Hi,
I have found a weird problem on my toshiba folio 100
I'm using the toshiba rom (latest version, no mods) and i did install/uninstall quite some apps.
At a certain time, I tried reinstalling an app. It installed, but failed to run. As i'm also developing a bit, i checked the behaviour of adb logcat. Here I saw that the uid that tha app gets was not the one that was requested (I leave the details). I temporary rooted the device with psneuter to see what was going on, and I have noticed the following:
- at uninstall time, the app storage folder in /data/data is not removed
- The storage size in "manage applications" is almost always around 10 Kb, altough several apps have 10mb of data in there
- because the folder is not removed (logcat "couldnt remove /data/data/appname"), it is reused after reinstalling an app. If the userid is already used by another app, it will get a new uid, but fail to access its internal storage. The new uid has no access to the old folder which has still permisions on the old uid.
This is not happening in the 2.2 rom of the dev emulator (This one cleans correctly).
Is there anyone else with this issue? Is it a folio bug or did I do something (or an app) to cause this?
Just to check:
Is there anyone that has an application under "Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> <App>" - Storage - Data that report more than 20Kb? (e.g. a mail app that has enough data). This with recent stock rom.
I have the impression that some library call is missing or not working (but again, I don't know the cause).
I also see a lot of messages in the adb logcat reporting unknown permissions, mostly related to "vending"... (android market is not on the tablet...)

Hi
I will be passing on my company phone for someone else to use for couple of weeks, and I am having some privacy concerns about it. I have already transferred all images/videos from the phone's ext SD card, but now I am worried of how I can securely erase the data. I don't wanna buy a new SD card just for this, so I was wondering if there is any way to safely erase/destroy those data.
For starters, I got my self 'secure file deletion' from play store, which allows to wipe off selected data off the phone memory and the external card. Which I did. Images/videos are stored under:
/storage/extSdCard/DCIM/Camera
But after wiping those off, I realised that not all image/video data is cleaned off. The OS also stores thumbnails for those media. Surprisingly, those are stored in phone memory and location can't be changed:
/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/.thumbnails
In there, there are .JPGs (thumbnails) and a strange '.thumbdataXXXX' file. So, I use 'secure file deletion' to remove those as well. Funny thing is that even after erasing those, I can still see the thumbnails of the corresponding video/image (but when I select it, it says 'file not found' - which is expected, because its already been wiped). Nevertheless, my guess is that the thumbnails of those videos/images are also cached elsewhere. But where?
My question is - is that all there is to it? Is the OS storing any more related data in regard to images/videos that I need to wipe? Are those actions I have taken enough to give me peace of mind that my media are safely wiped off beyond recovery?
I found that the secure deletion apps are very few, most of them require root and most even don't work properly (e.g. files reappearing after wipe etc). There are some good ones like 'ishredder 3 pro' and 'clean master' that offer secure wipe options - but only for wiping off entire phone/card memory - which is not what I want here. Any more suggestions?
The phone is a non-rooted Samsung with 4.1.2 Android OS on it. I don't wanna root the phone and I don't want to wipe entire ext card - so any suggestions, please bear that in mind.
Makes me wondering why there isn't any build-in function to the OS for secure deletion of files? Sure it would be slower and not everyone would applaud it, but it could be enabled on demand e.g. via Developer Options...
ta!
I have also noticed, that ever since I started using 'secure file deletion', when I connect via USB to copy files from the extSD to the PC, I get "device not connected" errors every few files I copy. Then, I have to use 'enable usb debugging' (from Dev Options) in order to get the device to show up again.
Any thoughts on my initial queries will be most appreciated. Someone must have noticed those issues. Perhaps they are not specific to 4.1.2 but maybe other versions of the OS...

Just another observation regarding this. If I go into File Manager and nagivate to "/storage/extSdCard/DCIM/Camera" and then go back to Gallery, then the thumbs of videos that are already deleted don't show up. That's a workaround for refreshing the cache (without having to do a full restart).
Anyone noticed those issues, or is it just me???
I rooted my SoftWiner EVB Tab (Android v4.0) just yesterday which was pre rooted (I didn't know that before). Now, I'm unable to install most of the apps in it & says that internal storage is low & to free up space. But,in settings, Total internal storage is shown to be zero with 40MB occupied by apps. The apps that I had installed isn't there though pre installed apps are there. The "/data" folder is shown empty (I think its unmounted) but with terminal emulator, I know its not empty but says permission denied. I've lost root as well. I've come to know that it roots automatically on factory reset. But,factory reset isnt working, though, switching on the device factory resets itself but the problem remains. And, no anyshortcuts and key combinations are working for reboot to recovery (and no app will be able to do as theres no root) . Any solutions and suggestions? Please help.
Greetings.
I'm having a problem restoring my messages using adb method in Nougat. I have done it before in CM12 and CM13 with no problems but since I flashed LineageOS 7.1.1, I had problems with it. First was the location. Before it was located in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/database. After googling around, I found a this thread. Turns out it was now located in /data/user_de/0/com.android.providers.telephony. So I go ahead and pushed my mmssms.db backup to that location but still my messages did not appear. Worse is my SMS app crashes every time I open it. Did a reboot, wiped cache/dalvik cache, tried to delete the *.db-journal files as mentioned in the thread but still no luck. I had to wipe the data again to regain my SMS app. I hope someone can help me. TIA
Bump
I have the same problem...
Yep same problem here. The /data/user_de location doesn't really seem to work either
Same problem here with latest Lineage on a rooted serranoltexx (Samsung Galaxy S4 mini LTE). I think something changed in the last update, but I don't understand whether it's Android's or Lineage's fault.
I give you more information, as it seems like a recent issue which troubles a lot of users - I found many similar threads, but no solution so far.
On my old Samsung S2 I was using the app SlightBackup (free, from F-Droid) to backup SMSs. However, copying the SlightBackup database (.xml format) on my new phone and reinstalling it there doesn't seem to work, so I decided to copy manually the mmssms.db file. Also in my case, the new directory seems to be /data/user_de/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases (however, there is also a file called telephony.db which has a symbolic link in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases )
Still, my SMSs do not show up, and moreover the "contacts" app crashes. I tried deleting all the content of the folder and then the messaging app crashes (a full reboot restored the content, however, and the functionality of both apps with it).
Interesting to notice that all the *.db and *.db-journal files in the folder do not change size even if I send/receive SMSs, so I guess they are there just for compatibility, and do not actually store the messages. The "real" database is probably somewhere else, but I have no idea where to look for.
Help would be really appreciated. I'm willing to send 0.01 BTC to the first person who finds a working solution
P.S.: yes, I have also taken care of the filesystem permissions of the .db file, which is something not mentioned in any other thread I found, but important I think. In my case the .db file is 660 with owner radio:radio, same for the .db-journal but permissions 600.
P.P.S.: installing third-party apps to restore my SMSs is not an option in my case. I know about working apps in the Play Store but I don't want to use them.
P.P.P.S.: yes, my phone is rooted, and I am not using third-party messaging apps, just the default one.
Hi,
is there a pissibility to install TouchWiz launcher on Lineage 14.1 SGS2 ?
I ask, because i have many problems and missing features on LA 14.1, and i think this might be a problem of the Trebuchet launcher.
1. Missing Samsung Driving Mode
2. USB-PC connection is always at "charging" (doesn't stay at MTP)
3. GPS doesn't show the status, if it is on or off, or searching for a singnal (it only shows up when requested by an app)
4. Menue Button shows launcher settings instead of System settings
5. Changing / swiping home sites stops at the first and the last site. (no endless search-change in one direction possible)
6. there is no "nerby" connection possible. DNLA, Chromecast, NAS, and BT doesn't appear in the OS native media players. (like it was in OS 4.12)
7. The OS integrated screensharing doesn't work. It just connects for a second to the chromecast device and then it closes.
8. Email attachements (e.g. WAV) doesn't open. Error message: "no app installed to open" And there is no choice to choose an app manually. But i have many apps installed that can play WAVE.
I think this is related to the Trebuchet launcher?
Is there another launcher possible that fixed all these issues?
Tasker command Problems (E-Robot):
9. Can't unlock display via Tasker
10. Some events doesn't work, e.g. "App started / App opened / App get in focus / App closed" etc.
Other:
11. When i try to overwrite some app-setting files in root directory, the app says "no such file", or "permission denied". But the file has the same permissions as the orig file before.
(in one of 50 trials the files where accepted without an error message, but i don't kow why, or what i done right)
12. When I insert the SD card from the phone to the PC, the Win-PC says the SD card is locked. But it isn't! So I must do error-check and correction every time, or sometimes new-format the SD card.
13. Is it possible somehow to change/rename the automatic code names of the internal storage and external Sd card? "4B95-09FD" and "410E-190C" is so ugly, and i can never remind which is what. Why are the developers doing such ugly ****???
14. Since i have installed and deinstalled the "iPlay Music" app (3 Days ago) the playstore always opens itself one time each hour and prompts me to install the player. How can i stopp the playstore to bother me with this installation prompt?
15. When the screen is waked up (e.g. by a call, or message) it keeps awake and does not lock again, sometimes.
16. The soft key bottons in display-off mode are always shining or blinking. Why??
Are there any solutions to any of these issues?
Maybe a Nougat Rom with touchwiz?
My old 4.12 stock rom was really more easy to handle. I miss it :crying:

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 5G version SM-G977P on Sprint.
The issue I have is when rebooting the device, randomly it will change my userID to the point the system things it is being hard reset. All my apps force close and nothing works except wiping the data partition and re-setting up my entire device.
I have no idea what is happening, I thought I had all security disabled but something is causing a new user to be detected or whatever. All I know is its annoying. I do have EdXposed, which I want to keep, but I do not think that is the sole cause. I can't force it to happen either.
What I am looking for is someone who understands the startup/shutdown procedure for android and what things in that would cause this kind of behavior. I do have a logcat attached that was taken right after this happened.
Whoever helps me out, I wouldn't mind donating a beer/coffee, cause this is driving me mad.
Thanks,
Seth
Additional information:
So I installed an application via adb, and the device immediately showed the boot animation and soft rebooted itself. Which I overlooked, every time I would reboot the device, it was right after installing an apk via adb. Is there something with the installer that is screwing up and getting user information wrong?
Some more:
I noticed that device encryption is disabled but user_de still shows up. And when this random event occurs, apps crash because they can't read their data in the user_de location (Permission Denied) unless I set 777 to the entire contents of user_de. So the apps no longer are the owner of those files. Its so weird and I think what is happening is the device installs an app and gives it a different user or something and when I reboot, it makes all the apps have this owner and nothing can communicate.
@elesbb
If an app gets installed then by default it's always installed for the headlesss system user ( user 0 ).

That is what I thought.. But, ya know, they changed a million things in Android 10 to make it "more secure" so I have no idea what the heck is happening. Another thing I noticed is EdXposed log contains duplicate entries for loading of the classes, could this be part of the problem?
I honestly am so lost as to what could be doing this.
