Dual core support again? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am using Vegan Ginger, and feel it is less responsive than Nexus one running 2.3.3. I checked the article from androidevolutions.com
It seems to indicate dual core is really used after Froyo.
Then I checked Vegan Ginger runtime, it ONLY list one set of migration / watchdog / ksoftirqd as below. This leads me to think only one core is used????
For a SMP system, for each core kernel is managing, there should be one set of those threads though as I understand.
USER PID PPID VSIZE RSS WCHAN PC NAME
root 1 0 296 204 c0166c94 0000875c S /init
root 2 0 0 0 c00e4c70 00000000 S kthreadd
root 3 2 0 0 c00c2c08 00000000 S migration/0
root 4 2 0 0 c00ceb08 00000000 S ksoftirqd/0
root 5 2 0 0 c0103dd0 00000000 S watchdog/0
root 9 2 0 0 c00e0364 00000000 S events/0
root 11 2 0 0 c00e0364 00000000 S khelper
MAYBE just Vegan Ginger version isn't using dual core while stock does? I noticed the kernel is built with SMP and PREEMPT, but when kernel start up, it seems not recognize two cores available though.
Please help to clarify?
Thanks.

I don't think any rom is using both cores, yet. From what I hear, even the xoom doesn't use both.

So that means Tegra 2 is a dual core processor in design. But Linux is using it as single core processor.
I understand Android framework is using multiple threads, but only one UI thread to handle events. Also, many application not designed in a way to use multiple threads.
However, if kernel detect multiple cores, then different threads could run at the same time in different cores, this is purpose for multiple core design.
cat /proc/cpuinfo, I can only see one CPU as well.
I suspect this is the build issue, XOOM is more responsive when I tried it in store.

Who has unlocked Hero locked Orange (UK)?

Hello,
some of us who have bought a Hero locked to Orange can't seem to get it unlocked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555424).
For those have you who have managed to successfully unlock an Hero on Orange please can you advise on your experience- did you have to do something differently? And who you used to get the code? I have used Unlock Now (www.unlock-now.com) but the code they have supplied didn't work (they refunded me).
I have never had a problem unlocking a HTC phone until now and I find it hard to believe that Orange Heros can't be unlocked.
Please help if you can.

[Update 16/10/09]
I am glad this thread has been of use to people.
I thought I would add and update to the first page so people don't have to wade through the whole thread.
If you are experiencing this issue you have two choices:
1)CID unlock your Hero (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559806).
2)Use a Rebel II Sim.
OK there are three choices.
3) Use your Hero on an Orange contract for about three months then ring up Orange and ask them for a unlock code. They will charge about £20 for it and you may have to wait up to two weeks for em to send it.
C'est tout.

[Update 24/10/09]
OK, after discussions and PM's on this thread I was advised to use the code I had previously bought with a different rom (when I first got my Hero tried it I was using the Orange stock rom then Modacos 2.3).
I just tested it now, took out my rebel sim put in the code and it works! I am currently using Modaco's 2.8.
Hope this helps.
I used http://hero.unlock-now.com/sim-unlock-HTC-Hero/ and the code worked for me. I did get my Hero within a few days of release. My work collegue also did the same with no problems.
What network do you use your hero on now?
hi i bought one locked to orange uk and unlocked it here
http://www.simunlock-htchero.com/buy.html
i received the code in 2 minutes and it worked, i use now Optimus in Portugal
Got my second one (for the wife) off eBay a week or two back. Poster claimed it was days old. Unlocked through htcunlock fine. Three sim seems to work better with Orange radio than the tmobile hero I purchased earlier.
Zuber
RetroFlux: I'm now on o2 after my unlock.
i'm getting the same thing with my orange locked hero, I have even tried a foreign sim as suggested. But does not seem to unlock with the correct unlock code. Is there a cable method for unlocking?
I have the same problem.
First case:
Turn on the phone with orange SIM card - everything works fine.
Turn on the phone with any other SIM card (I actually tried 3 other SIM card from 3 different providers). It asks unlock code. Enter unlock code I bought (actually any code containing 8 digits) it says "Network unlock successful." But after that it allow only emergency calls and if I try to make a call I see "Not registered in network" message. After reboot it asks unlock code again.
Second case:
If I do "restore to factory defaults" and turn it on the first time with my (no orange) SIM card, it asks unlock code I enter correct unlock code (salesman gave me one, and after that I also bought the same code in the Internet )
it hangs with phrase "Unlocking SIM card...". (Actually "turn off menu" works, I even can make an emergency call, but that is all I can get from it)
Also I noticed that in the first case there is strange line on the bottom of the screen (of the size of the notification bar).
I have tried different ROMS (original, rooted, latest, modacos) all the same. I also tried to downgrade radio firmware. I even tried all SIM cards I can obtain, the problem is obviously doesn't caused by SIM/Network incompatibility. Btw, my SIM card works OK in another HTC Hero (which was bought with my one).
I think it is problem with unlock procedure itself, not with code correctness. If wrong code entered it must say something like "wrong code", but for any 8 digit code it says "Network unlock successful". Is is the symptom! )
I do not know what to do further
I got a (UK) Orange Hero about 3 weeks ago from dial-a-phone. Unlocked it without a problem about a week later from:
http://hero.unlock-now.com/sim-unlock-HTC-Hero/
Took about 20 mins and worked 1st time. Now running with an UK O2 sim. Sorry!
As I mentioned above, while first boot with my local SIM card it hangs with "Unlocking SIM card..." message. At this time I see the following processes running.

Im having the same issue, I got a new HTC Hero on Orange today, and it wont unlock. I used Unlock-now, so I have sent them a message asking for my money back, will that suffice. Has anyone been able to get there Orange UK, branded and locked phones unlocked.
nintendolinky, what is your ROM version ? There may be a possibility you have the latest firmware build... maybe...
i'm in the same boat! bought the code but no joy. it say's unlocked but could not register my voda sim. Anyone?
I tried to contact Orange today to buy an unlock code from them directly, after been passed about I eventually got through to someone bureaucratic wench who was completely unhelpful and I ended up telling them to F off and hung up. Kind of shot myself in the foot there.
I know this doesn't help our situation but I am still looking into it.

So are you saying there is an issue with the new firmware? When you say firmware do you mean ROM? As I have already flashed Modacos latest ROM and my Three/Vodafone/O2 sim still won't work.
I don't have my Hero with me at the moment but will post back my firmware number later, if other people (who are having the same issue) can post theirs maybe we can find a common firmware at fault.

Ok, here are my firmware details:
Firmware version: 1.5
Baseband Version: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-8dd6deee [email protected]
Build Number: 2.73.405.5 146733 CL#61267 MCR2.2c release keys
Software Version: 1.0.0.A6288
Someone out there must be able to help fix this, pros/cooks/anyone can you shed anylight on this?
I've tried oldest/newes/custom ROMs, it looks like unlocking procedure doesn't depend on ROM at all.
is there a way to unlock this via cable? what about flashing the rom?
my build number is
Build Number: 1.76.61.3 whats the difference with this and Build Number: 2.73.405.5?
Here is my info:

Bricked? TV Box

Hi,
I bought an Andorid media player. It isin't very clear who made it. It has a kingzer case but cannot find the case or any info on it on their website. It was made rooted I wanted to unroot it so I could run media apps properly. I then tried to install CWM spesifcally "CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2 for Allwinner A10 LY-F1/TREQ Tablets" thread on xda-developers. Its an Allwinner A10. So I got it to install but when I boot up my media box now I get CWM screen 4 times on my tv and its all pink saying
E: Can't mount /sdcard/
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
The buttons on the front of my media box only move the selection up and down cannot actually "select" anything. I have tried ADB it appears as "20080411 recovery" however when I try to fastboot it and do fastboot devices nothing appears. Iv tried both windows 7 and Linux Mint. I have no idea what to do. Id rather not just throw it away as scrap cost me £100. Below are the specs I got from the device before hand.

Perhaps others can, but from what you have posted, I have no idea which box you have.
A picture of the device, and better yet, a picture of the circuit board may help.
Then perhaps someone on these forums can identify it and point you to a ROM (Firmware) that you can load.
Lots of these things are sold under different names, so installing a new firmware may "re-brand" it, but at least you'll (hopefully) have a working device.

[Q] Turbo X Hive IV - root, custom rom needed, help

I bought this tablet in Greece named Turbo X Hive IV, a brand from Plaisio Store! A very nice tablet but I cant find any proper information about rooting it besides a thread about the previous model. I managed to install Gmail and Google Play, as it only had slideme under the name "plaisio market".
The technical information are the following
Turbo X Hive IV, 10.1", 1280 x 800 pixels, IPS panel, Front camera 0.3 mp, back camera 5mp, android 4.2.2, CPU QuadCore-A31 Series at 1.2 GH, Internal storage 16GB, Ram - 1GB, Wifi, Bluetooth, Mini HDMI, Micro USB 2.0 Micro usb 2.0 host , microSD card slot, Li-Ion 6000 mah
Model M10A9
Firmware 3.2_2013704
Kernel 3.3.0 [email protected] #4
My Questions:
1. I dont know if the device is rooted, I want some guidance how to check it.
2. Another thing I want to know is why cant I find anywhere how to set different user accounts (not different gmail accounts under the same user account). Is it locked or hidden ?
3. Is there any other Cyanogenmod or other custom rom that works with this tablet ?
If anyone wants pictures of the tablet I ll upload some.
Thanks,

I got the same tablet for about 10 days now.
How did you manage to get play services work?
I only managed to get the old market work, can you give me the link to the app?
Rooting to a pure android would be great, any time ideas what rom would work?
Manufacturer seems to be Somy.
Same Problem
Has anyone found a solution on which ROM to install on the Turbo-X Hive IV?
(or Somy M10A9...)
I haven't found anything yet...
Same problem
Please if you find something, help!
Need rooting for Turbo X Hive IV (the device is not rooted).
That's what I get when I do system analysis:

Which one did nt' work for you?
Rooting?
GPlay & Gmail ?
Multi user?
Did you follow the steps one by one ?
Do you have the 3G Hive IV ?
Tried it with 2 different Turbo X Hive IV (not 3G) tablets and it worked fine!

When I try to run superSU I get a message saying 《There is no SU binary installed And SU cannot install it. This is a problem!》
Download Framaroot, install, run and select the first option. Reboot, run again and select the second option. Reboot and the tablet is rooted.
Visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893410&page=16 and follow the instructions at post #159 to install Google Services and Google Play to the Tablet.

Have you tried it with the specified Android tablets? Did it worked? Can you send an image proving it ?
Thanks anyway!
I have tried it, i have rooted 3 tablets in my company and i have installed Google Play on them. I cannot send you an image, since i do not have the tablets with me anymore, our sales people use them, but i can help you if you need something on the process. In fact, it is very-very easy to do it. Download and install framaroot, run it and select the only option visible. Reboot and run it again, you will have a second option, select it and reboot again-you are rooted!
Possible malfunction of framaroot

Thanks for your help and time ! I tried to use framaroot but didn't work. After installation, the only visible option was "Aragorn", which I pressed but a message popped up saying that root was unsuccesful unfortunately no other options to press on main screen. Any other suggestions? I am open to anything, just help me root this disappointing product. Thanks again for your time
Reboot, run Framaroot again and then you will have the second option (boromir i think). Select Boromir and reboot again, finished!!!

hi .... i really want custom rom for this tablet ... any idea ?
Hello,I know that this thread is very old,but before one year, I tried to flash a custom recovery on my turbo x hive iv tablet, the
TWRP for Android One Second Generation MTK with code name seedmtk, because I thought it would work since my tablet was a mediatek device, but I falsely flashed the recovery on both boot and recovery partitions and bricked both recovery and boot modes.I want to mention though that I have partial access to fastboot mode (I have installed also mtk drivers) and it seems that I can't flash to recovery partition, but I can flash on boot, so all I want from everyone here if it's possible, is the stock boot.img of this tablet because I'm almost sure that it will boot since system partition is not broken and it was booting before I flash on boot partition without recovery or factory mode though.
Anyway, with a few words if you bored of reading this,I want the boot + recovery.img if it's possible,I know this tablet can't do many things, but I would like to fix it.

[Q] Permanently high cpu load on my LT22i

Hello all,
I got a Sony Xperia P (LT22i) last christmas and I have been using a freexperia built ROM ever since. The ROM uses a Cyanogenmod 4.0.4 internally. Unfortunately my phone is often quite slow to respond to user input up to the point where it doesnt even unlock the screen when I press the button. If I use htop via adb I see the following:
Mem: 798852K used, 21644K free, 0K shrd, 17748K buff, 306296K cached

The system_server seems to use up the entire CPU time causing my problems. Is there a way to fix the problem, if yes, who would I talk to about this?
Alternatively I would like to use another ROM. I have heard that my device has some quirks making it very hard to use most ROMs (most notably a broken audio driver?). For this reason I originally chose the freexperia builds despite the fact that that android version is not exactly up-to-date.
Is there another ROM that will work properly with my device?
Also I would like to know how to back up the relevant data: When I installed the current ROM, android wouldn't start until I reset the device and wiped the data in the process. I dislike every kind of backup that uses "the cloud" for obvious reasons. I just want to copy the data onto my laptop via USB (without using an App, free or not). I tried using "adb backup" but I am not sure which options I have to select to obtain the relevant data without having a >> 1 GB size BLOB on my laptop. Any ideas about that?
You would have more luck looking in your device specific subforum instead of general area.

Community effort to root Galaxy Mega I527/I527M without tripping Knox

Hello all,
I would like to gather a group of people who want to participate in towelrooting SGH-I527M (or SGH-527). If you look at https://towelroot.com/modstrings.html, you can see there are quite a lot of combinations to test and it's tedious. As this is a safe root, no harm can be done whatsoever. So whoever wants to participate, let's get it done. You'll be assigned with at most 100 patterns to test.
There are a whole lot of 1,048,576 combinations, that is 4 * 2 * 8192 * 8 * 2. But as we are not looking for temporary root and only a multiple of 4, it is reduced down to about 131,072 combinations. Let's do this. It's been long time no results!
Ok I'll be the first to report back. Interestingly, I realized tr need internet connection to work! ? as it says " please make sure connected to internet!". Also, I found that the time it takes to reboot for some patterns is longer than others.
R means Rebooted, NS means Not Supported.
The following are results:
Here are first simple batches. They all made my i527m reboot!
Code:
1337 0 0 7380 4 0
1337 0 1 7380 4 0
1337 1 0 7380 4 0
1337 1 1 7380 4 0
1337 2 0 7380 4 0
1337 2 1 7380 4 0
1337 3 0 7380 4 0
1337 3 1 7380 4 0
Here is the second batch playing with the hit_iov byte and 7380 constant:
Code:
1337 0 0 7380 0 0 R (it took a looong time to reboot)
1337 0 1 7380 0 0 R
1337 0 0 7380 1 0 R
1337 0 1 7380 1 0 R
1337 0 0 7380 2 0 R
1337 0 1 7380 2 0 R
1337 0 0 7380 3 0 R
1337 0 1 7380 3 0 R
1337 0 0 7380 5 0 R
1337 0 1 7380 5 0 R
1337 0 0 7380 6 0 R
1337 0 1 7380 6 0 R
1337 0 0 7380 7 0 R
1337 0 1 7380 7 0 R
After these two "recommended" batches, here are others:
Code:
1337 0 0 0 4 0 R
1337 0 1 0 4 0 NS
1337 1 0 0 4 0 NS
1337 1 1 0 4 0 NS
1337 2 0 0 4 0 NS
1337 2 1 0 4 0 NS
1337 3 0 0 4 0 NS
1337 3 1 0 4 0 NS
The bit at the end is pointless here (temporary or permanent rooting)... they all make it reboot too.
For future reference: tried KingRoot.net and it doesn't work. I think the Chinese guys used towelroot in their program as my phone restarted when I ran it!
Unsuccessful methods I used so far:
- framaroot
- iroot
- roomtmaster
- Kingroot
- Kingo Root
Wow, this phone is a beast!!! Later models have been rooted in a breeze, but this guy NO!
Update: After seeing this post about KNOX (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50654021&postcount=207), I am so scared!
stupid question
what is the benifit of rooting without tripping knox vs rooting and having knox trip?
on the 527m canadian phone ive been tripped for a long time. honestly all my samsung phones are second hand
and i root them all with recovery and flashing supersu. and knox is tripped on them all.
im so glad that only the US carriers are locking down the phones with knox
and samsung will lose a customer when that happens in canada.
Well, I agree the whole concept of Knox is stupid. We as customers will do what we want with devices we paid for and the more they lock it down, the more aggressive and creative we hackers become! so...
back to your question, to be honest, just for test, I intentionally left one device as virgin as possible for future and testing, and believe it or not, this has been the first device that I have had for more than a few hours and not jumped to rooting it... Plus there MIGHT be some Knox software for my company, so that's why I haven't touched my Mega. I love it to pieces honestly. It's just that sweet spot. I do not care about fancy pancy specs any more. It's just a game for money and stuff... like a band wagon of $ and I'm out of it.
TL;DR: I kept this Mega untouched, to defeat the Knox tripping if I can.

Why don't you try 360 root app ?
Won'y any normal rooting app will work this ? i mean rooting this device is something different from rooting other android devices. You can download the 360 root app from : 360rootdownload.info
