If rooted and it's not already part of the ROM you are using - AdFree from Market
Ok.. Virus rom doesnt have the ad blocker host files built in
valid question but OP please move this to general section. this has no relevance to dev work

is there a mod for this or are you guys using an app from the market? if so what do you use and how good it is?
Use Ad Free from the market. It works great for me, but you have to be rooted.

Adeo blocks most adds as well, probably not as, we'll as an actual program but it isn't an app or service so its, one less thing eating battery.

Gingerblur also gives you an option to install a host file that blocks most ads. I highly recommend installing it.
Hi i was wandering if there is an app or something that blocks the porn websites or those adds with pornography.

Root your phone and install AdAway
Adfree is free better than adway ..
Edward Cullen
That won't block porn websites - just in-app ads.
OP - does your service provider not give the option of adult filtering at their end? In the UK it's actually turned on by default and you have to request if you want it off.

Try this...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trendmicro.tmmspersonal
It gives you a fully functional version for 90 days and then you have to decide whether to pay or not. It has parental block for the internet.
Edit: Actually, a search for parental block apps on Google Play turns up quite a few...
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=parental+block&c=apps
Thanks a lot it works
Nice idea to use a parental control for myself!

Awesome App that modifing HOST file in your android , and more advance than other ads block app's , that u can update it easily form the application
Suggest "ROM Toolbox"
One of the tools in ROM Toolbox Lite is a hosts-file modifier that can block ads, casinos, porn, and 'risky' domains. Seems to work well and it's nice and simple (as long as you've rooted your phone of course).

I'm also looking for android filtering apps to block sites while surfing or use apps. But it seems it's a little more difficult to make it than developing the features on Mac or Windows operating system. I use Aobo Internet Filter ( http://aobo.cc/aobo-filter.html ) for Mac and PC, but can't find any apps to block unwanted sites for android phones. I want to know if you found anyone, just tell me, thanks.
No wonder if you can't find any of your favorite ad blocking apps such as AdAway in Google play, Google is removing them as of today.

They prevent developers from making money. Obviously it would be happening sooner or later, I'm also surprised they remained until now.
No big deal to me. People need to make money somehow. Frankly, though, I prefer those that offer a free ad-supported version and a paid version. If I use an app a lot I'd rather just pay for it and remove the ads. It's often a bummer when people only offer ad-supported versions of apps.

Google is a guy?! I'd often thought of Google as feminine . Like a hot smart chic.

You can still get AdAway from F-Droid.
Also, you can do ad blocking at the kernel level and it is already implemented in custom kernels for our phone.
Just block ads by host file I can link the file here https://www.dropbox.com/s/hat49do241hhuy8/hosts.rar or quick Google search, even quicker download, use a file explorer that has root privileges move the file to /system/etc/ rename your old one or just over write it........ GL
EDIT: You will need to unzip/unrar it then move it to /system/etc/
Re: Ad blocking apps are nuked from play store
Also I posted an ad away here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39144524
Compiled from source. So plenty of options for everyone.
AdAway has been my favorite, can't live w/o it.
Thanks a lot, gents
after installing stupid app I start to get these ads I removed the apps but still getting these ads
anyway to stop these stupid ads ??
thanks
Probably you still have installed the app that is causing the ad to appear. There are some applications that can detect which apps are showing ads like that. But i can't remember the app name, sorry, you'll have to search a bit for it.
Or, if you are rooted, you can install an ad blocking app, like AdAway.
Use airpush scanner

As the title says, I can't won't open any shortened links from Facebook, twitter, etc. Not even in facebooks internal browser, which is garbage anyway. I'm running JellyBeans22 ROM 4.1.2, but it's just the stock browser. Any advice?

any ad blocking or host file software? I'd disable those. If not Id try a different browser if that doesn't work I'd try a different rom. Newer heard of this.
Turns out it was ad blocker built in to the ROM. Rehashed and disabled it and it's good to go.... But now I have ads which bites. Why would an ad blocker block shortened URLs anyway?
