Hey guys, I followed one of the tutorials on how to unroot your EVO 3D and bring it back to stock. Before I unrooted my phone, I kept getting a notification that an OTA update was available, specifically version 2.08.651.2 (August 18, 2011). Right now, my software number is 1.11.651.2. I want to update to the newer version, but when I go to Settings > System updates > HTC software update > Check now, it shows no updates are available. I've tried rebooting the phone and checking repeatedly. I'm kinda lost here and not sure what to do. I was wondering if the PG86IMG I downloaded to return to stock disabled OTA updates, but I highly doubt that since it's just a stock image. If I could find a download link to the updates, I could apply them manually through the bootloader. If not, I might suck it up and take my phone into Sprint and get them to see what's up and update my phone there. Either way, what do you think I should do? I want it updated though. Thanks in advance.
so u unrooted using the approved method and then tried to update to 2.3.4 via HTC but it would'nt find the update? Just wanna make sure u know that if u take this update ur only option is to root via HTC's unlocked bootloader which isn't a true unlock... secondly if that is ur desire and the stock image won't find the update then i would check ur source and make sure it's not missing something. I turned off my update check cuz once it checks and finds an update that little icon stays in ur taskbar unless u factory reset and i was waiting to root with teamwin's method so i didn't take the update. if i knew how to pull the image without updating id post it for ya...
Yes sir! I understand that updating my software to version 2.8.651.2 will prevent my phone from being rootable until somebody figures out a method to make it rootable. I have no need for rooting my phone actually. I tried out a few roms, and I would rather stick with a stock unrooted rom in case I ever need to take my phone into Sprint for service. The Sprint store where I live won't do any service to a rooted phone, so I need to be on the safe side. I went to the store today, and unfortunately the only people available at the time were sales representatives, so they were of no help. They just told me to wait and keep trying to update the phone periodically. If it doesn't show any updates within the next month, my only choices will be to either call Sprint and see if they can push the update to my phone or find an update image, transfer it to my phone, and manually update it through the bootloader. I also read on an EVO 4G thread that the phone won't update if it's missing SprintUpdater.apk. I doubt a stock rom would be missing that app though. I had the update notification when I was rooted, but I didn't download it because it would break my root, and now that I'm completely back to stock, I should get the notification. What gives? I wish Sprint would send out the updates all at once instead of in waves. Anybody wanna chime in?

Having the same problem. But i havent tried unrooting the phone.
Hey everyone, I am new to the rooting world however I have only experienced good things. I decided to root my thunderbolt using TB Autoroot+htc sync last night(had the original stock froyo, was going to installed cyanogen mod 7) and was successful. Unfortunately, I then installed the leaked 2.3.4 RUU GB which rerooted my TB before I installed the cm7(wanted to try the RUU out, bad idea lol). I was wondering if all or any of these are possible (dont care about losing data, just don't want to brick, ie avoiding command lines if possible):
1. root the phone while maintaining the leaked 2.3.4 RUU, just as was done for FROYO? Original reason for rooting was to remove the bloatware apps, but not having custom roms would be ok at this point if that is this is the only option. I know there is the revolution method to root, however will that work on the leaked 2.3.4 RUU?
2. root the tb with my current 2.3.4 RUU and install the BAMF 2.3.4/sense 3.0 GB build, or some other custom 2.3.4 rom?
A tutorial or walk through would be great! I know there are some out there, however I am looking for one specifically for those that have the leaked 2.3.4 RUU on the thunderbolt.
Also, can someone explain the difference in features of the GB builds that have been out for some time(customs) vs the RUU by verizon? I'm not talking about the physical aspects or the apps that come with, but more in terms of installing/switching between them. I know I need to root in order to install the custom roms, but assuming i can root the 2.3.4 RUU, will I be able to install any other 2.3.4 rom such as BAMF or cyanogen without problems? I have heard that you just arent allowed to go backwards, ie back to Froyo one you update to GB, but I should be able to install any 2.3.4 GB ROM once rooted via the bootloader(power+volume down) True?
Any help would be great! Thanks!
Yes you can. Just use revolutionary to root the new GB build. Here is a video tutorial for you.
Well, here comes your first less than pleasant reply...
Pretty much everything you wanted to know is posted in my thread stickied in the Q&A section. That's also where this post is going to end up. Please check my thread on basic noob questions, search before posting, and post in the correct forum.

If you are rooted, just use a program like root explorer to search for a file called otacerts.zip and rename it to otacerts.bak
When you open root explorer, make sure to put it into write mode. look at the top left side of the program and press on the mount r/w option
Cant find rom

If you used your phone to download a rom, its in the "download" folder, move it to the root of sd card

Root Error
I am trying to Root my Thunderbolt but keep getting the following error:
Failed to get Root!
I am using revolutionary.
I have installed, made sure their was a connection, and then removed HTC Sync.
I downloaded and installed Android USB Drivers.
I selected USB Debugging
Thunderbolt Info:
HBOOT 1.04.000
Android 2.3.4
ROM Ver 2.11.605.9
What am I missing and where can I get it? Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance...
I've never rooted but I believe you need to downgrade. Revolutionary does not work with the latest OTA. There are several posts around that explain how to downgrade to the previous OTA (link below). Then you should be able to use the revolutionary method.

Yes you need to downgrade to 2.11.605.5 then use reveloutionary
Hi all,
My AT&T Atrix is running 4.5.91. I unrooted it to update to 4.5.141 OTA (I understood it was risky to do an OTA update while rooted).
After I finished downloading the update, I started installing but during installation, the package icon changed to a warning icon (with no error message) and the phone rebooted on 4.5.91 with a message saying the update failed
I think the package may have been corrupted in the download as it was interrupted. Although, I did try this 3 times (redownloading each time)
Any tips?
Thanks
You must have frozen and/or deleted some Blur apps as well as being rooted. Unless you have all the stock files from the firmware you are updating from, the install will fail.
I have unrooted the phone
However, I did use the "integrate system apps updates into ROM" option on TB.
I did not freeze anything
Will this work:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Atrix+Upgrade/Atrix-Gingerbread-Update
If not, what must I do?
Edit: Oh, and I also have AdFree installed and enabled. Should I revert?

The sd card method will fail for you as well. Undo everything that required root access, including adfree...not sure if it will restore the modified files back to stock though, never used that app.
Exactly what happened to me. Successfully updated using Motorola Software Update
Hi
You have succeeded?
I am stuck for months trying to do this update...
It's absolutely frustrating...
I actually stopped trying. I got a RAZR a few weeks after I started this thread...
I might unlock the BL and install some ROMs to play with the Atrix but basically I don't use it anymore...
Anyway, I think the problem I was having was because I integrated updates into the ROM and I don't think it can be undone
Bootloader Unlocked?
If your bootloader is unlocked the update will most likely not work. Regardless, the link below has some useful information.

So i really need some help with this. My phone, like any other g3, had in the settings an option in the general tab for checking for updates. Well now for some reason that option is completely gone. And if Verizon does push out a Lollipop update i want to get it but i wont be able too because A. I'm rooted and i have custom recovery B. I no longer have any option choice for checking for updates C. Even if i try to do an ota update ill get caught in a boot loop. Now i remember at one point in time i did this trick i learned from here to get rid of the OTA update file/ notification but i didn't think that that would cause my phone to lose its option to check for system updates. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me.
Thanks

Use the return to stock thread in the general forum. You need to be stock to get the update anyway, so there is no point in not doing it.
Dial ##3328873 ,send
Type

Second from the bottom on my phone
Check the ota option
But like you were told u should either flash back using tot or
Using your computer and LG mobile support tool or bzw upgrade assistant. Not the ota upgrade.
