Unit shutting down/unresponsive in dock - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running the latest viewsonic firmware available via update. I had to flash it via the SD card as the update kept failing... that was a while ago.
I got the dock and it works, but i have a couple of issues i can't resolve.
If i leave it in the dock set to screen timeout after 30 minutes, I usually can't wake it up. I have to hold the power button for about 30 seconds and then it boots.
If it does wakeup in dock, maybe i test it right after it sleeps, many times wifi won't reconnect, even though wifi is set to never sleep. wifi locks up during wifi off, so i have to power cycle.
If i put in dock and set screen to never sleep, all seems to work fine but i don't want to leave it on all the time.
Should i do an NVflash back to complete stock? I had problems with the last update with clockwork. If i try to do a reset from the OS it just hangs and never resets. Boots back to all my data.
Thanks for any advice.

G Tablet shuts down after going to sleep

Has anyone had any issue with the G Tablet shutting down after it goes to sleep? Right now I am running virtually stock (rooted with latest VS update). If I leave the tablet for 10 minutes the screen will shut off as expected, but when I try to wake it by hitting the power momentarily the tablet does nothing. If I press power for a few seconds the tablet boots up as it does from being completely shut down.
If I select sleep from the power off menu, I can wake it if I hit the power button or home button, but only if I do it within about 30 seconds. If I wait any longer, it seems to shutdown. I don't see any settings anywhere for this.
Other than this, everything else seems fine. About the only other thing I can think to mention is I did flash to tnt lite 2.02 and had to recover due to boot loops. I've reset, cleared data and cache, etc...
Thanks for any feedback.
Same happens to mine sometime. Currently running TNT 2.02
I've noticed this a few times also. I have no idea what's causing it. Fortunately, boot up is fast!
Same here
Not all the time, but close to half.
Plain vanilla not rooted.
mysterious fix
I had the similar problem where is shuts off half the time after pressing the sleep button. The symptom went away after installing the Miren browser. Can't explain it.
SH
This was happening to me and I tried many nvflashes and every rom so everything you can try. I exchanged mine today after a lot of research online and now for the first time it sleeps and wakes up. I am certain that there are just a few models that can not be fixed.
So happy to be able to hit the power button to have it wake up.
I recommend if you still can then exchange it for another.
My Malata Zpad does this sometimes too. I thought it was movement that did it, or the magnets on the case, but it looks to do it at random (or when something runs in the background?)
It used to do it 5-6 times a day, now that it's a week old it seems to do it maybe once or twice a day.
I am having the same problem. I do not remember this before the last update (3389).
The tablet is stock, not rooted.
I use the volume button to wake mine.
any one else having this problem? just got my g tablet today and it always shuts down when it goes to sleep
any way to fix it?
i was going to root it right away but hesitating now since it will void warranty - the shutdown after sleep is kinda annoying...thanks
Yeah I had similar issues under stock firmware but subsequent patches fixed the issue for me. Have yet tohave it happen on vegan or tnt lite roms.

Did you wipe to factory reset before going to vegan? Mine was doing that, but I never did factory wipe for subsequent vegan updates. Since I have done the clean install, never had this problem.
There are also several kernel updates which allows VPN, cifs, ntfs and other enhancement as well as higher fps.
Love my tablet.
well i only have the tablet for a few hours - and that was a problem out of the box
before installing anything i did the "wipe user data" option from the settings menue in the original/stock TnT - then logged in using Family name - and shut down to root (install CM/vegan ect)
i just downloaded and installed this: "1.0.0 Beta5.1 Link" - thats posted on the first post on the vegan thread
so didn't install any kernal updates or anything yet...if you can point me towards them and what to install i would really appreciate it - thanks
also seem to have a problem where no matter where on the homescreen i swipe down it pulls down the notification bar - any way to fix that?
my solution
I had the same problem out of the box as well. I tried using the Vegan rom with the same result. I went ahead and downloaded a free app called hibernate from the market. It puts it to sleep and allows me to wake it up like how its suppose to. As of now, it has yet to shutdown when asleep.
My ghetto fix til someone can truly id the problem with a proper solution. Hope this helps...

If you are running ADW launcher it is a "gestures" setting that can be changed in the ADW specific settings.
The ntofication bar problem was caused by adw ex launcher
Still having problems with the sleep mode thing, tried all thedelete user data and cashed deleting still no luck
Other then that I really love this tablet. So should I return it?

Mine too
I'm having this same problem....I find it hard to believe this is a "hardware" issue although I guess its possible. I'm running Vegan 5.1beta but it did it with the stock 3389 firmware too before I upgraded.
This issue is the only fatal flaw thus far I've run into, I'd love to get it resolved.

This is a "bump".
I just wanted to know if the folks with the original issue on this thread (gTab shutting down after sleep) tried my suggestion and if so did it fix the issue for them?
I had the same problem and it fixed it for me.

Freezing and Force closes

I'd just commented on how I love this phone because of how fast and smooth it is. An hour or so later, I pull my phone out to take a picture and it locks up completely, the Camera FC after about 5 minutes but then it lagged like made and literally made the phone unusable.
Holding power button did nothing, button wouldn't react but if they did it took a few minutes to register the press but then did nothing anyway.
Obviously, with not being able to remove the battery, this made things difficult to reset the phone. In the end I found that holding Up on the volume button and the power button did a reset.
The phone rebooted and seemed ok but then a few seconds later it did the same thing. Even on Home screen, scrolling along froze the phone then Xperia Activity FC'd. Some of my picutres appeared corrupt so I deleted them assuming it was those causing the issue, but I'm still getting the same problem.
Last night I restarted the phone and put it on charge and it seems fine this morning.
Out of desperation, I downloaded AVG to scan the phone. I also downloaded ATK and killed anything that didn't have a use to see if that helped the phone but it did it after that too.
Anyone else had this? It started to P me off last night. The phone nearly went out the window!
It's on T-Mobile (UK) and currently using their stock ROM.
Try a factory reset.
Factory Reset will be my last resort. I hate having phones/tablets set up how I like them only to have to do it all over again!
Anyway, since I rebooted it and charged it up, it's been fine. Will have to see how it goes.

[Q] Broke Wifi and fails to power off

Hi, I have a 2 week old handset which has now twice displayed a pretty strange/annoying bug.
I have been using no Stamina settings other than location based WiFi and queue background data for the most part to gauge battery life under my normal work schedule but I noticed last week that my saved WiFi at home wasn't on, so instinctively I tried to click the WiFi symbol but to no avail.
I then tried to restart the phone, but when pressing the power off option, it simply booted me back on to the screen I was on before hand. This continually happened until I got pee'd off and repaired it.
Again today I ran into the exact same problem. No WiFi and I could not power off. After several attempts at powering off I managed to get it to boot into safe mode where I started uninstalling apps to rule out any rogue apps. I still couldn't reboot forcing me to repair and wipe the phone.
I keep telling myself that this is merely a software bug and I can't seem to find other posts where people are suffering similar problems.
So I futilely ask, has anyone ever had anything similar happen to theirs?.
Yeah I think this is a software bug too, a similar thing has happened to me a couple of times with the wifi becoming "stuck" and rebooting the phone fixed it but if you're having trouble shutting down your phone, have you got quickboot enabled? Regardless of that though, you do have two options to force a restart, either hold volume up and power, this will force shutdown or press the small red button next to the sim card tray.

I am pretty sure it is the quick boot option now. Stupid bug.
Phew...don't have to return it now.
I think sony have disabled the quick boot functionality for some reason, I ticked it thinking it might be almost like a reboot instead of power off & then power on, later I noticed the power off menu wasn't doing anything when tapping it, was almost about to do a reset but then remembered I ticked the quick boot option.
Hope they enable it in future updates.

Screen randomly stays blank after hitting power button N900

I've got a strange problem with my Sprint Galaxy Note 3.
What's happening is that randomly when I hit the power to turn the screen back on, it will do nothing then the screen will stay blank. The phone clearly still works because if I'm on a call or listening to music it will still keep playing and the volume and other buttons continue to work.
When that happens I hold down the power to turn the phone off and then on and it boots up normally.
Rarely what will happen is the same behavior except the screen will go strangely green after I hit the power button, making the phone unusable until an off/on.
This happens sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes days without happening.
Phone is rooted, running OC5 on Android 5.0. Problem has been happening for months. Haven't made any system upgrades or installed any major apps so that isn't it. I'm thinking it is some kind of loose pin/wire but don't want to crack the phone open without a plan.
Any help appreciated!

I need help

Ok so to start off im gonna give you some information: my phone was rooted with magisk and it was running b360, it worked just fine until one day my wifi kept turning it's self off for no reason. That kept happening but not very often so i didn't mind it. Today my wifi wouldn't start at all(the switch thingy went blue then gray immediately) again and if i tried to turn it on again my phone would reboot.I then unrooted and went into safe mode to see if it would fix the issue but it was the same, so i tried recovering my data from twrp. That didn't fix anything once again, so i did a factory reset(that prolly screwed me over big time) after the factory reset i realized that my phone wouldn't finish the setup thing because it needs to connect to the internet to check for new updates. So my issues are that i can't seem to be able to access my phone through adb since when i use "adb devices" it doesn't show my device, and that my phone is basically unusable right now since it wont get past the "checking for updates" phase. So what should i do? Any help is appreciated!
*update*
I got past the "checking for updates" phase and i completed the setup by sheer luck(my wifi worked for a couple of seconds), but the problem still persists. My wifi can't be turned on, or when it turns on it stays like that only for a couple of seconds and then goes off again also my phone crashes from time to time aswell(usually when i mess with the wifi, but sometimes it just does it on it's own).
I know is abvious, but is WiFi+ turned on? That can turn off your WiFi for you if not near a saved hotspot. Could be a confusion between this and location services.

WiFi+ is turned off. From what I've observed so far after i restart the phone i can use the WiFi for about an hour or two, after that it stops turning on. But if i use it for about 20-30 mins, turn it off, and turn it on again after a while when i want to use it again, it works (obv if i use it for 1-2 hours the problem will occur again). So what I've been doing so far is just use it for about half an hour then turn it off until i need it, and repeat. I know that im probably not making much sense right now but i don't know what to do anymore.
