[Q] noob question ? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there anything different that u have to do if your flashing from 2.2 rom to 2.2.1 cause i went from bionix 1.3 to frost 2.2.1 and my phone was completely messed up. so any advice / suggestions or is it just the regular process?

Personally, I would Odin back to stock prior to flashing 2.2.1. Have you used Odin before?

ODIN is always a good way to go when in doubt. But you shouldn't have any problems going from Bionix to Frost i would think disable voodoo at the very worst.
What kinda issues are you running into? Is it just the other TitaniumBackup problem you posted in this thread?

A good idea is to back up your sd cards to your computer once in a while. Then do a nandroid back up. Just to be safe. Then you can do your Odin

Girlfriends Fascinate just decided to randomly stop doing anything except showing lights on soft keys after rooting and lag fix. Decided if I've got to restore should try this. First flash I got stuck at a similar issue after VZW logo. Wiped data and cache and was able to boot but entered in to FC hell. Working on flashing back to stock Odin posted in other thread as we speak.
Update: realized I had only wiped data and not cache as well. after doing that was able to flash back to stock, trying this once more.
Update 2: No go, still FCing like crazy. Flashing back to stock.

I had the same issue. Install stock and then Angels. Wipe cache only and it should work. If you cant activate Google do a reset in settings and all is fine.
I'm sorry, but that's exactly what I experienced rooting and running the lag fix on a Vibrant. There is something flawed with the lag fix. I don't know what it is, but this is the 4th experience I've read about that's the exact same as mine.
Could Samsung change the file system with an OTA update? Is that even possible?

All the lag fixes have some issues right now. The best lag fix will come once samsung releases the source code for our phones. See here: http://project-voodoo.org/

I had the same issue. If it happens again when there is no update. Delete the data in manage applications uninstall/re-install. Thats what I did and it got mine working again. For anyone else who may have this issue.

Bingo. You can't restore a 2.2.1 backup while on 2.3. You're gonna have to Odin then flash that rom as per first time Im afraid.

Whenever you leave cm7, you need to odin to jfd.

Not sure, But I guess not since you either odined to 2.2 or 2.1 while Heathen's rom is 2.2.1 so try flashing it again then restore if you've THAT much data you don't want to lose and haven't backed up in any other way.

[Q] From GB to Froyo and back for data from an app...

So... Here's my question. If I am running Gingeritis and I need to go back to my PerfectStorm nandroid to retrieve data for an app I forgot to refresh a back up for, can I just load my back up in recovery get what I need and load my Gingeritis back up through recovery without switching the radios or breaking something? Thanks in advance...
So... Noone had an answer to this? I just want to make sure I don't send it into a loop.

His will work just fine. No need to flashing radios if you don't need signal for thr time being. I'm not ssure why people say you have to flash the radio after the rom and before it boots. I've tried all varieties and it doesn't matter. Hope this helps. But yea just make a back and restore your Froyo then restore your ginger and you'll be good to go.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I had a pretty good feeling it would work, I just wanted to verify before doing it.
Yeah... That didn't work. Haha. Backed up my current, tried to restore my froyo and it said mismatch Md5. Rebooted and sent the phone into boot loop. Lol. Battery pull, hboot, restore most recent back up and now everything is good again. You learn something new every day. Haha.

If it said mismatch md5 then you had a bad backup. Has nothing to do with the radio.

I'm 99% positive anyways. Maybe someone else will jump in and say for sure but ive gone back and forth the ssame way you wanted to wih no issues at all.
Yeah... Who knows. Either way... It now seems I'm never going back to froyo. Oh well, I'm happy with GB and Gingeritis. Runs smooth and stable. Not sure how my backup would be bad. Never ran into that problem before. Some things just weren't meant to be I guess. Goodbye froyo, it was fun while it lasted. Haha.
I don't remember the issue exactly as I saw it described but the md5 mismatch seems to have something to do with renaming the backup.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
I had renamed the backup, but I've never had a problem renaming backups before... Don't know what's different now. Only difference is that this was the first time I tried to go from GB back to a froyo Rom.

[Q] (GSM) Whatever I do, I get a a reboot after a reboot. Call it Bootloop

Good evening XDA -people.
I do not really want to bother anyone, but I'm sure I do.
SO. I'm quite stressed about this as it happens all the time.
I got the PredatorUnity Rom (1.1 I guess, but it already happened before)
And if I try to do a nandroid backup it says it does work, sometimes it does NOT work though. so, I restart after that backup (or just a normal reboot, any kind of reboot causes this, even if I just go into recovery and don't change anything) the rom starts and boots alright for a few seconds and then does a hot restart.
So once this made me SO angry, I changed rom. then it actually went alright until I restored my apps via Titanium. then the same thing happened. Don't worry, I'm not that dumb anymore to backup my system apps. Anyway I located the apps that caused my bootloops. Chrome, Busybox etc. I THOUGHT SO. It looks like theres more.
The problem now is, everything worked well for a few days. EVEN 1 REBOOT WORKED! so now, I went into recovery to do a nand backup via rom manager and then just this..
so sorry. wi'll give thanks to any useful comment
oh yea. just for you to know if you need it;

It almost sounds like you've got a bad recovery. I would reflash it.
which recovery are you using? The latest 4ext seems to work best. Lots of roms here support it.
If you get everything working again, I would redo all your backups also.

Thanks man
I am using the latest 4ext touch.. and I flashed it only about a week ago! I've had these problems before- and after the recovery change. should I reflash it anyway?

It wouldn't hurt anything to reflash it but if you've had these problems before and after then its probably not your problem.
Have you tried other roms? And still get these problems?

Okay I won't take it as an option then. At least not for now..
I did, but as I said it broke after I restored my apps via titanium..
Yeah, I've seen that thread and I can be sure it isn't this as it doesn't reboot randomly. only afer a reboot. Like, you wanna break your phone? reboot it! haha
I really love Sense 4 and the predators' rom is really awesome, but I'd even try a AOSP rom. Onbly problem is, I don't think I could restore sms (I saved them via the stock sense sms)
Oh and if this could be a problem; today I downloaded BootManager lite and saved my boot.img? didn't do anything but might have been a problem for the backup?? Ah I dunno...

Guess I'm out of ideas also.
Wondering about Titanium backup pro though. It updated when I went on the market the other day. I bought the pro version awhile back. Now after the update when I go in and try to remove something from a rom, it tells me it can't.
I used to make user app and then delete or uninstall. Won't do it anymore with Titanium Backup. However, Rom Toolbox pro will.

aw man.. Thansk anyway
I don't know exactly what you mean, because all I ever did was backup and restore
I do have Pro, but just because of Lucky Patcher haha
So Rom Toolbox Pro is better? (got that too, not using it tho)
Alright. it seems like all I can do right now is; flash the latest radio, do a super wipe, (now comes the worst) restore an old nand. sense backup, restore my sms, download another sms backup program, use it, do a super wipe, etc etc etc. and install the aosp rom (sense 3.6 feels ugly after sense 4..) or whatever else I find and restore the sms that way and then live like never before.
OR I try to install the latest predator, which has a new base.
I'll do the last thing haha
Use twrp everyone says 4ext is great but get twrp
Hit the thanks button if i helped
