I am running Vegan 5.1.1, Clemsyn's Kernel v9
My quadrant scores seem low..my first run was a 1948, since then I have not achieved anything close to that (1600s), and definitely have not reached the 2400s that most with Vegan report.
I mean, I am not noticing any issues with my tablet's functionality, but I do not want it to be slower than it should be.
Any thoughts on why I am experiencing these low numbers?

I have run quadrant a number of times since, and I am definitely hovering in the mid 1600s
I'm getting around 1900 on mine, and I'm running 2.3.3 one with Honeycomb elements. I haven't messed with the jit settings (that can help a lot). I'm also running ADWLauncher... since thats always running, that could be some of it. I'm not sure if mine is normal for the rom though.
If you aren't noticing anything negative from a low score, I wouldn't worry about it.

That is true, everything I've read indicates that Quadrant scores in not necessarily an indicator of overall performance. That being said, my first scores were in the 2000+ range. I've heard that switching to ext4 would boost that even more.

I do notice this as well, running TNTlite 4.4.0, and I do get higher quadrant scoress, 2200+. I'm new to android, but I suspect that this is just how it is. (Like when Windows gets bogged down loading programs is a little slower)
The lag I experience isn't anything terrible, but it is there forsure, especially when the tab has just came out of sleep. Doesn't really bug me unless I am in a rush to finish that angry birds level before I get back to work.
Hm...so I guess I just won't worry about it too much. There has to be some reason though that my are 500-700 less than yours though. I just worry that there is a hardware issue with my tab, or some software leeching processing power

Are you making sure to exit those games, (hitting the back button till you get an exit dialog) or are you just switching to home? It may be that those games are still running in the background. Search for an appkiller in the market and that'll also help you turn off other unwanted services running in the background
I've run quadrant before and after exiting everything, no change. Averaging 1660.
edit: And yeah, when switching from one game to another (or anything memory intensive), I make sure to fully close the initial app
I just upgraded to 4.4.0 from 4.3.0.
I saw score of 2400 drop to 1600 also.
System works great.

Go into settings... apps... clear data for quadrant and rerun... I get 1600s sometimes but after I clear data I get 2300s. 2500s on Calkulins ROM.
Also vegan 5.1.1 with clemson v7 & I'm averaging 2300 or so. I installed the 3588 nvidia drivers update I found in the forum somewhere and it boosted my score. Then again they might be already included in rom or kernel and its a fluke my score went up.
I'm also running vegan 5.11 and im scoring 1900 - 2000 except i am noticing functionality problems. I'm using vtl lancher and when i go into the app drawer and swipe to the next page, it lags and ends up dragging an app icon to the home screen.

MFLOPS mean jack when there is little way to observe the difference.

Linpack MFLOPS - measures the floating point performance of your phone.
710...768...806 - refers to CPU frequencies
increasing the CPU frequency should equate to better general-case performance, including things opening quicker as you mention, but also other types of general snappiness like moving between screens and so forth.

Emulation is a surprisingly CPU intensive operation, especially if the emulater isn't well written. Rather than looking a ton into overclocking and JIT, etc, maybe you ought to look for a better piece of software.

I have run roms with 5.1 MFLOPS and now am running a rom that gets 3. I can honestly say I see no difference.

it looks like to me that everyone is look at the wrong things.
for example:
I am running a Tom that is getting on a average of 4.9 mflops.
I get smoother screen changes....
streaming videos online is so much faster compared to a 3.0 mflop rom. ...
tubetube and other....... websites.
to me everything I do is faster...
I.don't play game on my phone so I don't know how that is.... but everythng else I do is very much faster.

Isn't it true that the MSM7201 in our phones is already overclocked to get to 528mhz as it is? I see a lot of different places saying Qualcomm chips in general are just not worth overclocking... and since our chip is factory overclocked to begin with... just seems like we're pushing the already-pushed here. But the way this board goes crazy for overclocking... it's contradictory. I don't know what to think, cause I've run Linpack myself and gotten ~4.9 with JIT + OC versus ~2.5 without... but I'm with the OP on this one... only difference I'm seeing is my battery draining faster and my phone getting physically hotter.

I have OC and JIT and getting about 5.1 mflops and haven't had worse battery life or a hotter phone. It could be the battery I'm using but meh (got a replacement one that's 2000 mAh) but I got worse battery life on leak 2.1 than with the rom I'm using now that has OC, JIT, LWP, etc. I can go about 8 hours with heavy texting, moderate internet usage and my lwp's running and it only goes to about 65%
so OC and Jit don't make that big of a difference in gameplay?

What the OP and all the respondents are noting is frankly quite typical of what happens when performance tuning focuses on a single benchmark: the results obtained are essentially meaningless for different kinds of activities on the same device.
That's because there's a whole chain of dependencies that are specific to a given task, any number of which could become the rate-limiting factor; and a different task on the device will have a different set of dependencies and therefore different rate-limiting behaviors.
For instance, let's take writing to an SD card as an example: there's really no way that OC'ing will speed that up in a measurable way - because the CPU isn't the rate limiting factor.
That Linpack benchmark measures floating-point performance using a software library (as the Eris has no hardware FP capability). Most of the apps on the phone do very little FP work at all. But, it's not a bad test of CPU speed, because it performs no I/O. It also may not be very memory bandwidth intensive, either (if the problems it works on stays in the uP cache and there are few page faults).
OTOH, a game emulator needs to write to the graphics display (at a minimum) and possibly also do read I/O from flash.
Different task, different results. Sometimes things can be improved by hardware or firmware; sometimes the software itself needs to be improved.

What I'm trying to get at is -
I should be able to play, at the basic level, Sonic or Mario - Without issues.
At the very least
I prefer roms over market games any day (Sonic, Mario, Zelda, DK-Country) and it cripples the phone, at least in my view, that I cannot enjoy the fruits of old games.
Although, I was able to find some old Atari games - which, thankfully, work without stuttering.
When I first got my GT, I immediately installed Culkulin. He's a rock star, and I new it would be good. Quadrant scores over 2600. I was impressed. But...it's froyo. I've used Honeycomb on my NookColor and really like having the full time menu bar on the bottom. Culkulin doesn't have it.
Well I tried Corwin's latest C7...and it's really nice. market fixed and I can see everything. The fulltime bottom menu bar is nice....just like Honeycomb. But the quadrant scores are around 1800...

Sort of...not really...I'm actually thinking the speed of having onscreen access to the menu and back button all the time is the biggest time saver.
Functionality trumps speed
IMHO, most gain in speed is offset by loss in functionality. You may be able to launch faster or scroll more smoothly, but if you can't actually do what you want to do, then what's the point?
This is amplified more if the increased speed only really shows in Quadrant scores as opposed to what you can actually feel and discern. There are, in fact, real differences between, say, an Archos 101 with a score of 900 and a customized GTab with a score of 2200, or between stock GTab and customized GTab. But when you get down to Quadrant scores of, say, 2000 vs. 2500, it's almost certainly negligible, and more of a placebo effect.
I'm sure there's a minimum perceived improvement score at which you actually feel the gains. Other than that, scores are just that: numbers. And although it can be fun to tinker and push our gadgets to their extremes, at some point it becomes nothing more than a fun challenge with somewhat diminishing returns.
I'm reminded of a comment on Slashdot about benchmarks for the iPad2 and the Xoom. I wish I could find it because my paraphrasing won't do it justice, but the essence of it was that the reason the iPad is beating Android so much is that the focus is on usability and experience not benchmarks. People often get hung up on benchmarks when, in many circumstances, they are practically meaningless.
Executive summary: unless there are large, meaningful speed improvements, functionality, wins, hands down.

I'm running Calkulin's 1.1 rom and Clemsyon's v9 kernel. When quadrant decides to work (which is rare) I get around 2300. Normally it force closes on me, and when it does work it doesn't seem to do any of the CPU tests (0/12).
That being said, it's my favorite combination to date. I recommend sticking Gojimi's VTL launcher on it and you're good to go. It's ADW launcher modified for tablets, and allows you to have a dock at the bottom of the screen, as well as the left and right.

I also keep the stock TNT status bar that comes with Calkulin's rom, which has the normal Home, Back, etc buttons.

Make sure you hold the tablet in portrait when pressing run full benchmark, it won't run the cpu tests if you hold it in landscape.....at least that's how it is for me.

As by the title, I get a low score on CleanROM 3.7 based on ICS 4.0.3. My result is just 1700. I haven't found any benchmark result based on this rom but I know that stock should get at least 2400-2600.
Has anybody benchmarked on CleanROM?
Why does it matter? Bragging rights, or pissing contest?
Actually the score doesn't really matter but I've noticed a slowdown after flashing CleanROM.
Haven't noticed any lag at all.
Have you benchmarked quadrant? Also, the slowdown is more noticeable when scrolling menus and some heavy designed websites.
I don't know why people bother with Quadrant, it doesn't work correctly on dual-core phones anyway.
Actually don't really bother on it. But, as I said started to be doubtful of some lags compared to the stock rom and I used quadrant just to create an idea if this was really the case.
By the way. Ver 2.0 is optimized for multicore phones.
Quadrant is a terrible benchmark.
Use Antutu.
Tryied Antutu and got 3387. Checked a bit around and found that a score of 5000-6000 should be normal.
Ok, rerun antutu after restarting the phone and got around 6200. What really bothers me is that even after killing all task and running any benchmark, I notice that scores are usually noticeable lower than on a first run after restarting. And more important, the phone is slower. Seems like services are still running and using available resources.
I use Advanced Task Killer by the way.

Don't ever, ever, ever use task killers on anything past Froyo.
They harm the phone and do not do anything, it's all placebo that it does.
There's countless threads about it.

Imo the only benches I care about are GPU benches. Quadrant is utter garbage, remove it and do yourself a favor. Nenamark 1 / Nenamark 2 for GPU benching is nice.
well, scrosler puts fastboot in his rom, which kills all running tasks that are not core.
Myself, I'll occasional open System panel app if the phone is acting up. Very occasionally.
On cleanrom I haven't noticed any slowdows.
Hey guys I just got NFS: Most Wanted on the ATT Note. The gameplay and the controls are great but the game sort runs in slowmo. Anybody else getting different performance in other ROMS?
I'm running flapjaxx's AOSP ICS rom W/ GPU OC and CPU OC. I assume the slowness is due to the Note's large resolution and it's not quite as optimized as it could be for our phones. It is smooth but just terribly slow.

OOOOKAY guys I am back with some interesting results!
I continued to try more roms and see the performance with Need for Speed Most Wanted. I first tried Flapjaxx's stock ICS rom with touchwiz with an overclock kernel and gpu OC. That ran better than any of the AOSP but still had some slowness to it.
Seeing as the stock roms tended to give more performance, I tried another stock rom. This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766933. No OC kernel, everything stock pretty much. Here is what happened:
1. I restored NFS from titanium
2. NFS says this android is not compatible
3. I uninstall NFS and install it from the Playstore and redownload the SD data
4. Ran the game and observed that there was little to no lag! Well I'm sure it could be a bit better, the frame rate was totally playable and it actually felt speedy!
Now i'm not sure what is happening here. Either 1. the game downloaded a new SD data with lower graphics requirements, 2. the game recognized the device as a different device and choose the graphics setting accordingly, OR 3. the device just performs better @ mostly stock. Now can anybody inform me on how the SD Data actually works that would be great so I can pinpoint what it is.
My next test will be using the above rom that yielded good performance with flapjaxx's OC/GPU kernel to see if it speeds up the frames anymore.
UPDATE 2
After a bit more testing I see that without the OC kernel and using the kernel from 'better stock' ROM above, the road actually is missing some water and effects which is probably leading to the smoother gameplay! If anybody else is testing this let me know what your results are!

Trying out flappjaxx's Jelly Bean rom with his GPUOC and CPUOC. No surprise there, graphics got bumped up.
What I did notice is that there is almost NO DIFFERENCE in frames (from what I could see) from Stock rom + AOSP/JB roms with OC kernel in BUMPER CAMERA MODE despite the higher graphics. To be clear, those of you on AOSP that are already using bumper mode will not get higher frames in bumper mode on something like a stock rom. There is little to no difference in bumper modes. Should be all that I can test now. I will be sticking with this Jellybeanie and playing NFS in bumper camera mode myself (in car view).
EA, give us graphic options. That is all.

In conclusion:
Game is somehow determining the graphics through the kernel
SD Data downloaded is the same on every rom, don't have to download new SD Data.
Some roms perform better than others. I had a lot of luck with Jelly Bean roms on stock kernel, no need to overclock.
Figured I'd give you guys a ranking list from roms. Going from best to worst
1. Latest Jelly Bean Nightly 11/21 Stock Kernel - Great out of car and even faster in car - graphics medium
2. Flapjaxx's FJ Stock Rom Mod - OCGPU/CPU best performance (in car view only) - graphics high
3. Electro's Stock Rom - Stock Kernel with no OC Okay performance in both out of car view and in car view - graphics medium
im running AOPK milestone 1, You can kinda play the game....but all the cars are black the buildings are black and the road is black....Not really sure what is going on! but I do get the slowmo at first but after I go to the menu and go back to playing the game it starts to run smoothly....in black that is!
I noticed the slowness as well, I switched to the in car view and it runs much better. Give that a try...

That's jelly bean right? I had some problems running games and with graphical glitches in jelly bean until I turned off HW overlay and that stopped my problems.

Ditto, switching to in-car view is definitely a lot smoother, has decent graphics but looks like the limit of S3 Adreno 225 chip has been reached, this (and other games of similar graphic quality) may be enough reason for me to upgrade to note 2 later. I also have slow down problem with NBA 2K13.
No real graphic glitch however, if you see missing textures it has to be wrong sd data, remember we are Snapdragon NOT Mali.
Im on liquid RC7 with KK.12 kernel no overclocking and the game seems to run fine for me with no lags..however Tomdg07 is right its a battery hog which quite frankly isnt a surprise. I just got off a 30 minute subway ride and I was playing it the entire time..used up exactly 20% of the battery.

Really? No lag? Hmm, what's that ROM? Is it one of the Jellybeanies? Have you tried in car view to see if it is even faster than out car?

Yes indeed no lag at all - Liquid is a jellybeanie you can find it in the original development thread. To be honest I havent had the need to try in car view because the out car view has been working fine.
I should mention though that whilst I have not over clocked I am using several build prop tweaks some of which Im sure optimize graphics and what not.

Just tried NFS Most Wanted on Liquid with KK Kernel and no luck. I even tried some build prop tweaks. It just feels too slow. Weird.
Going to try deleting it and redownloading the SD Data instead of restoring it from Titanium. Will report back with results.
EDIT: No go either. Still low frame rates. On a good note however, Liquid Jellybean Rom is probably the most stable of the Jellybeanies.

Agreed. Right now there is no way to change graphics quality. Certainly would save me trouble. What I think is happening is that with some Roms and Kernels the game thinks we have higher hardware and cranks up the graphic quality thus slowing down the performance of the game.
What I found is every time I used an OC kernel of some type, the game slows. So it might be a kernel issue.
I just cant comprehend why despite having the same phone and same setup (i.e. rom, kernel etc) we get totally different results.

I was testing some more Roms yesterday including Black IV and Electro's stock debloated Rom. Black IV had flapjaxx's kernel with the ability to OC and on the Electro was not OCable.
My results were the same. Something about flapjaxx's kernel or kernels with the ability to OC makes the game bump up in graphics thus making it slower. The game must be scanning the clockspeed or something or maybe it's something deeper than that. If I can I want to test out AOSP roms again to see if its the kernel or both the kernel + the rom.

What I did notice is that there is almost NO DIFFERENCE in frames (from what I could see) from Stock rom + AOSP/JB roms with OC kernel in BUMPER CAMERA MODE despite the higher graphics. To be clear, those of you on AOSP that are already using bumper mode will not get higher frames in bumper mode on something like a stock rom. There is little to no difference in bumper modes. Should be all that I can test now. I will be sticking with this Jellybeanie and playing NFS in bumper camera mode myself (in car view).
EA, give us graphic options. That is all.
UPDATE: Those of you that are finding this page and reading this post. Look on the front page for what roms are the best for this game.

Same issue. Luckily I had a backup of the SD data on my hard drive so I can revert back. But yeah something messed up in that download messed up the game for us.

Only form of a backup I have is in the nandroid backup I did before flashing cm10, I suppose I could dig it out of there somehow, but I'll give them a day or two to fix it first

Installed on my Stock but rooted prime now. Appears to eliminate all the stock browser lag I used to have. It's now blazing fast, and I can scroll while its still loading stuff which I was never able to do before. Holy mother of all fixes it seems like:good:
I installed it last night on my prime. It does lot for my prime. I also did some of the early investigation to what was really being fixed by this hack. I am glad Cyanogen has confirmed some of my theories. If you are rooted I would highly recommend installing it.

Tried this and also read up a bit on what it does. Unfortunately I don't think what this tries to do is an issue on the Prime. This basically makes sure there is always random data available for apps from a location that will block if there's none available. However, when I ran a command that was constantly consuming all the random data (cat /dev/random > /dev null), I could see that the random data was getting consumed but it wasn't causing a perceptibly adverse effect on anything else.
I also just ran the app for a while, and I didn't notice anything being more responsive. It will consume extra battery though.
Take look at my write up on the Google bug. That is what the author originally thought the problem was. What is probably going on is kernel lock contention due to the code that generates entropy when the pool is depleted.
Installed it just now, no discernible effect. Quick reboot... Chameleon launcher, app switching, Chrome, all smooth as butter. I am gobsmacked! I think have a feeling this works well for me because of the number of connections made by Chameleon, logged in accounts (I have 9 accounts logged in at all times) and apps syncing that I regularly exhaust the block device. Add to our already slow IO, any blocking at the kernel level will be multipled.
Going to monitor it some more and report back on battery life and any further observations. Thanks for the share! :good:

it has no effect on any benchmarks so its hard to quantify. for my use it does not make a discernible difference in anything I do with my prime is about the best data you can get.

I have done some benchmarks and it makes no difference to those whatsoever. This bothers me because I can't understand if this is supposed to do nothing, how does my device run orders of magnitude snappier all the time while running this compared with intermittent lag that I usually get (for example: waiting 1-3 seconds for the recent app list to show normally vs instant with this mod) . The CPU governor can't be it: I set cpu to max and use the performance governor and I still have massive lag. I have tried numerous things for I/O: different schedulers, different mount options to reduce writes on reads and improve write speed ie. noatime, nodiratime, discard, and nothing works! I have tried to narrow down a single process that causes the lag, no dice. I know I only have just under 2 days of testing behind me and yes I only have anecdotal evidence but I have been running this a long enough time with absolutely zero lag that I can't say it makes no difference for me. I'll continue testing but so far it has been too long to be placebo IMO.

Haha benchmarks dont equate to real life performance. Benchmark scores have been decreasing since gingerbread even though the new software makes everything faster

The reason why your device *feels* snappier is because constant I/O activity ensures the CPU will remain at rather high clocks, producing the effect of a smoother experience at the expense of massive battery drain. The explanation of increasing the entropy does nothing by itself, you could cause a lot of I/O activity to anywhere in the emmc and it would produce a similar effect.

Indeed. That was my point, benchmark results were unchanged but user experience is different. Hrrrm

I was skeptical as many are about this. I did not see any improvement in Quadrant scores. I installed this for one reason only and it works!
I stream .m4v movies from my NAS drive to my TV through my TP. Before this was installed I would have problems with stuttering no matter what player I tried. Sometimes I would have problems right away, and depending on the player/movie I could watch about an hour before the stuttering/lag begins. I have been beyond frustrated, especially since my wife has an IPad 2 that plays the same movies flawlessly.
Since installing this I can now play my movies without a hitch. I don't know why, but it works. I only use it for this purpose as my other testing showed no major difference. I turn it off when I am not watching movies as I have read that the battery drain is increased.
I streamed 3 movies this weekend without a problem and 2 of them were back to back and I only used approx 35% battery.
Running AndroWook 1.51 and with 1.6 oc kernal.

+ 1 here. Running last JB update + rooted, wasn't able to play heavy games since the update to JB when we lost the OC kernel from ICS, games were laggy, freezing,almost unplayable. After seeder.apk installation, <i am again able to play NOVA 3, Batman, Spiderman, Asåhalt 7, without any lag and high FPS, seems even better than when my Prime was on ICS OC to 1600. I don't care about what people say but what I experience o preformance, this is something I've learnt after all those years using Android devices. Give it try expecially if you run heavy apps. Battery is a bit worse, but who cares when the prime isnot overheating and run a lot better.
