On SuperClean 2.9.2, my time without signal is huge. That is unless I activate airplane mode momentarily while on charger then unplug the phone. Is this documented and are there effects from the time without signal?
Apparently it works I do that after every reboot. BTW that's for reminding me

I guess my main concerns are a couple of the many Froyo bug rumors. Battery life of course and the other calls being missed with no indication. I know I've had both e.g. I get an inexplicable voicemail on Google Voice.
Other phones have had this TWS bug and the same fix has worked. I've been telling people about the bug and this fix since maybe SC 2.6 or 2.7 and it seems people are finally starting to catch on.
Now, what I'm wondering is if we could toggle airplane mode through init.d when the phone first boots up. It would be an even better workaround to the issue.
if you have tasker you can have a profile setup to turn it off and on at a certain time of day. i have just now don this and will test in the morning.

hey im wondering if this would work for us or is there some porting needed and is this somthing that would help gps and if im in the wrong section please move.

Very interesting post indeed.
From his findings, I'm also wondering if we have Auto Rotate Screen (the accelerometers) turned off, if that hinders the ability for our GPS to accurately detect location and movement. He suggested that it goes into low-power mode when it isn't detecting movement via the sensors, but didn't say what happens if the sensors are turned off.
...I'm going to have to test this out tomorrow.
Are people still having issues with GPS on the fascinate? Since we more or less had the issue fixed I've had as good or better GPS performance than on my other smartphones.
Da_G is a good buddy of mine, trust me, if anyone knows wtf they are talking about, it would be him....

im just wondering if this is safe to flash to our phones or does it need to be ported to fascinate
yep still having issues with gps...sometimes doesn't lock. sometimes takes forever. sometimes...omgsh...it actually locks!
not reliable.
I applied the d101 gps fix to eb01 and my gps locks in around 20sec. Auto rotate or not my gosh never locked on eb01 without the d101 fix.

Just tested my gps a little. Mine is locking within 5 meters in a brick building with auto rotation on or off. Not in a car currently but I took a little jog and it seemed to follow my direction and location very accurately in both.
So I guess my GPS is pretty good.
Regardless... I wanted to say thanks for reposting that because it was a really interesting read!
It should just work, even though EB01 stock should just work too.
Just don't flash the AT&T-specific version...
The Fascinate doesn't seem to have the same layout concerning the gps jupiter files (I don't see them anywhere, at first glance). Either I am missing something or it's a completely different setup.
There are some settings in his /data/gps/secgps.conf (just a text configuration file) that are different than the stock fascinate file. These might be worth looking into to see if they help improve the signal without using his modified binary. You don't need to flash the file using CWM, just use adb to push a modified file (or root explorer and edit it on the phone itself).
Since this is a CDMA phone, I don't know how many people this would affect, but here is a general Android GPS tip for those who don't live in North America:
In /system/etc/gps.conf, change the address to the server that corresponds to your country:
Code:
NTP_SERVER=[COLOR="Red"]north-america[/COLOR].pool.ntp.org
I usually can't get an accurate lock or any lock at all unless I reboot with gps already enabled. Then I will get a good lock instantly... If I reboot the phone with gps off then I will get no signal/lock again.

Let me share my experience with GPS on EB01, it's GREAT, you just have to turn on GPS "correctly."
If I turn on GPS using the Notification switch, GPS takes FOREVER to lock, if it even does so. Gone several minutes with no lock.
Now here's the thing, if you turn on GPS in the Settings > Location settings, I always get super fast, under 5 second GPS locks. ALWAYS. I've tried this out repeatedly over several days, and it really makes a difference. Once you turn on GPS using Settings, you can leave your phone on, reboot, whatever, and GPS will still be responsive. If you turn it off, wait a while and use the Notification switch to turn on GPS and you're trying to get a cold lock, it'll be slow again, just be sure to use the Setting option and it'll be back to being responsive.
That's my experience.

Nice observation...just worked for me too!!
By golly... He's right, although it took me about twenty seconds to lock.

Hmm... I remember this from a different android device I have. The stock power control widget for wifi would take 45 seconds longer for the network to connect then if I would go to the wifi menu and turn it on myself. I found out that there were two methods for turning on the wifi programmatically, and that some widgets used one method and the other widgets used the other.
If I remember right, the fast method changed the setting by calling the wifi menu and emulating the menu press, while the slow method attempted to power on the wifi directly.
$10 says that if you started decompiling, you'd find a similar situation here.
Hi, I'm currently using ICS Passion v10.6. I do not have a data plan, but am always connected to wifi at my house (router is usually about 3 feet from my phone).
Often my phone will lose google connectivity (wifi and signal bars will go gray), and often, usually when i leave my phone untouched for a while and then check it, i will notice that wifi had been lost and it does not reconnect until i turn the screen back on. I have the wifi sleep policy set to never sleep (keep wifi on: always), and the battery info says that the wifi is constantly on.
I was wondering if a different modem would help or if it is a bug in the rom itself or the kernel? My wifi and google connections would constantly be on 24/7 when I was running bionix v1.3.1. I've tried flashing the KB1 modem which bionix uses, but i get the same result.
Thanks for any help
Hey Devils,
I've had some of the same issues, aslo using 10.6. If I leave my phone alone for a bit it seems to stop getting notifications from data. The best example of this is I use Trillian IM and I can be chatting on it. Finish. And put it aside for awhile and not get any notifications and then when I hit the power button all of a sudden I've got 30 IMs waiting for me.
I have tried several different Vibrant ICS modems from this thread but they all caused big issues for me. some caused massive power drain but all of them caused my lock screen be unresponsive when I hit the power button and I'd have to wait for the screen to blink out and hit the power button again to be able to get access. The same would happen when I get a phone call, sometimes the screen just would not respond when it lit up for an incoming call. I think it was because it would start searching for data connectivity (so it seems related to the problem which makes me think it's not modem related)
In the end, I went back to the KB5 modem and my screen issues seem to have resolved. I may try Passion 11 soon and I'll post results if it helps, but right now I'm not ready to do another change on my phone.
-update- I just checked and saw that v12 is out now and has both a kernel update and an update to wifi. I'll probably try that tonight.
-update- I think this might be being caused by "Deep Sleep" causing the phone to shut down it's data antennas to turn of to save battery. I've installed "NStools" on my phone and set it to set the min CPU freq. to 200mhz to see if that will prevent deep sleep. I'm not certain this tool will work 100% on this build, but we'll see I guess.
I'm also running the Vibrant without data, using wifi to do things with the internet.
Since flashing ICS I haven't had any wifi issues on the two networks that I've used. Seems odd that you are now having them. Have you tried a different hotspot?
I have had issues sending text messages. I can place and receive calls, receive texts but can't send any. Have you had any of these issues? I'm curious if it has to do with the lack of data plan.
I've been using the app BetterBatteryStats as recommended by XDA to determine why my RAZR is awake much of the time, even when the screen is off and data is turned off. It turns out the problem is the internal process IMS_Data_Retry. This process apparently keeps attempting to establish a data connection over cellular data, at least 4G LTE. It aquires a wake lock while doing its work. This one process can keep the phone awake 95% of the time. The only way I have found to semi-stop it is to turn on 4G LTE. Even then, while it stops consuming CPU time (supposedly), the count of retry attempts keeps going up. (Putting the phone in Airplane mode also stops it, but then calls are stopped as well.)
There is a setting in /system/build.prop that I thought controlled this process:
ro.cdma.data_retry_config=default_randomization=2000,max_retries=infinite, 0, 0, 120000, 180000, 540000, 960000
I looked at some code references I found ( http://hi-android.info/src/com/android/internal/telephony/cdma/CdmaDataConnectionTracker.java.html ) and learned that the above values are in milliseconds. It seems that the default_randomization value is added to the other values in the list to create a schedule of retry attempts, but I wasn't able to figure out all the parameters to the method, if I even have the right one. I tried changing "infinite" to a small number under 10, but it had no effect - the process just keeps retrying forever.
Is there a dev out there who knows more about this? I want to limit this process because I seldom use cellular data right now and am usually on WiFi. It hinders any attempt to extend battery life. Is it a bug? Is it fixed in a later release (I'm on .748 stock) ? Do any of the custom ROMs have this problem? Can the build.prop setting I found be given values that limit the amount of time this process holds wake locks?
Thanks.
Did you ever get any resolution on this? For me, I think the problem started with the ICS update this summer. I constantly have gsm_data_tracker, RILJ, and IMS_Data_Retry using up the battery (in that order from highest to lowest). I tried wiping cache which helped the 1st time it cropped up and then it came back. I also tried a tip I saw somewhere for turning on airplane mode, rebooting, and turning off airplane mode (though mine as soon as it reboots, it already turns off airplane mode which it shouldn't). That worked for several weeks, but I had to do it EVERY DAY when I got to work. I think it's something with the 3g repeaters in the building. I did have it so it was wifi only (mobile radio off) on my work profile in profile scheduler, but then I needed cell for some mms stuff, so I ended up enabling it again. Basically when I come in the building and forget about my phone for an hour or 2, I go to get it out of my backpack and it will be hot from processing and 20% or more of the battery gone when I've done nothing in 2 hours of being at work. I saw somewhere that someone though either gsm_data_tracker or RILJ was related to something with the alarm, which I do use my phone as my alarm, but I use a 3rd party app. With the time change, there were a few days I woke up before it ever went off, so I turned it off before it did alarm. There were no differences with the partial wakelocks or battery drain in those cases. Unfortunately, I don't have another alarm readily available to get up for work right now and on the weekends when I don't need an alarm, I can't replicate the cell repeater at work issues, since I wouldn't be around the cell repeaters. As fart as in the building at work, until I reboot with airplane mode and all of that, the cell signal will bounce between like 0 bars/3g and lots of bars (no indication of network) and some bars with 1x network. It's all over the place. The airplane mode/reboot used to stabilize that, but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick anymore the last few days that I've tried that. I have to leave my phone on the charger as much as possible at work so that I don't leave for the day with a dead phone.
I have seen various posts about this, but my MX2 ... no matter what the wifi sleep policy is set to, it always seems to lose wifi connectivity at some point. I also verified the battery was set to "performance". I swear I saw some hacks a while back to fix this but I must have been smoking something as I can't find them. Thanks much in advance.
Oddly enough, it seems the phone doesn't disconnect if it is connected to an open network. If I have security enabled the phone seems to completely disconnect and have to reconnect after you turn the phone back on. Although regardless the phone stops responding to ICMP traffic no matter what type of network it is on after a bit of having the screen off.
I have had this issue since the last update in oct. I have spoken with Verizon's tech(non)support 20 times and I'm on my 3rd X2 . With me not only does my wifi go to sleep but so does the cellside of the phone . I would receive a voicemail alert an hour after the phone didn't ring . Verizon's answer was to master reset the the phone which I did once for them(it's their answer to everything, any glitch whatsoever and they want you to reset your phone). Anyways I have since rooted the phone and now use their signal exclusivley during working hours(wifi hotspot). Thats seems to be the only answer to me using my phone online and it not going to sleep .
I'm running cm7 on my dx2. I have some wifi issues with it and am running wpa/wpa2 on my wifi. I started using wifi keeper running workarounds 1 and 2 and haven't seen as many issues, so maybe try that?

WIFI and Dialer mod/fix for CM7DX2!
For those of you having dialer or WIFI issues, go to: CM7DX2 WIFI and Dialer fix/mod (enable cron scheduler)! I have posted a mod to take care of the WIFI disconnects and the dialer lag issue.
Ciao!
Someone started a thread a while back on this, but I wanted to start my own hoping that this issue may get a little more attention, and keep a detailed thread for future use. I love this phone, but this is the one significant issue that I have.
I spend most of my day and evening on wifi since I have it available at work and home. I've noticed since day one that I wasn't getting my notifications on time specifically in Gtalk, and still exists to this day after the latest 2.13 OTA update. When I hear my phone get a notification, I will check it, and the notification has a timestamp in the notification drop down, so I know I got it just then, but then in gtalk the timestamp on my message is several minutes earlier. I have seen it as much as 45 minutes late. It is very noticeable whenever I turn on the screen that instantly I get a notification. The issue exists with all push notifications. Gmail notifications will arrive late as well as exchange notifications. I've seen reports about it happening with WhatsApp messenger. It has been theorized on other forums that the wifi radio goes too deep into sleep for the notification to wake the phone up.
My wifi policy is set to stay on always. I've tried factory resetting. I know that the wifi stays connected while it is sleeping and is not disconnecting. I've tried multiple wireless networks. I've tried 2.4ghz vs 5ghz. It has nothing to do with smart sync disabling data as this is happening during the day and not between the hours of 12am and 7am.
I have done a lot of searching on Google about this issue, and I've determined that it is an issue with the entire line of HTC One series phones. People have reported this issue on the One X (International and ATT), the One S, Incredible 4g, and of course many other reports on the Evo LTE.
I have compiled many of these reports in a thread I opened on HTCs support forum site here: http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/222/p/15183/62995.aspx#62995
Please feel free to test this yourself. Connect to wifi, turn your screen off, send yourself a gtalk message from a separate account. If it comes in on time, wait about a minute and try again. If it doesn't come in, wait as long as you can stand or just turn the screen on, and see your notification come in. I tested this on a friend's Evo LTE who insisted he wasn't having the issue, and I was able to duplicate this. It seems that most people must not use wifi as much as I do, and maybe just haven't noticed.
Current solutions / workarounds:
Turn on Best Wifi Performance in the advanced wifi settings - kills battery
The best solution that someone found on another forum was to use an app called REGPON Wifi KeepAlive. It is an app that puts a partial wakelock on the phone in order to keep it from going into deep sleep. Check both boxes included in the app. The first starts the process, and the second will turn it off when wifi is disconnected. This doesn't have a huge effect on battery as I thought it would since it is putting a wakelock on the phone. I actually get very good battery life still, and can last through the day with heavy usage. It's nowhere near the significant drain that you get with the Best Wifi Performance option.
What if you set wifi to sleep when the screen goes off?

That could be considered a workaround, and I have tried it, but wifi doesn't go to sleep until after several minutes after you turn the screen off when you use that setting. Then of course mobile data kicks in and notifications come in on time.
