[Q] Photos' quality - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Could you explain me, how can I get best possible quality of photos ? I mean, I can read here and there, that X10 has got really, really good camera with 8MP and so on.
Thruth is, though, that I can't get any photos with reasonable quality. I mean picture is blurred and in locations inside house, photos are rather dark.
I really like this phone but I also have HD2 with Android and looking at picture quality of photos made on these two phones I'm positive that HD2 makes far better ones (in spite of its worse specs).

Buy vignette software -with the appropriate settings and a bit of picture taking practice by you(you need to learn how to use it properly).
You can produce high quality pictures with vignette, much better than stock camera app that comes with phone.

Or best of all, use this camera mod thanks do 28spawn

Thans for advices. I'm using camera mod v10 but it's still not quite what it should be. Maybe I just must get used to

Try fxcamera or 360camera from market. Both are better than stock.

vignette is the best by far

Use spawns but use touch to capture mode it made my pics much clearer since it was really easy to hold the camera still

I think that in the X10's case, the phone's camera hardware is better in quality than the stock camera software.
I too had lots of high hopes for the built-in Sony Ericsson camera app. Unfortunately, although many of the pictures I took seemed to look okay on the phone screen, they were actually terrible when a computer or HDTV screen revealed the blurriness of them all. The speed in which the app captures an image is just too slow, particularly if I tried using the actual camera button on the phone. Even with image stabilization enabled, I would rarely get a decent picture. Using the touch capture feature helps a little, but not much. Taking pictures indoors generally yields the worst results. I've taken some good shots outdoors as long as the lighting is bright.
My favorite camera app is Vignette. With so many options to choose from and so many high-quality effects, it is the best one out of the few I've tried off the Android Market. The only thing I don't like about Vignette is that by going full resolution plus using its 'superfine' quality mode, it can take a while to process after you've taken a shot and start to save.
We're not alone in the hard-to-use stock camera app department, though. My girlfriend has an HTC EVO 4G (known also as the HTC Supesonic), and the indoor pictures she takes with her stock app often has similar blurriness issues as the X10.
I still use my Sony DSC-W290 or DSC-TX7 point-and-shoot cameras if I want better quality, but the X10 and Vignette will do in a pinch.

Thank you very much for all the answers. I'll try vignette, fx, 360 and spawns. Hope it will change my current opinion, which is similar to xdadevelopers1222's point of view

Horrible camera quality

When I bought the phone I saw that the camera was not taking quality pictures but i thought maybe it's a software problem.
It had Android 1.6 and upgraded via SEUS to 2.1 and no luck.
I tried different camera software and still no change.
The images have no detail, they are blurry, I googled to see how other X10 takes photos and there is no comparison with what I have.
Don't know what to do, is there anywhere I can buy a spare camera ? is the solution is so radical.
What are your camera settings you have on your phone now?

Photon Camera Issue - Indoors

So I am loving my photon. Have had it since launch day, and the one thing I am less than happy with is the camera performance indoors. Both my epic and evo shift 4g took good pictures indoors, but it seems pretty hit and miss with me and the photon. I cant decide if I should return it and wait for the Galaxy S2 or if maybe they will improve the camera software in an update.
Example as to what I mean with the pictures.
I took a picture, with flash on and settings in auto on my friends atrix, and side by side with my photon. The picture looked more natural on his screen, but on mine, the colors were weird and it wasn't focused very well.
Thoughts?
Only giving my opinion because no one has answered this yet.
I have noticed that the camera is not great indoors. However, one must remember that indoor shots are difficult even with good cameras because of the low light.
But since you are comparing your shots to another phone, all I can say is that hardware is different. Hard to say what is causing it and whether or not the camera on the Atrix is really better.
What I would do if it was me as a first step is to call Motorola and ask them why the camera sucks compared to the Atrix and see what they say. Maybe someone can shed some light on things.
If not, might just have to bite the bullet and buy an app such as Vignette from the Market if you can't get the satisfactory settings on the stock camera app. It might have some set profiles you can use that would make the pictures come out much better. I did see that someone posted taking pictures on the Photon with Vignette produced really good pics but don't know where the shots were taken.
Again, I'm not that knowledgeable on this so these are just suggestions.
I think it's because the flash is less than white. I think it actually gives a more natural picture and looks less like a flash was used. You can edit the photo after you have taken it on the phone. Moto built in some decent editing software in the gallery view.

The Photon actually takes the photo before it finishes focusing causing pics to look really bad. Having played with several Photons, I decided to just use Vignette (from the market) instead. Pics now look outstanding.
My comparisons were done between EVO 4G & MoPho. Hope that helps.
I would say that my HTC Heroc's camera is better then the MoPho which is a big disappointment. It's also worse the the Evo 3D's which I played with for a month. The crappy pictures aren't just indoor, they also aren't very good on clouldy days. Is there a better camera app out there that can take nicer pictures or any roms that have camera tweaks?

Try Vignette from the Market.
sorry bro.....photon....ergggg....all moto devices always have the wroste camera on phones soo :S....you have no lucky to that
I just downloaded the free version of vignette and the photos are much worse than the stock camera. I mean real bad. Is the free version not so good?
Photos colors are way off.
vignette free sucks because it only saves effects in .3mp, however the full version can take forever to process the effects. luckily you can just keep taking pictures and it processes in the background. btw vignette is better than stock.

Vignette only helps so far. What we need is an update from Motorola that addresses the camera issues. But Motorola is silent when it comes to the camera...
I have recently been looking at the photos out of the Nokia N8. If only my MoPho could take images like that!

Our photon comes with really great effects too just press menu then edit than advance
Its the screen resolution of the photon that makes it look different take download the pictures to a computer from both phones and sompare them side by side and you will see that the photon takes a way better pictures, the difference is in the screen,

The problem I have with the default camera app is that on anything but the brightest of sunny days everything looks blurry. Vignette seems to be much better in that regard. At least inside pictures are fairly sharp.
I'm really feeling Camera ZOOM FX right now, pictures are really nice and sharp indoors. The steady shot give you a readout of the accelerometer and wont take the picture unless you've been stead for 0.5 , 1 or 2 seconds. It's $0.10 on the market today and I would strongly recommend it. The only problem is you don't seem to be able to change picture quality settings.
Camera ZOOM FX
+1 just got camera zoom..lovin it.

I use camera zoom since i got my photon the default camera app is really ****ty i guess that the difference should be the way the picture is procesed

I find the Photon camera pretty decent, actually is the best camera I ever had on a phone. For the low light issue thing I would just like to say that it does not take the greatest pic on low light conditions but what actually makes it worse is the Pentile display (and I'm not saying is not a good display like most people), because if you transfer your pictures to your computer you can actually see that the pictures aren't as bad as they seems when you view them in your Photon.
As for camera apps I use Camera360 Ultimate and HDR Camera+
I really don't like camera zoom because you can't save pictures in actual resolutions. (at least when I used I couldn't get them) Maybe they fixed that now.?

Camera App for Text

Ok, So the stock camera app isn't that great. Can anyone recommend a good camera app specifically for capturing text(or maybe settings)? not worried about OCR, just want the text to come out clear.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I love the stock app but it's not for everyone. Best app in the market is Camera Zoom fx. Used it on my Captivate after going to CyanogenMod as the vanilla android camera sucks imo. It is a paid app and I'm not sure how much it costs as I got mine from the 10 cent sale in December

it works great on the flyer too. Used it on Gumbys desensified rom too as I didn't care for the aosp camera. One thing though if you want wide screen with zoom fx, 3.2mp is as high as you can go, where the htc app will go all the way to 5

I think the HTC camera app is quite good , but it depends on exactly what you are trying to do, which is not really clear. The HTC apps gives you control of all the settings which you may lose on some apps. Can you describe what the problem is exactly. There are some specialty apps for documents that has post processing that might help
The stock camera is better than alot of camera apps, however when i take a picture of text, some area's tend to be blurry and zooming in makes them worse. The depth of field is bad, but i assume that is mainly a hardware thing? Camera Zoom FX works slightly better, text is more readable and you can zoom in a little without blurring it.

Depth of filed is related to the lens and aperture and has nothing to do with software other than you can adjust some parameters to make it more or less.
Zoom will always make resolution worse because there is no optical zoom and when you"zoom" you are doing it digitally and getting less resolution. 3.2mp can never be as good as 5mp so I assume you are simply holding the camera more steady and the app has little to do with it.
Try this. on the stock app, change the effect to depth of field, set the ISO to 100 if you have enough light or 200 if you need more brightness. Do not zoom.
You will have to hold very steady and straight. Watch the focus, it won't focus is you are too close to the subject.

Ok, that settings do work slightly better, still not the greatest, im just going to write this off to the hardware component.
A few years ago my friend had this phone http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_j105_naite-2818.php
The camera was amazing, only 2MP but took really good pics.
Well I"m still not sure what you are trying to do, but I get consistently fine results with the flyer using the app Scan2PDF for documents. The Flyer does not have a flash, so you have to make sure you have good light without shadows. Otherwise the camera in the flyer is as good or better than most tablets and phones. Like any camera , even $3000 DSLRS, when you do closeups, the depth of field is very short.
Ok, say for instance when im studying, my textbooks are like 1k pages and it takes up space when its open and its an effort to navigate; i take a pic of a page or 2 and it makes it easier to work with. Thing is, it doesn't come out very great. If i take a pic of the whole page, some parts are less readable, almost like it doesn't focus the whole thing. If i take a pic of a paragraph, then it comes out fine. It doesn't seems as clear as it should be for a 5MP camera. Again, i think its just the hardware.
Yeah most of the reviews of the flyer were great but it got knocked on the camera.

I think that CamScanner is one of the best apps for your purpose. It's free, and it automatically does a lot of image post processing to give you the clear text you are looking for, alongside cropping out the background, etc.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using XDA Premium HD app
the more light you provide the greater the depth of field will be, but you still need to have the subject flat and evenly lighted. Same for any camera, if you cant provide a reasonable subject, the camera cannot defy the laws of physics.

Volume on recorded video low and tinny

I'm very interested in purchasing this phone and camera/video is important to me. I see in other threads that the still photo quality can be improved through software but what about audio of recorded videos? Every YouTube sample video that I've seen you can barely hear the audio and it is very thin sounding. For those that have the phone, any comments on audio recorded through the video camera and how to improve it?
Phone seems awesome otherwise.

They are not the most important thing. I'm not a fan of IOS or Windows phone. Looking for the overall best android package. Display, Reception, Performance, Camera, and others are all factors. I think I understand the limitations of the phone for the most part. Trying to characterize the video quality by getting input from owners.

Dare I state the obvious? Get whichever 'phone you like as a 'phone, then go out and spend $100 on a dedicated point-and-shoot camera.
No matter how bad a point-and-shoot camera is, it'll still be better than the best mobile 'phone camera on the market today, for the simple fact that a tiny lens (used out of necessity in 'phones) will never be able to match the visual clarity of a proper lens.
I'll only ever use my 'phone camera for taking very crude snapshots to remind myself of things (like the serial numbers of equipment I'm repairing). If I need to take an impromptu photo, I'll use my Panasonic point-and-shoot with Leica lens. If I need to take a proper photo, I'll use my Konica-Minolta DSLR.
Much like buying a bicycle and expecting it to propel you along at highway speeds, I think people're expecting a little too much of the tiny lenses and sensors in mobile 'phones. Be thankful that they're there, but don't ever expect them to be proper photographic tools.
BTW, sorry if this sounds like a dig at you - it's not - it's merely the culmination of spending too much time reading people's expectations of not-meant-for-anything-but-happy-snaps cameras.
I understand what you are saying. Just trying to figure out if the volume of the videos taken is as loud as it gets (per you tube videos/ at the store) or if there is some sort of workaround available. Hopefully someone with first hand knowledge can chime in.

You can fix all the problems of the default camera by using 3rd party software. Presently I'm using Camera 360 Ultimate to take still shots and Camera ZOOM FX to take video (360 doesn't take video). DON'T use the crapware that comes from HTC.
For video playback, use MX Player. After installation, check all boxes under hardware encoding. Change the CPU cores to 4 and the color depth to 32-bit. Click on a movie to start playback then go into settings. Turn the brightness all the way up and Walla! Crystal clear, beautifully colored movie watching!

[Q] Anyone having camera issues?

So for me, don't get me wrong, during daylight this camera is awesome, but at night time or during some lower light items, this camera doesn't look too hot. For example I went to a theater performance and took some pictures with my Note 3, my date took pictures with her iPhone 5 and her pictures of the stage and actors turned out real well whereas mine with the stock camera app and Camera Zoom FX just looked washed out and not that good. I can't say I had this issue with my S3 either because i was able to take pretty good pictures with that camera. Any ideas on how I can optimize my camera taking skills here? I'm not a noob with the cameras either, it's just frustrating being hit or miss on pictures you know? Help would be greatly appreciated!
I find that the stock camera app leaves a bit to be desired. Especially for low light , action, or macro shots. There are some very nice paid cameras like camera fv-5. I actually also like ucam for a free camera.

Low light situations and no OIS requires a very steady hand..Not much else you can do man it kinda is what it is.
