Hi,
i have a Sandisk 8gb micro-sdhc. As soon as I snap in the card, it pops out again. Sometimes it lasts in there for about 5 seconds and pops out again before i close the cover.
Has the Polaris a hardware failure or what can i do? Shall I give it back? I'm from Germany. We can swap it with a new one, without problem.
I read about this problem before but I can't find the thread.
Have you pushed the card far enough? You must feel the resistence of a spring and the card should snap when releasing.

I would suggest replacing the card with any other MicroSD card to see
if the other one fits correctly. If not, you know that it is a hardware
issue of your device.

I did push it as far as I could with my fingernail. It made a click-sound, but after a few seconds it jumps out again. I have no other card for testing. I think replacing the phone is the best.
Or is there any other testing method?
Altough the card jumps out often from my Polaris, it fits very tight in my microsd->sd card adapter.

It looks like that your card slot doesn't work properly.
Recommend to get your TC replaced.
Yeah, i called my dealer. He says, I must return it within 14 days and there must not be scratches and I may only call 15 minutes, to get it replaced. But my 14 days are expired. Because of this, I have to send the phone without accessories back to repair it.
same thing happened to my phone after 1 month of use. Had to send it back for repair.
I send my phone back and it came back with the comment that it is repaired but it didnt work. but after i sent it back the 2nd time it came back and worked.
BTW: now my sd carrd is broken, i cant read or write, because it isnt recognized by my phone and pc. So, i sent it back and im waiting for a replacement card
i keep my fingers cross
I had the same problem.
I put one drop of superglue on the long edge of the card (let it dry!), and now the card fits fine.
Hi, thanks for the hint.
Btw: One week after my sd-slot worked again, my frontspeaker did malfunction ( it didn't make any beep), phone is now under repair. And they're waiting for the spare part to come.
Finally, my phone is back, and the speaker does work again.
Same thing
I had the same issue - Micro SD card not staying in the the slot - the first day I received the device. I sent phone back to HTC, and they replaced it with a new one.
I also have the same problem, but i dont want to go though the effort of sending this back...especially since the warrentee expired..
I've tried opening up the phone to try and fix it myself, but i cant seem to find the right screwdriver..
Does anyone know where i can find a screw driver to open the phone up?
I think it is a little crazy. When you sent it back, what did they say to you about it? I am having the same problem and need to send it back. The only problem is to be without a phone for up to a month. I am also having a problem with the scroll wheel sticking. I never got it wet or had any spills near it. I am not happy with this. I don't think that for the money that we spent, we should be having these problems. Oh well, such is life.
Such hazards appear in everything made in serial construction whatever the price/quality of the product...I can say Polaris had very few problems in comparison with other devices like my old Qtek s200,in every 10 devices one had a problem.
I heard HTC touch HD is having alot of problems too
I definitely understand that things happen. What I cannot understand is the way they deal with the warranty repairs. We spend a lot of money for their product and expect a quality product. Things happen and defects happen, but what my issue is, is the way they handle it. I first sent an e-mail several months ago and still have not received a reply. I then called only to be told that they wont even cover shipping for the repair and also the fact that they need to authorize a credit card to even start the repair process. They stated that the covered repairs are totally at the discretion of the tech working on the phone and that for this issue it can cost up to 450 to repair. Again, I understand that sometimes defective products happen, but I cannot understand how they don't stand by their product enough to make it happen without the inconvenience. If I would have bought a phone from a wireless company, they would have sent out a phone for a replacement to either have or to use while the other phone is being repaired. At the very least they would have sent a proper box with return shipping information.
Don't get me wrong, I can't think of another phone that I want more except for maybe a newer version of the same.
I received a Nook Tablet 8GB from a friend that has it messed up pretty badly.
I have tried option 1 on the thread below and was able to boot into CWR and install the partition zip, then i used MiniTool Partition wizard to setup microsd as described, then place the update zip onto microsd.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36492731
Once i put back into nook and boot up it goes to call customer service.
I also tried the following method here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1663836
I get the green check mark and after reboot i get call customer service.
Again, im not sure what was done to this device before. Just trying to fix it for a friend. Is there anything else i can do?
Should i be using this method?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1570022
So im assuming there is no hope since there is no response? I see many threads of bricked NT's so im assuming this sort of this is quite common and thats the reason for the lack of response to this thread.
I have worked with android for 2 years now and never bricked a device. I just find it hard to believe this nook tablet cannot be repaired. But again, i have no idea what was done to it.
"Bricked" is a very loose term: without knowing more what's wrong and/or what was done with a tablet it's hard to suggest how to really fix it. Applying a wrong fix often makes the problem worse rather than better.
But it's not necessarily a total loss: until you can figure how to fix it you might try to run CM10 off an SDcard: see http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/, or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2061536.
Not sure how i missed that thread but that worked great!
i was about to throw in the towel and you blessed me with that great info. Thank you so much!
I do have one question. got everything setup but when i start the tablet without usb cable plugged in it won't boot. gives me the call customer service msg. Do i have to have usb plugged in everytime i want to boot up now?
Try holding the "n" button when you power up. Press power and at that very first flicker after a few seconds, press and hold n.

Try what Asa suggested above, if it doesn't work then your friend's NT is like mine and many others' -- they only boot into SD with a cold boot and using a powered USB cable. Some people deem this "USB-tethered boot" behavior a manufacturing defect, but it might very well be by design by B&N to discourage people from venturing outside their content wall-garden with easy-to-use 3rd-party ROMs.
Hello guys!
For about 2 or 3 weeks now I have the problem that the speaker on my TF201 does not work anymore. Headphones are working fine.
It also does not recognize any USB Sticks anymore. The Dock is not dead, it works fine and also has current on the USB Port (the USB stick LED is activated but does not blink for accessing it). Also the SD Card slot does not work anymore. The MicroSD slot on the tablet itself works fine...
And the next thing: My PC does not recognize the tablet anymore when I connect it. It does load when I connect it to the adapter but I can't transfer files anymore via PC. Cable is not broken but to minimize this risk I already offered a new one just in case.
Do you guys have any idea what this maybe is caused from? Maybe broken hardware? Or maybe a not properly connected cable in the tablet? But if so why is USB and stuff not working?
Please help me, I don't wanna lose such an awesome tablet
And I may can't even RMA it cause I've unlocked and flashed a new ROM on it...
EDIT 12.06.2013: When the tablet is fully turned off and USB is plugged in (PC, not charger) it suddenly powers up. I still can't use USB ports...

Do you have one of the Prime to USb connectors? I wonder if the issue is in the dock or the tablet connector.

Sadly no. I never ever would have used that cause I have the dock. And Dock can't be broken, the problem appeared since the speaker is not working too.
I tested MicroHDMI output now. Works fine, audio is there too. Hm... Strange...
Hidden "Camera Version" function?
Sorry, wrong thread ^-^" Please delete this entry!
My first guess is that something may have gotten disconnected inside the Prime. It's unlikely, but worth a check. Have you ever opened your prime?
When you have a dock, you have two options of connecting it to your PC. You can put the Prime into the dock then connect the two to your PC or you can just set the dock aside and connect the Prime directly. Have you tried both ways?

Jup I tried both ways.
And no I never opened it up. May I should look for a tutorial. Does iFixIt have an tutorial for it?
I don't think that iFixIt has one. At least they didn't about 6 months ago when I needed to replace my glass. There should be links to tutorials buried in these forums. Also, a little Googling should find you something too.
Regarding the HDMI audio working: Not too much of a surprise. Remember that the micro-hdmi port is sending a data stream with the audio embedded/encoded as 1s and 0s. It seems like something may have (hopefully) come disconnected related to the built-in speaker.

I opened it up but I saw no unconnected or partly connected cable. I only lifted up the touchscreen, about the other parts I was too afraid to ruin something... Didn't unscrew so I wasn't able to see the under connectors.
Anyway, I don't think it's an unconnected cable. But if it's a software fault why are suddenly without flashing anything like Kernel or Bootloader so many things not working? That's just... What the hell o-O
Also I don't want to RMA it again. It's flashed and unlocked so I may have to pay 100€ for it... I could easily spend that money on a Galaxy Tab or something. But would still be awesome to have that one as "backup tablet" then just in case so I don't want to just throw it away.
Good on ya for taking a look. If you disconnect the robbon cables that connect the digitizer and LCD to the mainboard, you can set the top part (the screen and glass) aside and take a much better look. I completly understand your reluctance for fear of damaging. I felt the same way when I took mine apart the first time to replace the digitizer glass.
In devices like this, the headphones and the built-in speaker have separate amplifiers. They're not like very old transistor radios where the headphone jack is connected to the speaker wires with an interlock. I found this out when my Viewsonic 4.5" video player had digitally garbled sound in the headphones but not in the built-in speakers. Weirdest thing that I wouldn't expect being old-school...
The upshot is that you simply may have failed components, which is a real bummer since these are (imho) still pretty sweeet tablets.
You *could* always contact ASUS support and describe the problem and see if they can share any familiarity or knowledge with you. Sadly, I've found ASUS support to be bag-of-hammers dumb and patently useless, despite having a decent product.

Opened up again, tried to push a few connectors in a bit but nothing... Looks like I really have a hardware failure...
But what now? When I send it to ASUS (or the shop where I bought it) they might say "Nope, you opened that thing". Also flashing back Stock ROM is... Yeah... Many work... I already was on the 4.1.2 Bootloader, upgraded to 4.2.1 now. I don't know how seriously they take that whole hacking/flashing thing, maybe they even repair a flashed tablet.
I dont know if it helps anyone further pin-point the problem because i havent been able to but i have the same issues and for me the sound comes back once i have the screen separated from the tablet. i can restart the tablet many times and audio still works as long as the screen is not fully in its place. If i clip the screen back in its place audio still works until i turn off or restart the tablet.

Hello i've got the same problem and i'm praying someone can help.
Since updating from Androwook Hairy Bean V2.11 to V2.2 RC1;
there is no sound from the external speaker; playing media, notifications, alarms etc
dock doesnt recognise usb stick
pc doesnt recognize the tablet
on V2.2 RC1 i got the update pad firmware message and i accepted it, not sure if this is the cause because others have done the sam and reported everything working fine.
Also starting getting a notification on startup "unable to detect driver for loudspeaker" on V2.2 RC1. So i downgraded to Hairy Bean V2.11 thinking it would solve the issue but it hasn't, nothings changed.
I've tried a factory reset, cold boot, downloaded dsp manager and not been successful.
Has anyone come across this problem and found a solution?
Please help me
Thanks

That is very strange mate.
The firmware update was just for the pad and if it had already installed on 2.11 and was working fine then that was done. The only person who ever had a problem with it happened as he was installing it and we fixed that.
Upgrading to 2.2 changed nothing from 2.11 except a slightly newer base and some newer kernels. Even if the kernels were not supporting your hardware when you downgraded back to 2.11 you would have been back on the old kernels and back to how you had it working before.
This does confuse me.. As a test because I cannot think of anything else except hardware failure at the moment can you try getting the downgrade zip from the hairybean thread that takes you back to 4.1.1 bootloader and compatible twrp and then try flashing hairybean 1.51 instead.
Read the instructions thoroughly under the downgrading section.

Thanks for the assistance Flumpster and I've been following your thread, you've done some damn amazing work!
Just for the record 2.11 + that kernel had my prime running the best it ever has! after doing all the wipes, formats I flashed v2.2 and got the update pad firmware then and missing speaker driver notification? I dismantled my prime and checked for a loose connection on the speaker but it looks ok.
I'll try the downgrade tomorrow (going to bed now) and if that doesn't work, i still have audio through the headphone jack.
Thanks again

Ok mate.. Well try the downgrade option first and if that doesn't work then first of all I want you to drain your battery completely and leave for an hour. After that charge it up a little and try ( I know this sounds crazy and I thought the same when I first read it in another thread but it fixed our one guy who had problems with the firmware upgrade )
If this still does not work then upgrade back to 2.2 and once you are in the OS I will try to talk you into downgrading that firmware update to see if that helps.
If that still doesn't work after downgrading the firmware update then it is hardware sorry.

ok micro sd card was coming up write protected, so formated and downloaded new files and managed to downgrade to 4.1.1 bootloader and v1.51 - still no sound from external speaker, also sd slot and usb still not working on dock. Tried running the battery flat and leaving it for over an hour then charged a little and powered on still no change.
I'm leaving work now and have limited internet access tonight so i download the v2.2 zip tomorrow and see if that works, otherwise could be hardware hey.
Hi Guys,
Once again, my apologies if these queries have been already answered in another thread that I have missed but here goes.....another essay <g>
1. I recently successfully rooted my TF201 with instructional help read from this forum (and even donated a few bucks to Sparky for his great work). However, when I (often) reboot my Prime, it still only says "Your device is unlocked" in the top left-hand corner, and nothing else - is that normal? After that, it boots normally. When I press the power switch at the top of the device to turn it off, the only option I'm given is 'Close down device', but nothing else, like restart device. Is this right or is there a way to change that, to add more options?
2. For safety reasons, I understand it is advisable to make nvflash backups to prevent my Prime ever bricking. Can one of the decent people here please point me in the direction of the best thread for the easiest way to do this, so I don't make a balls-up?
3. Are there any benefits and/or pitfalls of upgrading from my ICS 4.03 to Jellybean or better to leave it on ICS? (I'm getting sick and tired of the oh-so-frequent full-screen reminders to upgrade that I always hit the POSTPONE button).
Is there ANY way to DISable that dang notification?!?!?!?
4. Lately, the stock launcher has been frequently stopped responding and usually has needed a reboot to get anything working. Is this normal and is there a good way to fix it. I'm assuming it's a memory-management issue. In your valued and learned opinion, which are the best memory optimizers and task-killers available?? And likewise, are there any apps. including launchers that should be avoided like the plague (I have about 5 different launchers installed (Next, GO, SPB etc)?
5. How would you rate CyanogenMOD 10.1? Is it worth the flash?
6. Also lately, whilst trying many many games, the screen has started flickering and the game has stopped responding. Is there a fix for this or is it a common fault that many of you have experienced? I don't know what's causing it, but a solution would be greatly appreciated.
7. Is there ANY way to speed up my TF201 and get launcher to stop responding so often??
8. My TF201 takes almost 3 minutes from pressing the power button to reaching the lock screen - is this normal and is there any way to speed it up?
9. Last one for now, is the TF201 capable of using a 128GB SD card in either one or both of the SD card slots, and if so, can someone honestly recommend the best brand and type of SD card to buy? Sandisk or Kingston perhaps?
Ok, hope someone has time, patience and can make the effort to be able to answer my questions (without trolling).
Thanks in advance, always.

7. Upgrade from ICS.
8. Mine takes about 20 seconds.
9. I don't use sdcards in the dock just the micro sd on the tablet itself and I use 64gig Sandisk UHS-1 class 10.
Trolllolololol.

(1.) Thanks for taking the time out to reply, flumpster, my Prime seems to have settled down a bit now and things are running smoother, although still not perfect (too much installed and running in the background probably (and hence the long boot-time)). I now use an app named 'Quick Boot' to give me more shutdown options without the need yet to install a custom ROM.
(2.) Thanks for the link that I already had, but certain stages of that process seem more inclined to working with Linux to make nvflash backups, no? I wish there was an app that would make this a process not requiring 'nerves of steel' or more Windows 7-friendly (is there?)
(3.) Don't get me wrong buddy, I would upgrade to Jellybean yesterday if and when I'd made nvflash backups first, as that is the only reason delaying my upgrade (the NEED for an unbrickable device!!)
(4.) I've cut down on memory-optimizers and now only have 4 launchers installed - Good, eh? =o)
(5.) All things will be achieved in good time.
(6.) Could be, but it usually settles down after a reboot - no worries.
(7.) Things are gradually improving through experimentation and YES, I WILL upgrade from ICS if and when I get this nvflash backup issue resolved.
(8.) Patience is a virtue.
(9.) Still only using my old 32GB Micro-SD card in the tablet (soon to be upgraded to 64GB SanDisk Ultra Android MicroSDXC Class 10), but now also using a 128GB Class 10 SDXC-card in the dock too. Directory-Bind is working fine with both cards, so no complaints there.
Never take a troll seriously (or personally, for that matter).
Respect!
Hi all,
About a month ago, I dropped my Asus Memo FHD 10. It only looked like it cracked the screen in the bottom corner where it hit the ground, but it seems there is some other internal weirdness going on. Anyway, I bought a new one and was wondering how hard it was to open them up and pull the drive out of the old one and stick it in the new one? Is that even possible? Would it just boot up since the hardware should essentially be the same? Just the old one was already rooted and I had everything setup the way I like it. Hate to have to go through all that again. Any help or tips would be appreciated. -Thanks-

Theoretically it's possible but it requires some electronics knowledge etc. I would love to see someone do it.
Also there is always the risk of ruining your new device as well so even if you knew how to do it and you wanted to risk it I wouldn't advice it. Unfortunately the only safe way is to go through all that process again (root etc.).
