I decided to flash the vibrant 9 rom onto my phone. I was going to try and put the stock tmobile back on. I can never get odin to start flashing so i have to disconnect and start all over again like 2 dozen times to get it to work. I have no clue why i have to do that, but anyway. I got to the phone computer screen, so i tried again. I forgot to put the files into odin and i clicked start. THE PHONE REBOOTED BACK TO WORKING ORDER. I dont know if this is known, but i found it a bit of a cool little accident i had. If this helps someone it helps. thanks
I never heard of that, but thats pretty cool, ill test that next time i F*** up in oidin.

So your phone was on the phone computer screen and you were able to plug it into the computer and get odin to fix it by flashing with out putting the files into odin?

That is how it sounds to me. Odd to say the least.
Yeah when I tried to flash it constantly gets caught on cache.nfs. When i stop it like unplug it to try again if i try to boot it gives the phone/computer screen. I stopped and unplugged everything and pulled the battery. I held the volume buttons like normal and plugged the usb back in to get it to download mode, and completely forgot to add the phone and pda files. There were absolutely no files put into odin it basically looked at the phone and rebooted it. Vibrant came up and it booted like normal. I can try to make a video on monday if you want to see what im talking about.

Oh so you put your phone into download mode. I thought you were on the phone computer screen. Figured it might help with hardware locked phones.
Ok so i flashed my phone at least three times with odin, JI6, JI2, and stock, now I want to flash the JI6 again, but only this time when I use Odin, it will freeze during the flashing process (not literally freeze, it just wont continue with the process) and so the phone is stuck in between th phone...Pc icon, any suggestions??
update: I believe I got something up, it looked like it was going to flash correctly, all of the sudden stopped again in "Get PIT for mapping"...
update #2: Phones dead, wont turn on, i guess pretty soon i would be selling a "dead Vibrant" *sigh*
Here's the story - purchased a soft-bricked Vibrant for $50. It booted up to the phone - ! - computer screen. Took it home, used One-Click Unboot. Took a few tries, drivers, and USB ports, but eventually it worked. After that, it was just turning on and hanging at the Vibrant screen. Going along with other threads, I tried flashing to stock from ODIN. I followed this guide: http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
ODIN was finicky but eventually recognized my phone on COM Port 4. With the appropriate PIT and PDA loaded, I clicked Start and all the files uploaded. The phone restarts and.. stuck at Vibrant again. ODIN even lights up with a green PASS but I've let the phone sit and sit and it never gets anywhere.
Is this thing a total dud? Granted I'm trying to boot without a SIM card in it but I didn't think that would make a difference. Please, someone help. I'm stumped and annoyed.
Tried following this guide as well. Same problem. I'm definitely frustrated.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6998-howto-recover-from-a-soft-brick-on-your-vibrant/
I'm having this same problem, any info would be nice. I've actually tried several different guides online and none have worked for me, I can never get past the bootloader screen.
Also, I have been unable to find the file to install CWR, so I have no backup. I know my phone isn't bricked because I can install different modems and such but nothing is working to get it back up and working.
Make sure you've got the right files. Grab the ones out of the noob guide just to be sure

Yep, same problem. I can't seem to get into recovery either. Or connect to ADB to reboot into recovery. I'm tearing my damn hair out over this.
I tried ODIN flashing the Froyo No-Brick ROM for the hell of it cuz I read it fixed this issue as a last ditch for some people. No dice. Boots to the Vibrant screen for a second, then Vibrant switches to Galaxy S and it just sits there.
If no one has any ideas soon, I'm just going to say screw it. Pretty bummed - I've been on a G1 forever and was excited to use an Android phone that doesn't totally suck.

Go into the Developers section and look at the 2nd or 3rd post "Bay_wolf's AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5" . Download that into your computer and run 'Flash to Stock'.
That should help you get to where you need to go. Try the one click method first.

Thanks for the advice guys, but still no go. Installed the drivers from the toolkit but all I can still do is use ODIN to try and flash stock. Results are exactly the same. Reboot into recovery still isn't working - I have a feeling USB debugging was not enabled on this phone before any of this happened so I'm screwed in that respect.
Keep trying, it's not bricked, one combination of files has to work for you.
Well there's only so many files I can apparently try. I've tried JFD, JI6, Eugene No-Brick.. Is there anything else I should trying flashing with ODIN?
Take out your sim card and microSD card. Download the appropriate stock JFD files, make sure you check repartition; you should be fine. USB debugging box not being checked before has nothing to do with your problem now. I believe either your partition or your bootloasder is screwy. Follow my steps above and you should be ok.
In fact, look at this and follow it to the T.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
That's what I've tried probably 30 times by now. Repartition checked and unchecked. And yeah I know USB debugging doesn't have to do with ODIN, it's why I'm assuming I can't get ADB to recognize the phone so I could at least try "adb reboot recovery".
Outside of flashing JFD, JI6, or Eugene's No-Brick, is there anything else I could try?

Haha no Craigslist I ended up having her file a claim and send it back. I must have borked the bootloader somehow cause now it wont turn on at all. Thank God for insurance. She's SUPER pissed though.
Compared to my Galaxy SII this phone is very finicky and ODIN is even more unreliable than normal. Never hard bricked a device before.
Picked up a G2 practically new for $100. Loving it so far - rooting process was a snap.
F this Vibrant. Back to Craigslist it goes. Still open to ideas before it's gone so I can attempt to get my money back, lol.

The only thing I see that will fix the Vibrant when it's in this state is JTAG brick repair for $50. This is after spending 12 hours searching and attempting to ODIN different stock firmwares till I finally hard bricked it.
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-4g-vibrant-4g-jtag-brick-repair/
Yeah I was considering this. I e-mailed the guy asking if it was an appropriate fix. I figure, if the service takes care of a hard brick, it can certainly take care of a soft brick. Maybe I'll do that to keep it around as a back-up phone. Thanks for the replies, everyone.
Well, I have combed and applied these posts for days hoping for a quick fix or previous problems, and because of a mix of user malfunction and super smart people typing in what seems elvish, I could only wish their powers worked on my new-to-me Cregs list phone.
History:
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S "Vibrant" T959 and discovered that when I entered my sim (when I got home) there was a "Invalid sim" icon close to the battery. I tried other sims, none worked in my phone... Figuring I needed to update software, I hooked it up to my PC, and using Keis light (because normal Keis wouldnt recognize it) Updated the software, BUT! During the update, my computer got the BSOD, and bricked my phone, as in (Computer-!-Phone). I frantically looked online for help and dove head first into XDA.
I flashed roms from Eclair to ICS, I dialed strange numbers with *#*# and flashed back when nothing worked, inserted "update.zip" files, downloaded strange packages, and combed through more posts... Now the phone wont go into download mode anymore. I dont blame it... I'm done.
This is my first cry for help. I know I'm a noob. but that's why I'm here.
Help me contribute helpful information to the collective.

Also,
Phone will not keep APN's, Even after getting official numbers from AT&T, they wont save. (I also have factory unlock codes that don't work)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I work as a full time volunteer, and get paid about $140 a month through other means. I got this phone for $120, so for me it is an investment that I cant replace.
Thank you XDA! - Seriously, Thank you. :fingers-crossed:
So, to be clear. As of right now, your phone is soft bricked with phone- !- computer icon and won't get to download mode.
Alright. Sounds like your phone wasn't actually unlocked, would be why the invalid sim message was there.
We need to get back to Stock JFD, so pull the battery out of the phone and detach USB cable. Take sim and micro SD card out.
Plug USB cable into computer, and open Odin.
Pop battery into phone and try to get into download mode. (You may not see anything indicating this on the screen. That's OK.)
If you get a yellow COM box in Odin, you're there.
I will check in tomorrow with a more thorough help/follow up. There is a good chance your phone will be fine. Don't panic
Update: I reread your post. I don't have time tonight, but I get the impression you don't have Odin/haven't used it to get to stock JFD before. Sit tight until tomorrow or until you get some guidance.
In the meantime read through the stickies and Odin Guides. Also might want to download the AIO Toolbox so you have it handy.

I have used Odin many times to flash what I thought was stock firmware... but that would make sense if it wasn't. I'll grab the toolbox this morning. It's really unknown when I'm able to get online, but when I do, I'll spend anytime needed to download/fix things.
When I get back later I'll have time to spend making sure your on the right track.
There are a couple apps in the store available to unlock your Vibrant too
As toast said its as easy as an app. First make sure you are rooted, then download Galaxy S Unlock by helroz on the play store. I have unlocked a handful of vibes and Cappy's. The app says it will work even if not rooted but it doesn't.
On another note, I don't believe you will get 3g service on your vibe with at&t service. It depends on a lot of variables.

AHHHH!!!!
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have No idea how I was about moved to tears when I saw that the "Invalid sim" icon was gone!
Here's what I did:
Flashed a stock rom using Odin (like I have done numerous times)
Downloaded AIO Toolbox (WHICH ROCKED MY WORLD!) from the internet to my PC
Using wifi, I got on the android market and got the Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz.
Turned on phone
Activated USB Debugging mode
Plugged in the phone to my computer
Ran AIO Toolbox >Root the phone (Did I mention it rocked my world?)
Ran the Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz app and CLOSELY FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS
and when I rebooted my phone, I nearly cried.
I cant believe after looking around for a week I never found AIO Toolbox. If I could click "thank you" repeatedly, I would.
Thank you XDA! :highfive:
Very glad for you! It always puts s smile on my face when I see that a problem has been solved! :Hooray:

So, Follow up, I just realized that everything is working fine with the flashed ICS, except texting... I checked Carrier settings, installed alternate texting apps, and nothing makes them send. I can recieve texts fine, but it always errors when I send any. Very odd.
EDIT:
I entered *#*#4636#*#* on your dialer. It brings up another settings menu. Find SMSC and entered this number: 07913121139418f0 Clicked update, and hit back button. Just like that, texting works!
Hello, I have been a member of the forums for a while and read up on the posts, but I haven't been doing any modding for YEARS. I was on an OG EVO rooted with MIUI rom and I have been running that. So I recently saw a photon on Ebay for peanuts, and they said that it kept rebooting. Thinking myself clever I bought it saying they probably just screwed up trying to flash it.
I got it 4 days ago and I have been making the situation WORSE since I got it!! When I first got it, it booted to the sprint homepage. I got a "no signal" red indicator. I tried to activate it, but couldn't. called sprint, they couldn't and said it's probably because of the no signal. I read a few hundred posts and decided to try to flash. I DL'd RSD lite and flashed the electrify USC file. Now it boots up as US CELLULAR, and I still have no signal. Anytime I insert an sd card it reboots. It reboots randomly often. (5-10 times per hour) WIFI works though, (I can use it as an Ipad Micro.) I have downloaded files, tried a lot of fixes, with no luck. I think it's safe to say I bit off more than I could chew being out of practice and pretty noobish, but any tips would be greatly appreciated... The last thing I tried was moto fastboot to flash the boot img and recovery img. I keep getting an error (windows could not find moto fast boot). I can go into recovery by holding power and vol down, and RSD by holding power and vol up...And here I am...
I also get the flash failed error (phone failed to re-enumerate) ever since flashing the electrify file
what version of GB does it have on it?
if you mean by GB android (just a guess, I have no idea what you mean!) It's 2.3.5
There were certain photons that would randomly reboot for no reason. I had one and exchanged it for another one and have been fine since.
Unfortunately there was a hardware issue that caused the rebooting. Nothing software related can fix it.
Could try a sprint store.

Read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798145
You flashed a sbf and now you have US Cellular, but there are more files to flash to get back Sprint service. It's outlined in the thread. I soft-bricked my phone (bootloop that I couldn't get out of) followed the directions and I'm back up. You'll need to know how to root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1819660) and install Bootstrap (can't find the link but it's probably in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393519)
thanks a lot!! but am not out of the woods yet. I followed the instructions from the link and using bootstrap I was able to flash back to Sprint, so I am back where I started. The phone boots up, I have a sprint startup and home screen, I flashed the 2.3.5 modules through bootstrap But I still have the no signal red icon.
