this looks like a bit of a deal-breaker given samsungs poor update schedule.
I really hope they're not talking about an encrypted bootloader, although I seriously doubt they would state that as a feature.
sold my n8 1 month back and waiting for s2 with nokia 6300 and 3120 classic in my hand. so its better to wait buddy

This is about the functionality targeted at improving security for integrated business applications.
However, The issue as I see it is that if they do not also lock bootloader and ability to install custom root-level stuff out using hardware encryption, then any hardware encryption of user-space stuff is pointless. I predict they either lock it, or if they're clever, to diffuse hackers and modders interest in cracking the encryption they might allow you to unlock it at cost of removing the ability to integrate with business apps. (or other way around or poss with a sandbox of some kind)

of those two options, which one offers the fastest turnaround to market, so therefore cheaper to produce and faster to make money from? i wouldn't doubt samsung to completely lock this.
which imo goes against androids openness. you may as well have a custom crappy samsung operating system on it that's semi-compatible with android.
i thought google wanted to clamp down on skins completely? or is that just for tablets?

It's true that it's probably cheaper, but at the same time not as many will buy it, so in the end it might be a loss to them.
Of course it will be flashable...theres nothing we cant set free on xda... ..really...dont worry about it.

Guys could it be possible that s2 might have nand lock plus encrypted bootloader? Any ideas?
If it is the case then it will spell lotz of trouble for us as then even rooting will be a trouble....
And if by encrypted hardware.....does that mean that it will be difficult to find suitable drivers which will make cheating the bootloader difficult and also voids the kexec method employed in bypassing the x10 bootloader?

I gave a look at xda threads of those two phones. Everything you can dream of is availlable (last RC4 of cyanogenmod 7, among a lot of other roms).
For what I understood, the only real issue is modified kernels?
If this is the kind of limitation we are talking about, that's fine with me.

Without kernel voodoo sound, bln, etc are not possible.

No custom kernels is a HUGE problem. Kernels are written for specific android versions. You can't run Android 2.3 (or even 2.2) on a 2.1 kernel (we had this problem with the motorola milestone). This means you have to wait till the manufacturer starts developing or else you are STUCK. So really, it is a huge limitation. Also, if the manufacturer doesn't support things like a swap partition, you will never be able to get it.

I'm considering getting an Atrix when it eventually hits Europe, but people always talk about Motorola's locked bootloader. What does that actually mean? Does it mean custom ROMs are impossible? I love the look of this phone but I'd like to be able to modify it if I can't live with the supposedly-awful Motoblur.

It pretty much means you can't change the KERNEL .. which means you're limited to customization to the phone. (e.g. No cyanogenmod, No MIUI, no community upgrades to gingerbread or honeycomb etc., no custom ditbits that only a kernel can provide).

Locked you can, encrypted you can't. All phones come locked bootloader. So we are praying that its locked and not encryped although it will likely be encrypted

Wrong. Few users even know about locked/encrypted bootloaders. We are a very small minority who cares about this issue.
One thing you'll note if you look around the forums are people still using older model phones like the 8525 which have lost support from the manufacturer a long time ago. Keeping legacy hardware current is costly to manufacturers due to development costs and from competitors releasing newer model phones. Look at what happened to Motorola when they clung to the Razr. They have to keep up with the others. Every sale lost is a potential profit gain for the competition. So they always have a "newer/better model" right around the corner. Keeping their boot loaders encrypted is an attempt at forcing the user to upgrade by limiting the amount of development required to keep the phone current. Even though we are a minority, we are still viewed as lost profit if we are still staying attached to our old phones when newer models are released.
I recently bought the Note. I was an ios user and perfer it over android. I love the hardware of the Note but not the software. So I would like to know if there is a way to run iOS on the Note and when I say run I mean like if it was an iPhone 4s. Is there any one who can help me anything is much appreciated,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that will most likely never happen. I'll trade my wife's iPhone 4 for your Note though, I'll even throw in a dead iPad!
Well, truth be told, there is not a solution yet.
BUT, if you wait a bit, a rom called MIUI will likely be developed.
Let me explain...
Cyanogen is a team that develops 'clean' Android roms for many devices. This means, no bloat and has ALL of the features that Android has to offer, enabled (with exception to features that would not be applicable because the phone simply does not have the hardware - for example, if your phone does not have NFC, Cyanogen wont support it for your device and they simply remove all of the code related to this). The result is, the most feature rich version of Android (and most up to date as they do keep up with Google's releases) with the least amount of crap. This keeps the phone lean and clean.
Now, since Cyanogen is open source, they make the source code available for other rom developers to modify what they have done to create different experiences. This allows developers to start with a feature rich rom and develop on top of that to add their own 'flavor' to their work.
One such 'flavor' is MIUI which strives to make your Android device as Iphone like as possible. While it isnt perfectly matched to the Iphone, its moderately close.
Dont get me wrong, I for the life of me am baffled as to why someone would want their Android phone to look like an Iphone but that is what MIUI is there for.
(BTW, if I am wrong about MIUI, feel free to mention it, based on everything I have read about it however, the impression I got was to theme an Android OS to look like IOS).
However, we have a long way before this happens. Rom developers have barely figured out how to do anything with this phone.
To my knowledge, there is only 1 custom rom (Saurom) and it isnt really all that custom from what I can see. All it seems to have is enhancements from the stock rom (overclocking, cwm, att bloat removed?) but in essence is just a more efficient streamlined stock rom.
There is also only one custom kernel that I can see that again, is the same as the stock kernel but allows for overclocking (and I think I read that the davlik cache size was increased).
Once Samsung releases the source code for the Note, we will start seeing alot more rom development, at which time Cyanogen will jump on board and start making roms (using the source that Samsung releases for things like drivers) and once Cyanogen has a relatively stable rom, MIUI will likely take the Cyanogen source and tweak it.
Very convoluted I know but probably wont be seeing anything earth shattering until the source code is released from Samsung.

I don't think anyone has done any new fixes for 4.3 conversion, as there's really not much point anymore. Some of the old fixes might still work, but you're probably better off converting back. Is there a particular ROM you want that hasn't been ported? If not, what's your reason to stay converted?

Thanks for your answer, first i dont like the original lg software, second i have better battery result with the nexus software and all be get better with android 4.3, third i dont know if this is a placebo effect but i feel more fluid performance...

There are plenty of 4.3 ROM available for non converted devices which are non stock, and which yield excellent battery life. I recommend you try some of them before dismissing them.

I saw this and I figured I'd jump in, I'm also converted and I'm wondering about a GPS fix- I've easily applied the fixes for Ext SD, Cap Keys, etc, however GPS seems to aloud me- I can't find a way to make it work in a normal fashion, Maybe if I'd give it like a long time it would work but then what's the point?
So, I was wondering, what was a way that worked for you to make GPS work?
Additionally, I will say that in all my time doing android (hasn't been long, but I've gone through at least 7-8 devices including most of the flagships) I've never seen any version of CM run as smooth and stable as a stock nexus 4, but that's just me- I like roms who work fairly quickly out of the box, not ones where you have to keep putting out fires and fixing stuff.
Anyway, regarding my question- any idea how to "fix" GPS?
Most of the experienced users and developers do not approve of the n4 conversion and a lot of us explicitly refuse to support it. So convert back, you should have just been patient and waited the wee bit of time it took to get aosp roms on here without converting.

Couple of things:
First off, I just did this conversion, after having being annoyed with the optimus UI in my optimus g which I procured from ebay at a wonderful price of 170$ for a mint in box price. I figured converting to a nexus 4 would simply grant me a wonderful stock rom to use, much like Galaxy S4 use flash the GPe rom for their own use.
The fact that this very simple process (honestly, just use the tot file provided in LGNPST, god almighty, it's child's play! only ODIN is easier than this!) is not supported in my eyes just goes to show the truly awful state in which we found ourselves in- Instead of exploring new avenues, we fear advancement and change and are told to "stick to our pre-approved roms".
Well sir, perhaps I'm not your idea of an "experienced user" but I will not be kow-towed! I'll just figure this out on my own, as I did with most things I needed to figure out while helping my friends with their android devices for the last couple of years.
Not to bash the devs of course, they offer us choice and we choose to put our heads in the sand.
In any case, have a wonderful day, let me know of anything else you don't approve of so I can immediately remove it from my life-

You're completely missing the point. It wasn't about being condescending at all, but to inform the user that no one with E970s are working on the converted version anymore, as you can run the ASOP perfectly fine "natively". So, since all development is going into working with the latest releases on non-converted E970, why should we recommend N4 converting your E970?? No one will help you should anything go wrong.
That's not being condescending, just a statement of facts. Sorry.
This issue could be avoided if people would just do a bit more reading before jumping into the conversion. I agree there is no real point to convert anymore.

The conversion was a hack released against the wishes of those who discovered it, then left unsupported. Dvhexer released some patches until 4.1 update made the whole thing pointless. If you convert your phone so you can feel like a rebel that's fine, but it will be pointed out how silly it is if support is asked for.

What "development" do you expect? With Xposed and a plethora of modules, there really is no need for specialized custom ROMs. All you need is a rock-solid base and off you go. You can even theme everything in the phone with the LG Apps Theme Engine.

I used hyperbole. The fact remains that reaching out to devs directly will have far more effect than posting threads here.
It's not like they'll magically swoop in here and say "Oh guys, so sorry we haven't made anything for your phone yet, we'll get right on it!"
If you want to see action, post on Cyanogen's forum, open a github issue, or PM/mention devs who developed for LG phones in the past to see what their opinion is.
I can understand wanting to flash ROMs and such, it can definitely be fun, and it's good to have alternatives. But maybe i'm getting old, but i'm a bit tired of it nowadays: the bootloops, certain things not working, having to start over, the time wasted, missing phone calls from your girlfriend because you bootlooped and are constantly booted in recovery lmao. I think OEMs have come a long way since the early days of Android, so i'm usually good with rooted stock now, or a deodexed version. This phone already runs pretty great out of the box, so maybe try and enjoy it as it was made to be. And for sure with the Tmo model rootable, there's xposed, tweakbox, etc. But i definitely understand, OP, even flagship phones don't necessarily have as many custom ROMs as they used to.
The V10 is an awesome phone... But specialty development (cyanogen mod, AOSP) is going off a bit... First off development doesn't just happen... This is a brand new phone model, and although it uses a lot of the G4's hardware, there are a lot of differences, second screen being the biggest, also, t-mobiles version is currently the only one world wide with root access. Further hurting our chances. As for other flagship models, carriers and manufacturers, have been making it harder to root and modify phones... Which has been scaring development away... (why buy a phone you may never be able to modify?) if you want phones with a ton of options for development, I suggest you stick to either nexus devices, and /or something similar to the S series phones... That gets a ton of development... Plain and simple, T-Mobile is the only carrier on earth that doesn't care what you do to your phone. And from a development standpoint, this phone has only been out a little over 2 months, and currently has one model world wide with root access so unless someone Crack the bootloader on other models, or systemless root access becomes a reality with marshmallow, it's probably going to be a slow go... If you really want CM on your V10, (not sure why when you can strip this down to bare bones) you could build us all a rom... Seeing as you believe it's so easy...

Plus I'd say nowadays in many cases, you lose more than you gain by erasing the software that skilled professionals have developed for your phone. Like you said, those guys good lol. Maybe carriers and/or other corporate/financial concerns might dumb things down or limit features, but root can be plenty enough to open things up for savvy users.

I agree. Outside of Nexus devices I found that Cyanogen has never had proper quality control and the maintainers do whatever they want. Random things are constantly broken and are never acknowledged or fixed. You never know whether a new nightly would fix things or just break things more, even if you followed the commit logs. It's certainly more of an enthusiast's endeavor rather than a rock-solid daily driver OS.
Then there is the garbage camera image quality on non-Nexus phones - the proprietary image processing libraries and other stuff from stock ROMs are just unrivaled and Cyanogen has never been able to match stock camera quality.
I found that especially in the last year or so, stock ROMs have really become robust and polished and I simply do not need to flash Cyanogen anymore to "unsuck" my phone. Root and Xposed are enough to clean up and customize the stock ROM the way I like it and make my phone perfect.

It doesn't work yet? There's a thread on it, so I tried it and it did theme some stuff, but maybe it isn't fully working? Plus I could swear that my system update center broke after using the Inverted UI module

It needs in rom support, which we don't have yet, to fully work completely. Probably why it seems like it broke stuff...

LOL! Well, if I knew how to code, I could do it, but I don't... so yeah. Unless adding the support is simpler than recoding a bunch of APKs?
While more development is always great, I'm very happy with debloated and deodexed stock-based ROMs for the V10. @siraltus has done good work, and that's really all I need, the ability to root, run Xposed and be free from bloatware. I'm sort of over Cyanogenmod in terms of actually flashing it myself. The importance of CM in the history of Android can't be overstated, but for a device with such specialized hardware as the V10 (secondary display, DAC/Amp, etc.), I don't think CM would ever be as good as a stock-based ROM.
I even prefer a stock theme nowadays.... At least it's consistent throughout the system, and I know I'll be able to read any and all text on my phone lol.

Nothing like a random white text on white background screen and you have no idea what it says... LOL.
I know the Snapdragon variant has a locked bootloader; but, what are the chances of unlocking it at all by the talented devs in the community? Or, will this device end up dead and forgotten just like the S7 I upgraded from?

Unlocked, prolly not. Samsung is serious about security.
Root? Yeah, I am sure it can be done. There are some recent exploits in 8.0 and 8.1 that were not patched until the March security patch. We don't have that security patch yet so this is a chance there.

A good, clean root? One that doesn't bring the device to a crawl and needs a ton of workarounds like the S7? Probably sounds like I'm being unappreciative of the work done with such exploits, but I assure you I'm not. I've had plenty of devices with great communities in the past, but I just feel that root is pointless if it isn't 100% stable.
Maybe I'll just start setting aside some cash for the next Google Pixel; or whatever they call it if they don't change the name again.
Inusee to be all about rooting my phones but I haven't rooted my last 2 phones. With the advances made with Android I really can't think of what I would do with root that I can't already do.

Remove bloatware, install Viper4Android, make true backups of my device, along with an unlocked bootloader we can have faster updates through the use of custom roms, better customization options. These are a few things I'd like but can't because some company has decided that it isn't in my, the customer, best interest.

Eh. I thought voper4android was always a little too heavy. All of the settings the phone natively has plus 3rd party launchers gives a heck of a lot of customization options.
I'm not trying to down anybody who likes to root. If I could I probably would. I just think those days are slowly fading.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Nova Launcher and have been using it for several years now; however, it doesn't affect the entire system. I have to use Samsung's themes to take care of settings and the built-in stock apps. I'd much rather have just one method of theming that handles everything; hence my desire to use custom roms.
As far as Viper goes, I can understand why it wouldn't be for everyone, but the built-in Dolby Atmos option sounds like garbage to me no matter what source I'm playing audio through. This is one reason why I miss my Galaxy Tab S 8.4".

That it does! I didn't see the 5 at the end of 965U.
Perhaps it's due to a lack of sleep, but I seem to be missing something with these model numbers. 965U shows to be the Snapdragon variant, but all other sources say there's no root method. I'm just going to stop worrying about it all at this point and quietly wait in the corner while the experts take care of business. Lol
