pitmanr2003,
You seem to know nvflash and CWM, so I'll give you the short version.
NVFlash back and install CWM so you can work in it.
I associate boot looping with partition problems -- your tablet needs to
be re-partitions in CWM.
When you have a working CWM, go to the Advanced menu and run
the Repartition option. Set it for 2048 and 0 when requested. Takes
a while so don't panic.
When that finishes, also Fix Permissions. Then Wipe Dalvic Cache.
The go back to the main CWM menu and Wipe Cache and Wipe
Factory Data.
Having done this, you can reload your rom. If CWM is still working,
you can use it to load. If not, you have plenty of nvflash experience
now to do it that way.
Hope this helps.
Rev
P. S. -- I don't use the format utilities. Also, in CWM the Volume rocker
moves the menu selection up and down. Home selects the item. Back
will take you back a step. I think these directions are just above the
menu at the top of the screen.
P. S. S. -- If you can't flash CWM, flash stock and then look at the new
post I just created in Q&A Forum on "Emergency CWM Recovery MiniSD".

Merged related

I have got cwm. Installed. And can move up and down. The problem is I can't select any options due to the home key and the back key don't work now. They used to work perfect. Till all this happened.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

pitmanr2003,
If the keys don't work with CWM, the I don't see anything to do
but go back and re-nvflash and see of that will get CWM to
working. Also, make sure the CWM is the bekit .8 version.
I mean re-nvflash to stock 1105 and reload CWM.

i can flash back to stock. I dont know what version, but all it does is boot loop, so how can i install cwm. The way i am installing cwm is through nflash by replacing part9 with the downloaded cwm for internal. I just change the name of it to part9. i have also tried the 46 nflash and it boot loops as well. i think im flashing cwm wrong through nflash, but that is all that Info i have found.

pitmanr2003,
Don't use the '46' it is for Linux and I have helped other people who loaded it and
got boot loops.
You say you are installing CWM -- what happens when you shut down, and then
restart by pressing power and volume +. Do you get CWM? Or what?
If we can get CWM installed and opened and working, then we can do several things ranging
from wiping cache to resetting factory data, to re-partitioning to wiping the dalvik
cache to fix permissions -- all of which could tip us over from not working to working.
Don't give up yet. Be patient and keep thinking.
Let us know.....

I can get cwm installed. I get to the recovery screen. And can use volume up and down to navigate but I can't select the options. My home and back button wont work. I push them and it does nothing. They worked fine before I did nflash and tried to restore a backup I had from while back.

Do you have bekit's 1105 image on the machine right now?
If not, what do you have on it?

I have it on there. Just don't know if I have it installed right being my home key and back button aren't workink. I queasy it is 1105. The one for internal use that is from sticky on installing cwm and roms
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Ok... we're not understanding each other. I asked what version of the nvflash image you have on there.
1) You must nvflash with bekit's 1105 image
2) You must use CWM .8
Any other combination will give you trouble.

I think I need to start over. What is best steps to get clean slate. Here is what I have tried. I used the format nflash utility that is stickied. Then I nvflashed what I assume is 1105. How can I tell? I just use the one that is stickied in here as well. When I do that it acts like its going to load. But it gets to tapntap screen and just keeps looping. Then I tried to format again through nflash. And then flash cwm to try to set partition size. The way I do this and may be wrong. I take cwm and rename it to part9
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

And reflash that way. I then can get to bekit .8 but home buttons and back button wont select options. I think where I'm going wrong is how I'm installing cwm through nflash. But can't find tutorial for it

If you are looping at the TapNTap screen you can probably install CWM from an SD card instead of through nvflash. Instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020747

Thx I will try that. I don't have any blank micro SD cards. Only my phone one. Will it be safe to just put it on root of it and use it. Even without deleting my files already on it

It should be but you never know. If you can back it up to your computer first that would be better.

That's what I probably will do

Clockworkmod recovery problem

I'm trying to access the CWM recovery mode, but after reboot, my phone goes into Android system recovery instead.
Any help?
Then you definately don't have CWM installed correctly. If I was you go back to basics and flash stock firmware with Odin, then flash kernel to match the firmware, kernel being CF-ROOT okay? Please press thanks if this helps

I was getting this as well... Cwm is installed it's just annoying. When you get to stock recovery hold home, power, and volume up and it should get you back to cwm. It is a very serious issue that gets very little discussion. Whatever you do don't wipe with stock. I did... Very long and tedious process to get back.

I have the same or similar problem, just trying to do a nandroid backup. CWM is definitely installed and no matter what I try it will only boot into sammy's 3e recovery.
This may help or point in the right direction. I found a YouTube vid about loading a modded version of the 3e without sig verification (can't post link, so search YouTube for 3e recovery mod) but it looks like that was for an AT&T model. I tried to do the same on my S2 but the recovery file is not in the same place, I did find a recovery file somewhere else in the system but when I replace that with the modded version it just reverts back to the original. Anyway, there must be something like this for standard international S2's anybody seen it ? if so please post the link.
But like ChongDroid says, it's a big problem with not much discussion.

same problem...only works with volume up but is that really a problem?
only change volume up instead volume down?
Pretty much if you use ROM manager to get into stock recovery and you've selected an install or a nandroid backup. It'll boot into recovery, try to install something, fail and then your prompted to reboot your device.. At this point you can ONLY select reboot, I repeat DO NOT wipe or anything in this menu. Do the three finger salute (manual recovery entry) instead of rebooting and she should take a second.. Then you might see rebooting but don't worry.. Keep holding.
Eventually it'll boot into cwm and get right on that install or nandroid with out navigating the menus.
K so one more time ppl, from 3e don't reboot, three finger salute. It rhymes
Cwm is there right along with root... She just needs a little push

No joy with the three finger salute
Well, I tried the three finger salute, held it for about three minutes and that is a feat on its own, but no re-boot into CWM happened, it did re-boot but only into 3e again. with a message about loading multi csc.
I guess there are too many variables to this problem to get a definitive answer, what works for someone does not appear to work for another.
Thanks anyway.

So I accidentally made my Photon boot into a black screen with my CWM options all in white letters. At the bottom it says "Cold booting Linux". I cannot select any options to go into Android recovery. Any one ever see/hear of this and if so, how do I fix it. Thanks in advance.

You need to reinstall your recovery.. Via fastboot or bootstrap. One of those two should def work. Worst case scenario is a SBF back to stock, I had that issue and sbf'd instead of trying recovery install.. was stupid..
Edit : Nevermind. It does look like you need to fastboot flash recovery. Should only take a few minutes to do.
Mine does the same thing. When the phone first boots you have 5 seconds to toggle. Press the down volume button until it says recovery. Then volume up to select it. No need to flash recovery unless you miss the M bootlogo.
I got to this mode by partitioning emmc or something like that. I got into the partition menu in CWM and there was no go back option. It was an accident for sure, but hasn't affected operations. I just don't have the M while booting.

(Q) cyanoboot boot loop + my ignorance = no bueno

To start, the other day I installed cm9 .04 with cyanoboot w/ twrp. Everythings been fine. Running cm9 mostly until I need something it can't do, then flash cm7 backup. Last night I was using twrp to compress the backups of each. During one of the times (I don't remember which rom I was running) after everything was compressed, wiped, and restored, I began getting the cyanoboot boot loop where when it restarts it goes to the cyanoboot screen and before you can press the n, it runs revovery. I noticed it runs to E9 and the next time shows E0. I tried the dd thing I saw at the end of the cyanoboot thread while in recovery from a booted cwm sdcard. I did it twice. Adb showed it running the process. At the end, I wasn't sure what to do, so once I tried reboot recovery and the next time I tried reboot. Each time it goes to cyanoboot starting recovery.
Any ideas on what to do? Should I flash cwm recovery? If so, then my saved backups are useless. Is there another way to force cyanoboot to run the rom installed on emmc instead of going to recovery?
Thanks ahead of time for any insight.

Please stop posting entirely unhelpful information. If he can't boot into internal emmc how do you expect him to use this app, even if it is something that could be helpful?
---------- Post added at 01:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:01 PM ----------
@ OP:
Your device is going straight to internal recovery? Perhaps try restoring your backup again? Or flash cm9 fresh?
Also, what do you mean by "compressing" recoveries? I haven't really working with TWRP before, so not sure if this is something unique to it or if you're just using a different term for something I am familiar. with.
I tried several different versions of the backups, both compressed and uncompressed. Tried fresh installs of cm7 and 9. Still nogo. I've been looking at adams ubuntu unbrick. I may try that. I was hoping there might be a quick fix.
Oh. And yes, its boot looping to internal twrp recovery. I can get a cwm recovery sdcard to boot.
Twrp gives you several options in your backups. You can select what parts you want backed up (system, data, etc), md5 or not, and compressed or uncompressed. Compressed takes longer but the size is hella smaller.
I prefer twrp for several reasons: touch ui, more options, file manager and more. But, as stated in the dev thread, its got bugs. Call me hell bent for disaster, but even if I have to flash another recovery or even start fresh from unrooted stock, I'll go back to cyanoboot and twrp.

ok. i downloaded adamoutlers ubuntu recovery. i ran it by the instructions. when it tried to boot, i got a black screen with some squiggly lines on the volume button side of the screen and then it did the normal bootloop process. before this, i was able to use a boot sdcard and install cwm to emmc. it doesn't have cyanoboot coming up anymore. but i still get the bootloops to recovery. i don't know if the adamoutler download was corrupted. i haven't been able to find an md5 sum for it. i've downloaded it again, and plan on downloading it a third time. i'll then compare the md5 sums of all 3.
i'm beginning to worry that i may have a damaged internal storage.
i also tried albertwertz recovery rom before the ubuntu recovery.
if anyone has more input, i would be grateful.
EDIT:
i ran md5 check sum on all three downloads. all were the same: 97befcb53ee04306c59d24b0ddd26ceb
i presume that's right, or i got three identically screwed up downloads.
if someone would check that i would appreciate it.
i'm about to try aspipatel's windows 7 method. i used it to unroot before.

I know you will be loosing everything, well unless you have a backup. I would suggest NVflash back to stock with CWM recovery. Then reload the ROM of choice to see or even just boot it into TapUI so see if the problem is Hardware related or UI related. It is tough to say.
i think its hardware, i gave it a nice hard wack and it seems ok...
the thing is i started to save/backup and go back to tap tap. thinking ill use my warrantee,
now it is stuck in a boot mode, turns on, starts to run but only getting to the tap embelm. it does this over and over maybe 6 second intervals..
any ideas??
i cannot get to cwm, and reload gtab or do anything. am i screwed??

Try NVflashing with the stock 1.1 BL with recovery ver.8 preinstalled, after done power device off by holding down power button. The just boot straight to recovery and do a data wipe factory reset then reboot system. The reason for the boot loop is there is still something on the name that the tnt software doesn't like. After you get it booted up then advice just NVflash 1.1 stock with stock recovery and it should boot right up afterwards. The reason for the 2nd nvflash is to remove any tracef the customs recovery.

Sounds like that you are using the NVflash with Stock recovery. When you hold down volume + and press the power button it is booting into stock recovery hence the triangle symbol. You need to get a fresh NVflash setup that includes CWM recovery and use it.

[Q] Stuck at launch screem

I have a p4wifi that is stuck in a boot loop. I think the term is 'soft bricked'.
Basically, last night I turned my tab on for the first time in ages, and it all worked fine. I had rooted and flashed custom roms before (I'd been running a nightly of CyanogenMod for a long time, and it worked well), and I considered myself an expert. I updated loads of apps and stuff, and then realised I wanted a new font. I went into ROM manager and found the font I wanted, Ubuntu. It told me there was an update to ClockworkMod recovery so I wen ahead and updated it, checking the thing for Touch (I'd already bought it). That want ahead and it updated, throwing me back into the OS. I then went to get Ubuntu (I downloaded it within ROM manager), and didn't deem it necessary to create a backup, nor wipe anything. It processed it but returned an error, I though ok but never mind and I told it to reboot. Again that worked fine. I realised I was on a very old verson of CyanogenMod (probably ICS, it was around 201304). As I always do, I grabbed the latest version (again, in ROM manager), and elected to install it. I didn't wipe the delvik cache or whatever, and hit 'Reboot into recovery'. That was where the problem occurred. It wouldn't go any further than the 'Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1' boot screen (see attachment) into recovery. A similar thing happened before, but it just eventually went away after an hour or so. This has been running for a day, and there has been no progress. I've tried various key combos, like the normal way to get into recovery, but they won't work.
If I need I could find the instructions I followed, but it would be hard.
Is it completely broken? Can a save my data? Will I have to factory reset it? Will I keep my root/ClockworkMod? Will I keep my rom?
Thanks in advance to the person who can answer this
Do you have any ROM zips in your SD card? If you do, boot into recovery, full wipe and flash it. Piece of advice, don't use the recovery in ROM manager. Download pershoot's version of cwm instead in here. www.droidbasement.com

If you can find a way to get into recovery, then yes you can use your nandroid. You problem now is you can't get into recovery or download mode, right? Well can you try using adb? If you can then type adb reboot recovery in command prompt to reboot to recovery.
Oh yeah, full wipe won't delete photos etc unless you wipe your internal storage/SD card.

So you can get into download mode?
Download mode, yes. I've got it open now, in fact
Now that's easy. Your tab can't boot because it doesn't have any sort of recovery(don't ask me why I don't know ). Apparently ROM Manager wiped your recovery clean and didn't flash the new one. Just flash cwm or twrp via Odin and try to boot. If it still can't boot, then restore your nandroid. Ironically, the same thing happened to me yesterday when I tried to flash latest twrp using Mobile Odin.

I actually have no idea. I think I used a program similar to Odin that did the job. I remember booting into download more before. Oh yes, I flashed the disk image for the root and CWM using the default windows tool. Anyway, I've fixed it now. I couldn't find a .tar to do the job so I converted a random file to a .tar and flashed it that way, tricking it into thinking it had a recovery and therefore booting. In the OS I used ROM Manager to get CWM.
