[Q] Stuck on Vibrant Screen after flashing stock from ODIN - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here's the story - purchased a soft-bricked Vibrant for $50. It booted up to the phone - ! - computer screen. Took it home, used One-Click Unboot. Took a few tries, drivers, and USB ports, but eventually it worked. After that, it was just turning on and hanging at the Vibrant screen. Going along with other threads, I tried flashing to stock from ODIN. I followed this guide: http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
ODIN was finicky but eventually recognized my phone on COM Port 4. With the appropriate PIT and PDA loaded, I clicked Start and all the files uploaded. The phone restarts and.. stuck at Vibrant again. ODIN even lights up with a green PASS but I've let the phone sit and sit and it never gets anywhere.
Is this thing a total dud? Granted I'm trying to boot without a SIM card in it but I didn't think that would make a difference. Please, someone help. I'm stumped and annoyed.

Tried following this guide as well. Same problem. I'm definitely frustrated.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6998-howto-recover-from-a-soft-brick-on-your-vibrant/

I'm having this same problem, any info would be nice. I've actually tried several different guides online and none have worked for me, I can never get past the bootloader screen.
Also, I have been unable to find the file to install CWR, so I have no backup. I know my phone isn't bricked because I can install different modems and such but nothing is working to get it back up and working.

Make sure you've got the right files. Grab the ones out of the noob guide just to be sure

Yep, same problem. I can't seem to get into recovery either. Or connect to ADB to reboot into recovery. I'm tearing my damn hair out over this.

I tried ODIN flashing the Froyo No-Brick ROM for the hell of it cuz I read it fixed this issue as a last ditch for some people. No dice. Boots to the Vibrant screen for a second, then Vibrant switches to Galaxy S and it just sits there.
If no one has any ideas soon, I'm just going to say screw it. Pretty bummed - I've been on a G1 forever and was excited to use an Android phone that doesn't totally suck.

Go into the Developers section and look at the 2nd or 3rd post "Bay_wolf's AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5" . Download that into your computer and run 'Flash to Stock'.
That should help you get to where you need to go. Try the one click method first.

Thanks for the advice guys, but still no go. Installed the drivers from the toolkit but all I can still do is use ODIN to try and flash stock. Results are exactly the same. Reboot into recovery still isn't working - I have a feeling USB debugging was not enabled on this phone before any of this happened so I'm screwed in that respect.

Keep trying, it's not bricked, one combination of files has to work for you.

Well there's only so many files I can apparently try. I've tried JFD, JI6, Eugene No-Brick.. Is there anything else I should trying flashing with ODIN?

Take out your sim card and microSD card. Download the appropriate stock JFD files, make sure you check repartition; you should be fine. USB debugging box not being checked before has nothing to do with your problem now. I believe either your partition or your bootloasder is screwy. Follow my steps above and you should be ok.
In fact, look at this and follow it to the T.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737

That's what I've tried probably 30 times by now. Repartition checked and unchecked. And yeah I know USB debugging doesn't have to do with ODIN, it's why I'm assuming I can't get ADB to recognize the phone so I could at least try "adb reboot recovery".
Outside of flashing JFD, JI6, or Eugene's No-Brick, is there anything else I could try?

Haha no Craigslist I ended up having her file a claim and send it back. I must have borked the bootloader somehow cause now it wont turn on at all. Thank God for insurance. She's SUPER pissed though.
Compared to my Galaxy SII this phone is very finicky and ODIN is even more unreliable than normal. Never hard bricked a device before.

Picked up a G2 practically new for $100. Loving it so far - rooting process was a snap.
F this Vibrant. Back to Craigslist it goes. Still open to ideas before it's gone so I can attempt to get my money back, lol.

The only thing I see that will fix the Vibrant when it's in this state is JTAG brick repair for $50. This is after spending 12 hours searching and attempting to ODIN different stock firmwares till I finally hard bricked it.
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-4g-vibrant-4g-jtag-brick-repair/

Yeah I was considering this. I e-mailed the guy asking if it was an appropriate fix. I figure, if the service takes care of a hard brick, it can certainly take care of a soft brick. Maybe I'll do that to keep it around as a back-up phone. Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Little odin quirk i found

I decided to flash the vibrant 9 rom onto my phone. I was going to try and put the stock tmobile back on. I can never get odin to start flashing so i have to disconnect and start all over again like 2 dozen times to get it to work. I have no clue why i have to do that, but anyway. I got to the phone computer screen, so i tried again. I forgot to put the files into odin and i clicked start. THE PHONE REBOOTED BACK TO WORKING ORDER. I dont know if this is known, but i found it a bit of a cool little accident i had. If this helps someone it helps. thanks
I never heard of that, but thats pretty cool, ill test that next time i F*** up in oidin.

So your phone was on the phone computer screen and you were able to plug it into the computer and get odin to fix it by flashing with out putting the files into odin?

That is how it sounds to me. Odd to say the least.
Yeah when I tried to flash it constantly gets caught on cache.nfs. When i stop it like unplug it to try again if i try to boot it gives the phone/computer screen. I stopped and unplugged everything and pulled the battery. I held the volume buttons like normal and plugged the usb back in to get it to download mode, and completely forgot to add the phone and pda files. There were absolutely no files put into odin it basically looked at the phone and rebooted it. Vibrant came up and it booted like normal. I can try to make a video on monday if you want to see what im talking about.

as you i had the same problem and finally got it to work by watching this video on you tube:
1.go to you tube
2.search for flash vibrant
3.first video should be "Flashing Firmware with Odin on Samsung Vibrant" by ZDoomentral, its a 3:00 min video
(sorry can't post direct link but i a restricted since i am a new user)
pay close attention as to how he gets his phone into DOWNLOAD MODE, thats where i was going wrong, and just follow the directions of the video.
my phone is up and running with stock kernel and re-rooted it
man i just want to say i just had this same issue happen to be... im a truck driver and having my phone is serious... mainly to play games or what not...but i just got some from Minnesota and tried the odin method and saw that video on you which help give me a visual and its back up ... im very happy... sad to say it was a careless mistake somewhere but i did a back like i always do and it didnt work for some reason...i had a g1 before this vibrant and ive flashed a lots of roms... but anyway i wanna thank everyone one this forum ... i got my phone back
Does this restart the WHOLE THING? because I have information I didn't backup :/
Yes. It deletes EVERYTHING. Just like it's brand out of the box.
I recommend using Titanium Backup and back all your apps. ALWAYS ALWAYS, do a Nandroid backup before flashing ANYTHING.

If you have adb up and running & have the ability to get into recovery while you're bricked you can do aN adb pull before flashing
Adb remount
Adb pull /sdcard
After un-bricking you can adb push the folders back
When I did it..it flash back to stock but I have titanium back up so mt phone is back to how I had it ...and I still have every thing else back on, like my movies music etc..

I was trying to help my friend with his Vibrant and now it's stuck at the splash screen in a loop. I can't seem to get it to download mode or recovery or anything. I've pulled the battery, held down both vol keys while pushing power. Any time I connect the usb, it just starts up the boot loop without giving me a chance to do anything else. I can never get to the green charging battery. Any ideas?
I guess I could provide more info... We had rooted the phone multiple times, but Superuser would FC every time. So, we decided to flash eugene's froyo build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558). That's when I got the boot loop. Odin said it was finished, and it did not go into recovery. It just started boot looping. Maybe I didn't wait long enough before hitting the power? I'm not sure. Anyway. I'm stuck.
EDIT: Unstuck now. I guess I just need to not panic and read more. I held both VOL keys in while connecting to USB and it went into downloading mode. SO, I flash a stock 2.1 ROM and it's back to the way it was. Calling works fine. No data though. Apparently, that was one of the issues before. I'll try rooting again, but it seems like there's another issue. Also... No settings survive reboots. Like turning on USB debugging... Strange.

[Q] Help...unable to go into Recovery.

Hi everyone. I have a samsung galaxy s vibrant on android 2.2. I am a total noob with any modifications but am going overseas next month and wanted to unlock my phone. After looking into rooting etc. I downloaded odin and darky's ROM resurrection edition. I followed the prompts to go into recovery and wipe etc. and remove battery and turn back on. After using odin and restarting my phone now just flashes the start screen showing galaxy s GT-I9000. I can't enter recovery mode just download mode. I'm unsure what to do and even tried mounting another recovery file on odin which lead me to the same point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try re-flashing it and see if that works, sometimes that's all it takes. It's possible you just had a bad flash.
I've tried about 5 times now and it seems to keep failing to boot after flash and sticking on the initial boot screen and flashing on and off. Is there a way to download and flash an original ROM and mount on odin to start over?
Try getting into download mode. Hold and continue to hold up & down volume controls while holding in the power button. When the Vibrant logo comes up release only the power button. If you do get into recovery that way scroll down to install zip from sd card and install whatever rom you've got on there that you want to use. Let me know if that works or not.
I can still only get into download mode. I've tried flashing again with both ROMs I have and they both are doing the same thing. Holy frustrating lol

Look for a hard surface... concrete for example.. now take your phone and throw it as hard as you can... Just kidding don't do that, that's a permanent reboot. I know the frustration, I've been there many times. You may want to go back and read through the noob guide, I'm not sure what else to suggest. Hopefully someone else will read this and have a better suggestion. Good luck.
haha yeah the thought crossed my mind. I appreciate your help. I'm still reading through the forum. Most instructions seem to require me to reach recovery mode or usb debugging. My phone is no longer being recognized on the computer but odin is obviously still recognizing so I'm going to try a fresh 2.2 on odin and see if that works.
Good luck, I'm rooting for ya. If that does not work and your close to a T-mobile store I'd just run it in and have them check it out, they may have to replace it.
Thanks again. I'm actually in Canada and using a sub provider from bell "virgin mobile".

[Q] Bricked SGS2 GT-i9100M (Bell/Virgin)

Okay, So I am as NOOB as NOOB can be,
I got a used SGS2 (Bell/Virgin), I am on Telus so I figured, how hard can it be to unlock it instead of paying some dude to do it for me? (First mistake, and have been humbled every step of the way since!...)
Anyway I will try to keep this relatively short (it will be difficult)... ...I read a few things online and saw that I needed ODIN and a Rooting software, I originally used SuperOneClick, and to download the right insecure kernel to match my original one etc... ...problem is I obviously didn't read nearly enough when I started because I was almost done and then there was a hiccup when SuperOneClick said that I needed to enable SU in Kies. So I decided to go into Kies to try and do so but the instructions before I started Rooting said to put the phone in USB debugging mode. Apparently Kies doesn't see the phone if it is in that mode. Well by this time I can't get past the logo screen and this is where my downward spiral begins.
I then tried to unroot the phone to go back to stock but didn't really know what I was doing and then I read something about the cache needing to be wiped and then after that I read that maybe my OS was wiped. So at this point I did lots of reading (what I should have done in the first place) and most of anything useful I found was on XDA so that is why I am here. It seemed like yes, in fact my OS was wiped because of one of my not so S-M-R-T actions. So I fumbled through and found the right OS for my S2 and I had ODIN going strong and I had the OS loading, the green bar getting bigger in ODIN and the blue bar working it's way across the screen of my S2...I thought "finally!!, I rock!!"... ...then for some reason everything stopped! I had seen in a post that I had to uninstall Kies before doing anything, which I did...but I didn't see until after the fact that my anti-virus likely interfered (I didn't disable it for the process before I started).
At that point of course I was left with a phone that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
So then I was afraid to try anything else because many say to steer clear of Kies and also I had read that I may need a USB jig to be able to get it back into download mode because all I was getting was the "firmware upgrade issue" screen. I did make a USB jig with a resistance of 300K Ohms and I *can* get the phone into download mode. (Though another concern is that when I plug the USB jig in and it brings the phone into download mode, the counter is not reset and I read that that was supposed to be reset by the jig.)
So last night I got brave and decided to try and run ODIN and to have another attempt at installation of OS. Now I can get ODIN to detect the phone, but I put the I9100MUGLD3_I9100MBMCLD3_I9100MXXLD3_HOME.tar.md5 file into the PDA section of ODIN and it starts and gets to the part where it says loading firmware or something and then bootload.bin and it stayed like that for like, an hour and then I gave up, fearing that I am just going to screw it up even more.
So now I decided that I am not even close to knowing what to do next but every time I found anything to move forward it was on this site so I figured I may as well join the site since I have been here so often. Now I am hoping for some kind of miracle...so, in advance, please please please and thank you thank you thank you all for your input. (Sorry for the length of this I just wanted to get all the info I could into this)
Its quite a long story and didnt bother reading it.
If you can still access your phone via odin at downloadmode. Flash a stock firmware for your device and it should fix if it is just a soft brick.

Sorry for the length of the story, I thought there may be alot of useful info mixed in with the useless info... ...when you say use stock firmware do you mean the kernel or the actual OS? I tried loading ICS onto it (which I thought was stock but I may be wrong). Is it supposed to be gingerbread or something else? Also where would I find a good file for it.
Thank you again for any input, very much appreciated!

Tried restoring rom, now phone won't start. Help Please!

Hey all, this is my first android and I'm not the smartest sometimes. I tried restoring back to factory rom, and watched a bad how to vid. Basically i cleared data, system, cache and now realize i shouldn't have.
I'm not able to connect to the phone through usb. I have the drivers, but I can't see the phone.I can boot into cwm, and that is it. When i start it, it basically pulls up the LG screen, then a black screen.
I have a backup on cwm but get the md5 error.
Is it possible to put the sd card in my computer and download what i need straight to the card? Im also not sure what i need to download, if that does work.
Please let me know if there is any other info I can provide. Like i said im not the smartest sometimes, so dont be afraid to respond like im slow.

Can you install the Rom "The base .5". I assume so if you can get to cwm. I had this problem when flashing this Rom The first time. It did the same thing with the LG logo then go black. If that happens just reboot to cwm(May take awhile) and reflash "the base" again. That should allow it to boot the phone fully so you can at least use it till you can get all the way back to stock. I hope this helps. I have to crash now tho. I'll check back in the morning to see how it's going.

Are you trying to get back to factory settings or just get your phone running with the stock rom?
You should be able to just put the ROM on your sd card via computer if you have an SD card sleeve.
If you wiped your phone, it's my understanding that you're not supposed to when flashing the provided rom in development.
There's a posting in development, I believe, about restoring your phone to stock if you messed it up. LGNST or something.

The recovery won't generate a md5 sum (known bug). You have to generate it yourself. Connect your phone to adb and go to #4 in the FAQ here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006946
Note that there is no way to tell of the backup is corrupt since you are generating a valid code regardless of integrity.

I tried re-installing .4 base which is what I had originally used. It let me choose the apps to instal, and made it to the "X" screen, but appeared to be stuck in a boot loop. I am going to try and download and install .5 via the sd card and see if that works. I'm not sure if LGNPST will work since I can't see the phone via usb. I will download it and give it a try though.
I also saw the guide in the general Optimus G forums for unbricking it.

Since i cant really connect via usb, ill probably have to use a different method. Im hoping the usb issue is due to the computer im using and the original computer i used to root and unlock will work.

I'm traveling for work and on a work computer, so the IRC channel is blocked. Of course. I'm heading home tomorrow so hopefully I can get everything back to normal when i get on my home computer. (not having a phone sucks)
Do you all think it would be worth putting the base .5 on my sd card and flashing that, or do you think that wouldnt work? .4 is on there now from my original flash, but that won't work. Just curious.
Well is your phone up and running?
I would think it wouldn't cause harm to try and flash .5 onto it, your phone shouldn't get bricked from it.

So i cant get it into any mode to do anything. Ive had it on the charger, wall and usb for a couple hours and nothing is happening. I wonder if i can take it back to my att store and try get a replacement. It is within my 14 day window, and there are "hardware" warranties. I have a feeling they will ask what happened and while i may not initially divulge everything, i sadly cant lie. And since its all my fault, i may chalk it up to learning.
i'd say the device started having issues with the USB. unable to see the device when plugged into the computer and the device won't take a charge. don't hear of too many authentic "bricking's" anymore...it can almost always be resurrected. but if the device won't take a charge your time to resolution is rather limited. good luck.

Before you leave to go to the store hook it up to a set up jumper cables and then attach the other end to your car battery. Then just tell them when you tried to charge it that it started smoking and wont turn on any more.
The only lie you have to tell them is it happened on the stock charger.
Im on the same boat. Tried going back to stock for a warranty return, and i ended up bricking the phone. Im able to get it to download mode and was able to run the lg tool but it keeps failing on me. And when it does complete it still wont load. Im going to try to make my self a powerd usb cable too see if i can get it to work. Have like 2 or 3 days to try to figure it out. Or elese im out 550 bucks.

Other option is just telling them you clicked install for the ota update it rebooted and never came back on. They just wipe them at the repair center anyway if they get them to boot up.

It took 12 hrs to get a clean download of the stock ROM (AT&T internet sucks in my area). The entire time the screen on my phone was on with the LG splash screen displayed. By the time I got the ROM ready for flash, the battery was dead. I was however able to plug in to the USB on my computer and get enough juice to get into download mode. Ran LGNPST (v2.2.3) and the stock ROM installed with no prob. You might try plugging it in then trying to get into download mode.
EDIT: now that I think about it. You need to have it plugged in to the USB before download mode anyway, so you won't be doing anything different than you already did.
