I have been jumping all around trying various ROMs. So far, I like VeganTab GB the best. However, there is 1 bug I cant seem to get past and it only affects me in VeganTab GB and CM7 which its based off of.
Playing back m4v files that I created in Handbrake, I get very laggy\Choppy playback. This doesn't happen in any of the other roms I have tried (VeganTab 5.1.1, TNT Lite 4.4.0).
I would post this in the VeganTab GB thread but I do not yet have enough posts to reply in that forum.
Any suggestions on anything I could try to fix this?
Thanks
What video player are you using? I was having similiar issues until I started using rockplayer and enabled hardware acceleration. My tab now plays everything I throw at it without issue.

Thanks. I checked it out and it does resolve my issue. Interestingly enough, if i use it in hardware accellerated mode, i get the ssme crappy performance.
Makes me wonder if i actually have a driver issue for the underlying issue.
Now if i could just get swype on here for easier 1 finger typing...
hardware acceleration is broken in Gingerbread
That explains that. Rockplayer is a fine workaround until its fixed. Now to hack swype onto this thing...

I have install the lastest version tonight and I loaded a few videos and none are playing anyone having this issue??? I tried the standard Videos Program and also doubletwist and mVideoplayer? Any suggestions???
All Gingerbread based ROMs are going to have some issues with video playback because there are no hardware drivers for the Tegra 2 chipset that the GTablet is based off (Harmony dev board).
So you will get software decoding only, hardware accelerations isn't going to be there.
All my videos work but when im in the web browser using flash 10.2 fixed it plays the video in slight fast forward no sound on hulu
If you haven't already done so you need to post your issue in the ROM's thread so GoJimi will be aware of the issue if he doesn't already know about it.

i would but i can't post in the developers section
Aside from the hardware acceleration issue, have you tried Rock Player, or Vplayer, I've had much success with those two.
I have actually had a random audio issue since day one so I'm RMA's mine and I flashed it back to stock now got super irritated last night with the Audio issue and then not being able to play any videos that were playing in Vegan 5.1.1! Wanted to love the tablet but I seem to be at my wits end with it! We'll see what happens!
The only videos I can get working are MP4 videos that were converterd for my Iphone.
I tried xvid, wmv, mkv, and avi. None of these will play on any of my video players(Act 1,mVideo,RockPlayer,VitalPlayer). This is the first android tablet I ever modded(VegAn-Ginger edition). Maybe I'm missing something.
Until full hardware acceleration exists, your best best is a Froyo mod like VEGAN-Tab or Brilliant Corners.
However, even those mods may disappoint you. Remember, it's not container support thats the problem (AVI / MKV / MP4 are containers), it's audio / video codec support. People confuse the two, but it's why some MKV's play and other don't, or why some have audio and some don't.
Honeycomb is even worse - my Xoom couldn't even play back WMV's that my GTAB could. But in Android's defense, it's not like the iPad is a heck of a lot better - it's OOTB support is pitiful. Granted, there are a lot of third party players, but some of them aren't free.
I currently have 'VEGAn-TAB ROM BETA 5.1 FINAL' installed as of yesterday and it's already crashed while I was watching a video. I know Gingerbread doesn't have video acceleration so I would like to avoid that if possible.
They're all pretty darn stable. And they're all listed at my site.

It may not be the rom that caused this...what video player was being used? what file format was the video in? when did you select if you were given the option of hard coding or soft coding? Where there are plethora of apps running in the background? What exactly was the "crash, forced reboot, lock up, video/audio distortion? Did the video file play properly on another device, ie your computer?
There are many players out there, some work well, some work kinda "eh." Some can't handle some video formats, some can play them, but not properly. Some vieo formats require decoding, hard or soft (I like hard when speaking of ice cream, but software decoding ususally works for my videos).
I'm using BC (the 1.2 version of VEGAn 5.1.1), and rockplayer to play video. I've been thinking of trying moboplayer, since it seems to have received rave reviews on this and other forums. I've been able to play .avi files with software decoding. MP4 files play fine, but the quality isn't as good..they're made for mobile devices with really tiny screens.
When I rip or download a movie, I almost ALWAYS make sure that it runs fine on my Acer netbook (same screen size) to get a general idea of what I can expect on the G-Tab.
in a nutshell, your issue may not be the rom at all...VEGAn 5.1.1 is probably one of, if not THEE most stable 1.1 based rom out there.

Thanks! I looked at the site.It is a darn good site.
Started having HD video problems with all miui based ROMS, Galnet, standard miui and wiui, videos either start playing and crash, dont play at all or just get a black screen. My recorded video from cam is also choppy. To check it wasnt my phone I loaded the latest chkrom, video played ok.
Want to stay with miui as anything I put on after miui just seems so clunky, anyone else finding this.
Mine does a similar thing although im not on a custom rom, ages ago my phone stopped playing .mkv's and now just recently it wont play certain .avi files or any .flac files at all however it still plays .mp4 fine
Im waiting for the proper ICS release to do a complete wipe and hope they work again.

you on stock rooted sammy rom then?
Ask on the Miui forums ?
Been using Galnet Miui for several months, have never had a problem playing videos of any format with either the native video player or MX. Same with test videos I've taken myself.

cant post on either forum, havent bothered to find out why to be honest as there isnt really much in there in the way of help like on there.
Can you tell me exactly what version you are on now, mine was ok on earlier versions. Everything played smoothly on stock video, mx player and dice, now nothing plays well and sometimes not at all.
Right now I'm using the newest MIUI weekly 2.2.17. The only player that seems to work with all kind of movie files is DicePlayer. All other are causing crashing and other strange issues (specially with HW mode). It should work ok for you as well tbh.
And you know this without even asking there ? Stunning piece of logic there champ
I've used 1.11.9, 2.11.26, 2.1.20 & 2.2.1 with different builds of Siyah and have never had a problem playing any video in any of the common formats on either MX or Galnet Video, nor have I had problems playing back test videos (short. I'm not about to make a 2 hr test video purely to see if it crashes a video player) I've recorded.

will give it a try, on a side note have you even been able to install the reboot options on a standard miui rom that you get with galnet?, tried a couple of times with no joy
i am using ndt miui, so far i didnt see any problem. maybe you can try to update the new one or another miui roms from others developer.
much better with DICE, mx still no longer works though and it was great before, smoother than DICE, not sure whats happend.
Hi All,
I've been trying to figure out how to get my CM7 NT to stream Netflix in the HD quality of the stock Nook ROM.
I've tried several edits to the build.prop (ro.product.____ and ro.build.___), to no avail.
Are there any specific lines in the current CM7 Internal build.prop that prevent Netflix from streaming in HD, like how the NT comes originally? Or is it some other issue with the CM7 build? Has anybody on CM7 gotten this to work?
Many thanks in advance.
Unless there's been a development I'm not aware of as of right now, you can't, it has to do with the fact that hardware acceleration isn't fully supported in non Stock ROMs. In addition the stock app is believed to be coded differently for the hardware.

I wish that part about the stock app was true, but the stock app works identically to the version that you get in the Google Play store. Reinstalling the stock version on CM7 via Titanium Backup gets you the same low-quality video and delayed audio that you'd get on the downloaded app.
But hardware acceleration will be here, it's just taking a little while. We're very fortunate to have Rebellos, a recognized XDA developer, joining the new-kernel project. He says he plans to start contributing to the project in about a week.

Ah, so it's a hardware acceleration issue then, rather than Netflix<-> build.prop device incompatibility? I thought that was done and fixed in the latest CM7 release?
Also stoked to have Rebellos on board.
i thought cm7 had full HW acceleration- and from using it vs using the rooted nook tablet it DOES play movies Better (i can play/stream a bluray.mp4 file on CM7 Fine, it stutters and hangs using the rooted nook(mx video player streaming over my wireless network for both examples) , it is CM9 that is having problem with the ducati timer conflict with backlight timer....the issue is the hd version of netflix if i remember correctly required the locked bootchain blah blah to get the hd version. not sure if that version will run on cm7 i just installed netflix from googlestore and use that.

If that were true, I think we'd already have hardware acceleration in CM9. After all, it would mean that source code for a hardware-accelerated graphics driver on the Nook Tablet was available. The whole reason Rebellos is joining the project is because we lack said source code.
Celtic did fix a video performance bug in CM7, but as far as I know it was mainly related to video playback and decoding, not graphics drivers. I might be wrong about that (I'm not a developer myself, I just follow it closely) but that's what the situation looks like right now.
Like I said, there's no difference between the Google Play downloadable Netflix app and the one that comes with your Nook Tablet. The key difference is the underlying firmware - stock, for some reason, gets HD-quality and synced up sound while CM7 gets low-quality and delayed sound. I've been following this one issue closely since it's my one pet peeve with the custom firmware we've got available. Hopefully, though, the devs will sort it out. They all seem like competent and talented folks.
the problem is 99.9% of the universe apparently for cm9(ICS) uses gptimer 11 for ducati...and the backlight some other timer
the nook tablet -currently- HAS to run the backlight on.....gptimer 11, the devs- i believe- have found a ducati on a different timer and they are working on adapting it to run on the nook tablet, once that is fixed- the cm9 devs will progress faster
I'll keep this simple, guys:
I was running Vegan-Gingerbread and everything just kind of worked. Unfortunately 720p video, even running overclocked, was just a stuttering mess.
Because it was all software decoding on Gingerbread...I think.
So I went through all the hoops and installed (finally, after bricking the thing a few times) BEASTCLEMSONFROYOWHATEVER super ultra overclocked speedy rom...Froyo based. Tried a few 720p files. One said HW DECODING...but produced no picture OR sound. Switching to software displayed choppy video and sound, unwatchable, of a 720p file.
I tried a few more video players. Some wont use hardware at all, so the results are awful. only that one app (Mplayer? Vitalpoalyer?) used HW but then it produced no results at all.
So here it is:
Is there any player that run on either Vegan Tab 5.1 beta (Froyo bl 1.1) or this Beast/Clemson rom I am on now (Froyo bl 1.2) that will use HW decoding of 720p and play at full speed?
If the answer is no I'll go back to Gingerbread and handbrake my files to 1024 x something...and see if the gtab can software-decode that. If not, then I'll drop down to DVD rez...720x480, which we all know the gtab can do.....
Thank you very much

I would say if you don't mind the non-functional camera and mic then I would take the leap to the ICS roms that are in the Dev. forum. Both have great HD playback and both have HW decoding because they share the same kernel made by the Team DRH. I am currently running the AOSP G-Harmony Rom without any issues. Just have to turn off GPS apon initial bootup so that the sound stays on .
Does ICS actually run anything on the GTAB?? EG: Netflix and Winamp/Pandora and such....? I thought it was just a barely-functional OS on GTAB......I must be out of the loop...
