I just got a Fascinate the other day, and my DROID X has a 3G Hotspot Hack from TBH. does the Fascinate have a Hotspot Hack? I need AP mode and wireless Tether for Root is only Ad-Hoc on the Fascinate. any help would me much appreciated. thanks.
(I'm not an abuser of tethering btw)
If on Froyo (make sure you're on a kernel with the dummy monitor!): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942405&highlight=hotspot
If on Eclair: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818789&highlight=hotspot
thank you that worked great! oh and I am on 2.1 stock rooted removed bloat. Do I need the dummy kernel you said?

No, the monitor driver was first added in DL30 (the first froyo leak). boland.20 is linking to a Froyo kernel, which you should not install on your current phone, doing so will lead to Bad Things (tm).
To reiterate: Eclair kernels don't include the hotspot monitoring kernel module, so they don't need a dummy kernel module. Leaked Froyo kernels do include it, and require a dummy kernel module in its place. The EC10 kernel source should have it removed before too long.
Personally, I'd recommend holding off on changing ROMs at this point until we start really seeing the benefits of the froyo source- right now we have only a few tiny kernel mods, but no really custom and fully functional ROMs (MIUI, AOSP, and CyanogenMod still have a large amount of stuff/hardware non-functional, but that should change in the coming week/weeks).
Hm... Kust use wifi tetherimg...

Is it possible to go back to the stock samsung rom after I have used a custom rom?
I just wanted to know before I do my first custom rom.. yea imma happy noob
btw, im looking into teamwiskey v3 rom but you know honestly id really like all this in 1 rom if possible:
1)gingerbread
2)overclock capability(kernal?)
3)wifi tether (kernal?)
Thanks guys for helping.. really appreciate it

You can odin back to stock!
In one word. YES. Quite easy too.
Overclocking currently is not ideal as the kernels use the Samsung Galaxy S International version code and that kills our battery. As soon as the Vibrant source code is released, we can see overclock kernels which don't kill the battery. For now though, don't use any OC Froyo Kernel. Use vodoo + stock kernel.

NeroV3 comes with JL5 kernel w/voodoo 5.0.4, which is disabled by default.
The SuperIO kernel is a kernel developed by eugene that fixes I/O lag on the RFS system, supposedly removing the need for other lagfixes.
Go to my thread, read the short writeup. Then watch my video tutorial on going back to stock from a custom rom via Odin. It is quite a simple process actually. If all you want to do is go back to stock, you can stop watching after that is complete. OR I showcase how to flash nero v3 w/voodoo Cya!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10207377#post10207377
Hi there
The kind of kernel published here are only stock kernels, which means the exact same code build by Samsung for Vibrant phones.
Of course, there's a difference: Voodoo lagfix 5 stable has been injected in them, with its extensions and also ClockWorkMod recovery as default recovery.
Voodoo lagfix converts /system, /cache, /dbdata and /data to Ext4 with optimized parameters for speed but also guaranteeing data integrity.
Also, it configures the write behavior of Linux to prevent lag from happening, plus apply some memory management providing a better balance than stock settings.
Also supported: custom boot animation, init.d scripts and an improved adb shell (new!)
This kernel also installs the su binary for your convenience. Only activated once you download Superuser App from market. If you don't want to "root" your phone, skip this part.
How do choose the version?
The best version is the closest to the one of the ROM / system you run.
If you use a custom ROM instead of an official Samsung one, ask your ROM dealer which one is closer
update.zip you can flash with ClockWorkMod recovery (not 2e or 3e) or SGS Kernel Flasher
JL3+Voodoo http://dl.project-voodoo.org/stock+...+Voodoo-Froyo-T959D-TLJL3-unsigned-update.zip
.tar you can flash with Odin or Heimdall
JL3+Voodoo http://dl.project-voodoo.org/stock+Voodoo/tarballs/stock+Voodoo-Froyo-T959D-TLJL3.tar
Note, please disable any other lagfix previously installed, especially OCLF-kind (the conversion to Ext4 would take ages)
These kernels are only for Telus Fascinate (T959D), sorry Verizon Fascinate pals.
EDIT: How Lame, I created this thread in the General section after seeing other T959D threads here ^^ A moderator help is welcome
Thank you!
Just flashed this and enabled the voodoo lagfix! So far so good! Just a note...I have SGS Kernel flasher and it won't flash the .tar, it will flash the .zip.
Quadrant score: 1517 first try, 1577 second try.
Just sent you a little donation, thank you again.
Thank you, I updated now the post, also to say it's tested
THANK YOU!!!
Glad to see you on the fascinate, even if it is not the verizon version.

An overclocked version of this kernel would be fantastic as well, is that in the realm of possibility?

Im running Nero v5 ROM which I understand is KA5 with the Speedmod Kernel on my Telus Fascinate T959D and its running superb
If I flash over the KA6 kernel, will I lose the Speedmod Kernel along with all the TWEAKS ??
With all these kernels around including the Voodoo injected T959D just posted by supercurio Im wondering whether which will be the best combination with Nero v5...Voodoo 5.2 lagfix is also now available so confused...
Question from a first time flasher.
Do I have to rename the zip to "update.zip" in order to flash?
Never mind. Apparently not!
ok so i've went through the threads here and pretty much got a handle on what's what but some are little outdated. though since i'm new, i've already applied the ED01 froyo OTA update from stock as soon as i opened it up and a lot of the stuff here are applied to older firmwares. so first things first, i tried to root using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790004 using the fascinateRootv02 but no go. i hear you can use superoneclick but looking at the superonelick thread, samsung fascinate is not supported? so if someone can point me to the right direction, i would appreciate it.
so with that said, i know there are a lot of roms available. i want to just stick to one that works well and avoid much as possible in keep changing roms. so what is the most popular roms out of the bunch?
thanks!

You are correct. You can just odin a CWR of your choice and then flash a ROM with the Super User package already in place and kaboom rooted
Superonelick (version...let me look here.....ugh... version 1.8) is fascinate compatible and I myself have used it before.
cheers.
** Edit **
To answer you question OP, the most popular ROM is Ultimatekangbang (Community ROM v1.x), Evil Fascination, and CyanogenMod 7 (Koas or CM7 by JT **Gingerbread**)
Quick break down
Kangbang (Comm)
-Community developed and updated frequently
-Most popular
-Comes with an overclockable/undervoltable kernel (up to 1.6ghz)
Evil Fascination
-2nd only to Kangbang
-Great ROM very clean
-No kernel (since I last checked could be wrong)
- Just use one of the PBJ kernels that are under volted for better battery life
-beta testing the LG android launcher
CM7
-Gingerbread (2.3)
-Camera, MMS, and BT do not function until a 2.3 official leak is obtained
-Smooth and completely open source
-heavily customizable
I use Kangbang 1.3 with the 100uv PBJ kernel and I see no crashes or force closing issues alongside 25 to 30 hours of battery life under normal use.

would voodoo work with kangbang? just saying because it seems like voodoo is the most popular kernel here. how different is 100uv PBJ then with voodoo? is there a there a one stop shop thread on info of which kernel does what?

odin a pre rooted rom... found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048380
again i say welcome and enjoy ur amazing new phone.. i prefeer community rom
So I recently flashed the OTA Rom and I noticed I can't overclock it, is there something I can do? Do I need to flash a kernel or something, also is it possible to change the top bar because I don't like the stock version, like change the theme but I don't want to change the launcher at the bottom . Sorry for the noob questions lol
Best advice would be to flash this ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227075 Droidth3ory makes awesome roms. This rom is based off the latest GB build as well. It also will include a kernel for overclocking into it. Also, he has an app called the "Candy Stor3" in his rom, which has theming options to it, if you want to change how your phone looks.
To answer your question though, with OTA roms, there aren't custom kernels loaded into the rom, because OTA roms are what is "out of box" state. It will come with the manufacturers kernel. Even though the version GB version is updated, I believe a Sense kernel should work with your rom.
Awesome, thank you so much
I put together a rom based on theory's rom listed above, then flashed a sense kernel for overclocking, n it seems to break wifi. So I'm not sure if u can o/c the new 2.10 base yet, may need a new kernel

You obviously tried dreamkernel. Imoseyon has the WiFi fixed. Neither have been at all diligent about keeping their kernels current so there are basically no custom kernels that are fully functional with any ROM base newer than 2.07. The lone exception would be Ziggy's, but you'd have to strip that out of Gingeritis or synergy.
I love my fascinate. But there are some minor things I can't stand about the phone, mainly in how limited some options are and inability to remove some stock apps.
I tried a custom rom before, frakenclean I think, and while I loved the options it gave me I could not stand the way the phone would crash. The phone crashed almost daily. So I went back to the stock rom.
I miss the option to turn the 3g on and off, not having the Is there a reliable/stable rom that won't crash on me?
Custom roms have never had issues for me, you might have gotten a bad build. You should try out the gingerbread roms, they have the best performance and awesomeness you can get for our phones. If you want to stay on froyo try powerwashed or comrom.

Hi SageDieu,
I currently have a Telus Fascinate (SGH-T959D) which is running Stock Gingerbread + Rooted.
I'm wondering if you could point me in the right direction to where I can find custom gingerbread ROMs for my phone.
I have yet to feel comfortable with some of the ROM's I've looked at here in the forums.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
The only rom thats not on xda is tsm pool party. You can find that on rootzwiki. Anyway imo powerwashed ed05 and com rom are the 2 most reliable roms. The gb roms still have a few minor issues, but most things have been fixed. I will be jumping over to pwgb soon as a voodoo kernal is released.

I don't think there has ever been a custom rom created specifically using a Telus Fascinate rom as a base. Just custom kernels.
I'm currently running Darky's Rom 10.2 RE , flashable directly via odin/heimdall
It's GT-i9000 based Gingerbread 2.3.4 with some tweaks and it's own custom kernel. You get to choose from stock Gingerbread launcher or Touchwiz 4.5 (launcher from SGS II with some tweaks).
You need to do some tweaking to get your home/back button fixed, but I find its insignificant to the benefits of running a (i9000-based) custom rom. I've never had the phone crash on me from normal use, so I consider it very stable.
I think the OP and others are talking about the Verizon Fascinate which is completely different from our Telus Fascinate. There has been confusion in the past which resulted in bricked phones so please be careful when talking about custom roms for "Fascinate"

Refer to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004314
Basically, you need to mopdi melfas_touchkey.kl (may be different in MUIU) file in /system/usr/keylayout/ to assign the proper function (ie, HOME, SEARCH) to the proper button key.
The thread has a flashable zip, but I'd recommend using a root-capable file explorer (like Root Explorer [padi] or ES File Manager [free]) to edit the file.
I find custom roms very reliable. Sometime more reliable then stock roms.
