! yeah!
The Eris is still alive according to Droid Life's article. We might get an OTA update. AWESOME. I still love my phone and love creating icons and putting ideas on it. Its just that every other phone is getting more attention and the Eris is in the back burner.
I'm still keeping mine.
The update is confirmed and people are already getting it. Justrelaxing on the Android Central forums has already got the update along with a few others. Here's the page, go to post #27

Well I have to finally break down and ask for a little help with this patchrom stuff. I have been unable to get anything going no matter what I do and what little there is for guides is on the vague side. It does not matter what phone you have been able to get it to work on as long as you have made it work.
I am on the Htc Evo 3d and wanting to do an ICS patchrom with sense. There was an active dev who did the ics rom till he moved on to jb but he did not use patchrom. What I am looking to do is update the ics version from sense 3.5 to sense 4.1. Now you might wonder why I would even care which sense base was used since this is MIUI but a quick look at my work and you will soon understand. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1819904 This is not your typical MIUI rom but a MIUI rom with Sense running on it also. So the sense base update plays into the fact that I add all the sense goodies back into the rom so that it is a hybrid rom. It has all the joys of the MIUI customization along with most of the Sense goodness.
Well any help anyone is willing to give would be greatly appreciated and if you are also on a Sense rom then I would be more than willing to help you bring this to your phone also. As of this moment the 3vo is the only phone to have this unique rom but I would love to share it with more than just the 3vo users since it is an elderly phone quickly losing users to upgrades.
Thanks
