VeganTab so far
I'm a wooter (but been around XDA for a while, through several rooted and romed winphones, a beater G1 and now a rooted Defy)
Got the GTab and updated it, it was VERY laggy and I didnt like the interface.
Rooted, Clockworked, titanium and nandroid bu, reformatted 2048/0, then tried TNTlite
It was WAY nicer than stock, much quicker. After a couple of days I decided to try Vegan, which I like a little better although I forget what was wrong with TNTlite (FCs maybe?)
Will stay here but watch this poll and try something else based on results.

Where is CM7 in this list?

Where is calkulin's rom?

+1 for Calkulin

After flashing and playing with several different ROMs, I'm back on stock.
The current stock ROM is stable. It's plenty quick for me (I find no speed differences in everyday use, although some do show up using test software). The setup is highly appropriate for a tablet. In particular, the launcher works far, far better for me than any replacement launcher I've tried - plenty of icons fit on the home screen and useless phone links and icons are not there. The Android Market and Gmail can be added easily.

Calkulin's by far!
Add another vote for Calkulin from me....
Caulkin's 1.1 Rom with Clemsyn's v9 kernel
Sweet, Stable and Fast!

Vegan-Tab for sure. It's fast, stable, and everything works.

Have you tried LauncherPro? Everything can be customized. Icons can be moved or added. You can even set how many rows of icons you want on a screen. Stock ROM was just garbage for me. Everything force closed no matter what fixes I tried. Finally just installed CWM and wiped the thing and put Vegan-tab on it.

My ROM of choice as well, along with pershoot's kernel (seems to fix the wifi sleep bug).

+1 for Vegan-Tab its given me the least issues out of everything i've tried so far.

Calkulins for me too

sorry i didn't see caulkins when i was making this
sorry guys i didn't see caulkins when i was making the poll and i don't know how to go back and change it. so i will add it on the first post.
i was also thinking to make this a way for first time users to select their roms based on the most popular ones.

VEGAn-Tab an obvious winner?
I'd be surprised if it wasn't - it's been around for awhile and seems to be a perennial favorite with the new Woot! users.
I always thought TNT Lite to be more of a "gateway mod", if that makes any sense. Close to stock and doesn't veer far into unknown territory (for the most part -- I have made exceptions a few times).
I think they're all great, tbh - GB, Caulkin's speed demon, VEGA-based VEGAn, they all have their pros to them!

As a Woot purchaser, I started with Vegan and then tried TNT Lite, and ended up preferring TNT Lite. It just seemed a bit faster and more responsive to me. With Launcher Pro, it's great.

TNTLite for me, plus Roebeet has been very helpful and patient answering my questions at the time of installing the ROM.
So Kudos to you Buddy

I enjoyed TnT Lite for a while, then tried Vegan-tab. That is a solid ROM where my only issues were with the market. However, I'm finding that the CM7 with honeycomb-like tweaks to be the best for how I use my tablet. I had to setup the SDCard stuff off the bat, and I can't use Reader any more as it scales poorly in all GB ROM's, but I found that Pulse is a nice reader in itself that effectively replaces Reader.

This is the version I finally stopped on. I've tried TnT stock/Lite, VEGAn 5.1 & GB, Caulkins, gAdam, pretty much all of them. My two favorites are TnT Lite, and CM7 with tablet tweaks. Except I have audio issues on many of the non-stock based roms (no audio or static), so I installed Clemsyn's v9 GB kernel. However that has USB mounting issues ATM. Not to mention the video stuttering issues in CM. I can never win.
I may stick with this version until HC is available, but we'll see.
EDIT: clemsyn's kernel didn't fix my audio issue after all.

Calkulin's + clemsyn. Recently discovered Calkulin's and impressed with the performance.

KaosFroyo v39 problems.

Were to start -_-
1. the power button doesnt lock my phone.
2. gps does not work, anything gps related fails (Gps status, Locations)
3. Camera does not work (vignette app does work)
4. video recorder does not work
5. 3d gallery is more a 1 fps slide show.
6. when in gallery and i switch the phone sideways, it shows 6 images of the gallery distorted (unusable)
I did a fresh rom install, and still these problems persist.
cleared cache and all.
common problems or is it just this phone....
I have all the same issues with the exception of not being able to lock it. Change the camera from autofocus to touch focus, and get rid of the 3d gallery, Eris cannot handle it sadly.

+1 xtrSENSE, IMHO you won't find a better 2.1 ROM, or if you want stock but without sense home itself, xtrROM. Both excellent.
xtrsense is really the smoothest Ive used too.
i wonder if kaosfroyo got its CM updated and what not if it would work better? I know its been on the back burner for some time.

I have issues with the browser closing after about 3 seconds after updating to Kaosfroyo v39. I noticed your update link to fix the GPS and browser, but that link is not working. Any other insight on fixing this? Many thanks! Carl
Hmm. I just clicked on the link and it downloaded the gps fix for me instantly, it won't actually open a page as its a direct download. Did you try accessing the link with your phone or comp? Try the phone, and while it may be a pain in the ass, use an alternate browser temporarily for the link such as Dolphin Mini.
PM me if you are still having problems and I will do my best to help.

It's pretty simple and essentially the same process that you used to install KF. You are already rooted, so you now need to download the xtrSENSE5.0.1.zip file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726467
Copy that zip file to your SD card and then use the following procedure:
- shut down the phone
- restart in recovery by holding down VolUp while you start the phone until you see the Amon_RA recovery screen
- go to the Backup/Restore menu
- Choose Nandroid backup
- When that is done, press VolDn to return to the main menu
- Go to the Wipe menu
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe Dalvik cache
- Press VolDn to go back to the main menu
- Choose Flash a zip from SD card
- Choose the xtrSENSE5.0.1.zip file
- restart the phone
I had kaosfroyo v39 for only a few minutes before i flashed a cyanogenmod7 gingerbread rom which made me much happier
how long have u had the gingerbread rom for? what are some of the features it has compared to the xtrsense rom or any xtr rom. i read the xtr rom's are super speedy i can't stand the froyo 39 definately slowing down lately
well im gonna try the xtr sense rom i've really wanted the sense capability back so i hope this goes good

I flip back and forth between xtrSENSE and one or two of the GB ROMs weekly; I, like many others, have been running the GB ROMs for many months now. They are very stable and much, much better than KF at this point.
I find it hard to find speed differences between ROMs after things have been running for a while. About the only difference I see is battery life - the GB ROMs are more efficient than xtrROM and xtrSENSE, all things being equal, on my phone. xtrSENSE is excellent, all of the GB ROMs are great and well-supported at this time. Sometimes there are updates to the GB ROMs that may break some functionality but they are always fixed by the next update - just read the comments in those threads to see and you can always download and flash an older version if you need something to work. You cannot go wrong with either choice.
well so far nearly 24hrs with the xtrsense rom and loving the speed and smoothness so far. there are a few things i liked to have kept from the froyo rom to this one but i'd rather have the smoothness and quickness than the few things i liked more from the froyo rom. still re-learning everything tho

Why doesn't anyone use CM7 for G-Tab?

Are the mods of CM7 preferred over straight CM7? Also, just to get HW accel, should one stick with Vegan 5.1?
Just ordered my G Tab from Amazon and wondering what ROM I should jump to.
Thanks for your time.
Each ROM has it's fans but I've been running VEGAn 5.1.1 since it was posted and for me and my needs from a tablet it's rock solid without a bunch of force closes or other issues like I've read other people report about other roms or tweaks (like using different kernels) they've made to them after they've flashed a flavor of rom.
I use my gTAB for games, reading books/magazines/comics, accessing my work computers, watching ripped videos, watching flash videos on sites like HULU (needs hacked Flash) or Fox Television (doesn't need hacked Flash). And I've had access to the Market with almost every app I've needed or wanted show up without any tweaks.
In the end it's really up to the user and what the user wants out of their tablet.
I moved to the Vegan GB ROM mainly because, for some reason, Flash kept malfunctioning on any of the 2.2 ROMs I used. I miss watching videos, but hopefully a GB driver is forthcoming.
On the 2.2 side, I preferred Calkulin's ROM (with pershoot's Froyo kernel) because it was fast, and I also thought it was more tablet-oriented.
My advice is, while your tab is still new and you don't have it as customized as you will in the future, flash every ROM available and take them for a test spin. I'd run Calkulin's Format All zip before every ROM install just to be safe.

Considering how easy it is to do, I second this. It's pretty much what I did before settling on VEGAn 5.11, although I think I may try VEGAn Ginger again.
I am running CM7 on the Gtab without any issues. I chose CM7 rom since I am familiar with it because I am using that on my DInc.
Yeah I was considering VEGAn Ginger too. Let's see how much free time I have this weekend.
I am running cm7 on mine....since all the other versions are based off cm7 anyway. Cyanogenmod does an update and pushes it out...I don't have to wait for the others to update their source base from cm and merge in their rom edits.

where can i get the hacked flash? i downloaded a 10.1 hacked from a link, but then hulu said i needed a newer flash,
I use CM7 with Pershoot's kernel and VTL Launcher. I've found it quite nice since they integrated in the tablet tweaks. I don't watch videos on it, though, so I haven't had to worry about hardware acceleration. Though, apparently, the last stable release and nightly gives some NVidia tuning, though not full hardware acceleration like Froyo, from what I gather.

You can get the hacked libflashplayer.so file for flash 10.2 here. You need to install the standard flash 10.2 first, though. It's available on the market, but you can also get it here if it doesn't show up in the market for you. I've been running it on CM 7.0.2 and it works great; just make sure to set your browser to desktop (in stock browser, Menu>Settings>Select User Agent; I set mine to linux desktop) and configure the run at boot file transfer script (instructions are in the post).

Download the attached zip to mount the internal SD card as /sdcard instead of /emmc if you wish.

[Q] Which custom ROM is the best?

Hi everyone,
I must point out that I am pretty new to the whole custom ROM thing, I still have the stock ROM and everything on my xperia x10,
so my question is which ROM gives the best performance (ie less lag, good battery life, not many bugs, etc)? and can you give me simple instructions on how to install it because I don't want to screw something up and brick my phone, please?
Also when having a custom ROM installed, are you able to implement (install) patches given out by sony ericsson or you just follow the forum and wait for the developer of the ROM to make a patch, and if there's a patch from the developer how do you install it? (I presume you can't install the patches from sony ericsson, I'm just asking). And how often does the developer release the patches?
And do I have to delete everything with a factory reset from my phone before I do ANYTHING? at which step should it be done? can I backup everything using backup and restore program that's already aboard the x10 and restore it later, or the program will disappear when I install a custom ROM? if it wont, will it bring back my sms and mms effectively, and applications too?

+1 for wolfbreak's
Hi there, as you can see from my post count, I'm pretty new to this as well. I've only tried wolfbreak so far but am amazed at it's stability. As far as I've seen you will lose SMS etc however lots of things can be saved to the cloud, so first thing I'd do is make sure all contacts are marked as Google sync
I initially found the flashing to be problematic, but that was mostly because I was an idiot and failed to notice that the flashing software also adds functions such root access and xrecovery when the phone is NOT in flash mode. Since. Then I've been able to upgrade to the latest version (06) without even using a computer. Simply downloading the file onto my phone, moving it with the included file manager and rebooting to the recovery menu
I know have a faster more responsive phone with lots of added features such as Flash, Voice Search and loads more customization options. IMHO well worth the twenty minutes or so it will initially take
Make a note of your favourite apps as well, as the market only remembers paid for apps not your free ones, but for me the change over was pretty seamless and after only a day and a half with it am more than happy. So much stuff is held within the cloud that setting back up isn't the mega ballache it seems before doing it
Wolfbreak's ROM is the most 'fun' to use, the most tweaks avaliable
TripnMIUI's ROM is one you need if you just want your phone to work. Also, it has an iphone-like look (IMO I hate it, but some people like it)
Jereplea's Gingerbread mod is for those who want to be active in making the ROM better and test Gingerbread and custom kernels. It's not really that stable, but it's getting better by the day and it's the most updated ROM.
IMO those are the 3 big ROMS, there are smaller ones and you're free to check them out, they're pretty good too, but those are just my opinions on the top 3 ROMS.

another +1 for tripnmiui's rom, pretty well featured
for me TripNMiui is always the best
TripNMiui with custum kernel
I'd say Wolfbreak's so far...
It runs flawlessly...
I've been testing many custom ROMs for a while, and up to now, the ones I liked the most are TripNMiUI's and Wolfbreak's ones. It's hard even to pick up one of them... TripNMiUI's has a great visual and is very clean. Wolfbreak's, in the other hand, works flawlessly and very stable, and I love that ARC's style.
Actually, I'm using Wolfbreak's now.

[Q] Pro and Cons of CM7 dual boot

I have been thinking about adding CM7 to my TP. I just had a few question.
If I add CM7 will I lose anything on WebOS?
If I have a problem with CM7 can it permently effect my TP? (brick or get stuck some how in CM and not be able to go back to just WebOS)
Is the TP faster on CM7 or WebOS how is the battery life?
I use my TP for mostly web surfing and email. I would like to have more choices in browsers and be able to use Netflix, Hulu, etc...
I have everything I need to install it on my PC I just wanted to have a few questions answer before I started. Thanks for any help.

You can use the ACME Uninstaller to go back to just webOS.

I feel it is faster, but it was never slow on webOS. Battery life is less than webOS.

Web os is slow on certain aspects like screen responsiveness and typing in web browser where android side does not have these issues
I figured out the email thing. This is from my cm7 enhanced TP.
I have a 32gb TP, running 3.0.4 (updated OTA), Uberkernel @ 1.5, many patches from preware plus performance tweaks (logging, etc.).
I've been an Android user for years, but I liked webOS so much that I considered not installing CM7. I installed Alpha 2.1, then updated to 3.0, and am now running xron 3.3.2, a tweaked CM7 Rom.
I don't find webOS laggy at all. I think it performs as fast, if not faster than Android. For me, the battery life is better on webOS.
It's a pleasure being able to boot into either os at will.
Like a previous poster noted, you can get back to just webOS by using 'uninstaller'.
I strongly reccomend installing Android and the multi-boot capability of Moboot. It's like having 2 tablets.
Now it went from bad to worst. It was ok for the first few days then it stopped connecting to the android and amazon market. Tonight the touch screen stopped working. I tried to restart it and now the screen is black but you can see the backlight on. So, what do I do now?
update: I held the power and home button for awhile and now it's working.

VeganTab 5 crashed - Time to upgrade?

Hello - I've been using Vegan Tab 5 since I got my gtablet last Christmas. It has been pretty nice except that the power/screen button always glitches, and every so often corrupts the profile and I have to wipe all my user data and start fresh.
I have the market, flash/hulu, and the camera working. So my question is, since I just had to wipe it again and start over, what is/is there a current, most stable installation I can use that will have the same features - market, wifi, flash/hulu, camera, and does not crash and force a wipe from the damn power button?
Gingerbread? Honeycomb? Flashback? Beasty/Clemsyn Ultimate Froyo?
If there are awesome new features in newer ROMs that don't have a working camera (I think I read something about that in Honeycomb) let me know. My daughter will be disappointed but thats ok
Thanks

You might consider moving to a 1.2Bootloader.

Try a HC based ROM FB 10.3. It's pretty slick.
If you prefer a FROYO base, Beasty/clem Ultimate is stable also..ans very fast
to make your current problem go away, you need to back up your apps/tab and NVflash and reinstall your current ROM

While I do agree Flashback ROM is very pretty, I've had zero luck with Flashback ROM concerning a fully working and stable Flash Player. I watch a lot of streaming videos on my gTab on Hulu, CBS, FOX, Amazon Prime, etc... and I've tried with Flashback 10.1 and 10.3 and neither of them would let me watch videos via Flash Player.
So, after trying VEGAn 5.1.1, CyanogenMod 7.0.1, VEGAn Ginger, Mountain Laurel 3.1.0, and Flashback 10.1/10.3 I've come back to VEGAn 5.1.1 because it's the most stable and fastest for me (with pershoot's latest FroYo kernel).
I've also used VEGAn 5.1.1 off and on for the better part of a year but haven't had the issues the OP is reporting where my profile gets corrupt forcing a wipe/restore. I guess I've been lucky.

From my experience, funny things happening is usually due to corruption data.
NVflash/wipe usually restore most functions.
I don't use flash much, so I didn't care much about streaming.
I'd just tried out Beasty/Clem Ultimate...It is very fast and stable as well...
Thanks for the advice. Flash is pretty important for me, so it sounds like I'm using the right build for my needs.
I wish i didn't have issues with the power button, but wiping/flashing isn't the end of the world. It doesn't happen very often, but occasionally when the screen sleeps, the button won't bring it back up. After few tries the tab reboots and then sometimes i end up with a corrupt profile and it wont startup.
I'll learn to live with it.
Thanks again

I had this problem as well. I read a post on this site to use a program on the Market Place called Wifi lock or Wifi keep alive, seems to work for me. The problem is when the Wifi goes to sleep.
As for the new ROM I have just upgraded to Vegan Tab 7.1 files can be found here
http://vegantab.gojimi.com/2011/08/26/vegan-tab-gingeredition-7-1-0-for-bootloaders-1-1-and-1-2/
Do not upgrade Google Maps this will cause force close for maps you need to stay on an older version I’m using 5.5.0.
