[Q] [Q/HELP] Samsung galaxy 551 (i5510L) remains BLOCKED after a call - Android

I'm having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy 551 (a.k.a. callisto i5510L). Sometimes when I RECEIVE (and so far only when receiving) a call, if the other person hungs up and the screen is still locked (from the proximity sensor since the phone is next to my head when I'm talking) it never ever unlocks again. In fact it doesn't even react to any button and I can't even turn off the phone. Only thing that works is removing and reinserting the battery and then turning on the phone again. It's a very tedious process and it happens pretty often, every couple of days or so. I took the phone to service and they replaced it with a new one but it does exactly the same so I figure is a general issue among this model.
I haven't been succesful in finding this issue on the internet so I'm assuming it has something to do with the operator's modifications of the system.
So the question is: Has anyone else had this problem? If so, has anyone found a workaround, a patch or received a proper answer from the service about how or when it wil be fixed?
Today I got from the service that it was a software problem to be corrected via update, but they didn't know what was exactly the problem or when the update will happen so I don't believe them much...
A little technical info about the phone:
As said it has stock ROM from the operator CLARO Argentina and the firmware versions, according to KIES are:
PDA:JK3 / PHONE:JK3 / CSC:JK2 (CTI)
And according to the phone about menu:
Model: GT-I5510L
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband: I5510LVCJK3
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Compilation: FROYO.VCJK3

Thanks for answering so soon and for the advice. I searched through their website but unfortunately they have only firmwares for the GT-I5510 and my device is GT-I5510L dunno, what's exactly the difference but even in samsung's open source website both devices have separate sections so I'm guessing there's a difference in hardware too.
I sent my phone for repair today, but perhaps I just have to wait for an official samsung update.
And I haven't found more people with this problem as often as it happens to me so perhaps I'm just really really REALLY unlucky and just got two faulty phones in a row. Maybe third time's the charm...

Now there is only 1 file diffrent, connected with the language.

hello,
Galaxy 551 is my wife's phone and she has the exact same problem.
After a call, screen turns off and the phone totally locks. Nothing can be done except taking out battery and turning the phone on again. I've noticed it happends on both outgoing and incoming calls.
Did you find other solution than flashing other rom? It's not my phone and don't want to mess with it.
Detailed phone info:
GT-I5510
Android 2.2
Radio: I5510XWKD1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 - perf
number of compilation: FROYO.XWKD4

No, sorry. The only solution I found was taking it to service several times until they agreed to change it for a different model. Because all GT-I5510 that they kept giving me had the same problem.

[Q] Unknown IMEI/Baseband version issue

Hello people, I have a rather peculiar issue with my SII
I have had this issue for some time now and really doesnt bother me that much, its just annoying. And its just now that I have bothered writing a post about it.
If Ive run out of battery, I plug my phone into the charger, turn it on while its charging, I get no service, not prompted to input PIN and get the Uknown IMEI\baseband version. But if I let it charge a couple of minutes, unplug the charger and turn it on, everything works fine. Whats going on here?
I think this problem occured after installing one of bmarko's MIUI roms. I have since full wiped and restored stock rom. Upgraded two new official samsung roms as they have been released, currently running XWKI8 unrooted completely stock and the issue still persist.
I have searched around and there are similar cases out there but not really any clear solutions. Theres even a post over at cyanogenmods forum site, but no replies.
As said earlier its not really a big issue for me, not expecting a immediate solution but I would really like to understand the problem if someone has the information since I dont have the technical competence to understand it myself. I obviously havent corrupted or lost anything in my efs folder since its working without the charger, or? Could there be remains of a bug from another rom still in the system causing this?
Any replies would be appreciated, thanks.
Same Problem
Hey FlipTrick,
I got exactly the same problem. Dont remember how it happened exactly, but do remember I didn't do anything exotic. Can't display my IMEI, unknown baseband version and no prompt for my PIN.
I Tried several things:
- Reflashed the advised codeworx kernel using odin.
- ReInstalled CM 7.1 and tried nightly version.
- Reflashed different RADIO ROMS from XDA (goo.gl/TjoaM)
Nothing worked. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Or know what I could try next?
Greetings,
Xianduras
I had this problem once when I used a jig to reset the flash counter. Given the modem (and the IMEI) wasn't showing up in the phone details, I reflashed the modem which fixed it.
Occasionally after a reboot my modem/IMEI details take around 20-30 seconds to appear, but they've never not turned up/left me without service apart from that one occasion.
problem gone?!
Problem seems to be gone, noticed it after flashing Hydrog3n rom. Cant say if thats the solution though, havent tested it for awhile and i've flashed alot of roms

[Q] Problems after kies ICS update from 2.3.5 H3G to 4.0.3 H3G

Hi everyone,
this is my first post, hoping to don't break some rule
sorry for may not so perfect english
I spent last two days searching info and threads in the forum but no luck.
I own two Galaxy S2, one is for research and modding ^_^ the other one is for stock use and work.
all of two were branded H3G Italy.
the one i use for testing is an MP1.300, actually it has the CBR AOSP ROM
and everyting go smooth apart from some little bug I'm notifying the author 89luca89.
In the past month i flashed various rom, official and modded, and all went like a charm.
Now the second phone: it was a stock 2.3.5 H3G branded phone, everything was ok (apart a problem i will explain later)
two days ago i updated the phone using kies and got the ICS 4.0.3 H3G, everything went well but after the restart the phone didn't recognize the sim, i tryied reflashing wiping rooting triple wiping unrooting etc and then i discovered two strange beaviors:
1) i was wrong, the sim GET RECOGNIZED from the phone but if there is the pin protection active the phone don't shows the unblocking request so no gsm network at all, if i remove the pin protection from the sim the phone works normally.
2) the power button now switch off the phone without show the power menu with the classic fly mode - data on/off reset shutdown etc.
To be shure it was a software problem and not an hardware one i flashed on this phone the CBR AOSP ROM and the phone worked normally with or without the pin, the power menu is ok and so on.
the strange thing is... the hardware model of the phone is MP 0.600 inspite of classic MP1.200 or 1.300.
now i'm asking you some tips... and i'm curious if someone can explain me that strange HW model (MP 0.600)
Now the aforementioned problem
this strange beavior already happened some months ago and after some days the phone didn't switch on at all so i send everything at service center and the phone returned me simply reflashed with 2.3.5 (the same rom it has when the problem appeared the first time.
Probably there is a strange behaviour with the hardware but i'm wondering why the AOSP rom work well..
I forgot to write that the IMEI is correct and that the sim works well in other phones and other sims show the same beaviour on the unlucky phone
all the roms ICS AOSP e AOKP works well, only official stock samsung ICS (H3G XEU XEN etc.) show the problem.
finally i flashed various modem but nothing changes.
sorry again for my bad english.

in another post someone asked me how i saw the hardware version of my phone...
following the procedure i used (simply used service code...)
from the dialer insert the code
*#*#197328640#*#
then press:
[2] version info
then
[1] SW VERSION -> [5] READ ALL SW VERSION
(i can't post external link so cut, modify and paste the link in you browser...)
i46 dot tinypic dot com/w2ocx1.png
or
[2] HW VERSION -> [1] READ HW VERSION
i46 dot tinypic dot com/oh8zkp.png
No Idea?
it's possible that no other people had such issue?
I remember some month ago someone writing about the problem of the power menu disappeared... but I'm not able to find that thread...
So no luck...

Search for /efs/imei/keystr file fix.
WOW
I replaced the file keystr and now the long press of the power botton
shows the standard menu and...
the phone is requesting to insert the pin at boot for the sim.
Now the strange thing is that this normally happen AFAIK when you flash
and reflash and do something wrong with firmwares and wipes...
the strange thing is that this phone was stock, not rooted...
(now i rooted the phone to restore the file and to try with other firmwares tnah original).
i noticed in the efs folder there are other missing files respect another phone
but I don't know if they are files created on the fly in special cases.
(I noticed the file mps_code.dat contains the product code and varying after a flash and one or two wipe)
There is some guide to learn the use of every single file in the efs folder?
and... why aosp roms function well even without that file in the efs folder?
I think it would be interesting try to discover whats is causing such behaviour.
so, thanks and.. set this thread as resolved

Trouble with my WiFi (possible MAC Address trouble)

Hi guys!
I came to you as my last option, I already checked in 2 other forums and you seem to be the one who knows best about this kind of issues.
I have a I9100 phone (with gingerbread 2.3.4 updated via Kies), it has like 6 months old or so, the thing is yesterday I was at my gf house and I tried to connect to her WiFi but it seems like the green button was kind of dark and it didn't connect at all, like it froze sometimes.
I used to reboot the phone and nothing seemed to work, so I forgot about it for like an hour and when I checked it, it was working with the WiFi with no problem, I thought this was just some minor issue, but later that day the problem became a mayor thing because I couldn't connect to the WiFi no matter what I did or how much I waited. I know my way around computers and I could identify that in the wireless option the Mac Address option said "UNAVAILABLE".
Looking in the forums they said this happened because of the kernel and it seemed to go away with just upgrading the stock, so I found a very good upgrade and I did it via Odin, so now I have ICS 4.0.3 with the following configuration:
BASEBAND VERSION: I9100XXLPX
KERNEL VERSION: 3.0.15
[email protected] #k3-25
BUILD NUMBER:
IML74K.XWLPG
Searching for this on the web I found something about the MAC ADDRESS in the nvram file, but when I checked that file, in the "macaddr" part it says a Mac Address that I think is the one that should be, so I'm a little but confused because the file says I have a MAC Address but the options on the phone doesn't (?)
I've tried the airplane mode, etc... I cannot assign an static IP because I cannot find any network!
Please guys, you are seriously my only hope!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

No one can answer this thread? Seriously? There has got to be a solution!
Hmmmm....Interesting.
So you can use the phone normally otherwise ? (data/calls work OK ?). Check your IMEI in settings/about phone/status. Does it begin with 0044 ? Do not post your actual IMEI here, a yes/no answer will do.
Also, I noticed you're running Speedmod with that LPG rom, I suspect the kernel is causing you problems given WiFi drivers are in the kernel. In the first instance, if I were in your situation, I'd flash that rom again & do a factory reset, and try WiFi with the stock kernel (look in the place/site/thread you got that stock rom from, you might be able to find just the kernel. If you can, just flash the kernel rather than flashing the whole rom).
If the problem is still happening with stock kernel, then we can troubleshoot further. If not, then it's clearly a problem with Speedmod; if that's the case you should perhaps ask for help in the Speedmod thread.
But reflash that rom & get the stock kernel back on & we'll take it from there.
I had EXACTLY the same issue
Solved it by changing my wifi router channel from Auto to 13. Problem solved. For me anyway

S2 Wifi gets connected really slowly on ICS 4.0.4

Hi XDA-developers,
It seems to be an old problem, but it's quite annoying... I was hoping that the new released ICS 4.0.4 could fix this bug, but unfortunately, no.
My phone:
Android 4.0.4
Baseband: I9100XXLQ5
Kernel: 3.0.15-i9100xxlq5-cl753921
Build number: IMM76.XXLQ5
I was using 4.0.3. When I wake up my phone from screen lock, and then immediately turn on wifi, networks can be found and shown, there is a sign with a grey "?" saying that wifi networks are available, but wifi will not be connected immediately. Instead, it will freeze for a little while. Then it will do auto-scanning the networks 1 ~ 2 times, and connect wifi ~30 seconds to 1 min after.
I have tried pretty much every method that has been recommended: Wifi Fixer, Wifix Manager, change to static IP, change frequency to 2.4Hz, etc. However, I have to say no method worked.. Then I tried to update it to 4.0.4, expecting that the new version has fixed this bug. UNFORTUNATELY, it is not solved. The only problem is that it takes about 1 minute to get connected.
There is an issue which discussed this problem (not exactly the same, but similar, they suffered from totally frozen and re-booting).
Issue 28036 Android
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? I'm not sure if it is samsung's problem, or the ICS ' s problem .. Why did they "ignore" us???

Hi, I am using ICS 4.0.3 with XXLPQ Kernel. I have faced some serious WIFI turning on Problems for about 2 months, not paying much attention, however I am now frustrated with this time waiting process and restarting my phone when it shows blank face to me.
I have gone through all the forums and said, 2.4ghz enabling, proc-ing the mem bytes size for memory increment and other said restart tools. I have now tried my very own method that blinked in my head, I thought just why not reflash with the same kernel from my Phone using CWM manager. Clockworkmod Manager and then targeted the same old Kernel File to flash my kernel. Now it's working fully functional.
So I recommend, Give it a try, reflashing your kernel with CWM from your phone. If more details are needed, please message me, I will post the needed steps to do so.
the kernel controls your wifi, so try another kernel like the guy above me said

SGS2 GT-I9100, ICS ROM problem

Dear All,
I live in China. I recently bought SGS2 GT-I9100. The shop keeper said it is Korean version. When I brought it home, there were a few problems with it.
1). When connected with Kies, a message is displayed that Firmware upgrade is not supported with this device or something like this.
2). When I upgraded the firmware to 4.0.4 using Odin, there was no lock screen and no shut down menu.
3). Also another problem is unwanted HW information on the home screens, menu screen everywhere. However, when I flashed 4.0.3 or Gingerbread, the unwanted HW information is gone but is always there with 4.0.4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876539
I was able to solve the no lock screen and no shut down menu by fixing the "/efs/imei/keystr". However, no information was found on the other issues. Can anyone help please. Thanks
